GS5 Caller ID readout. - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

WAIT! before you yell at me to disable talkback or to turn off voice commands! (I did search: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2733627)
I like voice commands, and voice answering. I HATE the read out, here's why:
I get a lot of calls from delivery companies and service technicians, its always a different number, so I don't save any in my phone. The readout is loud and kills my ring tone. I NEED that ringtone to tell if its a work call or a personal call.
On my previous phone (The GS4) the two options were separated and i didn't have this issue, i had remarkably little issues with it.
TLR I need Voice answering without caller ID readout.

I appreciate your response, but you didn't read my first sentence, or the last.
Going to that menu and disabling voice answering to get rid of the caller id readout is NOT the solution.
Anything can be modded on this phone, so I know it can be done.

Question for developer genuises

Hey,
I am wondering if it is possible to create Today screen plug in that displays how many calls have been missed and if less then a defined number (say 5) displays the callers names/number if known? Has something like already been done? If not, how hard would it be to implement this? Any clues to help me to start this project?
Thanks
Check if phoneAlarm with an appropriate skin suits your needs.
Absolutely, PhoneAlarm is my recommendation.
If you're asking if it's technically possible, of course!

[unfortunately the bit you want, last caller info, is obscurred because it was my Mistress or somesuch]
From a technical point of view, this is very easy to do on WM5 using the state and notification broker.
DKToday might also be helpful and is free.

Any idea which skin I should use to get the functionality I need? MOst of the skins just show indicator or number of missed calls. I want to see whose calls I have missed from the Today screen.
PhoneAlarm skins can be built to show this info as standard (most skins have this feature hidden until "maximsed". But there's nothing to stop you doing it by standard)

Thanks
thanks lets see if it works =)
Bad on 480x800 display (HTC Topaz)...
um....does anyone know weather it will block the call all together or will it cut the call after the first ring?
I've always wanted one.
Thanks for your efforts. This works - kinda. Stops the call (after a ring and a half) and the caller goes to messagebank where they can still leave a message - that you have to delete later. Notification of calls still come through. Nice interface, simple to use and I suppose it does the job - saving you from picking up the call to the blocked caller.
I do the same by naming and saving the caller as PEST in contacts. Same outcome.
The caller must think we refused the call because it calls one time and half.
Would be nice if it goes just to the message.

Sometimes I don't listen my interlocutor.

Hello, I have got S4 with details you find in attachment.
Often when I receive or send calls I don't listen my interlocutor. Now this issue is happening vefy often[emoji27].
I replaced the firmware about 3-4 months ago installing an Italian version as you read in attachment. But this phone came from a french version.
I did a hard reset of phone too..
This month the warranty is expired and if I will be sure to fix my issue I'd change the firmware as well..
Thank you for your help!!

quick translation for anyone wondering, he can't hear the caller at the other end.

The issue occurs both if I call the other person or when I receive the call..

SIM 2 Call Log Issues

Since I have shifted to Xiaomi Mi A1, I have notices this issue, with the previous Android N as well as Oreo both. All the out going as well as incoming calls on sim 2 are displayed as missed calls with no call duration.
I had posted similar issue on mi forum as well but did not get any response.
I am not sure now far and wide spread this issue is. It may not be a priority also for some but definitely needs a fix. Please do share a solution if you have any.
That's somewhat strange as I use both SIM-cards on daily basis for both in- and outgoing calls and never had that issue on neither 'N' or 'O'.
So I don't think that affects all phones...
(Running A1 with Oreo, Jan 1 update, non rooted, unmodified)
I too do not understand the reason, not sure how many people affected by this, but definitely an issue I have been facing. I am attaching a screenshot below. All the calls are shown as missed call. I have no clue how to fix this.

What does the icon of a phone next to a circle with a line through it signify?

Hello,
I don't know where I can look up icons. I have a V20 and now I notice I have a phone next to a circle with a line through it. My ringer is enabled and it rings when I get calls. Not sure what that indicates.
Post a pic.
It is the area above where screen capture grabs - the smaller top bar which I think is a separate screen.
Here is what the icon looks like.

Very interesting. I have a H918 TMO and have never seen this even when in airplane mode or sound off. Which phone and what firmware do you have?
The V20. Latest official firmware.
It may be you have a missed call, new voicemail messages, or that you don't have VoLTE or VoWiFi (Voice over LTE & Voice over WiFi) working/enabled/supported. They provide HD voice, better latency, and clarity over normal calls. What phone model is your V20? What carrier?
Thanks I have the Verizon V20 - I think they call it something like the V9995. I have HD voice enabled - very happy with that feature as I spend a LOT of time on the phone. I'll try clearing out the voicemails.
