[POLL][XPERIA] - Rate your ROM - Xperia Z General

As there are so many different (and not so different) ROMs available for our Xperia Z (C6603), it becomes somehow difficult to find the best (in terms of smoothness and features) ROM for daily use. I know there are already plenty of threads comparing general features of different major ROMs. However, these might appear to be very general and totally not device related, especially for new comers. That is way I would like to start and maintain this thread.
In this thread I would like you to post you current rom and rate it on a scale from 1 (for very poor) to 10 (for f*cking hilarious). I would appreciate if you'd post your ratings each time you flash a new rom.
Please indicate following infos:
ROM NAME
(eventually) ROM base (e.g. AOSP, CM, etc)
ROM Version (e.g. 28062014 Nightly, 3.1, etc.)
Android Version
And your actual ratings for:
Features (that are implemented in other devices but not yet in ours)
Current available features
Overall smotheness
Overall satisfaction
How likely are going to advice your friends to install this rom (from 1 - not likely to 10 - very likely)
If you have already submitted your ratings on one of the previous posts in this thread, just create a new post and indicate your previous post number. Thus, I can adjust the rating in an appropriate way (Basically, your previous rom will receive bonus points if it was rated better than your new rom and I will deduct some points for the rom being rated worse than the new one).
Further information on rating calculation will come as soon as your first ratings get processed.
Any feedback and critics are welcome and very anticipated!!!
Hopefully will soon get enough responses to evaluate all available roms and help us to quickly find a 'new' for the daily use.:good::good::good:

[POLL] Eclair ROM ratings for users & devs 01/26/10

This post is a poll for users who like to test different ROM's to find out which one will be the "winner" over their device. Also it is used as a quick guide to find out which of the "ECLAIR ROMs" are the highest rated of the releases for users (and devs) to pick from the HUGE list of ones available rather than flashing, testing, re-partitioning, then re-flashing, etc etc.
I am not at all trying to flame, bash, or put down anyone's ROM that is less developed than others. I myself as I believe others like myself are interested in finding out which of the great ROM's released are by popular vote more exciting to use than others.
I also understand that different users have different opinions, and I as well as many others I know personally prefer totally different ROM's to use on our devices. So on that note, let everyone know of the list which ROM you believe gives you the best experience on your G1 & Mytouch3G / Dream & Magic devices by popular vote.
If I have left off any other ROM's that may be GREAT but just not posted in the poll please feel free to express the name, who it's by, and why you love it!
Thanks for your vote, I believe this will be of a lot of help to others like myself.
Hopefully this post is not considered "spam" and is more for an informational tool
This should be posted in the Dream/G1 Discussion board...not the G1 Android Development section...

Thanks for the correction, however most ROM users, and Dev's don't use the Dream/G1 discussion forum and i believe the intentions of this post would fall on deaf ears.
Ive found my leo to be more entertaining than my dreams, the 2.5 sense UI rom is a beast on it too.

Yes it does, You can see where the most excitement is drawn from which is neat... The poll has multiple answers enabled which I input due to the fact that myself like probably others like more and enjoy more than only 1 ROM, So if you do like 2 out of the bunch or anything feel free to express it and vote for another
You spelled "ratings" wrong in the title.
Remember, first impressions last a life time.

True indeed, this thread is not specifically dev related, but I find it to be very helpful and informative for those of us that are flashing these roms, gives the user an better idea of what to choose from when looking for a good eclair duplicate. And most users, like I, hardly ever visit the discussion board because they are so busy checking the dev forums for new releases and updates. Therefore I find this thread to be placed in a perfectly good position due to to its purpose. MODS please consider before moving.
Yay! Somebody finally picked up my idea koo well
lets see which rom is the best
This should be reset tho every like week or so, cause constant changes happen and one gets crazy awesome over night..so you should have in the title sometimes (I reset this poll on 1/27) so ppl no to see new results...
wrong info
I use [email protected] Eclair 2.1, with spanish kernel, this is the faster 2.1 ROM for Dream and Sapphire.
I´m waiting for a new update, with N1 features and G1 Dream full working.

