[Q] Update to 4.4; Stuck in 4.3 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I have had this phone for about a month and I cant seem to get my phone to update to 4.4.
When I check with the updating service, says its up to date, but I am still at 4.3.
I have been getting updates every so often OTA, but they dont say anything about upgrading OS.
Although, at the most recent update, it said there was an error with the update.
Which wouldnt be too bad but now my battery life drains quickly. Last week, I could go a full day without a charge, now I have to plug in by mid day. I haven't installed any apps or changed my behavior since before. Screen brightness is low and I kill app regular.
Kies hasnt been helpful either. Any tips on at least getting my phone to 4.4? Any help is welcome.

OTA of 2.1/KA2 ???

So I woke up this morning with an OTA update pending. I updated thinking that tmo was finally pushing 2.2 over the air...
Well after the update, I am still on firmware 2.1-update1 but my baseband has been updated to KA2??
My kernel version is 2.6.29.
My build number is ECLAIR.UVKA6.
Why would they push this but no froyo?
The difference I have noticed is that my battery doesn't drain nearly as fast when my phone is on but not being used with the screen off (standby mode?).

If you were still on JI6, then you'd get this update. It's not Froyo.. Froyo was the KA6 update only available via Kies.
It has something to do with network compatibility, check the TMo forum.
So is Tmo ever going to release an OTA froyo? Or is the only source for froyo through kies?
That would be pretty weak if kies was the only source for update...
^I would say yes, because clearly they are still working on it since there are leaks post KA6. Hopefully it will be 2.2.1, they released KA6 to shut people up, imo
Yeh I got OTA last night around 11pm, so i thought finally it was a froyo, but then after, i realized it is still Eclair. But mine is Eclair.UVKA2, and 2.1-update1.
hmmm i wonder what it is though.
I'm running stock on my Vibrant and got the message about the KA2 update yesterday. It took about 5 minutes to download and install. Afterwards it was incredibly laggy: apps took forever to load and were slow once accessed, and couldn't get to the Market. Finally, an hour or so later and after 3 re-boots, the phone returned to normal behavior. Have yet to notice any features or performance differences, before vs. after.
So that's what that thing was. I'm running stock froyo.ka6, the device manager connected to server, thought I was getting an update but after 5 minutes it disappeared. My girlfriend's phone is eclair.ji6 and her device manager notification says there is an update pending, I told her to postpone it. She came over and it does indicate there is an update pending in the notification area but doesn't say which update. It would be nice if it would specify which update you were getting so you could decide if you want it or not. I'll update it tomorrow...
My wife got the update as well and I haven't noticed anything different at all. I rooted and flashed clockword after the OTA and there weren't any problems. Not sure what the hell the update was.

My Tab wouldn't take the update because it's Rooted. The Note 2 got an update pushed last week that the devs said to not accept since it contained a Bootloader. Hope this is not another attempt at locking the bootloader and root on the 7.7. I was able to freeze the app on my Note 2 to keep it from attempting to install again.
So what does this update do for me, really? Why do I care about how much power it consumes when its turned off ans charging? Does that mean shutdown & charging, or just screen-off & charging?

How/ what do I freeze to stop the annoying update notices? Also, has anyone **successfilly** tried OTA rootkeeper w/ this update?

Interested in what this update is really doing as well
I saw the news reports that an OTA update was coming that would help to make the battery life better on my i815 but like others here, I've not noticed the battery life to be that bad to begin with.
I don't have a problem with the idea of updating, though just to get to ICS, well, I wound up using electron73's instructions here as it seemed my poor i815 was one of the ones that was just never going to properly update OTA from HC to ICS
Perhaps it is another attempt at sending out small update before the big update?
Rooting stock IMM76D.LP11
My newly purchased tab came with this update already installed (build number IMM76D.LP11) from Verizon. Power consumption seems good though I also use Deep Sleep Battery Saver. Having a hell of a time rooting this thing though. ExynosAbuse initially worked well but then inexplicably lost root just today which I discovered on using TitaniumBakup. Anyone aware of a rooting tool for this build?? I can't breathe without root!

The update will not affect your battery life, for better or worse. It simply reduces the amount of power draw while charging. This helps avoid a trickle charge that constantly uses power from your outlet while the device is on the charger and at 100% charge.
Maybe it has to do with the charger getting hot.

