[Q] Odin possible for non-dev devices? - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since I'm rooted now, I'm also worried now (about bricking the phone). Is there an odin option for us? I see one for the dev edition but not for the non-dev. Thanks in advance!

I downloaded the stock firmware for my Verizon GS5 and used Odin to flash it back to stock last night. Then I loaded my apps and backups and then rooted.

Yeah, I'm sure flashing a stock ROM would work fine. It's unlocking the bootloader and being able to flash custom/AOSP roms that I'm looking forward to. :silly:

Here is the link I used to download the file. I had to sign up for an account on the site, but I was assured the site was legit and the file did work to Odin my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 back to stock.

BTW, this is only for the Verizon non-dev Samsung Galaxy S5 phone.

Galaxy S2 2.3.4 firmware

What is the easiest way to install 2.3.4 version or newer to my Galaxy S2 4G current is 2.3.3. I will be using it in Canada.. Thanks
Official way: Check if KIES is offering you a firmware
Unofficial way: You can download the firmware from the Dev section Stock or Custom and then flash it using Odin
Stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Also explains how to flash. Please read how to flash and DO SELECT only what is given. Selecing PIT in ODIN leads to BRICK and unusable
Thanks for the info!!! If I do update it will put everything to normal right and it will unroot the phone?

Don't understand the 'put everything to normal' part but after flashing any ROM you will lose root. Need to re root.
Regards.

Thats fine no too worry about root normal i meant everything will go back to stock or factory state condition. That triangle will go away too right after flashing the rom? thanks for your quick response
If you use one of the stock roms there is no yellow triangle. You wont see carrier animation on boot, but that is a good thing in my opinion. It's as if you bought an unlocked phone not tied to a network.

I wonder if this court injunction by apple will slow the rollout of v2.3.4 to the rest of Europe, I hope not i am sick of waiting as it is.
So just odin right? Not sure which stock rom I can use with it been searching around here and seen so many of them.

[Q] Galaxy S4 Rooting Question

I managed to root my AT&T S4 successfully which is half the battle. I haven't flashed on this device yet but did a few times on my older Droid X. I am thinking of flashing GOOGLE EDITION 4.4.4 that I found on this site under ROMS. Is there like an easy process to flash roms?
Thanks
You need to tell us what firmware version you're on. Different versions have different methods to flash roms.

[Q] Which bootloader do I have?

Is there any easy way to tell without being able to boot fully? There isn't anything immediately obvious on google. I'm trying to help out a friend, his phone doesn't get past the boot animation anymore and he doesn't know which version he has. I can boot into download/recovery modes but don't see anything that screams MF3, MK2 or any of the others.
Updates: I can get to sideload but don't know if I can install any Roms through sideload without a custom recovery. The recovery right now is stock 3e I think.

Can't do anything from there. If recovery doesn't say NB1 in the corner then it's something before that. Only other way is to just try and flash only part of each one through Odin.

He was rooted at one point and then unrooted. Never any custom roms/recoveries. The phone was working after he unrooted it but for some reason will no longer pass the boot animation.
He was on android 4.3 so does that only correspond to MK2? As far as I can tell it does.

Do you know if he took any ota updates? My opinion is you should just flash the nb1 tar file in Odin. It's doesn't sound like he is still on mdl firmware.Which would be the only reason he'd not want to go to nb1

If he's not on mdl you're not going to get cm or any aosp rom. Nb1 is no more restrictive than mf3, or mk2. In any case you'll have to use safestrap and only touch wiz based roms.

[Q] 4.3 MJ6 brick problem.

Okay so here is my problem:
-Bought AT&T phone off ebay Hong Kong. Using phone in Australia.
-SGH-I337
-4.3 MJ6
-Rooted it.
-Installed Safestrap.
-Backed up with Safestrap.
-Flashed GOLDENEYE v49.1
-*BRICKED*
-Safestrap recovery is GONE
-Stock recovery and download modes BOTH still work. When booted, the phone gets stuck on the Samsung logo/pulsating blue LED.
I've spent around 5 hours reading everything I can, but can't seem to find much regarding 4.3 MJ6.
Do I need to flash a 100% stock 4.3 MJ6 ROM to get up and running again? Does anybody know where I can find that ROM?
I've been using custom ROMs on HTCs for a couple of years, this is my first Samsung.
Thanks in advance.

It's definitely MJ6, it seems to be an uncommon one which is a pita to work with.

Ok, here's what I'd do, flash the nb1 tar file in Odin. It should get your device up and running again. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50912149. You'll have to re-setup everything again afterwards so backup first.

[Q] Couple of Queries, plz help

I have acquired an S4 i337 from At&t, it's on the MF3 4.2.2, i have used towel root to root it and installed safestrap as well...
i wanted to upgrade to 4.4, should i just odin the firmware onto it by putting it into download mode? which 4.4 is best for it in terms of stability and stuff...? i think only stock touchwiz is recommended since i don't know whether it's bootloader is locked or not...
second
can i root the 4.4 through towel root easily or is there a problem with it... which in your opinion is the best for the i337? I won't be able to downgrade again yeah?
I would flash the nb1 tar file in Odin and then go from there. You can root everything including oc3. Read through this and you'll find ask your answers, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53758227

thank you for replying, that's very helpful. Also if i may, i need to flash 4.3 before 4.4 or just go directly towards 4.4?

it's just downloading the firmware (NB1) then putting the phone into download mode, start Odin and wait for the phone to reboot? that's it?

Yes it's as simple as that. Put the tar in PDA or AP slot depending on what version of Odin you're using. Only have f.reset and auto reboot checked.

Yes you can with Odin, but do your know the bootloader version of 4.2.2 you're on? If you're on mdb or mdl you probably don't want to update. On 4.2.2 you can use twrp or cwm custom recoveries and flash any roms your want. Once you're on 4.4.4 you'll be limited.