Nice Idea, this poll.
But, i think, there should be also a Poll for the Functions needed, not only which Eclair ROM...
So, for me the Killerfeatures are:
WLan/WiFi working
Bluetooth working
Exchange Active Sync working (including Contacts, Calendar, E-Mail)
Sound working (also with Navigation App like Sygic, nDrive, ...)
Not so urgent, but would be nice:
Google Sync working
Tethering WiFi/USB working
Browser with Flash Support working
Camera working (Pictures & Video)
Video working
as much as possible free system memory ;-)
Of course my respect for all developers, you do great work!
I'll try ~ all Imagereleases, but i stay at the moment @The Original Rogers (modification from kb7sqi). I think it's the only one with working complete ActiveSync/BT/WiFi/Sound.

I like your idea, it's good to always update ratings based upon how certain ROMs enhance faster or more frequent than others.
hey javolin i really think u should add jubeh's 2.1 AOSP ROM to the polls, its really something great, best eclair ROM i used to date.
the Intention ROM comes from a mature dev that doesnt act like a child. He also dosent beg for money

pretty good turnout with the voting... I think these voting ratings will also help devs in a comptetive state as well... Granted there is the "sharing is caring" attitude, but I'm sure nothing feels greater then having a large fan base that supports your rom

Yes! Great work! Maybe it's just me, but it would be great if you could also put a description of each ROM in layman's terms. Personally, I don't find most of the descriptions provided by the devs in their first posts very helpful either. Since there is no audio I think it would be very helpful to know what's different about them.
If you are the dev of one of these ROMs or one not listed, maybe you will consider my request as well?

They are almost the same... It's android OS. The only difference I can notice is the colors of the interface. Sometimes there some apps mods and difference in the camera UI but everything about this is in the description of each ROMS threads.
TriPNMiUI is the one with the biggest changes. But I show em all in the video.
Someone should sticky this thread!

Which I said I don't find very helpful. Those descriptions assume you understand all the abbreviations and numbers. To someone familiar I am sure it is crystal clear, but for a noob trying to decide between ROMs it's a bit confusing. That's why I asked for it in layman's terms.
In response to your brief description, and please remember I am new to the development aspect... Why do we need/have four nearly identical mostly working ROMs, rather than people working together on one fully functional ROM? Does working on cracking the bootloader or the drivers for the camera require a different skill set than developing one of these ROMs?

Now is the time, if any, to flood SE forums, blogs, comments, and email with this legitimate reason to update. No more unique X10 (2.1) user experience versus generic 2.2 being a fair alternative.

Great idea!!! Congrats
@JBM
allskin wasn't trying to not give you the answer in layman's terms, he was merely stating that if its froyo its all the same functionality wise. They all have basically the same speed and features. The difference mainly being visual, which the video works well at showing. If it has CM in the title or Cyanogen Mod it means that it includes a set of personalization options in the settings menu. The only fully working roms are those that are based on 2.1 eclair. Most the number notations are just version numbers which do not corrolate between roms in any way. Trips miui rom is only different because its functionality is designed around behaving like an iPhone. All the same features are still there though.
So really, its as simple as choosing if you want the cm options or not and if you want a iPhone style or not. Between the pics and these here videos, the visual effects/design will depend on what you like.
If you want more advice please feel free to pm me so we don't clog this thread with off topic discussion.

How to optimize our brain power or how to produce the ultimate ROM?

