Hello folks,
I have Galaxy S5 Running the Original Samsung Firmware 4.4.2.
Since I bought the phone I have a very annoying issue of fixing the default number for contacts with several ones.
Whether from the contact application or from the popup screen when u click the icon of a favorite contact, I fix the favorite number, I use it, few times in a row, it works, but then some moments later, it loses it !!! so another popup comes from the favorite screen or the first number in the list is called instead of the default one.
Does anybody have this problem? Any solutions? Or is there smthg I'm doing wrong?
Thanks for your help.

Hi guys,
sorry to get back on this question, but it is really bugging me off:
When I try to send an sms to SOME contacts, my 9100 sends me to the generic SMS form - without pre-filling the "To" field with the correct number.
Of course the contacts in question does have a mobile/sms number filled in. Also, I can't figure which contacts are affected.
And: the problem seems to happen only with the original Contacts form. SMSsing from Agenda Fusion works just right.
Editing over two characters in the "note" section of the contact seems to fix the problem FOR THAT SPECIFIC name only, but of course I'd like to find a more sensible solution.
Any suggestions?
no?
When I receive SMS from unknown number and long click on that number to make new or update contact, it sometimes doesn't stick.
The symptom is like this, that the new contact was created or the number added to an existing contact, but once sync kicks in, it reverts to the previous state (and the number is once again shown as number only, all stored contact details are erased from contact database).
A similar thing happens sometimes with Notes in a contact (only if added from the phone), which I use to add useful information to that person. It doesn't matter, if I'm on 4G or Wifi, it's not reproducable. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
If I add number or notes in Google Contacts desktop app, it always sticks and gets synced back to the phone.
Has anybody encountered that problem and maybe even found a solution? Happened to me on 4.2.2 rooted rarely and now on KK 4.4.2 unrooted it seems more often.

Nobody has this problem? I did already cache/dalvik reset and full factory reset. I'm rooted. Still this problem occurs occasionally and it sucks big time! :-/

Hi guys,
I’ve three issues with the phone and I hope I will get the solution here.
1# the 1st one is in my contact book when I store a contact or edit a previous contact and store IM details/ID in fields and later when I click on that IM id it shown ‘application not found’. Like I’ve skype installed and running all time, in contact book/phone book when I press any contact’s IM it shows this. and its same for all Hangout, Skype etc. But in my previous android phone if I press one IM which has ID it opens that application.
2# another issue is in my previous phone which had 1st google talk installed but later replaced with hangout, if a contact has GTalk id it shows the online status ‘green dot’ in the phone book itself. But not that’s not working. I’m not sure I saw this with hangout but definitely I checked that when Gtalk installed.
3# another issue a with the skype application and I posted the issue there but didn’t get any response. If anyone have any idea please advice. Here is the issue:
I use skype all the time on PC and use it a lot on my mobile device Galaxy Note 3 Kitkat 4.4.2 as well. The issue I’m getting is whenever I receive a message the notification bar shows the user’s skype user name, not the name I set for that user.
Suppose a user’s actual skype name/username is ‘xyz123’ and I renamed the user in my skype as ‘John’ to help me identify that user accurately. Like many people does. But whenever I receive a message from ‘xyz123’ the notification bar (expanded and non expanded) shows the username not the name I set. Is there any solution or it’s a bug?
In my earlier version Galaxy phone (not Kitkat) I didn’t get this issue. please advice.

No one?
Does anyone know how to sort contacts to last name , first name from first name, last name?
Every android phone I have used its phone>contacts>settings>sorty by> last name
I do not see the sort by in settings now and have scrolled through all the settings and still can't find it.
This is a must for me and I'd hate to think they just removed this setting. I have the verizon model.
Thanks in advance!

bump
Probably related to the verizon model, present on my international at least.
Edit:
Or did you just check it through the phones app? The settings menu stays the same if you just change to the contacts tab there (for phone therefore), you have to open the dedicated contacts app to get its specific settings.
Contacts "Sort by..." not present
My phone is not showing any option to sort contacts by surname (or anything else). I have a S7 SM-G930FD which I've rooted, running Android Marshmallow v. 6.0.1, build no. MMB29K.G930FXXU1APD1. Going to Contacts>More>Settings only gives four options (Import/export contacts; Contacts to display (i.e. account/source); Share multiple contacts; and Service numbers.
Can anyone shed any light?
Incidentally, it's also not showing any of the stock Android ringtones...

I too have the same problem with my unlocked SM-G930FD. Sorting option is missing from Contacts/More/Settings screen and no where else to be seen, e.g. in Apps manager.
I have the same phone as yzfreeman above.
Have contacted supplier and Samsung and await reply!
Still nobody an idea?
I have the same problem and would love to hear a solution. Samsung tech support told me this 930FD software is different than the stock they sell in Germany with only one SIM
Solved it!
Go in the application Contacts (orange icon) not phone.
From there you go to Settings and after that you'll find the setting SortBy.
Hello,
Please have a look at the attached screenshot taken from the Samsung SMS app.
As you can see, numbers are underlined and if pressed it opens the dialer, and these numbers are not actually phone numbers.
I also tried ChompSMS (used to use it on all my previous android devices) and it acts the same.
So I believe this is not related to the SMS apps, it is related to a setting or something that converts numbers to dialer numbers.
Is there a way to get rid of it? I had HTC One A9 before that and ChompSMS never did that, even the HTC SMS app didn't do that.
Thank you.
Lot's of apps try to identify phone numbers this way. If it's not a phone number just don't tap on it. I don't see it as a real problem.
Thank you for the reply. Actually it has nothing to do with any SMS apps, it depends on the system, but I just wanted to see if there is a way that can remove the link.

I have similar problem, but still bad... the highlighted numbers (text) are in similar color as the background, so not visible easily.... please help
Though I am ready to install new app (preferably one without ads), I wish to do it by changing settings.
Note:
Changing an accessibility setting resolved it, but that makes it look bad
