Will it be available for a 25 month old device that has had 2 major upgrades; when Google contracts only allow for 18 monts or 2 major updates.

Hm! Sounds proper! They also sometimes use brand candy names (kit-kat) so if it ain't marshmallow then my second guess is definitely on Milky-way.

If not it should be. The Note 2 is still quite a powerful device for its time, and I own a Note 3. It's asinine that two years of age somehow makes this technology obsolete, and antique. If Note 2 ran Kitkat, what stops it from running Lollipop, especially considering that Lollipop will run more optimally than its previous incarnations. These companies know this, but are too money hungry to care.

It's always been this way.
In the technological world a device is outdated the moment it rolls off the assembly line. Such was the case with the first computers, and it remains that way.
Two years seems a short time to the people who spend several hundred hard-earned quid on a device, but in the world of technological advances, it's centuries.
Just because the customers think otherwise doesn't change anything.
I have a Note 2 as well and I would love to see it updated to Lollipop. I know it could run it. But I also know better than that. Contracts between companies are binding. That's it, the end.
It won't happen. No matter how much we want it to, how powerful the hardware is or how unfair it seems.
You have to realize how many updates they have to push out every time, and then realize how many more it becomes if they had to support every device they ever made. At any time, Samsung is processing upwards of 2100 updates. Every single time there's an update. Here, I explained it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55385445
Read that, and then imagine adding every single device older than 18 months to that list. Do you really think that's humanly possible? Because it's not.
And there's the very important fact that if companies had to continue their focus on old devices, they'd run out of money and time to make new ones. If they used that system, we'd still be using 1Ghz single cores and non-functional touchscreens. Progress demands casualties, I believe the old saying goes.
We may not like it, but that's how it works. Calling them greedy and evil is simply an excuse to not have to face the truth that our demands are impossible. If we demand the Note 2, others have a right to demand the S3. And the S2. And the S1. And the Galaxy Nexus. And the list goes on, because they all want it.
Hi buddy,
Thanks a lot for this wonderful work.
This is an awesome ROM and working flawless.
I am having one problem but not sure if it's a real bug or only my problem.
I have flashed V7.0 with full wipe on my Note 3 International (N9005), everything working great but whenever I am calling or receiving any call, The incoming voice volume is very less (even though I have made the volume control full).. It's very hard to understand if I am travelling or the person on other side is speaking gently.
any fix for this will be highly appreciated.
Thanks

Friends.
Android V5 is near launch in a month or two. So then Android V4 will be old.
Same samsung will launch new S4 with few more months waiting.
Update for s3 then will take even more time to come.
This procedure is going on & on with many bloatwares given by Samsung & also by other companies.
I love samsung phones & Use their phone, But support or poor support is biggest hurdel in buying s3 this time.
I am in serious confusion seeing future of S3.
It will get the update.
SGS got its update, SGS2 got its update, SGS3 will get its update.
Updates DO matter but the update plan for android 4 has been a disaster for ALL manufacturers except LG which we shouldn't even talk about as LG is the biggest joke on the android front. Even the nexus line is a failure. I almost got the nexus S a year ago just because of the whole dedicated concept but now I'm glad I didn't. I don't even think the nexus S will get android 5.
Samsung and HTC are those that I feel is the least slow with updates but still none of them will update their first flagships (SGS1 and DHD) even if they without a doubt can run vanilla ICS great. I thought Sony Ericsson learnt their lesson but apparently not as their flagship this year runs GB and that is laughable.
The only "comfort" in all this is that it's the same for all brands.

This cycle will repeat every year. If you want fast updates get nexus or you can flash roms on the sgs3 to get latest software. If you want latest hardware keep changing phones.
Also what support you are referring to? Why do you need support from useless samsung or any other manufacturer in that matter? XDA is your best support forum and you need manufacturer support only in case of hardware defect and need a warranty replacement or repair

Rumor has it Samsung, HTC, etc have early access to Jellybean in order to make their Nexii. Previously everyone besides Samsung only had access when it was released.
Whether or not this affects the update schedule remains to be seen. If it doesn't, you can either expect early-mid 2013 for the update, or flash it yourself (no company, not even some ideal hypothetical, can compete with homebrew speed).

