Hello everyone, I am trying to update my rooted vzw note 3 to 4.4 using heimdall frontend. I have everything installed and am a usual linux user but just need some assistance with heimdall. A quick 10 step tut or some pics or something would help tremendously. I have my files ready and have gotten as far as rebooting the phone into download mode but in heimdall i dont know how to load the firmware for the phone. I'm used to using odin but I understand from reading around the web that odin doesnt work in vmware so that's why I am using heimdall. Any help is appreciated.
Solved..Will write a tutorial in a couple days for anyone else needing assistance.

Long story short, I was running Axura2.04, and I discovered I wasn't getting voice mail notification so I went to restore the phone to a backup rom I had made of the stock version using Clockwork Premium, and after it finished installing it got stuck on the Vibrant/Samsung screen.
I was unable to boot to recovery, and I now have the phone connected to my computer via USB and I got it into what appears to be download mode (there's a yellow triangle with a droid shoveling dirt) and I'm stuck.
I am on a mac and do not have access to a PC. Any advice on how to proceed?
(ps i am relatively new to all of this, I've only been at it for a a few weeks)
Thanks
If I'm screwed someone just tell me and I'll make a trip to the t-mobile store and bite the bullet.
Sounds like you need a kernel flash for a 2.1 Rom... try using odin if you can.

You're not screwed, but only providing you can either gain access to Windows somehow (for an Odin3 reflash) or are comfortable with using a command line tool similar to Odin3 that is available for the Mac, Heimdall.. Heimdall has no GUI..
Heimdall is available here..
http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/
The XDA thread on it is available here..

General instructions for flashing firmware via Odin3 can be found in various links that link from the Vibrant Bible thread at the top of the dev section.
Best of luck
Isn't there a PC emulater that you can get on your Mac? If you can get that then get Odin and the right files and flash back to stock. Do a search around here for Odin.

Thanks for help guys, I'm meeting up with a friend tonight who has the software for a PC emulator so I'm going to try running Odin from there
I'll keep you posted
Get heimdall, it works on mac

I worked with Thegreat520 and we got the phone up and running again using the methods outlined in the stickie above. I tried using Heimdall, but that's too far beyond me, I can't code to save my life, took college courses for it and even that couldn't save me.
That said we did find out that using a virtual machine on a mac doesn't work, it has something to do with how the computer recognizes the device, and there is another thread here somewhere in which someone else ran into the same problem.
Thanks for not flaming me guys, the ultimate mistake happened because I was restoring a backup of a ROM and didn't clear the cache or the user data before hand. Lesson learned the hardway.
I already rooted my GSGII and then decided to unroot it.Did everything with more parts file.WAs using it unrooted and now i want to root it again. But in meantime i reinstalled windows Was using Win 7 x86 and switched to Win 7 x64.(was lazy to install it before).Did every single thing i did before(I even saved all files on my outer HDD before reinstalling windows) and S2 Root won't recognize my phone.Kies recognize it without problem same with Odin when it is in download mode.Yes i have insecure kernel/usb debugging.
Thanks.
Well if Odin is recognising your phone just root with Odin.
I would recommended cf-root if you want to keep it close to the stock kernal.
You can find the cf-root thread in development or just Google it for s2 and pick the correct one for your firmware.
Put your phone in download mode, put cf-root in PDA and do nothing else then flash. Will be done in seconds.

Yes, use CF-Root, it's one step only (so, less chance to screw up something):
[19.10.2011][CF-Root 4.4] KE*, KF*, KG1/2/3/5/6/7, KH1/3/4, KI2/3/4/8 - su+bb+CWM4
Read carefully the very easy instructions, be sure Kies is NOT running while you are using Odin (kies hate odin)
ok I have been searching im lost in a sea of forum topics that dont seem to either work or relate to my GTAB . I have an original Verizon 3g 7inch Galaxy tab I would like to try a rom on it but it seems that my root method no longer works. but i cant seem to weed through the forums to find info on rooting it since its running the updated gb 2.3.6 is there a post out there in this vast sea of a forum that can help me ???? anybody ????
I wanna root so i can load cwm and install AOKP rom
I answered this question earlyer toady. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24634979&postcount=2
Thank you but i still am having issues with cwm installing.
Can someone please explain to me this problem and how i can fix it ?