[Q] New AT&T Update Ruined G2

I downloaded the G2 update yesterday from AT&T.
I'm not rooted, but this update is even worse than the one before. The battery life is completely ruined.
I noticed that usually my phone had 550MB of RAM left with the previous update. Now it's idling at around 450MB.
Not only that, just browsing on simple sites on Chrome will turn my phone warm to hot. The battery life percentage starts depleting rapidly. Roughly 1% for every 90 seconds or so. It's really frustrating since one of the selling points of the G2 was the battery life-- And every subsequent update has worsened the battery life while updating really little.
What can I do?

I was more wondering if I could revert to the stock 4.4.2 before this horrible update.
Bumping.
Hey bud. I don't exactly know how the AT&T version works, but if you follow the "Go back to stock"-guide and use a earlier kdz file, you SHOULD be able to get an earlier version of kitkat, maybe without knock code, but I don't really care about that personally.
I'm guessing that they want you to upgrade to a G3 so that they earn money.

Do NOT update to it. Literally the worst update. The RAM usage has kicked up by 100-200 MB.
It's still 4.4.2. It only updated a few, unnoticeable things.
I really want to revert to the previous KitKat version with Knock Code. I cannot deal with this update. My phone starts becoming warm after browsing for a few minutes using the Twitter or Facebook app. It is that bad.
Please, someone help me out here. I'm so frustrated with this update that I'm half-tempted to just use AT&T Next program to get the LG G3.
No luck. It upgraded me without even warning around 2 p.m. In the middle of the freaking day. That really makes me mad because what if I needed to get a phone call or my wife needed to get ahold of me or something? I don't think that this should be legal for carriers to do this.
In either case I'm also noticing heavier than normal battery drain with this update but I'm going to give it about a week to see if the battery settles back down before I revert back to 4.2.2.
If you're sure that you want to get rid of this update I think what you should be able to do is to revert to stock 4.2.2 and then let yourself upgrade until you get to the version right before this and freeze the software update app. Have you reverted to stock before? I did it once when I had to return the phone to AT&T because of a battery defect and it was pretty straightforward.

I have no idea on how to revert. I've never rooted my G2.
It's pretty straight forward. Here's the video I watched to do it: How to Unbrick or Restore the LG G2 ATT Version: http://youtu.be/kqw_LFuyHbE
Watch the whole thing and let me know what you think. It's pretty easy actually. All of the tools that he's using I got from this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
You have to scroll down halfway on the first post to see att applicable steps and materials.

Just for everyone's info, I downgraded to 4.4.2 D80020c and then manually updated to D80020u and froze the system update app as I don't like the most recent update (D80020y).
Let me know if you need help doing this.

[Q] What's the verdict on Lollipop for SM-G900W8?

I just received the OTA for Lollipop for my SM-G900W8, but I'm holding off on installing it. I've read some pretty negative feedback on it (e.g., Verizon), as well as from some Nexus 5 owners who say it's very unstable. If you are a running on a Canadian network, particularly Bell Mobility, your feedback is appreciated.
Also, did you have to clear the cache or do a reset?
Is there a way to delete a pending OTA update? I'm worried it will install next time I reboot the phone and I don't want that to happen until I'm ready.

+1 I'm with Rogers btw
I am also a Rogers customer...
I never received notice of the update and when trying through Kies, and checking update through the phone it showed my 4.4.2 as current. In speaking with Rogers on line and in store, they tell me that 5.0 was pulled by Samsung due to bugs, yet Samsung won't confirm, other than Norway. Have been trying to update to 5.0 or at least wait til 5.1 comes, but not sure how I get my phone to do this automatically, without having to flash the firmware. Phone is unlocked, but never rooted.
I tried stock Lollipop a couple days ago. I went back to KitKat a day later. I wasn't a fan of the way it handled sound with the whole interruption system and such. And I often turn off just notifications while leaving everything else on but it was overly complicated to do that with the stock 5.0 rom. I had a couple force closures on apps that were never a problem before and it was just, well, not as responsive. Although that might've needed to take some time? The pop-up notifications thing was annoying (blocked part of the app I was in some times) and the task switcher was slow and cumbersome compared to the fast list in KitKat.
My thoughts, anyway. I think I'll wait for Google to mess with stuff. I get the feeling that they upgraded with good intentions but got a bit too carried away with their ideas. However, I am just one person so, you know, others probably liked it a lot.
Thanks for the replies. I didn't hear anything bad specifically for this model do I decided to give it a try. Installation was clean. No glitches at all. I'll keep an eye on battery consumption and report back. First impression is that Google got carried away with themselves making gratuitous changes.

