A few questions before buying? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

1. I am struggling beween S4 and LG G2.. LG UI is ugly, imo. S4's apps are far more beautiful as well. Is it possible to bugglesly theme LG G2?
2. Screen. I went to store to check them out and LG G2 screen looks kind of pale comparing to S4. Is it just me?
3. IS LG G2 a good quality phone? Did you have any problems with it? I will use the phone for 2 years, so.
3. How is headphone sound? I listen to music like 3 hours a day. It is very important for me.. Also i am able to get only 16gb version, another plus to S4, that it supports sd cards.
4. Whitch phone would you get: S4 or LG G2 (both of them cost the same)?
5. Are you overal happy with your phone? Would you exchange it for any other phone (despite G3)?
Please, answer. If you can't answer all the questions, answer one or two. It will help me anyways! Thank you

It seems you already decided to go for the S4, so go ahead. Not much we can do about that.

[Q] Switching from Sprint - simple questions

I am switching from Sprint to AT&T, as I already said in the subject, and I am looking for some QUICK opinions.
As most people probably have gone through this when buying their phone, I am debating on the S4 Active or the HTC One.
Upon coming onto here though, I was leaning more toward the HTC One because I like several things about it, more than the normal S4 and S4 Active, and because most of the S4 software features I don't really care about; I'm an EVO 3D owner, so I know how the gimmicks go. Nonetheless there are things that do attract me to the S4 Active over the One
I noticed the difference in activity for the S4 vs the One is SIGNIFICANT. ~13.5k posts for the S4 and ~3.6k posts for the One. Why is this? Are there that many junk postings\ROMs\etc or is it really just THAT active in this community? Is this section the same area to go to for the S4 Active device w/ AT&T?
- How is battery life? This is more geared toward the S4 \ S4 Active veteran users as I don't care how long your battery is lasting after you got your phone just a week ago lol
- How is NORMAL everyday use of the camera\camcorder?
- Are there significant amounts of SOLID daily drivers that are varying in style and operation? (ROMs)
- For the Active, how is call quality (for both sides), are there any other downsides to the Active edition vs regular S4 or HTC One?
Thanks

OK I'll try to answer most of ur questions there r more posts in the s4 section for two reasons 1 there r two devices using this forum the s4 and the s4 active 2 s4 has sold 20 million devices or so the HTC one about 5 million ( est not exact number from what I read )
Battery close is similar on all 3 devices for a lot of ppl the decidinng factor is the SD card and removable battery which HTC one has neither plus that power button being on top ( u had a evo 3d u mite be used to this )
Daily drivers there is plenty of good ROMs for the s4 and the HTC one
The active is really limited in this aspect since it has yet to acquire custom recovery exploit yet
The s4 has a boot loader exploit so u can use custom recovery as long as u don't update it out of the box mf3 ( plenty of threads on how to freeze att updater )
Out of the total amt of phones sold very few ppl actually flash ROMs a small percent of the android population the galaxy line has always had a lot of devs and ROMs cuz of its awesome specs and likability and ease to root and flash ROMs ( minus boot loader locking which isn't Samsung's fault its the carriers )
Hope this helps u and answers ur questions

Thanks for the fairly detailed response!
I have a couple other questions for you - is the cartoon-like UI their TouchWiz software?
Not to ruffle any feathers but I don't really like that aspect of it.
Also, when you unlock the bootloader and\or root, do you still get the annoying triangle upon boot? My friend had the S III and he had that problem. It didn't affect functionality but it was a bit tacky\annoying.
Yeah I have found AT&T to be root\unlock Nazis, but it seemed to be select devices they like to lock down. Not sure why, because you still have your plan that limits you lol
Thanks again!

TW (TouchWhiz) is samsungs launcher and I wouldn't call it cartoon-like, but if you think so there are alternatives such as launchers from the Play Store, or flashing an AOSP ROM for vanilla Android look and feel.
As far as unlocking the bootloader, there are working methods as to remove the triangle on boot, so don't sweat that.

[Q] WIll 16 GB suffice?

Dear All,
I know what I'm asking is also personal preference.
Currently I own a Z1, but due to the bootloader issue when unlocking the bootloader your camera function breaks and very small rom community, it crossed my mind to buy a LG G2 (and what also helps is the terrific battery life).
The thing which is currently me holding back to buy a LG G2 is regarding the the 16GB. In The Netherlands they don't sell the 32GB version.
My questions are:
1. How much space does a custom LG stock rom software needs?
2. How much space does AOSP normally rom needs?
Thanks guys

I don't know how closely this will apply to your version, but my stock T-Mobile USA 32GB model shows 24GB of space, of which I've already used up 8 GB just loading up all my usual apps and such.
Seems like 16GB is likely to feel cramped.
Got the phone yesterday...so far, 1st impression, love it. Best phone I've owned...and I've owned quite a few

