Hello,
I bought an unlocked TMobile GSM S4 and it appears to be a clone. I've put down below the information I've observed so far.
I'd like help understanding which source of information would be correct, CPU-Z & Antutu, or the Genuine Galaxy App. And since the OS is halfbaked, is there a stock OS I should be looking for?
Any advice, suggestions, insights would be greatly appreciated!!!
Obserations:
1. OS is very possibly a custom
- Upon hard reset, there are no TMobile apps.
- Samsung app opens into a Korean counterpart store-type app
- Antutu and CPU-Z are pre-installed
- Calendar, FM Radio, and several other apps seem partially complete (empty spaces, tabs don't work)
2. Home screen pages: pages return after a restart (that is after I have already removed several pages and left just home page)
3. IMEI and S/N check out fine on several verification websites (e.g ucc.co.ug, etc); I can see mfr was Samsung, made in Vietname, production date and
warranty information all present (Could this all check out OK even with a clone?)
4. Antutu and CPU-Z Information (CPU-Z in parentheses if different from Antutu)
- Phone model: GT-i9500 (CPU-Z: GT-I9500 JA3GXX)
- CPU Hardware: Universal5410 (CPU-Z: Samsung Exynos Oct 5410 1.6)
- CPU Model: Quad Core ARMv7 Processor (CPU-Z: ARM Cortex-A15+ARM Cortex-A7, Cores = 4+4)
- Revision: CPU-Z: r2p3
- Core 0: 1001MHz
- Core 1: Stopped
- CPU Frequency: 250.0~1600 MHz

5. Camera showing 13mp, but clicking sound when focusing. Picture quality not better than my Note2
5. 'Genuine Galaxy' App Readings (Formatted in app as Actual + Reference)

uninstall CPU-z, antutu, reinstall. Look on the results, compare if not changed with previous ones (both apks on clone can be fake).
find service codes for SGS4, check what works on your phone and what results (especially in service menu) you have.
Hi,
Galaxy S4 has no FM Radio by default, not only this, it's very unlikely it'd come with CPU-Z and Antutu, and the Genuine Galaxy app shows different results from the other 2 apps. Let's see each of them...
Antutu and CPU-Z shows genuine results, now what worries me at most is the Genuine Galaxy app.
Model - Yes, it exists
Device Brand - It's right
CPU HW - SMDK4X12 is a processor found on fake Galaxy S3s
CPU Model - ARMv7 is right, before editing my post I confused it with architecture, the model is right.
CPU Cores - Here is the killing thing, if it showed 4 it could be that the app confused with the big.LITTLE architecture used in Exynos Octa-Core, but as it's showing only 2...
Total RAM - 469MB is supposedly a 500MB device, so it's 4 times less than the real S4
Total ROM - 950MB is supposedly a 1GB device, which is clearly way less than it supposed to be
Screen Resolution - This is the screen resolution of low end devices
Camera - 8MP is not what it should be, the sensor may be another killing point...

It reminds a lot a fake Galaxy S3 (http://www.gadgetmurah.sto.my/samsung-galaxy-s3/product-679546.html), but it's even lower in specifications, but the site that I just linked could be lying about some parts, so it's very likely you got a fake S3... One thing is certain, it's NOT an original S4, sorry, but you've been scammed.
~Lord
Can't uninstall cpuz or antutu. There is only a disable option.
As for the service codes, I searched for the codes and this is what I have so far:
*#0*#
Sensors: only Accelerometer Sensor showing up
* #1234#
AP: I9500XXUAMDL
CSC: I9500OLBAMDK

*#32489# Service mode

*2767*4387264636# - show the product code

*#0011# - Service Menu

Seems very likely that it's a fake or clone. And the OS has so many glitches (empty calendar app, s memo etc..)
Thank you for assessment. Surely is a scam. It's there a way to install a better stock like Rom? And wouldn't a reinstall affect the cloned imei? Is installing a Rom on a cloned phone more challenging than a regular phone?

Hello XDA. No real question or in-depth review in this thread, I just like to share an observation over a Chinese Android Head Unit I just bought last Saturday.

