They must have screwed something in 4.4.3 which they are fixing in 4.4.4 I guess
Its a major vulnerability in the kernel that is all 4.4.4 is a kernel tweak.

its to fix more open ssl vulnerabilities that were just exposed in the last few weeks. It was a 2.4 MB update for the Nexus 4.

I have never had a battery drain issue with my Moto X which I bought soon after its release. Any update to 4.4.4 from 4.4.3 for the Moto X will only be a small update to fix the security issue and nothing else. If you haven't gotten the 4.4.3 update yet, since it is a larger update with a new kernel, that might be the fix for your battery issues. For a lot of Moto X users the 4.4.3 update will be rolled into 4.4.4 but for those of us who got 4.4.3 weeks ago it will only be a small update the same as the nexus devices..
Can anyone that had gotten the 4.4.3 update for the moto x pull the new phone dialer for the people that is still waiting for the update? Please

Dear you are right that this is the latest update of Android 4.4.4. The main reason behind this update is that recently after the launch of Kitkat, a security virus named "Heartbleed" bug Google managed to remove that issue with this update.
Along with the security issue, many more improvements are also done in Android. The UI improvement is given for more better interface, Also the issue of fast battery draining while using the camera is also resolved with this update. But unfortunately, this update is only offered in Nexus series. No other product is having this update currently.

The AOSP changelog for 4.4.4 contains only security fixes there are no fixes for camera or battery issues. Since it is only available for nexus devices no one knows yet what other fixes a manufacturer might put into it for their individual devices. This update also isn't about heartbleed it is another vulnerability in open ssl that was just discovered after heartbleed was already patched.

well you have to wait because it looks like Motorola is working on 4.4.4 update.
Waiting for 4.4.4
I don't think we will receive the update 4/5 weeks before as other sites stated that .But it is clear that no 4.4.3 ,direct 4.4.4.
Hopefully this explains the delayed roll-out of 4.4.3. The question is now; will 4.4.4 be subject to another staged roll-out? Considering the changes are apparently minimal (only security fixes) - 4.4.4 could roll-out in more than one country at once.
Wow. That article is so poorly written, I don't see how anyone could base anything off what it says.
now iam on xt1033 dualsim 8 gb and still on 4.4.2 and no get update to 4.4.3
and i hope get update 4.4.4 later
Directly 4.4 not before of 1 month for europe i think. Probably more. Hoping to be wrong for me lol
Hope it gets europe soon. *fingers crossed*

I read all that carefully, not only the moto g isn't specified, but also it clearly says they are referring to the "droid" line of devices, not the moto line...
But I seriously doubt we won't get any Android L* sometime in the future, this is a gpe device, when Google took it in, we got a 2+ year (or until Qualcomm goes bankrupt) software warranty.

LATEST UPDATE [06-19-2015]
Full deployment has started for US Retail, Brazil Retail and Rogers in Canada.
Source: David Schuster - https://plus.google.com/+DavidSchuster/posts/bEVD4De32Uo
UPDATE [06-09-2015]
"I wanted to give a quick update on where we are with the Lollipop upgrades for the 2013 Moto X (1st Gen) devices.
We have started full soak testing in France and Germany retail this week with the expectation of full deployment next week if all goes well.
In addition, we have addressed an issue we found in a previous soak test and should start full soak testing in the US and Brazil for retail later this week. If all goes well, full deployment can happen the following week.
There were some questions about support for Lollipop upgrades from our carrier channels. We are in a number of the carrier labs now so we don't anticipate issues in getting the upgrades deployed. As you guys know.... the carrier channels typically take longer.
UPDATE: If all goes well with the soak testing this week we expect to start deployment for 2013 Moto X (1st gen) in India next week."

UPDATE [04-22-2015]

Do you mean those who installed 5.0.2 test drive?
I don't think Motorola would leave the official MFN testers on an incomplete test drive version, furthermore it makes sense to use the same testers to test 5.1, so as soon as those users get 5.1 it will leak and those who sideloaded 5.0.2 will have the upgrade.
Otherwise, it would be as easy as return to 4.4.4 temporary (skipping gpt and motoboot) and sideload the 5.1 upgrade, not big deal.
No matter what, the situation is not to feel bad about them, maybe they'll even get the upgrade before you do.
I have an brazilian XT 1058 and take the soak. I will be able to update to 5.1?

I'm not saying Moto did or did not fix anything, but so many people keep saying "Ohhh its version XXXX which has XXXX bug!"
1.) We don't run AOSP
2.) When google updates android, all of those changes are published. 5.1 is NOT a full re-write, sections of code are fixed. These fixes are published and if moto REALLY felt like it they could apply all the same code changes to a 5.0.1 base... At that point what is "version number" is is kinda semantics....
Moto started work on 5.0.2, so that is what their build is called, there is no reason they cannot include the already published bug fixes from later versions of android so they they can release their tested a developed build rather then throwing everything away and starting with a new base every time google updates.
Looks like a new 5.0.1 firmware dropped to me and a coworker this morning.

and when do you think that the 5.1.1 update is going to come out? The sprint variant users have said it made them love their phone again...
I believe I read on the official update PDF, that there are TWO parts to the update.
In order to use Video Calling and HD Voice for Advanced Calling on the Note 4, an
additional 46-60 minutes is required for activation that includes OTA software update:
- Part 1: Download – 4 minutes, Upgrade – 8 minutes (12 minutes total)
- Part 2: Download – 18 minutes, Upgrade – 16 minutes (34 minutes total)
You will need up to 1.7GB of reserved memory to upgrade.
You will be prompted to clear space via storage settings if there is insufficient memory available.
Due to changes in the Lollipop OS, a Low Memory pop up will show until you have freed up enough memory space.

That looks to be related to the initial Lollipop update for the Note 4 (which WAS a two part update), and not this latest update (which I think only addresses the Stagefright issue).

Awesome! Im not typically worried about this kind of stuff. I have a flawless track record when it comes to security. But Id rather be safe than sorry. Wonder how long it will take hsbadr to make a Safe Upgrade out of BOG5
could be Stagefright fixes too.

I don't think they would "soak" for stagefright.
Not sure .... David Schuster hints it is stagefright, but I hope it is VoLTE.

What's the normal difference in roll out between regions? By that I mean - if an update pops up in the US, is it normally quite fast that it rolls out to other countries? I would like to think that would be the case for the "pure", unbranded devices.
Definitely no volte in this ota? That's ridiculous for a phone that was supposed to have it Q4 2014...

The update for the xt1096 Verizon models included a new fsg.mbn file, patches for the modem files (normally found in the NON-HLOS. bin file.) It patched some binary files in /system/bin, /system/lib and then many of the included apps had patches for the odex files including some of the Verizon apps. This means that the update for your carrier would be different from another carriers update and probably needs to be approved by the respective carrier before being released.

Hi there. I appreciate that the release for Verizon will be Verizon specific but here in the UK, the Moto X only comes unlocked direct from Motorola. There are no carriers over here that ship a "branded" device.
I'm a little surprised Moto managed to get the update out to the Verizon specific models before the unbranded ones! Hopefully we won't be waiting much longer...
Yea, but no way to edit build.prop without root

The worst part is when they released the Moto E2 it ended up being a lie.
"And while other smartphones in this category don't always support upgrades, we won't forget about you, and we'll make sure your Moto E stays up to date after you buy it."

Edit #2 The Moto blog doesn't say that we definitely won't get it.
They basically say this is the 100% yes list.

Wow, so it only gets 1 incremental update & 1 stage fright patch? The phone literally released in 2015, yet it has achieved EOL only a few months after it's released, surely this is just a joke...even the Moto G features the same SD410 so there's no excuse.

There is excuse, it's called price
I've been thinking about this. I wonder if they're just getting done variants first because it become their priority and their new business model. It doesn't necessarily mean they're going to leave us all in the dark on the carriers. They also did have the disclaimer on the web page that its all subject to change. I'm going to hold off on my rage a little bit and see what happens.
To be honest the only thing I'm interested in in marshmallow is Google on tap.

The Moto G 2013 saw official support from 4.3 to 5.1 ... I guess Lenovo is likely going to push a 3rd gen E that's keeping in line with the design of the current series.

I'd imagine we will probably get M eventually. I just don't think Motorola wanted to commit to the update until it had the source code and could verify it would run fine on a device this low spec'd.

Well we're not on Motos list...devices that weren't on the list for 5.X never received it. Source was pushed to AOSP on the 5th...I think its a entry level/disposable device in their eyes and they're looking to the next gen already. But to be fair they guaranteed "1" update and I guess that was 5.0.2 to 5.1...

Already got burned with the Atrix 4G when they left it on 2.3. Gave Moto another chance with the E 2015, never again.
