Contacts are showing but only saved mobile numbers and not the names of contacts in messages. Also when I make a call from contacts then also the name of the contact is not shown in phone app only mobile number. .
I get it on Hangouts from time-to-time.
Clear all Google service/framework/account manager - wipe/clear then disable, remove Google account, reboot, and then re-add as stated previously. Give it two minutes to re-sync. #Profit.

Ok upgraded to 2.1 and then once finished i sync'ed the phone with my outlook for my contacts. Then i signed into my gmail account when i was going to the android market .
So make a long story short in the contacts it shows the names but when i do a SMS and on TO i type the name and then it shows up the person twice instead of once. So i guess it put double but in contacts it only shows once.
Is there anything i can download to only have 1 contact ( only in the sms or when i edit contacts it shows twice ) or would i have to erase it and then sign into gmail to get the contacts back.
when i go to delete this acount ( gmail ) it give will erase all contacts and etc.
FIXED THE ISSUE, in case others need it.
So you want to remove all the "Phone" entries?
If you do, click the following -
People > Menu > View > Make sure just "Phone" is checked > Press OK > Menu > Delete contacts > Menu > Select All > Done
Then press Menu > View > Select Google and you'll have removed the Outlook details, retaining and using just the Google one.
Then it removed all contacts on the phone so i went into
Setting> Accounts & Sync>Google and clicked Sync Contacts

brand new newb here - what exactly is the difference between phone contacts and google contacts? Do they relate at all?
Thanks,
Phone contacts are only stored on the phone, so if you wipe or it gets stolen, they're gone. Google contacts are backed up and restored when you sign back into your new phone/Rom

Google means that it is backed up with your gmail account. Phone means it is not.

thanks! So I sync all my contacts between my computer and gmail contacts, then as I understand it, gmail contacts automatically syncs with my Hero - so I wonder if I really need the phone contacts. I've never entered any new contacts into the phone but there appears to be 5-6 phone contacts anyway.
Given my setup, would I be correct in simply deleting my phone contacts and then unchecking Phone in the view from People settings?
2nd question - how can I just see what those 5-6 phone contacts are?
thanks again
Jack

thanks - next question is way off subject here (I apoligize) but I couldn't find anything helpful when I searched - probably because it's a simple question:
I've downloaded to my computer a .apk program. What steps are there to install this program on my Hero?

Use the HTC Sync program that comes with your phone to push the .apk file. It's very easy to do.

im running CORE cell evo ROM and im trying to sync my friends FB pictures to my contacts, but dont know how, ANY HELP?
Go into phone app, tap all people, scroll to the right where there should be a facebook icon, link your contacts to profiles, and update. You also may have to login to your facebook account first in the Data Services option in the Settings tab.

I just log into Facebook on my phone and it automatically updates all of my contacts. If your FB buddies don't have the same phone number that your phone has for them then it won't do it...
Still no luck!

Do you have Facebook Set Data Sync turned on in Settings/Data Services, with the Download data automatically box checked as well?

u have to have ur sim contacts imported to ur phone. it won't work on ur sim contacts. after importing ur contacts ( go to phone-all people- menu-import contacts) it should work.
kinda sucks since u'll have to sets of contacts for each one (sim and phone contact) so then hit menu - view- contacts. this will show u only the phone contacnts. then u will have to click on each contact. click on edit information - then on the top right theres a box showing a contact pic, click on it and it will give u an option to link the contact to facebook.
But for some reason, after getting all this done if u go back to data services and have facebook sync data off, u will lose all the pics..
I put it off coz i dont want push notifications from facebook..is that wat facebook sync does when its on ? push notification? will it constatnly connect online and check for notifications ? or only update when i connect?
Facebook syncing only auto updates every 2 hours as stated in the data services menu. It's not push notifications.
I am having trouble with saving contacts. By default it is set to "phone" and everytime I have to choose my google account when saving account.
I tried deleting data in apps , "contacts, phone, etc,..." but still when creating new contact it is selected to save in "phone"
Has anyone any clue how to set default save location to my google account?
thank you!

