[Q] samsung link between s4 and 10.1 Tab Pro - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
Firstly apologies if this is an already existing thread.
Basically I bought the relatively new 10.1 Tab Pro running 4.42, and I'm having trouble connecting it to my Samsung galaxy s4 via Samsung link. When I open the application on either device I can clearly see each device but when I try and connect to either device it comes up with the error message : unable to connect to the device. Check the connection status.
Now I've researched this issue and a majority of the time people say to clear the All share data and cache. I've done this and it still does not work.
Are there any particular security settings I should be allowing on either device ?
Cheers

Issue Rooting Phone - Region based issue perhaps?

Hi All,
I have read all the relevant threads in this forum regarding this, and I can't find an answer so here goes:
I got a brand new Galaxy S4 i9000 gifted to me.
This was from China I believe (the phone was bought in singapore but it has Baidu Input on it so I assume it was sourced in China - i may be wrong)
I can not for the life of me get Odin to recognize my phone;
I have tried everything recommended; (including installing drivers, USB debugging etc. yes I have also tried opening Odin first vice-versa)
Additionally, I can not get the phone into recovery mode (no combination of buttons seems to work - tried everything).
I came to the conclusion that this must be a region thing?
Anyone have any ideas about how I can:
1) get odin to recognize my phone
2) proceed to root (i suspect solving no. 1 will give this solution).
Many thanks.

You probably have a Chinese fake Galaxy S4, clone based on the S4. What cpu do you have installed and what is the software buildnumber.
BTW I9000 was the modelnumber of the first Galaxy S launched. You cannot root or flash stock or custom roms designed for the S4 as you will most likely brick the phone.

Upload a mobile pictures
Does air view , smart scroll etc wrkng ?
.
Was it recovery or download mode that showed a clone?
If it is a real S4 then you are probably having trouble flashing the modem. That was where it kept screwing up on the S3... Unfortunately the answer for that was to flash using Mobile ODIN but that doesn't support the S4 I9500 as of yet....

If you can't get it to go to Download/Odin Mode then it is a clone
can you check if it has the LCD TEST by typing *#0*# on the Phone Dialer, if you also don't have this then it is a clone
lastly download CPU-Z from the PlayStore and check if the processor is Snapdragon 600

No WiFi or Mobile Data after Unroot

I recently decided to unroot my Galaxy S4 SGH-I337 from AT&T using the methods and the downloads from this website here: http://www.androidrootz.com/2014/03/how-to-unrootunbrick-at-galaxy-s4-sgh.html
Now, when I turn my phone on, neither my WiFi or my mobile data will work, and if I try to turn my WiFi on, I get a popup from Security Information that says "This device has detected an application attempting to perform actions that are not permitted. These actions have been blocked.
I've tried pulling out the battery, I've tried turning WiFi power save off from the dialer menu, but neither one has worked. Not to mention my device is so old now it's probably out of warranty. I'm not really sure what to do from here.
The forum for the AT&T s4 i337 is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att
This may help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2616221
Please don't open duplicate threads in different forums it just clogs up the boards

I will close this one and leave the other one open

Before proceeding on activated new VZW Galaxy S7 Edge . . .

Hello group!
I have a question before getting started with my new phone
DETAILS:
from "About Phone"
Android version: 6.0.1
Baseband version: G935VVRU4API3
Kernel version: 3.18.20
Build number MMB29M.G935VVRU4API3
I have not yet entered my google credentials, no wifi access points, and the phone is in "Airplane Mode". I expect that a Verizon system update (to Nougat?) will start soon after I turn off airplane mode & enable wifi.
I HAVE on my Win10x64 computer, properly installed Samsung drivers, installed Samsung Smart Switch, did a test backup (settings only), enabled developer mode (phone) and turned on USB debugging (phone)
I'm upgrading from a rooted Galaxy S4 (running Android 4.3), and although I plan to root my new S7E in the future, I think I will run stock for awhile. Although I did no rom installs on the S4, (had safestrap & a small rom installed in one of the partitions, but rarely used it), I will miss TiBu for a while, Tasker advanced stuff, root options in the AutoApps suite.
I also understand removing bloatware is a little easier these days for unrooted phones.
QUESTION:
Is there any recommendation that I should do/save/copy/settings to this phone before I continue?
After reading the MM & N threads on rooting (great work) I believe I can root in the future using Odin, ADB, etc.
Actually, as I read this, I'm thinking, "This is a stupid question, the phone is unrooted, I can't provide anything useful to the group!"
But, any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

You can try using smartswitch on your phone. Go to to the Samsung apps store and download smart switch. I think that will help you transfer stuff to your new device.
If you are wanting to backup your s7 you need to download smartswitch on your computer and do a backup.
it will save settings, apps, and other things for you.
If you are wanting to restore information onto your phone when you first set it up it should have mentioned something about a transfer where you would've touch the two phones together using NFC and they would transfer settings and other info.

Thanks zimgir124,
I did install the smartswitch on the PC, and it backed up both the S4 & S7 pretty well. It would not backup my sms though (perhaps because the file is huge, goes back to 2010)
As for transferring settings, the NFC transfer sounded interesting, but I chose to redo the apps manually. I really wanted to keep only my sms, mms, & call log, so I used MyBackup Pro (since I couldn't use TiBu) which worked splendidly.
Using 4g only (wifi not yet enabled), I re-installed many of the apps individually, & set them up from scratch. Then I started learning the ins & outs of Android 6. This is SO different from the 4.3 I am used to!
Once I was comfortable, I connected to my home wifi network. Sure enough, within 15 minutes, the phone was prompting me to download & update to Android 7.0
To this point, the phone is running very smoothly, and the battery life is pretty good. This is my first android phone where the battery is not user replaceable. I also miss the IR blaster on the Galaxy S4. I saw no reports of it being added to the new S8 (which is why I chose the older, less expensive S7E)
I read your continuing guide on rooting, and I'm sure I'll take the plunge (again)
Again, thank you for your response
Chris

Samsung Tab A7 SM-T505

Hi everyone, I have a Samsung Tab A7 (T-505) that does not allow me to unlock OEM to be able to Root it as it belongs to an association, therefore with Kies active from the beginning (witch cannot be disabled). Do you know another method, or do you know a method to be able to TOTALLY delete the software and restore it with other stock without factory blocks? Thanks to anyone who wants to help me.