Android 5 or 4.1 will more then likely come in December just like ics and gingerbread before that. If this is true, this gives you 5 to 6 more months with ics and I doubt the s3 will be as old as you are thinking; sure better devices can come to the market in the next 6 months but let's be real, the s3 will be able to do everything for the next year to a year and a half just fine. I've been with the HTC inspire and this thing is 2 years old yet I rarely have any lag considering I use this for everything including gaming.

Have perfect solution for u, don't by the SGS 3 and keep waiting for the perfect one, I have a Gnex and very much doubt that it will have Jelly Bean in a month or two or three , maybe more like 5 months and in the smartphone age that is like a year. Or go get a phone named after a fruit. See no one will get Jelly Bean before it makes it's debut on the next Gnex and thats just the way the cookie crumbles. Thank the fruity company for making the latest version the "best " one, at least with Samsung you get more from the next version then just S voice as they did with the 4S and a bit more power.
If you rooted, you won't bother whether Samsung update on time or not because you have everything the best XDA can offer you. If you are not rooted, obviously you are not software geek, why bother whether your GS3 running ICS, Jellybean, Gingerbread or any other version? Everything is a big problem to human if he or she want to think that way.

having a nexus phone doesn't guarantee you getting updates in the future. look at N1. and NS got it's first update pulled fast and then it took several months before a new ICS update came. That's why I don't care about the nexus line. And I think that the SGS3 will be a phone that feels fresh longer than any phone before, even with android 4.
ye, even i was thinking about that problem but then i just thought that if android 5 comes out then i will use the customised rom
Custom rom/buy new phone.
Ive had enough of waiting for retarded companies to update things.
Motorola milestone - 6 months late, not fully functional (GB)
LG optimus 3d - not available till september 2012 (at the earliest), sold with the promise of prompt ics update, instead waiting more than a whole year.
Never waiting for an update again. Just gonna buy the new phones.

They messed up on the Dec update and probably had to redo. Unfortunately, company bureaucracy works much more slowly than we do, and a new update cycle can take 3-5 months. This is true for any company that offers warranties - they have to break as little as they can.
Had they not messed it up, however, NS could have had its upgrade hella quickly.
Don't want to deal with company bureaucracy? Flash homebrew (NS certainly had them much, much more quickly). Otherwise there's still no better option.
s3 will get official JB update and may be cm11 or cm12 for the other version of androids

We only need egl blobs and kernel source from GS3 4.3 to run CM10.2 well (not stable but pretty decent like CM10.1).

Agree and disagree with your comment. 100% agree with the smoothness part but sammy 4.1.2 roms with a good stock kernel offer the best battery life (Up to 7hrs screen on time, my record was 6 hrs screen-on time spread over about 1 day)
What a lame excuse for not updating.

Unfortunately, based on what other brands are doing, we cannot blame so much Samsung. We got last official update few weeks ago for a device which is in the market from beginning of 2011. Of course who bought the device one year after it was in the market (like me!) got a better price but having more or less one year of software support and counting mostly on XDA community to keep the device alive.
We should blame who has promised 18 months of updates but failed to keep their promises (I know HTC for example).
Most of the cases there are not technical reasons not updating devices but just marketing. I would be happy having 24 months as minimum software support.
Correct me if Im wrong but I havent read any on that article that it is official? So why go on rampage blaming Samsung on the statement which might be a fallacy? You will just stress yourself.

4.3 seems a little far fetched. ....considering the aging of our device .I doubt Samsung will push any further updates for us ...
And its so silly. They said that s2+ will get the update bcuz it has more power than S2 (seems lik a marketing strategy 2 me)...
On tge the latest report it says Samsung owns 47% of all android devices.i think out of those 30% represents S2, S3 & S4 .
S2 still has a very large scale of users , its a shame Samsung is leaving us in the dark..

But dont blame the Manufacturers too much
Everyone should think back to the Times where Android wasnt there
Symbian times for Example... Updates came pretty Slow BUT they came and where everytime pretty Bugfree and with Really Good Performance and all that
The Update Floods on the Android OS doesnt makes it any Easyer for the Manufacturers nor the Devs i think
Google makes everything very Complicated for everyone, and i am sure that all Manufacturers first gonna bring out the newest versions to the newest Phones
Why ...Pfff Because they Have to keep The NEW things more up to date then the Old .
Well I know other nonnexus android manufacturers are much worse. I'm not even sure the HTC Sensation and Xperia arc of 2011 received 4.1.2 yet.
But seriously samsung can't compare with those manufacturers as they are not as big as samsung.
Samsung should see how apple gives software updates to old phones as apple is the only manufacturer as big as samsung and hence their main competitor.