Analog TV and its extendable antenna.
Front AUX input.
Two front Micro SD slot.
Reverse camera input.
A single bluetooth module dedicated to phone calls (Along with a dialer app). Inaccessible from Android system.
Since it's still at Android version 4.1.1, some application that requires API beyond level 16 cannot be installed.
Installed apps
Code:
Google Maps 6.14.1 Google Play Store
Google Play Music Google Play Store
Nova Launcher Google Play Store
AutoMate - Car Dashboard Sideload (Google Play Store says it's incompatible with the device)
Quirks
Hardware
Only 4 hardware buttons; Eject disc, Mute/Power, Volume Up, and Volume Down.
Hardware buttons are hard to press and made a loud clicky noise.
The external storage cover fell easily.
The bezel surrounding the screen protrudes too far which made navigation around the screen's edge difficult.
Too slow to even load Google Play Music's cover art properly (Blank grey boxes).
Software
Lags, even when doing simple activities e.g. volume change and notification bar swipe.
Applications that requested immersive mode can't go back since the Home-Menu-Back buttons are presented as softkey only. Swiping from the top does nothing.
Radio app opens automatically at every boot (Cold and standby). Undesirable as I have Automate running at startup.
Brightness level reset itself to max level at every boot (Cold and standby).
Google Maps Navigation still uses the old 2D UI due to the API limitation.
The unit's rootable using KingRoot with a bit of a glitch. The app states that the process failed; but at the next reboot, root is present.
The home screen are slow, unintuitive, and full of system-crawling animations. Fortunately, there's Nova Launcher.
I'll fix the post's formatting and write more information as I go, but so far I'm not yet impressed and considering getting another unit. But for now I would very much appreciate any input however trivial from XDA.
Thank you and sorry for any spelling/grammar mistakes.
Update : For future references :
Android version 4.3 (Jelly Bean MR2, API 18) is the bare minimum for a head unit as Google Maps Navigation with the latest UI requires it.
Knob volume buttons are so much easier and safer to use on a car head unit.
I'd hate to get off topic; including on my own thread, but I don't want to clutter the subforum so here goes.
Can anyone tell me the differences between Joying unit model number JY-UL124 and JY-UL135? Spec wise I can see no difference. Are both of them MTCD? Both has :

Recovery and rom
Hi and thanks for your correct observations and info about this device.
Me too I found the same limitations, but before to change it I would try to change the rom. My questions are:
1) what is the exact botton sequence to enter into recovery mode? (I found it long time ago, but I don't remember anymore).
2) Do someone know a rom that I could add to the device to try to remove the limitation indicated below? "Malaysak" rom or CM rom?
Thanks to anyone that could help me..
Bye

I'd like to start this thread hoping that as many of you as possible will chip in with useful info. I personally researched a lot before buying a HU, especially interested in how the default UI looks like, launcher, radio app, music app, EQ app, settings, etc... Got some useful info from different sellers, re-sellers, Chinese support staff, etc, but nothing compares to a real community, and i wished this info would have been available in a single thread...
My reasons were various: noticed some HU have subwoofer controls in EQ app, some not. Waze looks different (text scaling) on identical sized displays...Some radio apps displayed RDS text, some not... Some launchers and apps look simply horrible, some almost OEM-like...you get the idea Until we can claim that all HUs can be rooted and custom FWs can be installed, many of us will be stuck with whatever you get out of the box.
So i'll start.
To keep things somewhat organised, please post following info besides UI screenshots:
- Make/model
- Source of purchase (which online store)
- HW specs (RAM, ROM, display size, CPU info, etc.)
- SW specs (Android version, MCU, etc.)
- UI images (DEFAULT radio app, media app, eq app, bluetooth app, settings menu, about screen, launcher, etc..)
One more thing: there's many versions of the same thing running around under different store names, etc. If you have a HU that's similar to whatever's been posted here, just link to an existing post. Create new reply only if there's different UI elements or FW features, etc. Thx!

