question about update - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Update then root or you'll run in to issues.

Agreed. And be sure to read the root guide very carefully as there are some nuances with rooting and flashing custom recoveries right now.

+3.....take update, then root

well **** I rooted yesterday without taking that update. everything went fine too. currently running Malladus.
what are the issues you run into rooting without taking the update?

If you are running a custom ROM then you are good to go already. Malladus includes the update. The issue comes from taking the update after rooting, or especially after flashing a custom recovery.

Several reports say taking the update after root/recovery causes a recovery bootloop....but not taking it shouldn't affect your current rom.

Nexus 4

Hello, I have the Nexus 4 I am running 4.2.2 and I'm rooted I was going to update the other day to 4.3 but it didn't work. Could this be due to a custom recovery? I am on stock android and i was unrooted at the time.
I was also wondering if there are any good root methods out there I have heard a lot of problems with rooting on 4.3?
Just would like some opinions?
Thanks guys

There's not really any problems just gotta make sure you're following instructions properly. All you need to do is obviously just unlock your device, then push recovery to it then flash root. Obviously the are more in the between steps.

do you have any idea why it wouldn't update over air? I was unrooted but did have CWM recovery. would that be the reason?

Root and OTA

If I ever get an OTA update (almost unheard of on AT&T), what do I need to do before I install it to not mess up my phone? It's currently just rooted on the stock ROM.

unless you put a custom recovery on the phone

you get a nice recovery bootloop
but if you get an update
just use the update tool on the pc and plug your phone in and even if you
have a custom recovery it'll update because the update tool does it in download mode
What does "upgrade recovery" do in LG Mobile Support Tool? I tried googling it and couldn't find anything. I rooted and installed TWRP, and the LG Mobile Support tool says I don't have an update available but I'm only on the D80010d, not D80010o

New LG G2 OTA Update!!!

In currently running stock firmware but rooted. I'm in the 3 network in the UK. I checked the other night to see if an update was showing and nothing, and I've been checking periodically over the last few weeks.
Tonight I thought I would give it a go and I am currently downloading a 548.36mb update. Does anyone know what this is??

are you running the 4.4.2 update already?? cause if so it might be bug fixes
Nope. I'm running stock 4.2.2. I didn't think u would get it as I an rooted.
Went to install it and obviously that's where NY excitement became frustration. I've uninstalled Xposed and done what I can to unroot the device without a PC and an attempting again.
Is there a way to unroot the phone without a PC?

if you have a custom recovery than you need a pc or alot of looking around for the flashable zips of stock recovery but they have flashables of the 4.4.2 update that are pre-rooted so id say flash that when you can
This does not belong in the Development Section; moved here...Thanks.

It was the Summer of 69....

Just recently updated my VS980 to 4.4.2 via OTA. All my apps now show they were created or last updated in 1969. What is going on? Even after a restore it still says 1969.
Congratulations sir I believe you have stumbled across time travel, on a serious note there has been an aosp bug similar I'm assuming you are not rooted and do not have a recovery installed though?

That will be your issue then, Taking OTA with any modifactions to system files will bork your phone even ROOT. I would recommend flashing a Stock KDZ to fix the issue you'll have to do some reading up on the LG Flash tool should be in the Q&A Section and should have the answers your looking for

Knock Code but rooted?

Sorry I'm not too educated in the whole root thing, I really want knock Code on my g2, but I'm currently rooted. Is there any safe way to update to get it without losing root?

People say d800 upgrade is here - with knock code support.
Today d80020u update started rolling out to d800 and it includes knock code, just wait until you get it

if you have modified anything on the phone(mods/xposed/debloat) ota fails because it knows you rooted, returning everything back to complete stock usually fixes the error
