So I woke up this morning with an OTA update pending. I updated thinking that tmo was finally pushing 2.2 over the air...
Well after the update, I am still on firmware 2.1-update1 but my baseband has been updated to KA2??
My kernel version is 2.6.29.
My build number is ECLAIR.UVKA6.
Why would they push this but no froyo?
The difference I have noticed is that my battery doesn't drain nearly as fast when my phone is on but not being used with the screen off (standby mode?).

If you were still on JI6, then you'd get this update. It's not Froyo.. Froyo was the KA6 update only available via Kies.
It has something to do with network compatibility, check the TMo forum.
So is Tmo ever going to release an OTA froyo? Or is the only source for froyo through kies?
That would be pretty weak if kies was the only source for update...
^I would say yes, because clearly they are still working on it since there are leaks post KA6. Hopefully it will be 2.2.1, they released KA6 to shut people up, imo
Yeh I got OTA last night around 11pm, so i thought finally it was a froyo, but then after, i realized it is still Eclair. But mine is Eclair.UVKA2, and 2.1-update1.
hmmm i wonder what it is though.
I'm running stock on my Vibrant and got the message about the KA2 update yesterday. It took about 5 minutes to download and install. Afterwards it was incredibly laggy: apps took forever to load and were slow once accessed, and couldn't get to the Market. Finally, an hour or so later and after 3 re-boots, the phone returned to normal behavior. Have yet to notice any features or performance differences, before vs. after.
So that's what that thing was. I'm running stock froyo.ka6, the device manager connected to server, thought I was getting an update but after 5 minutes it disappeared. My girlfriend's phone is eclair.ji6 and her device manager notification says there is an update pending, I told her to postpone it. She came over and it does indicate there is an update pending in the notification area but doesn't say which update. It would be nice if it would specify which update you were getting so you could decide if you want it or not. I'll update it tomorrow...
My wife got the update as well and I haven't noticed anything different at all. I rooted and flashed clockword after the OTA and there weren't any problems. Not sure what the hell the update was.

Two weeks ago i received the ji6 update
last night, my phone received a firmware update
i thought it was the froyo update
i installed the new firmware
once i installed it, i noticed i was missing features
i no longer had the task manager or media Hub
i checked my phone's info and the firmware update actually brought me back to 2.1 update1
Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Both the original JFD and the OTA JI6 (as well as all the intermediary leaked firmwares) are 2.1 update1. 2.1 update1 denotes the current revision of Eclair itself, while JFD and JI6 denote revisions of Samsung's verion of 2.1 update1.
So take a peek again and see which version of Samsung's baseband is installed.
it says T959UVJFD
To see your baseband and firmware versions, make sure to use Settings/About Phone..
Seems like we're serving as test beds for the Sammy dev's, maybe not such a bad thing. The j16 update fixed my hardware locked phone. I'm hoping they resolve the battery draining issues before, or with 2.2.

Well, it's safe to say for whatever reason your back on the stock firmware the phone shipped with...
Happened to me as well, its because JI6 was pulled for being "not so great" (it was bricking too many phones)
I know this isn't a Cliq forum but my wife is getting an operating system update on her Cliq right now - I wonder if she is beating me to Froyo??!
Edit: I suppose she is actually getting eclair.
This may be a dumb question but: should I be worried that this hasn't happened to me as of yet?
A buddy of mine has had three updates on his. Weird.

Do you have any actual evidence to support the claim that JI6 was "pulled" (I assume you mean by TMO/Samsung)?
JI6 was never pulled and it is actually a great update. Sped the phone up a bit, added some new things, and made the GPS decent. Besides the bricking (which was probably user error) no problems.

Have to disagree with the "great update" part. lol
But as far as the update being pulled, with no word from T-Mo of it being pulled I called BS. Furthermore, why would they push an update to phones and revert them back to JFD? Doesn't make sense.
Same thing happened to me this AM. I recieved an exchange unit yesterday, because after the JI6 update, the GPS still would fluctuate all over the map which was especially frustrating when navigating because the app would continuously reroute you. Received the exchange unit, got it set up the way my old phone was, and made sure to check the baseband version. It had JI6. Woke up this morning with an icon similar to the missed call icon, clicked on it, and it said there was a new update from TMobile. Performed update which took about 10 minutes, then checked to see what was different. Checked the basband version and it is now T959UVJFD. Checked GPS with GPS status, and I have strong signal from 13 satelites, but only locked on to 2 with 143 ft accuracy... Last night before the update had accuracy to 12 ft. WTF!