@zerozoneice - I see you have prints for two devices. What would be the main differences between them? How is the audio quality? I am thinking of buying the second one(cheaper) for my MK5 Golf to replace the standard stereo.

some differences are:
- screen size (advantage 9")
- settings customizations (advantage 8")
- possibility to set standby time when ACC is OFF (10min, 20, 30, 1h, 2h) - advantage 8"
- proper voice-over-navi implementation in the 8" (music volume fades but doesn't stop, navi notifications play, music volume goes back up) - advantage 8"
- audio quality is the same
- big advantage of 9" is that it has subwoofer control (volume/gain, frequency cutoff), whereas the 8" has only a "bass" slider and you need to globally adjust the woofer volume (gain) from the amp itself in the trunk
- working display brightness better in 8" than in the 9"
- better looking radio APK in the 8", but both display RDS info.
as you can see the 8" has more advantages, but somehow i'm running the 9" one now they're both good....
the perfect unit would be the FW of the 8" combined with the screen and UI of the 9"...go figure..

A couple of questions:
1. Can you run Android Auto as a standalone apk/launcher on this unit?
2. Did you try connecting a front dashcam to the Composite video input?
I wonder if the 6.0.1 FW will work with other T3 units. I spoke to my seller’s tech support, he claims that the factory hasn’t deemed Android 6 stable and ready for public use yet.

What's the firmware update procedure?
I tried @velvetpig's instruction but fails for my 'Topway?' unit. Neither the System Update menu under the MCU Update in Settings work.

yea because that's a different platform (R16)
for T3 i think you can try this method HERE
...at own risk though...
After a lot of searching here and elsewhere I was not able to find a unit that matches these parameters. The unit was branded as Premier AN-740 which is obviously just a sticker label. Any help with identifying this unit will be greatly appreciated.

I was able to root my device using the procedure outlined here:

Using the longer password and with some minor command line alterations (see screenshot here https://ibb.co/njSw5q). Hope this helps someone.
My next goal is to get to the factory settings. If anyone gets the code for that please post it here.
head unit info
Hello, it seems that I have the same head unit. Mine is unbranded and it's shaped to fit a 2008 suzuki swift, however all the codes seems the same.
What I got until now is that 8888 is the boot logo code selection and I can access to the engineering mode menu by dialing *#*#3646633#*#*
I'm trying to perform a factory reset because I accidentally delete the "su" executable and I cannot access it anymore even with the password, howevere there is a factory reset password that I can't find on the net. The next step will be trying to access the "RST" button and check what it does.
Hi Mr. Purple,
Thanks for your code

I can confirm that it works for me as well. I was not however able to locate the FM Radio settings I was looking for (let me know if you find those).
Good luck with the factory reset, and let us know how it turned out.
Updates
I have some news:
The actual model seems to be the witson w2-k7xxx (in which xxx is the code of the shape of the front panel, mine is w2-K7658).

I managed to access the system menu with the code 3711 and here there are the FM settings!
Here follows what I discovered by trying and trying again and searching on the net:
CODES (to be inserted in Settings > software version > small gear icon near HMI):
3711 -> factory settings
8888 -> boot logo settings
6666 -> a chinese text that reports "no update files where found" appears (probably the update code)
7777 -> a chinese text that reports "no update files where found" appears (probably the update code)
0 -> MCU update page
How to access the engineering mode:
dial *#*#3646633#*#*
How to access the firmware update page:
Click the RST button
touch the screen (and move your finger) until a writing appear on the top left
if a binary file is present in the root of the SD card, then the update begins
How to perform a factory reset: (/system partition is left unchanged, only user data is wiped)
Click the RST button
touch the screen with five fingers (and move them) until a writing appears on the top left
The factory reset procedure will begin. It lasts for 10 minutes
I mailed witson for a firmware update (in order to override the /system partition and restore the su executable) but they ask me for a serial number that is written on the unit. I will disassemble it in a couple of days and if I manage to get this update, I will post it there. However it seems that each model has its own custom firmware that supports only one button layout. If I flash a firmware of the same family (w2-k7xxx) but from a different model, the buttons may not work.
Maybe you can find your own model on witson website

Wow man, you've really been busy! I'm definitely going to try out those codes and knowing who the manufacturer is will help as well. The user interface here definitely looks familiar, though I'm a bit confused as to how you were able to discover the XXX code in the W2-K7XXX part number of your unit. In any case thanks again for all the info and keep us updated, especially if you manage the much needed firmware update...