Here is where you miss the point.
Apple has like what 5 devices to support?
3GS, 4, 4S, 5
Whereas Samsung has a portfolio the size of an Apple Farm.. XD
So they focus on the newer models which is natural, to boost their sales and try to keep up with others.
And while they do, Google keeps launching updates after updates.
One such example is,
Galaxy S Advance, It was supposed to get ICS but by the time it's turn came, ICS was outdated, so Samsung directly gave it GB to JB.
I think we will get our 4.2 update somewhere around my birthday in Nov'13

I think what samsung should instead do is to give the best support for those who paid more for the premium Galaxy S line and note line, otherwise their image will be no better than their mid range and budget phones line.
It's their own fault since the beginning actually. Their flagships so far is S, S2, S3, S4, Note 1 and Note 2. However, each flagship got so many variants. For example, the S4 has 14 variants including the zoom and active according to wikipedia.
Samsung might be able to convince people to buy their product. However, I'm afraid they can't convince people to buy their product for the second time.

Not exactly looking forward whether Samsung will push an update for us but they've got a point there. I think Samsung's not particularly concerned about customer satisfaction which means just like the others said that Samsung's likely to update the newer devices that's still in the market to increase their sales.

it is taking a while. I played with the 10.1 tab pro or whatever with the same specs and it runs much smoother.
It's odd. Here's the press release Samsung U.S. issued dated February 18. Not a single device on the list except for the N3 and SGS4 which were already in the process of receiving KitKat has received it.
Since Samsung literally floods the market with devices, I'm sure they're having a tough time keeping them straight to update. I'm sure we'll get it sometime soon. I hope.
The new Samsung tab 4 line-up are all loaded with KitKat...
but not for us

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
a press release confirming 4.4 KitKat will soon be available for the following devices across all U.S. networks.
These are the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Note 2, the Galaxy S4, S4 Mini, S4 Active and S4 Zoom, plus the Galaxy S3 and S3 Mini.
The Galaxy Mega and Galaxy Light are also listed.
Moving on to tablets, the Galaxy Note 8.0, Galaxy Tab 3, Galaxy Note 10.1, and finally, the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition
will all be updated to version 4.4.
Samsung says all carrier variants will get the update.
The rollout begins on February 18 and will continue for several months. <===== "Several months" OMG !!!
I actually sent them an email a few days ago. Got a reply although it wasn't very helpful. Here's what they said:

I'm assuming in that they will hold off as long as possible to release the update. They want to sell the new tab and note pro lines which makes sense. I'm shocked to see the new low end tab 4 lineup has it. Seems very fishy.
I think it's the same business tactic Verizon is using for the kitkat update in the bite 3 which annoys me. Mark my words they will release 4.4.2 to Verizon on day 15 post S5 release. Maximize their sales on the phone. So April 26 kitkat is released to those of us including myself with a note 3 on vzw. Sorry for the rant.

Not really. The only device(s) more expensive than the N10.1-14 are the 12" Pros. From a margin perspective I can't see the Tab Pro 10.1 making Samsung any more money than the N10.1-14.

Google's finally started to exert themselves in leveraging "free Android" against access to Google Apps (Play content apps [movies, music, books, etc.], Google+, Google Play Services, and Chrome). They recently published requirements that, in order to get access, OEM's had to use the latest version of Android on new devices. In addition, the Samsung/Google cooperation agreement seems to have affected Samsung's s/w direction. Magazine UX went from a replacement UI when it was announced with multiple pages pre-configured including being featured as the primary home page to "Content Home" at launch. Half the widgets have been removed, the tiles that could launch any installed app are gone, and it's now one pre-configured page of news set as the last of the home pages. Samsung Hub which probably annoyed Google most as a competitor to Play Content is also gone with the Pros. Leaks of major changes to TW for the SGS5 never came to fruition either.
So something's fishy but my guess is it's more of a political realignment between titans than something to do with any singular device or series of devices. And if as part of the agreement Samsung's adjusting the content in future s/w releases and updates it could explain the delay. This is all supposition on my part but it's odd that a company with Samsung's resources hasn't pushed updates to over a dozen devices they've committed updates for in over two months.