Have you contacted TMO support? If not, why not?
Love to hear what they have to say.
I got an OTA last night and now I am running Windows Phone 7, some weird stuff happening here 0.o
Possible Theory
While I haven't received either the official OTA, nor the mysterious overnight one, I have a question. Is it possible that the overnight push to revert is an attempt at scrubbing the unofficial JI6 updates from the phone only to install the actual official one? So if we chose to update through Kies originally when it was leaked or some other method, could the be T-mobiles way of resetting and executing?

I was kind of thinking the same thing. Is this T-mobiles attempt to flush out the bad update? But why waste the resources to push out a revert "update" to phones? Who knows, it's some kind of consipiracy.

A poster on another forum claims the same reversion OTA just happened on his phone, and it wasn't even rooted, which wouldn't fit your theory. Although just getting all the relevant facts in these situations is often the biggest obstacle.
Maybe they need to roll us back in preparation for Froyo?
I know, I know, it makes no sense, but none of this makes sense.

Yes, I contacted them. They gave me some BS reason that I was reverted, and told me that they would put me on a list to get the JI6 update, and that it would take 2-3 days, so who knows....
I just bought mytouch i been using it for 6 hours. I know there has been ota update for it. How long did it take for you to get the update?i see there is no option to "check for update"
I've had mine for 9 days and still don't have the update. Is there a manual update?
Sorry guys, I got mine right after turning it on, I assume we mean 2.2.1?

i dont think there is manual update you should call tmoibile because you are suppose to get update in 48hrs
It is usually to the IMEI number not being updated in their system. So call the customer service and make sure they have the right IMEI for your new phone. Once they change it make a couple of calls and you should get it within 4-8 hours.
Well, I did an online chat with TMO and asked when I would get the update. They told me I would get it by the 15th. 10 minutes later I got the update. YAY!!
Please post questions in Q&A section.
I got mine 24 hours after I called support.
I waited almost 14 days with no updates. I had to exchange the phone because of something unrelated and my new phone got the update in less than 15 minutes after I inserted the sim and made a call.
I had my phone for over a week with no update. My t-Mo profile still showed my MT3G 1.2. I changed the phone on my profile to the MT4G, made calls that evening and the next morning, the update notification was present. Coincidence? Do not know but received the update.
MT4G rocks!!
Had my phone for about a month now, phone is correct on my plan and the IMEI is correct but I still haven't received the update.
got my update within 2 hours after i bought the phone.
I was literally pulling out of the T-Mo parking lot on the day of purchase (1st. day of release) and got the update notification.
I was just about in disbelief!
Im confused about the update my phone came in the mail today its already running 2.2.1. Do was that the update out is the update some thing else.I've had the phone on for six hours and haven't received any updates any ideas?

Seriously? All you needed to do was look one post up and you would see that 2.2.1 was the update. A lot of phones only shipped with 2.2 on release day. So 2.2.1 IS the update.
I waited 2 weeks, became inpatient and forced the upgrade. My first android....so that process was perfect to help me understand framework, ADB and file structure.

They can't even do it ota? They held the update for so long then say they are going to update but they make it as hard as they can. This doesn't surprise me.
There is obviously a problem updating OTA. Rather they release it this way as soon as they can and then OTA when they are sure its stable.
It's not even 2.2.1.
My coworker just updated and he only received 2.2. I would have figured they could have figured out that minor build for this.
hahahahahaha, figures they wouldn't give 2.2.1.
And after a little browsing of the captivate forum it looks like they are having a lot of problems with both kies and the froyo update.

Lol, so basically it breaks down like this:
-Tmobile received a ton of bad press over entire delay of Froyo.
-They cave and release the update that Samsung had given them MONTHS ago but they didn't release because of z4root and they only release it through kies so that enthusiasts will STFU while a majority will not receive the easily rootable update.
-They announce that there will be a mandatory OTA update later, which will obviously be 2.2.1, updating everyone to the z4root proof Froyo.
I have quickly had a look round but did not see any other threads relating to this. Last night my UK Carphone Warehouse Xoom said it had and update available and pointed me to http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles/Support/GB-EN/TABLETS/MZ601/Xoom3G_MR1_UK_Release_Notes_UK.htm for more information. I installed this and got a pop up when it rebooted saying it was successful. However nothing has appears to have changed, I am still on 3.0.1 and when I go to check for new updates again it says my device is up to date. I was wondering if anyone else had any more luck or know how to force the Xoom to try the install again. I would take it into a Carphone Warehouse store to ask but they appear to be all on fire.
*Update*
The xoom downloaded a second update around lunch time today and I'm now running 3.1
I got the same update this morning, I suspect it was a small preparation update, and 3.1 should be right around the corner
Pretty sure I'm downloading the 3.1 update now. It matches the update code in the guide you linked.
Recharge the battery above 50% then will begin the second phase of the installation.

Hi all,
Last night got the smaller update first and then after a reboot was advised to have a charging or fully charged battery and to proceed with the 2nd update over WiFi which i did. All went well all my apps and settings where still intact and i now have a working SD card otherwise haven't really noticed any differences as using ADW EX mine was already smooth and fast but i have no issues caused by this update. I have a UK Xoom from CPW runnning on a Talkmobile Sim.

Personally, until someone who has gone through the OTA install and played with the UK 3.1, I'm not touching this with a barge pole. Hammerhead 2.1 is fantastic and we need to find if there are any advantages to backtracking to 3.1 in my opinion. The hassle of relocking and unrooting is too much without knowing the benefits.
So i recieved a notifaction today that my samsung epic was eligable for the gingerbread 2.3 update. Knowing not to get my hopes up, I followed the instructions to update, but my phone kept telling me my current andriod version was up to date.
I called sprint technical support which was the biggest waste of two hours of my life. They ended up screwing up my phone, which I had to manually get working again.
I finally called my local sprint store to see what was going on, and he told me that spring PULLED the samsung epic 2.3 update because many clients were reporting problems with their phones. He told me it would become available again in the next 3-4 weeks. I have no idea how he would know this information, but im leaning towards speculation. 3-4 weeks is 6-8 months in sprint langunage. He said his is working completely fine, and he would be fine with me to come down and he will manually put it on my phone for me, but warned if my phone bricked, it would be stuck that way (aka i would have to use odin to send it back to stock).
I manually put the E122 version on my phone and so far have ZERO problems. Is anyone else aware of sprint jumping the gun on this one and pulling this update?
I've had the Epic since day 1.
They have pulled EVERY-SINGLE-UPDATE in the history of Epic updates.
It's almost laughable. I can't wait to get a sprint phone that sprint and samsung dont mess with (nexus prime, etc)
I have the correct version right? EI22 is the latest and greatest?
What happens if sprint releases a newer update, will I have to manually remove this one and go back to froyo eco5, or will my phone update ok?
can you point me in the direction of the way you updated this with zero problems? thanks

Im not sure if your being sarcastic, but I will point you anyways.
Before anything, make sure you have FROYO ECO5 Installed, and nothing else.
1.)go to ww.gottabemobile.com/2011/11/09/samsung-epic-4g-gingerbread-update-rolling-out-can-be-manually-installed
2.)rename the zip file they have for you download to update (NOT UPDATE.ZIP, just UPDATE)
3.)put the file on your SD card
4.)start phone in boot mode
5.)update.zip will appear on the boot screen, select it.
your phone will update automatically.
Since it was an official release, EI22 should upgrade to the "GB fixed" version for the Epic, even if OTA is stopped. A quick google search doesn't confirm that the update was stopped. Not saying you're wrong, but could be misinformed.

I agree. I mean it made sense and all, considering i was unable to update via OTA and my phone said my andriod version was currently up to date.
I guess only a certain percentage of users are getting it at the moment? I dont know, I have it now and thats all that matters.
Only complaint I have is their new system they use to kill aps. I loved the fact I didnt need advanced APP killer with my epic, but this new interface is really confusing me.

My wife's stock epic had the same update notification and the same everything is up to date. So I talked to a friend who works at a sprint store and he explained the whole market queue thing for the update (unnecessarily I might add).
He then called support and talked to one of his buddies there who told him that they are getting slammed with calls about this and that they can't do a thing about it if the person isn't up in the queue.
Hell of a way to push an update.
go figure sprints always tryin to screw everyone they can. good thing we have devs and root to make them acutally work faster and better!

Sprint stated it would be completed over 8 days to ensure it goes smoothly. which means the 17th is the last day. Also it is not listed as suspended on their site. EB13 was immediately listed as suspended when they pulled it.
Sprint zone just sent me an update stating that gingerbread was available. I don't think they've pulled it. But hey its sprint so who the he'll knows! They'll probably wait until they push it to everyone and then pull it ;-)

Yeah, that "your update is ready" message from Sprint is automated and isn't related to your spot in the queue. The same thing happend to me (I got the message days before the OTA was pushed to me) when Froyo got released. I can't tell you how many days before, I waited a day and a half and just did it manually.
yeah, that notification has no bearing on when you get the update. i got notified on my phone about the update hours after i already did the manual upgrade.