Well, my HU has the panel that fits only in the 2008 suzuki swift, so I used the search engine on their site to look for "Suzuki Swift" and there I got the part number!
However if you have a standard panel maybe you can go in product page, then on the left column select "+ For Universal All-in-one" and see if one of the model is the one you own. In that page I see only 4 Android 6.0 headunit: W2-K7900G, W2-K7927G, W2-K7902 and W2-K7924 (I can't send link because I'm new on XDA, but you can easily find them)
From the photos you posted, it seems that your HU is the W2-K7927G

Yes, I think so too ( Link for anyone interested). It would be nice to be able to confirm that this is indeed the exact model before we attempt a firmware update as flashing the wrong firmware is almost guaranteed to brick the unit (i'll try to search for th exact P/N in the "hidden" menus). Besides, now that I have all these secret menus to play with, maybe I can fix the problems I experience without a firmware update. The biggest two issues are speaker noise while idling (even when radio and music player are off) and waaay too jerky FM reception (unit is constantly trying to find a better frequency for the current station - I was told that I need to lower the FM sensitivity in the technician menu to fix that). If I can fix these two issues, I can definitely live without a F/W update. Did you experience any of these issues or is it just my particular model / unit?

yes, the idle background noise is too loud too on mine. The reception seems fine, just a little worse than the suzuki stock radio definitely usable. However if you find a solution for both, I think I will try it too! At the moment I'm stuck to solve the "su" problem!
sorry to hear that.
i assumed the factory reset took care of the SU problem.

Unfortunately the factory reset only reset the user partition, but the /system partition is left unchanged.
However after two weeks of mails, I finally got a firmware update binary from Witson.
I don't know if it's compatible to your radio, however i mailed to [email protected], they asked me for a product code placed on top of my Head unit and then sent me the update after I provided the code.
Here a picture of the location of the product code on my unit (it's the top side of the box):

Maybe you can ask for a firmware too with your serial and then we can check if it's the same file.
Now I'm trying to fixing a network bug that made my cellular network connect to a roaming operator (TIM) instead of my operator (three) due to a wrong priority assignment.
As always nothing but helpful information from MrDeepPurple (seen them in concert not too long ago hehe). I feel kind of ashamed for not contributing anything.

I plan to take apart the center console in my car during this weekend so I'll be sure to check for that code - in addition to a few other things I've been saving for this event such as debugging that horrible background noise we talked about. I plan to disconnect the HU from all peripherals one by one until I find the culprit. If the HU itself is generating that noise I'll need to rethink my strategy. As for the radio reception, I did find the radio sensitivity setting thanks to your help and lowering it did help a little, but it turns out I've been kind'a stupid not noticing how short the antenna the previous owner put on the car was. With that size it was physically impossible to get good reception, so I just ordered an OEM antenna from the car manufacturer and hope to be done with this problem. The moral of this, I think, is that even though this HU is pretty sh**ty, we shouldn't be so quick to blame everything on it as there are other components in the system. One thing to note to anyone fiddling with the system settings from the codes MrDeepPurple provided, be aware that saving the settings will RESET YOUR HOME SCREEN TO STOCK so if you want to try out different settings do it all in one go, otherwise you'll end up having to replace all your widgets and things to the way you like them about a zillion times.

It seems that the problems never end with this HU - is this bug due to the firmware update?
At this pace by the time we get them to perform adequately they will be outdated.
Anyways good luck and keep updating.

yes, this happens on a random OTA update I received a month ago. I didn't even know that this HU can have OTAs. However I'm not able to select network type (2G, 3G, 4G) anymore because the menu is greyed and instead it appeared a menù with PLMN editing. I didn't even know what a PLMN was before that.
However this menù is totally useless, the selection and the editing of PLMNs is resetted when you exit this menu. The PLMN which has the highest priority is TIM, then comes three UK (why uk? iI'm in italy!!). I read that there is a sqlite db accessible only with root permission that contains those informations so I need root to access it.