Go into settings while in contacts, and uncheck the other options, leaving only Google contacts selected.
Thanks Devs. From my VZW G2.
Nope... doesnt work for me... I have checked settings /contacts to show / custom and unchecked all but my google account.
stilll when typing number and saving a contact or creating new contact.. default selected is "phone"

Go in to Phone orContacts settings, and then click "Contacts to display"
Select your google account.
It will then default to save on your google account. Obviously you will not see contacts from the phone or other accounts but I save everything on google so works for me.
cheers!
Nothing helps - searching since 6 month!

Nope, it will remain saving new contacts to the phone as default. I also have all my contacts saved to google, because i sync it with other devices. I'm realy wondering that only a few people complain about this issue.
If someone found a solution in the meantime - please let me know. Thanks
Same here
Not really a solution but FYI http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50637743#post50637743

I have same problem but I don't know any solution for it at all. I though the KK update will make a difference but it didn't do anything. The problem remains the same in KK as it was in JB:crying:
Yip same problem here with no solution. Lost my contacts because of it. Really poor from lg.

It is not LG thing, It is KK to blame; Last update of KK (4.4.2) does ALWAYS default save location to "phone" It IS realy annoying !
you can choose google acc. from drop down menu when saving a new contact, but you have to do it so EVERY time you add new contact
P.S. And no, you have not lost your contacts: just go to settings in contacts app, then choose display contacts and select customize, then check google contacts and phone - voala
Add one more person who was wondering and getting annoyed with that... isn't it a bit strange that there's no setting to change the default contact location??
Anyway... is there a way to export contacts from the phone to Google? Say for example you're in a rush to add a bunch of contacts, can you somehow get them into your Google Contacts later on?
Guess I will try and add all contacts on a computer from now on.
One more person who finds this really awkward. It must have been the same before KitKat, because when I updated (and wiped my phone) I lost a few recently added contacts...
The same applies to the calendar, new entries are by default added to the phones calender, and I can't find a setting to change this.
Finally, whats up with the "recent calls"-menu? If I go there, I expect a list of the calls I've made, received and missed, in reversed chronological order. Going to "recent calls" on the G2... Well, I can't for the life of me figure out what it shows. I always have to go via menu and filter out either dialed, received or missed. It's idiotic.
I would be very happy if LG fixes this error in the next firmware version.
no one has found the fix yet?
its weird
When you save a new contact, you have an option above to choose . Phone Contact is default, you can also choose Google or SIM .
Hope this will help .
P.S Sorry for my english mistakes .
Problem still present in Lollipop...
No fix yet ?!

Just noticed that despite Google syncs ALL my contacts are on Google ONLY. At least the phone is saying that there are no contacts in the device.
Soo how do I force a download into my phone from Google? Should be straight forward but nothing seems to work...
Thanks

It's a problem with Google contacts app. Do you have the latest version?
Sent from my PH-1 using XDA Labs
I have no uninstalled updates...
You're right. Mine broke again. Bad.

I don't think the contact app has ever copied the contacts locally.
For those who may be confused about my issue:
From inside the Contacts App, I tap the hamburger (3 horizontal bars).
I see All Contacts and Contacts.
All contacts does not have a number next to it and if I touch it, I see all of my contacts.
Contacts has a 0 to the right and if I touch it, I see "No contacts in this account"

How many accounts do you have on the phone?
All contacts is a combination of all the accounts you've given the app permission to sync.
Contacts, is a list of only the contacts for the current account picked.
Further, is you hit the 3 dots on the right side on the list, you can do Customize View, if you have nothing selected, that will result in "0" showing up.
I only have one account and that is google. So how do I pick the "current account"? I have not setup a custom view.
Solution! At least for me
This worked for me:
Do this on WiFi
1. Go to Settings>Apps->Contacts
2. Click on Storage
4. Click on CLEAR DATA
5. Reboot Phone
6. Go to Settings>Google->Restore Contacts
7. Below "Device backup", Tap on the backup
8. Tap Restore
You will be notified when restore is complete.
There is a posting elsewhere if some but not all are restored to the device.
