just picked up the g2 but theres an update do i take it then root it.or does this update break root
Update then root or you'll run in to issues.
Sent from my LG-D803 using Tapatalk
Agreed. And be sure to read the root guide very carefully as there are some nuances with rooting and flashing custom recoveries right now.

+3.....take update, then root
well **** I rooted yesterday without taking that update. everything went fine too. currently running Malladus.
what are the issues you run into rooting without taking the update?

If you are running a custom ROM then you are good to go already. Malladus includes the update. The issue comes from taking the update after rooting, or especially after flashing a custom recovery.

Several reports say taking the update after root/recovery causes a recovery bootloop....but not taking it shouldn't affect your current rom.

I recently bricked my s3 trying to install a custom rom. This time around with my new G2 i am just going to root, so i need to know what the best root is right now and is there a possibility of bricking during root process? Also i am on the verizon VS980 with the JDQ39B build on 4.2.2. Thanks
There always is a slight Chance that something can go wrong. As long as you know what you are doing you should be fine. I also have the Verizon model and I rooted it and installed custom roms without any problems. Just make sure to backup

If I ever get an OTA update (almost unheard of on AT&T), what do I need to do before I install it to not mess up my phone? It's currently just rooted on the stock ROM.

unless you put a custom recovery on the phone

you get a nice recovery bootloop
but if you get an update
just use the update tool on the pc and plug your phone in and even if you
have a custom recovery it'll update because the update tool does it in download mode
What does "upgrade recovery" do in LG Mobile Support Tool? I tried googling it and couldn't find anything. I rooted and installed TWRP, and the LG Mobile Support tool says I don't have an update available but I'm only on the D80010d, not D80010o

The methods you mentioned above seem fine, but isnt restoring my nand backup(backed up on a stock rom) and flashing a stock rec, then unrooting is the simplest way?

No, using the TOT method is the simplest and quickest way. Takes all of about 5 minutes.

are you sure that is the best method for the international model?
i have the 16GB model, and the download provided in the TOT section of the guide is for the french one.
should i wait for the 16gb kdz file from my country(israel)or flash the french one(i need hebrew stock)?

If you want you can try the "Method 2" version in that thread. I've used that as well and it was very painless.

I might try it in a few days when the official 4.4.2 update gets released here.
Just so i would know, will restoring my backup(it is stock 4.2.2, i'm currently on cm11 4.4.2), flashing a stock rec and unrooting work?and if it will, will it bring back OTA?

I honestly don't know, I don't even know if there's a file you can flash that restores it to stock recovery. Using the TOT or Method 2 is essentially a file that restores it to stock ROM and stock recovery, so that's the only way I would know. But I supposed you're more than welcome to try it and see if that works.

There is this website named storagecow
http://storagecow.eu/index.php?dir=Xda/LG+G2/Stock/
And it has many firmwares available for download. As long as i download it in kitkat version, is it ok that i download the open europe version?
edit:in the open europe D802, the file's name doesn't state if it is 16 or 32GB, or even kitkat.
is it safe to use it with method 2?

Just make sure you're using the correct kdz for your device, do not flash another device's kdz file. So only download the version that's your phone.

When you're ready to use the flash tool, plug your phone in while it's in download mode.

Ummmm, well it to be honest I don't know. But I wouldn't risk flashing another phone's firmware. If you'd like, click the link the guy above me posted and as that question there. People in that thread, especially @hyelton, are very helpful.
