Hi.
I suspect that my Nexus 4 micro USB port is broken. My PC will not recognise it any more although the USB cable will still charge. It does not make any sound when connecting to my W7 computer and it does not show in the device manager. I have enabled and disabled USB debugging and MTP multiple times and it does not make a difference. I have tried in 2 different laptops with the same result. I unrooted my phone to upgrade my android version to the latest and after doing that I am not able to root it again because my USB connection is broken.
I was wondering if there is anyway to root my phone without a cable (some autoroot application which will run automatically after restarting the phone???).
Any ideas would be welcome.
Thanks!
Look at towelroot.com. it works on the n5. But be very aware that without usb if it doesn't work for you you may totally Bork your phone.
My recommendation is not to root without a working usb port.

If you have a custom recovery you can root just by flashing the latest superSU zip file.

FWIW, Towelroot worked on my Nexus 4 running stock 4.4.3 just yesterday.

I have a problem with my Nexus 4...
When I first got it, it would connect to my computer and I could choose if I wanted MTP or the other one.
I rooted it at my friends house, unlocked the bootloader, but never flashed anything else on it, it was just rooted with unlocked bootloader. Just recently, maybe 3 days ago, when I plug in my Nexus into any computer, I mean any, Mac, Linux, and Windows... My phone doesn't recognize it and it just charges... USB Debuggig is enabled, I tried disabling it and it does the exact same thing.... Anyone have any ideas? I no longer have root because of the 4.2.1 update that wiped it... :/
Factory reset might eliminate the problem, Also when you connect the nexus 4 to your pc it should automatically install the drivers, but it might've bugged out. So my suggestion is you reinstall them. Here, I am making it easier for you:
http://theandroidrom.com/download-lg-nexus-4-usb-driver-for-windows/
Hope that helps!
I've tried factory reset. My phone doesn't give me any options when I connect to any computer. Just sits there charging from the computer. I'll try again with new drivers, but windows doesn't recognize it needing any.. :/ I'm gonna go into t mo and see if they can replace it.

Its not the drivers.. I'm gonna try and take it to T-Mobile.. Sucks though cuz I still have superuser app on my phone and can't remove it.

I have a hardware problem on my rooted N7 and my PC won't recognize it. I have tried multiple PC's and multiple cables and it worked fine in the past so I have the correct drivers installed. I called Google (purchased from Playstore) and they said they can only troubleshoot and repair it if it is stock and unrooted.
Any way to return to stock without a PC?
Need a few more specifics. Are you running a custom ROM or are you just rooted on a stock ROM? Have you tried to use a toolkit to restore? I have seen some be able to connect with ADB but not in the OS. Also, check your device manager when you connect it. You may have ADB drivers instead of the actual drivers that you need. Try unintelligible all drivers related to your device.

I tried to install a new font with Font Installer, as it had worked in the past, but my phone then got stuck in a boot loop. I had already gotten rid of my backup after I found out that PA wasn't going to be updated until 4.4, so I thought there was no need for a Nandroid until then. I do not seem to have any PA ROM .zip's on my phone anymore.
A couple weeks ago, my usb port stopped working and everytime I try to plug something into the port, it begin to heat up and there is a burning smell. So I cannot transfer anything through usb.
So I made a factory reset and then wiped the system and now when I try to reboot, TWRP says "No OS Installed." When I proceed and the phone reboots, I am stuck on the screen with "Google."
Is there any way I can fix this?

First of all it is a good lesson why you always have to keep a nandroid backup.
Ia the USB on your PC is the problem? Can't you go to other PC and transfer a zip to your nexus?
I guess that USB is the only way.. You obviously can't use WiFi or bluetooth. Find a PC and do it.
Good luck.

You're right about that.
No, the usb on my N4 is the problem. Plugging any usb cable into the port doesn't work. No computer can recognize the device and the device is unable to charge through usb either.
I'm very sorry and it's painful to say but I can't think of any solution.. Maybe only to fix your USB port..

Just got my phone today and for some reason cannot install the drivers in order to root my phone. I've enabled developer mode also and usb debugging is also not recognized oh the device as showing up on screen although its checked as active. Could my drivers for the nexus 5, nexus 7 our old nook he be coming into conflict with the drivers from this device somehow? I've routed several phones and this is strange and unusual behavior to me. Any help would be appreciated.

It would help to know morea about what OS your using to root it. What have you tried so far? What cable are you using? Have you tried it on more then one machine? There is pertinent information missing that makes it hard to help. The old drivers might be causing a confict but I doubt it. However, if you think they are just uninstall them.

Well, you can theoretically take the stock ROM and stock recovery and flash them, and then use bootunlocker to lock your bootloader, and then removing root from within the root app.
U could do that but it still leave the same problem with the USB not able to connect to the device

Well yeah, for that you need some hardware fixing. Go to a service? Or is the phone still in warranty?
Yea It's out of warranty

same problem
Can't connect to pc for adb & file transfers etc, thought it was a faulty usb connector.
Replaced usb port-microphone part, but problem still persists.
Tried everything, factory reset, flash stock zip, different cables, different computers, re installed drivers & 1000 reboots.
Just keep getting the same result, USB device not recognized. code 43.
I did replace the battery not long ago, but put the old one back in and it still does the same thing.
What could the problem be? If i can replace something, what would that be? :silly:
