Screen turns on by itself - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay, so today, I swam with my phone, only up to 2 feet max. Also, it was only for about 5 minutes or less. After that, my screen turns on by itself even after I press the lock button. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Oh man. You really should not be swimming with the phone...
Anyway, make sure you have air wake off, that could be the issue. Otherwise I would remove battery and let it dry out for a while.

My friend took his G1 in the hot tub......
Dried it up then turned it on. Once it turned on a hazard triangle came up with a phone image then shut off. The phone is totally dry now but will not power on in any way?
Any ideas??

Try the procedure I discuss here.
Also, the triangle screen is recovery screen. Press Alt+L to see the text. If you can boot it up into the recovery it's probably not completely fried.
i did something similar but i think your problem is that you turned it on... maybe should just wait a few more days because mine took over a week to dry out fully.
and that screen you see might not necessarily mean its done.
I had a ton of errors and problems when i turned mine on too early. Keyboard would spew random numbers and letters and phone would turn off.
check the thread in my sig and you might find something useful
My G1 fall into the water too, I try to quickly pick it up.
After trying to dry it for like 1 hour I turned it on and was working but the backlight of the screen didn't turn on.
At that time couldn’t find replacement LCD when I try to Google it so after I disassemble it I save the pieces for the future.
My question is if the backlight can be fixed or do I have to replace the whole LCD?
Regards,
so you need to let it completely dry out first then when you can get it to power up you need to boot an update to the phone and hopefully itll work...hope this helps just try a standard rc33 update
Gave up on trying to fix it took it to where i bought it, There is a bit on the battery and on the phone when water damaged turns red. HTC wont fix it had to claim on the insurance lol

I fixed this issue for a customer today. I took the phone apart down to the LCD. Completely remove LCD from the phone. Take off the grey tape covering the back to reveal the backlight plug and etc. Unplug the backlight. get a tooth bruch and some alcohol and scrub the hell out of this whole area. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes to dry. reassemle the phone and if she works. Worked for me today so it may work for you.

Pulled battery, phone won't turn on

Any body have this issue. When ever the phone is on and I need to pull the battery for whatever reason, it will not turn on when I put the battery back in.
If I wait and turn off the phone before taking out the battery it is fine though.
How I get it back on is a problem itself. It would take me upwards of 20 min of just pressing the power button x amount of time, removing the battery and charging it.
This isn't even happening when I am out of battery. I would have 90% left
Also sometime it looks like it tries to turn on, display the black screen with HTC logo and displays the radio... then it just keeps on rebooting itself. Never actually fully booting.

sounds like you are abusing your phone. dont mash buttons that many times, you are hurting it.
take the battery out, hold the power key for 10 seconds, let go. then put battery in, and press power key once.
if this doesnt work, get an iphone
I've read a few posts similar to this.
Solution: Once battery is out, leave out for 15-30 mins, reinstall battery WITHOUT turning device on, plug in power supply, wait an additional 5-10 mins before turning back on. Works for others.
OK will try this. Is there a reason why this always happend when I pull the battery though?
Also, check your pins. One of them may be bent.

Ok this way seem to work. Thanks
There wasn't any bent pins on it though. I thought that this was just one of the flaws of running Android on the HD2.
Because I never had an issue with pulling the battery and it not powering on while it was on the stock WIMO
thanks guys! it worked.
why do people continue to pull the battery? i think i've ever only pulled the battery once in the 3 months i've been flashing roms and testing builds. reset buttons always works for me. don't want to get them pins bent!

Phone shut down then wouldn't power back up until plugged

Hey guys,
I have had this particular device for about a week... it is a replacement as my last one had a faulty cellular radio. So this is still under free replacement warranty - but I hope it doesn't need it.
Anyway, I was at the pool hall today, and the phone was working ok then one time I pulled it out of my pocket and it was dead... home button did nothing and the power button did nothing. But it had plenty of battery life left (60ish %).
About 10 minutes later I plugged it into the charger and after about 45 seconds it showed the battery charging and all was good. What could have happened?
I keep it in a case (TPU case) so I was guessing overheating but I wasn't really even using it. So I don't see how it could have been that hot.
Edit: also, when hitting the power button it doesn't go from full brightness to screen off and vice versa.... it has like a middle step of going dim first. Then off or on, my last device didn't do this... is it common?
Needless to say I am a little concerned.
Cheers!

Hope after accidental submersion.

Hi all, just thought I'd share with you my my recent good luck. After swimming in a pool for about ten minutes whilst on holiday, I suddenly remembered my razr i was still in my pocket. When I realised and pulled it out it had gone off. After trying without success to turn it back on I thought that was the end of the phone. When I returned home 4 days later, I thought I would try again. It still wouldn't turn on but I decided to see what would happen if I put it on charge. The green led flickered for a few seconds and then the battery icon appeared. I left it for a few more minutes, and success! It has been 5 days now and it is working perfectly with no loss of any data. A big relief.

You're sure one lucky guy ..

That was lucky.:good:
Normally if you try and turn a phone on after a dunking it's fried.
The best thing I have heard, though I have not tried it is.
After a dunk DO NOT press any buttons.
Put the phone in a bag of dry rice and leave it on a radiator or in a warm place for 5 days.
Then try the phone and keep your fingers crossed.

Beeping issues, won't turn on.

I've have had the phone for 2 years and it had been working fine until last summer, where I had accidentally left it in my trunks pocket when I went out swimming, It had to be underwater for like 10 minutes or so before I realized it, thankfully, we were on holiday in Turkey at the time so I could leave the phone (without a lid or battery) on the balcony for days to dry. And eventually, it worked! But that came with a few issues.
1. The phone would shut off randomly.
2. Had to charge the phone to power it on.
3. The camera had a few dark spots where water got in.
4. When the phone was powered off it would constantly start beeping, the same beep you hear when I power it on.
5. Speakers are weak.
Nowadays, I am pretty sure all the water is out of the phone, and I am only having these issues now.
1. The camera had dark spots.
2. Speakers are weak.
But yesterday, things were getting weird, when I closed the phone (close the phone, not power it off), and I try to open it again, it would not open and would randomly make a beep sound, then the buttons on the bottom would light up, the only thing I can do to make it normal was removing the battery, when I did that I tried putting the battery back in, and it is back to making those beeping sounds I mentioned on point 4. So I tried charging the phone to power it on, and it still didn't do anything! I found the only way to power the phone on was charging it without the battery then waiting like an hour for the 'charging' sign to come up allowing me to power the phone and insert the battery back in. But it still won't open when the phone is closed (again, closed, not powered off).
What should I do?
Water got in. Deep. And the fact that it was not disassembled and let to dry made it worse. Water could have still been inside. And the fact that you still used it didn't help either. Time for a new device.

The thing is, everything works, It's just the hard procedure of powering it on. But yeah, I might as well leave it on forever with certain apps until its time is up. FPBP to you sir.
You could certainly replace the speakers and camera, but I for one have no idea what the heck is happening with the weird sleep issue (yes, closing the phone=putting your pc into sleep or hibernate). I say it could be a power button failure, but if you could order a new frame off of ebay and replace it, see if the issue is still here. And that's not a beep, that's a tune you hear when the phone powers on. Or the vibration? Please clarify.