Yes, there is a direct link between the two subjects in my discussion title.
The number of ROM’s released in this forum is about 14 (more or less).
All these bring the number of developer that released these ROM’S plus all the developers involved direct & indirect in the developing process to approx. to 20 or 25 maybe more…
Just imagining channeling all that power into one single product that will answer most if not all the user expectations on the ultimate ROM!
I am aware that it’s not easy to get consensus from all the users or even the developers for what is the ONE ROM that pleases the majority, but maybe be we should try harder to overcome these differences.
The user’s opinion we can get through a popularity poll, what features and functionality they like to see in a ROM.
To gather the developers is probably a much harder task but it is feasible to bring not all but a large number of them to the “table”.
I would like to have the forum member’s opinion on the subject and how to make this idea reality.
I posted this topic by error in the development section, can the moderator transfer it to Galaxy 3 General ?
Sorry & thanks - Itzik
great idea
How to optimize our brain power or how to produce the ultimate ROM? 2nd part
I feel the developers (or would be developers) needs, and I know that it’s a personal challenge to release a good ROM and to get the approval of his peers and users.
However, for most of the users it’s a nightmare, moving from one ROM to another, updates, kernels & themes...etc.
For every single ROM that I have installed to date something went wrong, don’t get me wrong I really believe that our group of developers is the most qualified, dedicated & smart individuals, nevertheless, we the users/ installers are going sometime through a grueling try & error process.
Today, I am on rooted stock JPQ without a single issue, but, I still love to have some of the capabilities & functions of our Galaxies S, S II big brothers & more..
The only way to achieve stability, optimize functionality & to go places where no phones got before; is unity!
And with the combine power of our developers there more chance that we will go places…
In my opinion:
It would be really nice if the following developers works together to bring an ultimate ROM (Obviously not Froyo base) which can take the user experience of G3 to a new level. I know they all are capable and do wonder if they get together. Surely they will have to forget the differences among them if there are any

How to optimize our brain power or how to produce the ultimate ROM? 3th & last part
This is not a revolution, but we the users/installers, need to wake up and tell our developers:
We love your work, respect you effort and above all applaud your contribution, however, this forum should not become a battle ground for who produces the best ROM, it should be about; combined strategy to minimizing our frustrations by delivering the best possible solution.
Moreover, the appreciation of the users will definitely generate (my opinion) extra donations for the developer’s effort.
Rafayel, great initiative…
I can see all the issues i have/would have, already disappearing....:d
I dont really see this happening, cause I dont see a rom that can unite developers. A CM/GB port could have done that when there was no such thing going on, since it would be a great leap, but after that is done I dont see anything important/great/whatever enough to unite them under one project. A different kind of unity is more important, and which is already happening.
The unity I'm talking about is not a unity under one project, but a unity as a community, as a group of people. This is already happening. Developers should have understanding and respect for each other, should help and guide each other. Sharing what they have accomplished with each other would not provide us with one ultimate rom, but with many! Everything that is being done should be collaborative, not just one rom.
I'll stop now (since I'm pretty hungry and so I am having trouble conveying my thoughts properly), but I'll just say that I'm not trying to tell devs what to do, nor am I saying that stuff like this isn't happening(it is), I just want to express what I think would be ideal.
Good idea but you know some have already tried this... Yes, im talking about armv project they started out great but look what happened its now dead. Im not saying this is impossible but think bout it, its very hard for everyone :/ i mean we each have our own projects. (i.e marcellusbes cm7) and i dont think it would work Its hard to control a group of (10-15) devs i mean if there is no boss then its very hard to try to communicate and if there is a boss then some people would complain cuz they dont want any boss/leader. Also there is a risk of someone leaking info/tweaks/mods in such a big group. I myself think this will not happen but if it will, im happy
this is all MY OPINION
Sent from my GT-I5800 using XDA App
I dont think anybody will have a complain if marcellusbe heads the group coz all the developers and the entire G3 community respects him a lot.
If any senior developer takes the initiative then this might become a possible thing happening.
*Thanks to clarkkov who originally thought this and expressed the idea in Indroid thread.
stubborn_d0nkey - If, and only if this idea (brjshshrma - I never claimed this as my original idea!) can not materialized, yes, more discussion & synchronization has to take place between the developers (will save allot of try & error of implementations).
Just an example: I read very recent, an exchange of posts between 2 dev's that bought were using the same theme…

[MINI NOTES] MiniCM10 for Xperia x8

I have created this thread so that I can offer my thoughts on the MiniCM10 ROM for the Xperia x8. Think of this as a pre-review. If you have ANY suggestions, please leave them as a post below.
This is a pre-review of the first version of Mini-CM10 on top of the first version of the jb kernel. Both pieces were created by nobodyAtall.
I would prefer for people to see this as a MICRO review. The ROM is in a beta like state so there will be very little for me to talk about.
If you have not read my review of the MiniCM9 ROM, see HERE