I think that I'm not stretching when I say that probably more than 90% of phone and tablet buyers have absolutely no ideas what version of the operating system is on their device. Holding off on KitKat for a Note 10.1 has nothing to do with sales. It has to do with priorities and resources. I know from experience that good developers are put to work on new products and so-so developers are put on maintenance projects. I'm sure that Samsung is no different.
What I really want is a CM 10.1.. much better than any stock Samsung ROM. But I also see no development in that direction. There are too many devices out there. It's becoming chaos and just very few can catch the time and resources of the developers. Samsung products get worse and worse in quality, Android messier and less truly "open" while Goggle itself more and more controlling.. the whole thing is a mess. I am tired and disappointed. My first original Galaxy Tab 7 was and is still king. Surely getting slower by all current measures but STILL working like new. Amazing build quality, almost 4 years of development and still going.. I'm running 4.4.2 on it, flawlessly.. how ironic this is..

Well you can always try and start development for yourself.
The hardware in the note 10.1 is used in a lot of other devices that are already running KK so all necessary software and drivers should be available.
In theory it wouldn't be all that difficult to port the note pro 12 rom for example. I'm thinking about maybe giving it a go but I'm not really sure where to start.

Same here.. totally agree with you. A 10.1 build should not be so difficult to get together as the hardware is so similar to other machines. That would solve all problems once and for all. But like U, I have no idea where to start.. alone I can't do it. Small team would be great. I'm even willing to pitch some money to get this started and everyone motivated. I am a few days away from selling this tab and giving up. It's useless like it is for me. And I need make the dpi higher because all too small and badly formatted as it is with some of the apps I use at the default 320dpi.. but "darling" Samsung has done something further to this tab's main apps and framework so it will positively NOT boot at higher dpi settings (lower values OK, just not higher).. I tried all possible ways, dpi changing apps and ROMs (I have a P-605). No way. This tab is totally useless not me.. and not to mention I have a disastrous yellow tint on the display and no way to adjust or calibrate that either. Samsung is on the way out of my life.. we get s... t software, no updates and impossible to even try fix it.. is glorious.. I'm done and done..

I'd be up for giving it a try with some people.
I have a strong background in IT and software and have some limited programming knowledge so I should be able to get all this.
This guide might be a nice place to start:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1908008
Maybe we can set up a seperate thread if we can get some people on board.

I'm totally up for it. Count me in and let's do it. But remember there are 2 fundamentally different machines.. the Exynos and the Qualcomm/LTE (like mine) are different animals in many ways..

I totally agree, howerver I hope the porting process will not be that much different.
A succesful port on one model will probably make the porting process for the other a lot easier to pull off.

Let's start a new thread and can some talent gathered and together to get this done! And U want developan overclocking kernel for the P-605. Qualcomm CPUs can go very high.. my HP TouchPad with a venerable Dual-core 1.2GHz running KitKat is overclocked to 2.1GHz stable. I've had this machine for 3 years.. First Gingerbrea, then ICS, then finally CM 10.1. Initially overclocked to 1.7, later 1.9 and finally 2.1 wwith KitKat. Yeah, it runs hot.. but who cares? Rock solid for 3 years and going strong. I bet the 2.3GHz Snapdragon can go easily past 2.5 or 2.7.. and this Tab is large.. plenty of space to dissipate heat.. If we can get CM 10.1 running and push the CPU, this will be an amazing machine..
Hey guys , I know that we are hardly getting kitkat for our Devices. So now would be the question , will we get 5.0 ? So body read anything about this topic ?

Yes.
Probably in some custom rom based on it.
Yes.
Samsung since the beginning didn't take care about SM-P60x. They could crush IPAD Air with just few tv commercials but they decided to not to do it. And there is few of us who are still amazed by possibilities and disappointed by product support....
If my friend would not buy it I would go for Ipad Air since I believed it is the best tablet on the market or I would buy Sony Xperia z2 tablet since Sony pays extra cash to most of tablet orientated sites to shout that it is no1 tablet with Android system..buahahahaha...
Still they released 4.4.2 XEO yesterday and I am so far happy with new changes which makes it more useful(adding more multiwindow apps and profiles). Wish they made more schemes to SNote and work more on changing hand writing to text function so it will work better and more professional, but I do not believe that they will do anything more for our Note
Best Regards.
Thanks everybody....