First you need to do some recommended reading to understand how this awkward system of flashing from heimdall and the various recoveries.
This explains what can happen to your tab should you mess up.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133590
This explains how to revive your tab from that mess if it is possible. Also shows you how heimdall works.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=967175
Finally, this shows you how ClockworkMod Recovery works. To get to CWM Recovery on the galaxy tab hold volume up and the power button.
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...-and-how-to-use-it-on-android-complete-guide/
This should give you an idea of what can go wrong and how to fix it. Read carefully because you can disable your device to a point where you can't fix it and will have to send it to somebody who can.
Now there are two ways you can proceed from where you are at:
Flash a rom that doesn't have assert problems in the version of ClockworkMod Recovery that you have installed.
or
Directly flash a recovery and kernel from heimdall.
The easier and safer route is to just flash one of the roms that can be flashed from your CWM Recovery. This one will give you a working MIUI rom and CWM Recovery 5. Just follow the instructions from the CWM Recovery tutorial I posted and the instructions from this link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1365089
The second route will give you experience on heimdall. Recoveries can be flashed using a recovery.bin and a ZImage file in heimdall. This will let you put CWM Recovery 5 on your tab no matter what rom is installed on it. Unfortunately the zImage kernel is not compatible with the stock rom so once you install this you will only be able to start the device into CWM Recovery.
http://cl.ly/AGBB - CWM Recovery 5 recovery.bin & zImage
To install fire up heimdall after reviewing the directions from the return to stock/heimdall tutorial and put recovery.bin in the recovery slot and zImage in the kernel slot.
Ok update thanks for helping everybody i have aokp working now but it doesnt seem to have any hardware accelaration its running slower than dirt

have you read this post in the dev sticky section yet?

If it truly is hard bricked, I've had Josh resurrect my Samsung captivate using the jtag service. And Adam offers his own unbrick service. Both are excellent. Good luck!

May be a downgrade or upgrade is required for it to work perfectly...
I got mobile tech videos to help me out got their unbrickable mod and jtag. Got it back today and loaded cyanagonmod 9 nightly loaded on it now working great. Still got to play around with it some more its all different.just glad I was able to resurrect its like a new tablet now.

Hello people, before I begin I'd like to say I'm a fool so forgive me if I have trouble answering any questions that may seem trivial to you phone guys.
Anyway, a while back I rooted my device through some neat website with a lambda symbol, and was enjoying the pleasantries of root access. Well one day I turn on my phone and am greeted with "System software not authorized by AT&T has been found on your phone". I would prefer to just revert back to stock and not bother with rooting again.
As a side note, I was on kitkat 4.4.2
Now, from my preliminary research I've gathered I'll need some samsung usb drivers, Odin, and the stock rom for my device (at&t sgh-i337).
From what I can tell, I downloaded/installed the correct drivers
I downloaded Odin v3.07
The stock rom I am downloading is "I337UCUAMDL_I337ATTAMDL_ATT.zip" I am also downloading "I337UCUFNB1_Rootable_Full_Odin.rar".
Is this all I will need?
While the roms were downloading, I tried to connect my phone to Odin (in download mode, running Odin as admin) yet I didn't see anything like COM:6. Would this mean a mistake in the drivers I downloaded?
I'm a noobie at all of this, so before I mess my phone up even more, does this sound correct? I'll try to answer any questions people have. I hope I haven't somehow doomed this phone
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks
I never used odin so can't help on specifics. But, I think you need the NB1 tar. You can't Odin back MDL at all--don't try it--
I believe process is, if wanted, would be Odin the NB1 tar, update to NC1, root with towelroot, then use SafeStrap 3.09 I believe.
You can find all that on several SafeStrap threads in General and Q&A and a thread in General Titled "All things MK2 etc--
Do some reading up before proceeding--:good:
What is your exact build, for future reference don't use anything outside of XDA until you are very experienced.
Someone will help on Odin steps--:good:
Hi all.
For the first time in many years of rooting and modifying android devices I seem to of hit a brick wall with this device.
My laptop is running Ubuntu 14.04 and my plan was to root the device using JOdin3, however there is an issue with it and newer Samsung devices as its unable to retrieve the .pit file. I've done some searching and there doesn't seem to be an easy solution.
Someone has suggested running windows 7 in virtual box and using odin, however I have a very slow internet connection and i currently have a 3 hour wait for windows to download, also some people have reported that it doesn't always work.
Have any other Linux users had any luck rooting the Note 4?
Edit 03/03/2015
What an absolute farce, finally managed to get recovery installed using Windows XP in Virtual Box and Odin v3.04.
Can't believe its taken me 24 hours to root this ****ing thing!
I've tried with Heimdall and had the same problem, couldn't generate a PIT file. I had an old Win7 laptop laying around so used that and Odin instead, no problems.
I think I'll just end up going to my mum's and using her Win7 laptop.
I can't believe that such a popular device has no method for rooting on Linux. I've had this phone for 9 hours and I think it's the longest I've used an unrooted device for
Finally got it done, I've put a brief explanation of how I did it in the OP but if anyone wants further info please PM me.
