[Q] Firmware upgrade after towelroot done - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Knox shows 0x0 In future when I have to update firmware through official OTA update I won't be able to do that since it writes that system is modified. Any thoughts?

Mine shows knox 0x1.
Now, when i try to check software update, it gives me error report.
But your's one should be fine.

Upgrade FW with Knox 0x1 is possible. Try hard reset Or flash via Odin.

It doesn´t trip Knox. But I cannot promise you (Knox is very strange thing )

[Q] Rooting Note 3 with MJ7 without triggering KNOX counter - Is it possible

Hey guys.
I recently got my new Note 3 (N9005, unlocked, no carrier) and upgraded it to the latest MJ7 FW. Now when I started to look for ways to root it, without triggering that KNOX counter, I couldn't find any clear info on it. Is it possible on the latest MJ7? If it is, how? Have anyone tried it?
Oh, just to make it clear - I'm aware of that "Root De La Vega" but first couldn't find working link to the scripts and second I couldn't find any info about whether it triggers the KNOX counter on MJ7 FW?
No that is not possible yet, because you are on the 'new' bootloader now, which prevents the RDLV method. I read that also kingo and vroot triggered knox. Sorry man, but for now it's better to wait for some smart developer to come up with a solution...
And going back to older FW is not an option? I mean downloading old FW from sammobile and using Odin dropping this older FW?

Downgrade isn't possible. U'll end up with boot loops if you try.
If u want root without triggering knox, then you'll have to wait until another exploit is found.

I tried kingo and vroot on my Note 3 (SM-9005, Firmware version MJ7). They both failed to root the device. But the KNOX remained 0x00, meaning that the warranty was still valid.
So, what do u mean by ' I read that also kingo and vroot triggered knox.' Does it apply to MJ7? Or did someone succeed rooting the Note 3 with Firmware version MJ7 and end with voiding the KNOX warranty (0x01)?

There is NO WAY at the moment to root MJ7 without triggering Knox... Period...
If you needed root you should've rooted it before update to MJ7 and then updated with Mobile ODIN Pro...But that ship hasn't only sailed, its been hit by an iceberg and sunk....
Thx anyway, I have to wait before new approaches are revealed since I'd like to keep the KNOX flag 0x00.

Issues when rooting Galaxy S5

Hi All
We know that rooting the S5 trips your Knox counter to (0x1) meaning that some features will be broken. I rooted my SM-G900F with the ChainFire Root and Knox shows (0x1).
1. I am still able to use Private Mode, though some users have said it doesn't work for them once rooted.
2. I am now unable to check for Software Updates on my device. Screenshot attached showing error.
Anyone else have known issues or would like to add to the list?

I hope someone helps you out with this, that is a nasty side affect of rooting
You can't OTA update your phone when rooted, you must update your ROM through recovery.

i don't think it has anything to do with knox alone. my s3(unit without knox) wouldn't update OTA or through Kies when it's rooted. Only way to update it was through ODIN.

Rooting SGS4

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am really confused as always I used to find the thread for rooting my SGS4 but with the new firmware upgrade (Russia region), I can not find how to root it, and I am not upgrading it as it is important for me. Specification I am attaching (from similar updraded phone already) .
it should be PDA: I9500XXUFNF4CSC: I9500SERFNE3 MODEM: I9500XXUFNA6 (I can only find with PDA I9500XXUFNB4 in this site).
I would certainly appreciate your guidance in this matter, as only after being sure I had the needed .tar and odin, as I always root it with ODIN being the simplest and safest way, I always upgrade via KIES.
I was directed to post here.
Thank You in advance
Just use the normal rooting.
cf auto root or towelroot.
Firmware doesn't matter.
I rooted mine with towelroot

Use towelroot if you don't want to lose your warranty (because you will void konx )

knox flag 0x1 is a e-fuse which burns out after the software is mofidied... there is no way known of setting it back to 0x0.
Here in Poland, there was a discussion about knox flag 0x1 and warrinty with Samsung officials, as the flag is also triggered when trying to downgrade your original firmware, example from 4.4.1 to 4.3.... and on tweeter Samsung Poland stated that the warranty is not lost when the flag is 0x1.. but is better to have it untouched...
Thank you for the explanatiom as such it means it does not harm the phone or prevent future upgrades? If so I prefer to root as I had done before. I have no intention of downgrading but surely would like to continue upgrading. I always use my rooted phone with Knox frozen

Actually I had rooted it before with ODIn already when it had 4.4.2 again, so it is already triggered? Is there a way to check it? Also if it does not prevent future updates I prefer to continue with ODIN

One more question and really thank u for u r time.
Will it effect Knox tripping for the future updates? Besides warranty voiding does it have any other repercussions?

It will only affect your ability to downgrade......you won't be able to with official firmware. Upgrading is still possible and the Knox flag being triggered will not affect you upgrading but will never re-set the trigger.
Thank you so much

[Q] unroot s5 sm-g900f without wiping data

I have a samsung galaxy s5 sm-g900f model rooted with cf auto root and it has a software update available so I want to unroot to recieve that ota update without wiping data
All the threads I could find suggest to install a firmware pda file which as I know wipes data
Any solution?
Thanks in advance
Flash the new ROM with ODIN, the only thing you'll lose is root, then you can use CF Auto Root again
That's how I update
samobile dot com will have the new ROM, or check the link in my sig for MEGA links, BOE5 is latest

But isnt there a way to unroot and get OTA updates without wiping and without flashing with odin?
What is your Knox status? Cf auto root trips Knox flag and it should mean you won't be able to receive ota notifications..

I think my knox is 0x1 but I recieved the update notification and when I tried to update it said "the operating system in your mobile has been modified in unauthorized way" does that mean even unrooting wont make me able to get OTA updates?

You can un-root in the settings of the SuperSu app,it will remove SuperSu and all its files from your system.
However it will not reset your tripped Knox.
If you rooted through TWRP,un-rooting will not remove TWRP , this can only be done by flashing a stock ROM through Odin.

So if your rooted with cfroot and get an update from samsung, just use supersu to unroot, install the update, and root again? The update should install with even with knox tripped right?
Isn't there a way of flashing just the recovery rather than a whole rom? It seems that's what the updates are looking for when they try to install themselves.
Afaik ota updates will fail when Knox is tripped

flash a stock rom and you will be good to go...

Nonsense. KNOX won't affect OTAs at all; if you have a stock unrooted rom installed you'll get OTAs.
You can flash a newer ROM over an older rom in ODIN and retain your settings and data. There's a chance your ROM won't work properly though and you might get some System UI crashes in which case you will need to nuke your data.
how can i find a stock rom for my phonemy baseband version is G930FXXU1APB6 and its a g930fd the only ones ive found are saudi arabia and pakistan. can anyone give me a hand
If you're just worried about getting ota updates, just use flashfire. It will apply the update without losing root, apps or settings.