I've gotten the update on my Bell Galaxy S5. There seems to be two issues: 1) Battery life. I've been getting 2-3hrs SoT only, while I was getting much more than that before. 2) Sometimes the call audio drops. I can't hear the other person and they can't hear me, but if you call back it seems to work? It's really hit or miss. Currently investigating the battery problem but it seems to be some sort of wakelock caused by PowerManagerService.WakeLocks and PowerManagerService.Display. GSAM reports that Kernel is taking up 40% of the battery.
It's been over a week with lollipop. There was another update a couple days after I upgraded. There are a few things I don't like, but it seems to be working pretty well.

LG V20 H990DS Firmware Update V10b-Nov-25-2016

Hi,
i just received an OTA update:
V10b-Nov-25-2016
Changelog just stated that usability and functionality of the smartphone has been improved.
Has anybody else already received this? Did anybody notice changes?
Kind regards,
BrowsingMan
received, but nothing to report, works exactly as before
Just updated last night. Seems normal
Received it as well last night. There was a bit of instability for the first hour or so. Lagging etc and one automatic reboot, but I'm guessing that was just due to the OS system settling down.
This morning everything seems normal as before.
Any improvement in auto shots with the camera?

Same happened to me. I rebooted a few times which didn't fix it which got me worried, but by the morning it was fine.
I don't mean to derail the thread but is there any custom support for this phone model? I'm mainly only seeing support for the H918. I'd love to root once its available and safe but it seems like this is one of those odd models out that no one really cares about.

Can you guys check/time your fast charge using OEM cable and charger? It doesn't seem to work for me, ot at least not prior to the OTA update on every ocassion. I've had instability issues when the phone gets a little hot/warm, if left in direct sunlight for 15 minutes, etc. I'm going to thoroughly test this out before posting anjy reviews. So far, not impressed with the loudspeaker.
I also don't want to update the phone yet incase the "impending" root solution, if one comes about, happens to be software-version-specific, since we are dealing with a phone on a locked bootloader.

something i have noticed since the update is a huge improvement in reception... now almost all the time it's 4-5 bars for each sim, on lte and 3g, whereas before i used to pick up my phone and see only 1-2 bars... especially at home.
i must specify that i never had a problem calling or browsing even with 1-2 bars, never lost connection during a call, cristal clear voice. so maybe before it was simply showing less bars than it really was? anyway, just my feedback

Yep , received the update yesterday. No comment on the update work just like normal. ?
Hey guys.
I installed the LG PC Bridge and, among other things, I decided to check for a software update. It informed me one was available, which seemed odd, because I had checked yesterday O.T.A. and had found nothing.
Anyway, I disconnected the phone and checked again and true enough the 10b update was available (still found it weird that it said Nov. 25 though) at approx. 730MB, but I decided to reconnect and use Bridge to update.
I began the process and it said the download size was 2.9GB! That's a huge difference. O.T.A. still shows the update at 730MB. Does anyone know if there any differences??

i guess bridge is offering you the full package instead of the incremental update, but the outcome should be the same
Does anyone notice any difference?
Mine works great before and after update....
Everything looks really good...I think that the problem with keyboard is a little improved....I'm talking about next word suggestion...
Mine has just been updated to 10b as well. So far everything is working great but I've only just starting using the phone so I can't comment on what was fixed over the last release.
Phone is getting warm and battery drops quicker for me. Anyone has the same problem?
Also, please check your Data usage for Google Docs, Slides and Drive. i don't use it but it still has backgroud data running! Do u have same issue?
Just updated to v10d released December 26 Changelog says performance improvement and improvement to home. Screen but I haven't noticed any changed neither I'm speed nor in options
Did you receive the update via PC Bridge or OTA?
in SEA region, we're still stuck with V10c
I bought mine in Philippines, and since the middle of December (more or less) I am with the 10e version, and still trying to realize how many other versions LG needs to release for the phone have a good usability.
Same for the LG G5, that is in the first Nougat version and it's in the box (both).

i got it via OTA and i went straight from v10b to v10d i didnt receive any update for v10c
I received the OTA update V10F-IND-xx about a week ago. Talked about performance improvement. Post the update the battery performance has gone to hell. It would easily pump out about 6 hours SOT which has now dropped to about 4 hours. Also, have noticed slight to medium heating under the power key when using apps that access data over wifi.Unrooted. Anyone know if it's possible to roll back the update without rooting? OR any quick fix to this problem.
