Cnet Article about Android L - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I came upon this article earlier tonight and tried this out.
"How to get Android L's performance boost right now" on CNET. (I'd give the link, but I'm a new user...)
My phone is basically bricked atm. I followed all of the directions, and the phone "updated" all the apps. Then it was stuck at the google logo screen for like 4 hours. I decided to shut it down. Well, now it continually crashes the launcher, and my only option seems to be to go into the factory reset...
Anyone else have any suggestions?
I would have imagined an editor at CNET would have made sure that something detrimental wouldn't happen to a phone....he even says that you can just go back and change the settings if "certain apps" don't work well....well how about if a launcher can't...launch? Kinda frustrated atm.

You are not bricked. You probably need to clear the caches or do a factory reset: http://youtu.be/hMjDL1FVtcA

That's how it's supposed to be, if it wasnt that then there's something wrong.
Hold the power button and quickly press the volume up button when you're on that screen, then let go of both of them. The menu should appear then.

Just fixed...what's worse is after I rebooted/resetted...I couldn't access my google account because I still had the 2-step verification on. couldn't get the code for the phone that I couldn't yet access =\ GRRRR. All good. Thanks. What a crummy article!!!

If you don't know how to get into stock recovery, you have no business mucking around in your phone. That's the kind of thing you need to research and understand fully before undertaking any kind of mod.
And if you soft bricked while trying to switch to ART, you did something wrong.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Free mobile app

Are you on stock android? ART works fine on stock, there might be certain roms out here that do not support ART at all, or if you have patched it with F2FS for example.
Do some research before changing your runtime. Also Velocity Rom has ART as the standard runtime. So. Smooth!

I think you shouldn´t suggest to flash ANY LP1-6 kernel anymore. Today, everybody should know the danger of them...

Works well enough but Samsung seem to have tried to hide the simple elegance of stock ICS in some ways. Thinking of going back to CM9. Not much of a pen user anyway ,

Loving the ICS release except for one thing.....
I toggle silent/vibrate on and off quite a lot. When I do this, using the long-press power-button menu, some wonderful person has decided that I am so clueless, I need a confirmation dialogue box.
"Warning! Silent mode will be enabled OK/Cancel"
Gasp! Really!?!?! I had no idea that would happen when I purposely held down the power button and then with delicate intent selected the desired silent-mode function.
Just. Wow. It's supposed to be a shortcut, and Samsung just ruined it. Of course, I flashed completely stock without root, so I'm probably stuck with this until somebody figures out how to root this stock ICS release. (Maybe they have already, I'll do a search).
It's a small complaint to most people, but I toggle silent on and off many times a day. This is a huge annoyance. I'll see if there are any lockscreen toggles I can get - actually, EVERY single android release or skin should have silent/vibrate toggle on the lock screen, as it was in the earlier android releases. Motorola seems to be the only one who realises this. Sheesh....
Generally good, am upset by the lack of 160 dpi/tablet conform, just be aware if you're going for lower dpi's you'll face fc's

Question?
When using this mod to "hide softkeys" and playing a game in landscape say dead trigger, is that space where the softkeys would be is now "usable space" for the game or still just "wasted voided space" now and just blacked out? I would see the point of this app/mod if it "creates" MORE USABLE space by hiding the soft keys when say playing a game like this in landscape or watching a movie/youtube in landscape but no real use if that space is just "voided out" now.

It's a third party mod that isn't created specifically for this device so of course you will lose any functionality from using this mod as with anything else .

More usable space, just make sure you uncheck 'spoof soft keys'

Awesome, so you can get "more usable space" when using this mod? That's amazing especially for all the apps like dead trigger/youtube/etc to know they can have more usable space and do so.
Yeah i'm sure that will be possible. Already excited to see this device out only a week and all the dev support popping up literally by the day here! Excited to watch the progress of this community before diving into getting the device.

Nexus 7 random touch issue really frustrating

So it's been like 1 year for my old nexus 7 and from last couple of days I am facing this weird issue screen touches randomly everywhere unable to control the Tablet only option is to press power button and then turn on the power button after couple of seconds this is the only way tablet behaves normally
Then Random touches happen after few minutes this issue has been a nightmare for me
I flashed Paranoid hoping this would solve the problem but it's still the same pls help as this has made my Tablet completely useless

Double Tap to Wake?

Does the 6p have the double tap to wake option?
Nope, had seen a video where the presenter absently tried to double tap it, didnt wake up.
Though with ambient display I kinda see why they omitted it.
With the inclusion of the sensor hub hopefully the battery hit stays frugal.

Shouldn't matter with the fingerprint scanner. You shouldn't even see the lock screen.

That honestly bums me out, hopefully there'll be a third party app that enables it, I love that feature. I know it's enabled on the Nexus 9, as a Display option, I hope it was disabled.

Not going to lie, I don't plan to use the finger print scanner, I really don't love the though of it being in any form of "confidential / private" (encrypted) keychain.
I hope this can be enabled without using lots of extra battery like it does on the nexus 5. I use a wear watch so the lock screen is off much of the time anyways, so double tapping while the phone is still on my desk would be great. Personally I was not a fan of the ambient display on the nexus 6. So I am sure I will disable that right away.
Will I be able to wake up phone with voice command when screen is locked and and off?
On the moto x, ambient display was awesome and the was never a need for this. On the nexus 6, it just never worked right. I'm hoping sensor hub resolves this and makes it perfect. Combined with the fingerprint scanner I really have no desire for double trap to wake. However, I don't fault others for wanting it. Hey, they threw the LED in there when it was disabled by default, maybe dttw is in there too.

fingerprint unlock doesn't work well if you use your phone while it's on a desk so Double Tap to wake should be a must on almost all new devices.

There’s a lot of familiar territory in the Nexus lineup this year, actually. Like the Ambient Display, which blinks with the time and notifications when you pick up your phone or turn it over; that’s lifted basically intact from the Moto X. (The only difference is that the Nexus phones also kick on when you nudge the phone, shifting it slightly on your desk. That’s a nice addition.)

Each has Nexus Imprint, fingerprint scanning on the rear that works with Android Pay and unlocks the phone. With Context Core, both the Nexus 5X and 6P cameras can launch with two twists of the user’s wrist and display notifications with a nudge.

I like it. Screen is nice. Battery life is great (got over 8 SOT first night). It never gets hot. PERFECT size for reading comic books.
Negatives: Might be slightly underpowered. I've felt some lags and frame skipping in the animations. Speaker is not great. Not having root is a (hopefully temporary) drag. "Android OS" is keeping my tablet from deep sleeping and I don't know how to tell what is actually keeping it awake.