You contributed to find the correct way to root this HU that is the most useful information to me by now!! Thank you!
well, it seems that the root procedure doesn't work on mine.
After all the steps on Ownice C500 post (even with the short password on forfan executable and the long one with the su executable) it seems that the root doesn't work. When I try to run the su command on a terminal emulator it returns 1. It's a generic error code, so there should be something missing. However I'm not scared to test it now that I have the firmware update files.
Did you use the su executable in the Ownice C500 post?
Are the other file useless (libsupol.so, sukernel and supolicy) ?

so with the firmware update they also patched the system against rooting?
makes me think twice before updating...

Having performed the root two months ago I'm sorry to say I don't really remember much. However two things are clear from the screenshot (third post in this thread):
1. I used the longer password.
2. Only the actual su file is copied and given execution permissions.
Not sure what's the source of that 'su' executable but it's probably from the link given as I can't recall doing otherwise.
Today I received a new update binary, I will try to upload it soon and check if it solves my problem

I think it's the same head unit, probably the differences are only on firmware release version

I've never tried waze on it, only google maps and sygic and they both works fine! Well, sygic is a bit slow and laggy but still usable.

The main reason I've put Android in the car is be able too use Waze properly (i.e. no weird phone holding gadgets) so yes, I can confirm that Waze works fine on this HU. Otherwise I'd have replaced it long time ago.
As for the idle noise, I currently tend to think it's a hardware rather than software issue. I'm going to take apart the center console and see what's what as soon as I receive some parts I'm waiting for (for which I also need to take apart the center console - no sense in doing it twice). Will report my findings.
Hi there!
I broke my main phone, so nexus my daily driver again. And I was wondering what firmware is the fastest for now. Is android pie usable?
So i did some tests, maybe someone will be interested. I don't pretend that these tests are ideal, maybe they should have been done differently. I just share the results with you. So this is 3 points: 1 - antutu benchmark total score, CPU and GPU scores (not for all). 2 - time (in seconds) of cold start apps, there are google maps, opera, youtube. 3 - just my impressions of surfing UI.
Every time I set up phone the same (as new device, update only essential google services). All ROMs are last version (on post date) and tested with Francos Kernel.
Stock google firmware 7.1.1 - 1. Antutu total score 87218, CPU - 28808, GPU - 15845. 2. G maps - 7, Opera - 4.5, Youtube - 2.6 3. Working perfect.
Pure Nexus 7.1.2 - 1. Antutu total score 78437 2. G maps - 11.5, Opera - 7, Youtube - 5.5. 3. lags a little, not critical.
Lineage 15 8.1 - 1. Antutu total score 89129, CPU - 34635, GPU - 15803. 2. G maps - 8.2, Opera - 5.7, Youtube - 3.3. 3. Pretty fast almost like stock.
Lineage 16 9 - 1. Antutu total score 51110, CPU - 12170, GPU - 11277. 2. G maps - 8.5, Opera - 6.4, Youtube - 4.7. 3. Extremely lagging and freezing
Carbon 9 - 1. Antutu total score 85854, CPU - 29425, GPU - 15917. 2. G maps - 13.2, Opera - 7.8, Youtube - 5.3. 3. Lagging, but much better then Lineage 16
So I stopped at Lineage 15, I installed all my apps e.t.c. and for now - 1. Antutu - 102262. CPU - 44223 GPU - 15747. 2. G maps - 8.9. Opera - 5.6, Youtube -4.2. 3. start lagging a little, but usable.
Hope someone thought it was interesting. I apologize if I made mistakes, English isn't my native language, but I'm trying

I guess something is wrong with your test, as Carbon 9 uses Lineage's sources for shamu. So the score should be about the same.
How long did you wait after the flash? Was the device in thermal throtteling mode?
Edit:
Oh I just read, that you use Franco Kernel which isn't meant to be used on Lineage as it is outdated as hell.
Leaving Antutu scores aside, what i feel for my experience, is that Pure Nexus 7.1.2 still the most faster N6 rom.
How do you remove all the lines on the reverse camera?
I'm installing a 360 bird view camera system, I have the OEM Cam line removed and the new cam video feed in it's place.
It looks perfect but all the reverse lines need to be removed. How do I do this?
I tried all the settings in the Reverse Settings page and none remove them. The trajectory and line ruler settings just add more lines.