Yes in deedii
A full review will be typed up once MiniCM10 is finalized. Props again to nAa to another great release.
The latest and only version currently of the MiniCM10 ROM for the Xperia x8 16th of August 2012. After using the Mini CyanogenMOD ROM I can guarantee that this ROM has promises of greatness. Many ROM breaking issues however still exist: voice command, sign in issues and so on. I refuse to hammer on these because they will be ironed out later on. So without further or do I will review away on the three main areas.
Visuals
CyanogenMOD stays true to the original gangsta' version of Android. (The vanilla experience). Yet again the ROM continues to offer a beautifully tweaked to impress version of Jelly Bean. Unfortunately, as of now, new wallpapers are missing however I'm sure they will be added later.
Kernel/Performance
I have seen a great increase in overall performance from this ROM. I can safely say that you won't be stumped by 1-2 second delays like you were in CM9. The battery has also, from what I have seen so far, been moderately extended. Getting 4-5 days of moderate use.
Advanced Options & Apps
I have seen no big update in how many advance options are offered. Similarly no new apps have been added. Hopefully this will be changed in the final version. A suggestions would be to have two versions maybe, one with advanced options and one without. Maybe a port of these options from CM7 can be created.
Conclusion
MiniCyanogenMOD10 for the Xperia x8 shows definite signs of the ultimate ROM. I see no reason why the final verison should not be ROTY. (rom of the year). I have tried not to hammer on the bad because everything will be fixed as usual later on by the renowned developer nAa. Drop a thanks by his post if you have benefited from him.
RATING: I will not rate it in its current state. :fingers-crossed: This is out of pure respect for nAa
I have spent quite some time typing this review, please do not troll. All suggestions on the other hand are more than welcome. Please hit 'thanks' if you appreciate my massive effort. Sorry if this is not something you wanted. Even though the guide is long, I call it mini because it does not cover everything.

Seeing as this is a review I cannot deem it appropriate to offer tips. Once the rom is finished however, this guide will be produced.
Thankyou again.
How far is this madness gonna go?!
I'd like to stress the fact that our X8 doesn't have what it takes to handle ICS/JB properly.
I appreciate your work, nAa, I tested MiniCM9 twice and I twice returned back to GB with the feeling of satisfaction.
These ROMs can serve as nice experiments, but are very unsuitable for daily use. You even had to expand the system storage at the expense of internal data, forcing others to use sd-ext, bringing potential new issues connected with that. It's obvious that you try to bring this to a usable state, but I doubt that's possible. Anyway, what's the point? GB can be modded to look like ICS and still work like a charm...

You got a point there. Then I guess it's better to stop working for these devices and let them die.
Development is about breaking the limits. If some of you isn't satisfied with ICS or other custom ROM, please flash Eclair or Donut and enjoy the ride

And that, my friends, is how soft modded roms are created.
Sorry to disappoint you with a somewhat bad review I understand all that you mentioned fully. I too can see the x8 becoming a legacy device in months to come. I myself think I should trade the Iphone 4s I got as a gift for an S3 because even though phones keep changing, I can see the s3 as a spectacular phone for years to come.
I will support the x8 community with reviews, tips and help until it dissapears. Thankyou for the comment.

NOOO, nAa, I don't want to disregard further development on X8. Maybe there's still something to be improved on GB and Froyo...
I tested your MiniCM9 for about a week and I only confirmed what I thought it would be like. Beautiful and attractive, if there is a reason for having it, then it's the look.
However, even though I used swap and a2sd, I still experienced that drawback in responsiveness and RAM management from previous android versions. I admire your persistence and effort. It's interesting watching how much can our X8 take...maybe JB is the end, who knows?

Sorry, but I know how ICS works on X8. Try installing 60 apps and use them fully for a week... It really is great and stable, but not suitable for with many apps

Yeah, I can't help myself. I have 5 dictionaries, 16 games, audio player, video player, browser, pocket, reference materials to school like periodic table, office, file explorer, xda,TB, reader, web storage apps,...
I always use my X8 like that. I restore it from TB
But with such a small amount as you use...I don't see a problem as using ICS as a daily ROM