What do you mean "do not get"? What's this?
For 601 - http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SM-P601
For 600 - http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SM-P600
For 605 - http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SM-P605
Android devices updates windows is 18 months. So Android 5.0 will come to Note 2014 too. Just need to wait very long time before get it.
@Nik_SV in EU as far as I can tell only Spain has KitKat and since @Hudrator is from Germany he doesnt have KitKat nor do I in the UK.
So he is right we (in Europe) are hardly getting KitKat at the min.

Important for you to wait for the update OTA? What prevents flash firmware to another region through Odin? All firmware is multi-language.

What he said. If my sprint tab3 got kitkat this will def get L
But guys, the tablet isn't even one year old and it is a premium one, not any cheap device from Samsung. I am a little bit worried since it doesn't belong to PRO series but it still has 2014 in its name, it doesn't mean a lot but... Anyway, I honestly think we are gonna get it but arround december or only janaury.
My biggest fear is that only LTE version has cyanogenmod and 3G and Wifi version don't have it.
If it makes anyone feels better .I have had this tab since launch last year...Still on 4.3jb rooted and love it.....Kit Kat sucks ...

I've upgraded to 4.4.2 few days ago and I love it. Finally more apps in multiwindow option and profiles which are very useful for me. Still there is no additional templates to SNote but I can live without it. Hope they will add more one day.
Main problem is that Samsung did not use full potential of this tablet and did not put any marketing effort to make it more popular. This is why we are afraid that just like with accessories we will not be getting more system updates.
Nexus 6 plus 8/9 for me. Out goes 10.1 aand S4.

The Note-series is and always has been about creation and productivity. Good luck trying to replicate that on a Nexus device. Many people here bought the N10.1-14 for consumption which really undersells its value, uniqueness, and potential. To each their own.
The N10.1-14, Pro's, and S' all use the same h/w and with the exception of M-UX being omitted on the N10.1-14 similar s/w. The S' will most likely get 5.0 first. It wouldn't be hard to port the code to the Pro's and N10.1-14 shortly thereafter. With 4.4 having been rolled out months ago for the N10.1-14 and N10.1-12 it's hard to believe some regions are still on 4.3. But it's hard to believe the almost two-year old N10.1-12 got 4.4 at all. So who knows what any specific device will get or when. My personal guess is that the N10.1-14 will get 5.0 primarily because of its commonality with other device definitely getting it. Timing? Who know. Time will tell.

True. Samsung sucks on updates.
Having said that, the only thing I miss from lollipop on my tablet is the smart clip feature. Almost everything else is available through third party app, root and Xposed. It's still one of the greatest tablets on the market. Which is the good thing about Samsung - the hardware is majorly future proof.
I wish they'd update the spen and snote features independent of system updates. Would make life so much easier.

Do we really need another thread on this?
If you are unsatisfied, then say something to them. Doing so on here won't help anyone. I have lollipop on my 607T and wish I never downloaded it, as I didn't have issues with the Bluetooth audio skipping. Lollipop may be a better OS overall, but it still comes with bugs even though it is 5.1.1

nexus (singular), nexi (plural)
Samsung has way too many devices out and therefore does only support the ones that have the biggest impact. Though I like to see at least 5.1.1 officially supported I feel it is wishful thinking and also made me turn my back on Samsung all together and I will enjoy the rest of it's life with a community ROM. (Although I did notice the developer just announcing he is stopping). It does run fine with 4 4.2 as well so 18 more months and I will allow myself a better supported tablet
I love this tablet, it is great in pretty much every aspect, except internal memory. I wished it could've been available in 64 and 128 GB variants, but it is what it is.
UPDATES though is the point where Samsung sucks. I'm running Marshmallow already on my Nexus 7 tablet (it's great by the way, smoother and faster than Lollipop) and only about to get Lollipop on this tablet. What the F... Samsung?!
I think it would be great to get Marshmallow to this tablet but I have a gut feeling that it is never going to happen

Yes it will, when pigs fly square circles around my living room....
But seriously, this tablet is now 2 years old(close enough), the agreement was to keep updated for 18 months... Be thankful we got 5.1.1 and not the less desirable 5.0 with its memory leaks and other problems...
