Hi all,
Back in the day when I still used my Galaxy S2 I had an app that managed permissions by giving me a pop-up whenever an app needed e.g. internet access or location information. I then had the option to allow or deny the request and to remember my choice if I wanted that.
Now that I rooted my Note 3 with towelroot I want to use this app again but I have no idea what it was called. Any of you have an idea? Also, other interesting root Alps aways welcome.
Cheers,
Muscleduck

Hi,
Coming from an iPhone, i was amazed at this jailbroken app called PMP (Protect My Privacy). Basically what this app does it have control over which app and what so-called permission each app can access (Ex. Allow or Disable app from accessing Contacts, Location and such). This is extremely helpful to prevent app from sniffing on my private info without user knowing. And with their crowd-sourced recommendation, people can share their settings on specific app and recommend you if you should enable or disable a setting, which can be very handy for user to help users losing private info.
I was wondering if there are any app out there or similar for Android that allow user to do the same function, Allowing or Disable apps from accessing certain PERMISSIONS when installing an app.
Hopefully Google incorporate this into their Playstore because so many apps requires such ridiculous permissions like reading your phone data call logs etc.

for root, su permissions, there is the superuser or supersu app. you need it if you have root to allow or not allow su permissions.

But it only has control over apps that required root access.

this is one app that you seek https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stericson.permissions.donate
there are others in the market if you searched. but, you will need root to use any app that will change permissions. you cant do it with an unrooted device.
PMP for Android
Hi there,
there is an Android version of ProtectMyPrivacy(PMP) that has been recently released. Please see:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-protectmyprivacypmp-android-t3107979
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.synergylabs.pmpandroid&hl=en
Thanks & Regards
So I recently got Samsung GS5 SM-G900H and was using orbot in it. The popup was telling about the com.sec.msc.nts.android.proxy app conflicts with orbot. I almost pulled my hairs searching for that app, and even tried taking help of Internet, to know it's there or not. But the good thing is that the conflict app doesn't exists in s5, but the orbot app still gives the popup and even other websites tell to disable that non-existent app while using orbot on S5.
It's only with the same variant or all models don't have it?
Please politely fix my mistakes if I'm wrong.
Hi fellows,
So I was reading about how to root my phone and use the app freedom, you know to buy in app goods, so I did root my phone and installed freedom, it worked fine however now after a while I'm having this issue, my in app billing service is not working.
Whenever I try to buy anything from an app it just doesn't pop the validation window and on some apps, such as fleksy doesn't show the buy button only a get button which does not do anything.
I have kitkat 4.4.2, I have tried to erase the google play store cache, I have modified the host file, including a # at the beginning of 127.0.0.1; I have unistalled the freedom app and still wasn't able to fix my problem.
In one of the apps I got the message: unable to connect to android market billing, which makes me think it is the service is not working properly or even worst, I got banned.
Any ideas?
I highly appreciate your help and comments.
did you disable freedom before uninstalling?

I did, I also installed it again and still same issue.
Well, I just spent over 30 minutes between 4 reps with Samsung, none of them could fix it and sent a ticket to "developers"; being an IT professional and frustrated, even more so, I poked around a bit and found the fix.
Go to Galaxy Apps in your Application Manager, click on "storage". Clear both data and cache, relaunch Galaxy Apps and you should be good to go (I was at this point). All fixed for me.
My Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 SM-T237P:
This Is a work tablet, that my company gave me, but you know how the tablets u get is... You have no permissions over the settings, task manager, etc. I want to know how can I basically give these permissions back.
BTW. There are two users, one of them have the app that I need for work. And the other one I can actually use the YouTube app that it has, and it can access the internet, using Google Chrome. It's called "user"
UPDATE: All I need is to install a gps spoofer (fly gps) so yeah thanks
I need to install the DJI Go app in order to use my gimbal but it asks for ridiculous permissions like being able to make calls and even reroute calls in addition to harvesting my contacts. Since there's no alternative app I need to use DJI Go, but I want to block it's access to my data. I've looked for permission blocking apps and found a few but they're very old and don't work on Android 7.
I have root access on my Google Pixel, is there any app, from the Play Store or elsewhere that will block permissions on an app by app basis?

Greetings and welcome to assist. There are several apps that allow you to restrict permissions but they all require root, my favourite is app settings but it requires xposed. You can find it here

Good luck

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately xposed doesn't run on Android 7 yet. Can you recommend any that don't require xposed?
Why dont you just go to settings - apps - gear wheel - app permissions and tun off all the permissions that you feel are useless for that app?

You could try this
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ovmobile.appopslauncher&hl=en_GB
but you should be able to turn off a lot of permissions in your settings anyway
Good Luck

Hi, VonMoltke...
As has already been alluded to, go to...
Android Settings>>Apps
...scroll down and locate the app in question and disable whatever permissions you find onerous.
You don't need root for this, or the need to install any special app.
--------------
See the attached screenshot of the official Twitter app, and it's associated (toggle-able) permissions as an example of what I'm getting at.
Hope this helps.

Yes, that works, thanks. I was hoping to use something like XPrivacy that can feed fake data to the app in case denying permissions causes the app to force close. In this case, just turning off the onerous permissions seems to be sufficient.
The problem with using Android settings is it does not include all the permissions. It's like they added these settings to make people feel like they have control over permissions but the most evasive permissions are unable to be blocked. Frustrating.