Really don't appreciate that.
You can live in your imaginary world where the x8 is supported forever but we all know it will be abandoned sooner or later.
Also, with no ROMs of your own, guides of your own or support for the x8 community, statements like that will plunge you in very deep.
It's clear you didn't read my post.
XDA is based purely upon reading. If you struggle with that I suggest leaving. I myself speak 3 languages so don't even get me started on the difficulties articulation.
Thanks
thanks also to CtrlAltDeleteIrl.
Hey everyone, nAa thanks for such a great rom, and kernel work and keeping our x8's top notch
I actually wanted to share something with you guys, i've been testing on mini cm10 and managed to upgrade it successfully without formating data partition, and things work excellent.
As new to the forum i can not post into development threads so, here we go
A major downside to this version of jelly bean i think is the a2sd script, which i think is fine, at some extent(data fills up rapidly).
I rely most of time on link2sd app on gingerbread, but its not working in mini cm 10 (works but its buggy)
So i had to make room for my apps somehow (about 120+?), so i wrote a little experimental script based on a2sd, im rusty as it come to scripting but still gets the job done, i wanna somehow forward it to nAa, as i think it works good for my purpose which is:
Move/make symbolic links of:
(link2sd already does this, on mini cm10 is buggy)
data/app/*.apk -> sd-ext
dalvik/@[email protected]*.dex -> sd-ext
data/data/*/lib/*.so -> sd-ext
(this one free's up a lot of space on /data among with libs to sd-ext)
dalvik/@[email protected]*.dex -> sd-ext
(however if we mount bind with a2sd, whole /data/dalvik-cache, this is moved too and makes rom super slow)
dalvik/@[email protected]*.dex -> stays on internal
I ended up with almost a 50/50 ratio of free/used on /data (i just checked i have 153 apps on sd-ext and 3 on internal)
Also had to edit a2sd script so if flags are not set, it doesn't delete dalvik each time on boot, the only thing i don't seem to find how to do is, that this rom deletes the symbolink links of libs on each reboot(filling data partition again on start), maybe you can help out on this one, nAa if you are interesed i could send you the little script, I think you could arrange it to make mini cm 10 much better
keep the good work up!
cheers

I read your whole thread before posting, I always read threads here even if I don't log. I will post what I want to post, I have my own opinions you have yours, this is a forum isn't it?, but you don't have the right to belittle me if you don't like my post, oh i forgot! this is the internet, my bad, you have all the right to badmouth me, how convenient it is, wasn't it? BTW, What a helpful thread this is, indeed . Don't flatter yourself with the so called 3 languages that you speak of, who cares about that, not me at least, this is XDA. I will leave your thread, but I will not leave XDA as you suggested. I dont want to flame, but I have the right to defend myself, sorry for my sarcasms. I, myself want to support X8 community, sometimes I post here in the forum to help, but I dont have time to post guides, tips, ROMs, or threads which is......ugh.... massive in terms of effort, because I have a life outside of XDA. Enjoy your stay here Mr. Deftone. Thanks as always for your massive helpful threads. :good: I'm not trolling, am I? LOL.

I would say you are. If you want to defend yourself( I mostly agree with your opinion), send a PM to Deftone. This post isn't related to the thread topic in any aspect, so please use PMs to express yourself personally. That's what PMs are for. Have a nice day

Phishfi's Nexus 6 ROM Reviews!

Review #4 is up! Check It Out Below!
Important: I would love feedback from the community on issues they've noticed with ROMs that are worth mentioning in my reviews. I'm also switching to Google Forms for the poll, so that I can make changes or update it as new ROMs release! Check it out!
Ladies and Gentlemen!
Nexus 6 ROM Reviews/Comparison
Hello everyone! Welcome to Phishfi's Nexus 6 ROM Reviews!
The idea here is going to be to post videos and text reviews for all of the popular ROMs, based on inputs from you, the Nexus 6 community. I'm going to do my best to post a video a week, and I'll do my best to keep the reviews as unbiased and level-headed as I can. One thing I want to reiterate though is that my reviews will have a good amount of personal opinion, though I will approach them objectively (if there's something that bothers me personally, I'm going to detail it well enough so that people who don't mind that issue will understand why, specifically, it bothers me).
The ultimate goal here is to give folks a good idea of which ROM works best for them, without having to go through the hassle of testing out each one themselves. If you have any suggestions, please post them up here and I will add them to the list. I'm also going to try to crowd-source opinions on apps, so that I can include them in the review, to help give users an idea of how favorable or unfavorable any ROM's features are.
Hopefully, this project will give the developers a good idea of what issues they might not see from the development side of things, while also detailing the differences and preferences of the community. Most importantly, I wanted an avenue through which I could contribute to the Nexus 6 community. As a long-time member of XDA, I've always wanted to do something to help out my fellow Androidphiles. The ultimate goal here is to provide users with the most detail about any Nexus 6 ROM so that they can go through and see all of the individual ROMs in action and make a better decision about which ROM they want to try first!