I think I asked somewhere. Since there it's no repartitioning. The roms take the same space.
Had before a 32GB hox. That was enough with USB otg.
Now this 16 having only 10 GB left. With one backup almost 3GB compressed. Some pics and one big game Asphalt and I can't do a second backup....
Without USB OTG a 16 would be for me unstable unusable....
Still waiting for my meenova

LG customers (along with many others) get 50gb free space on box for lifetime at the moment.
No effing way. The OS/ROM holds 9 GB ransom. I suppose 16GB would be OK for a casual user, but casual users wouldn't register for an XDA account.
Flipping ridiculous, man. I don't need, or particularly want, all the fancy animations and stuff. 9 gigs for a phone OS? The Linux instance on my HTPC is half that... Shoot, I can trim Windows 7 down to within spitting distance of that.
Can't wait for true skinny stable AOSP 4.4 on this device.

Make it happen LG, come on.
Interesting that this still lists the V507L (the 4G LTE version) even though it's not been released yet and many people think it never will.
Nice! I was thinking to move to CM11 now that it seems to support HDMI working (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49601193), but if this update happens soon I'll wait for it... :fingers-crossed:

Yea but the update still keeps lg's crappy skin and bloatware intact while the cm11 rom doesn't. Plus you won't be waiting around for likely a long time to grt the update. BUT at least lg's rom is guaranteed to work with basically every app while there are lots of reports that cm11 roms don't work with a number of games.

actually, you can delete the bloatware. LG actually lets you delete it while others just let you disable it. pretty sure I did this to some aps before I went with cm rom.
Ohh, that's awesome. I've been enjoying the LG 4.2.2 ROM, but this will just sweeten the deal. Looks like the industry as a whole is expecting to get their flagship lineups to 4.4 and will probably leave them there; that'll probably make the consumer market happy for a year (or at least until their next wave of products hit). In the meantime, there's always CM!

I don't think the LG software is that bad, especially if you use a 3rd party launcher. It's true that the custom roms look nicer, but sounds like you lose some features, e.g., Slimport.
For me, the best solution is a customized rom based on LG stock that is compatible with all the apps, but cleans up the interface a little.

Agreed. A custom launcher would be nice, but this will do for me. I love me my Knock On (power button? What's that?) and HDMI. And as non-stock as LG's interface is, it's still far closer to stock than most OEMs and will work for me. I'm coming from Acer and Asus tablets and it's much more like them than Samsung, etc.
Mark
I am hoping that article is correct. I used to use CM11 on my old tablet but tried it and a couple others on my LG and missed the LG interface. SO I am now running stock with Apex. A 4.4 update should be nice.
I don't mind the interface. Frankly I tend to ignore them on tablets. I use a tablet for it's apps not for how pretty the icons look...
I considering trying a custom ROM but I need slimport as I output the tablet to HDMI.
I also read that the knock on feature does not work with customer roms and I actually like that function.
4.4 with everything working is just fine with me.
Now we wait.
Unless of courses Samsung releases it's new Tab Pro 8.4 before then. I'm planning on picking it up.

Well, I don't wait anymore. Knock on and off works with CM11 and Mahdi ; HDMI through slimport as well. It might even work with the other roms, but I haven't tried them.
This is good news as I'm still running the stock 4.2.2 LG Rom on my g pad 8.3 and don't feel like messing around with custom rooms hopefully it comes out soon.

Lg g3 and opo

Hello guys ..i have lg g3 and oneplus one ..i just wants to know something .. Both these devices are nearly the same just g3's screen better ... And the ram and everything else the same .. But oneplus one much faster and smoother than lg g3 especially on aosp based roms like CM roms and the g3 laggy ..even on benchmark OPO gets 45k and g3 gets 35k ..is there anyway to make the g3 like OPO fast and smooth?
This is a question that you shouldn't be asking in the OPO section. Its something that should be asked in the G3 thread as you are currently asking how to make the G3 fast and smooth not the OPO.
They are the same specs in terms of hardware but they are not the exact same device. OPO may have optimised the phone internally better than the G3? that may be or may not be the case.
Anyways, this is a question that should be asked on the G3 section as its more relevant. They are able to help make ur G3 faster while we only know how to make OPO faster.

no its fine to ask here but its kinda not our device so, you get my point
Anyways, why dont you PM some people who are active in that section that would help with how they post like people who make profiles for kernels there?
Im one of the people who are profile makers here for OPO and i would be glad to help ur OPO to get better
Try to flash an opo room and see if that helps... Jokes aside, no nothing you can do. Maybe flash some aosp rom that you can find in original development section of the g3.

There is not much u can do to try and match the speed of the one plus one on the g3 the reason why is because of the screen its has to push double the pixels and thats why the performance is not as good as the one plus

Hello there,
Plug your phone to the charger with the battery on and try booting it.
If it boots then the battery should get replaced if it doesn't, it may have been Hard Bricked.
If you are bored of LG G3 then go buy LG G5,it's a really speedy phone.
Also Nexus 6p is a great choice.
Greetings and Happy New Year!