ROM Developers: If you have any special features or important upcoming releases, please feel free to PM me so I can keep track of them. I don't want to step on any devs' toes by reviewing a ROM that's missing certain features right before they update their ROM. I'm sure there's plenty of unique ROM features in the works right now and I would love to make the reviews for those ROMs/features after they've been made available!
User Requests: If you have a request, please link to the OP of the ROM you're suggesting and also give me a brief description of the ROM's top features. I would like to start with ROMs that differ the most from eachother, so that users (and myself when I do future reviews) have a wider feature-set to see in the reviews. I don't want to end up going through the trouble of completely installing a ROM just to find that it's almost impossibly similar to a ROM I've already reviewed.
Text Reviews: Guys, I'm trying to come up with the best medium to use for posting the text reviews of each ROM. Obviously, the posts themselves aren't the best place to post such large reviews, and I'd prefer to just link to the reviews for each ROM. Any recommended places to do that? g+ doesn't seem like the best place, and apparently I can't write to the XDA Portal (even like a private version of it or anything, unless someone knows a way to do that). Let me know where you'd prefer to see it!

Benchmarks
I will test each ROM using 3 benchmarks.
First, I'll use Vellamo Benchmark. Vellamo will be run from a fresh reboot.
Second, I'll use AnTuTu. This will be run after Vellamo completes, I will force close Vellamo, then run GB.
Third, I'll use my personal practical benchmark. I will force close AnTuTu, then clear all recent apps then:
For my personal benchmark, I'm going to test the ROM by rolling between 6 apps twice. The test will start with no apps open, and I will go home then select the next app after the app successful draws the first intent (the main screen for each app). To make things simple, I'm not going to allow the data connection to affect the benchmark, so I won't wait for things like YouTube recent videos, etc to load. The apps I'll use for this benchmark are (in order):
1) Hangouts
2) Google Chrome Beta
3) Netflix
4) Snapchat (front-facing camera on)
5) YouTube
6) Google Maps
The benchmark will be a measurement of the time it takes to select all 6 apps twice (the first will load the apps into RAM, the select will be to load them from RAM). All benchmarks will be done with the device encrypted.

Thanks! I only used recently updated ROMs from the stickied ROM Index, I will add that to the poll if it lets me!
Edit: Can't modify a poll without a moderator's help, so I will skip Terminus for now. However, that poll is only a decision-maker for my first review, and I will be attempting to use some other metric for my future reviews (probably a Google Doc-based Poll, so I can have more direct access to the results and modify the poll options, etc). I'll will absolutely keep Terminus in mind! Thanks!

Just got word about Validus, I'll look into it. I want to start with ROMs that differ quite a bit and then start moving toward the ROMs that are similar to previously reviewed ones. Do you have any basic info on validus, as for as what makes it different from other ROMs. Is it AOSP based or CM based, etc?
Every rom is AOSP Validus is a run of the mill mutt like most of the other roms. It has quite a few features. Most of the stock features work as far as i tested. I haven't enabled tethering yet in my n6 build because i don't use it. But i'm sure i will soon. Entirely built with Sabermod and @Imoseyon has granted us permission to use Lean kernel. Different? Yeah some flash and see i'll have a 1/6 build tonight keep an eye out

Make sure to cast your vote in the poll!
I've updated the OP to include a link to Google Doc that should help the community list any issues or features that they think are worth mentioning. As much good information as possible would be awesome, so that I can include community input in the reviews! Thanks for your support so far! We're at 16 votes and so far a lot of people are showing interest in CM12!
Ok
I'm with @simms22. Terminus rom.
