[Q] bootloader kitkat gt-i9500 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i upgraded to 4.4.2 and somehow the os got into salad status.
I was wondering if there is a bootloader file that will allow be to regain hold of the that area and be able to reload a kitkat rom
i believe i downloaded prior versions of the bootloader file and it didn't work giving the error of the magic string. i presume that's for a prior to 4.4.2
But is there a bootloader file that will breath new breath into it -
If I as a 10 thumbs expert is inept, can anyone guide me to someone able to repair it, I AM WILLING TO PAY THE ASKING RATE TO ANYONE THAT FEELS UP TO THE JOB.
I will be immensely grateful to anyone that can assist this 70 y.old in need of his phone. at my age fixed income is hardship
MUCH APPRECIATED

I read your story 3 times but I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
- What is "salad status"?
- Do you want to downgrade your rom or do you want to reflash the rom?
- Breath new breath into it? What does that mean?

to be or not to be
before the disaster i had loaded the revosoft 4.4.2 rom at a point the phone rebooted and in middle of boot it stopped.
right now when started it stopped 3 or 4 notes before the end of the samsung tune. and it dies there.
i tried - download mode - via odin several roms although the odin message says pass, the phone still stops at the logo
recovery mode - i get an efs error and it does not load the rom, it aborts during and reboots, and it stops at the logo
i tried to load a bootloader hoping to help erase the existing failed bootloader with a fresh one. the bootloader i got failed via odin (the message on the phone was - missing magic string - and fail on odin)
that's why i asked if anyone had the new 4.4.2 bootloader to help me restart propely the phone OTHERWISE
i was willing to pay for a capable technician to do the job
better and thanks if you are able to assist

First of all:
Did you make a backup of your rom before you flashed the revosoft rom?
Can you give us the exact error you are getting in the recovery. The EFS error.

fingers crossed
1) yes i have a backup of the previous setup - and i do have full backups - so i am not worried about wiping everything
2) when i go into recovery - i get this error - without doing anything - just by entering recovery mode
e:failed to mount /efs(invalid argument) = twice
# MANUAL MODE #
--Appling Multi-CSC ...
Applied the CSC-cod : unknown
Successfully applied multi-CSC
top of the screen reads
Android system recovery <3e>
KOT49H i950xxufne4
i stop here in case you want to proceed with other instructions -
btw i tried to reload the previous backup and IT also died at the logo
thank you for your patience - always bare in mind i am willing to ship this anywhere in case it needs a good surgeon - money is no object as long as it does not cost the price of a new smartphone
sincerely

if it reboot to bootloader it sounds like theres a bad flash
how did you flash it?
also i assume you tried to flash a older version of Samsung Firmware witch has Unsecured bootloader (which means sound, wifi etc won't work)
to make it work get Odin, boot into download mode
flash the 4.3 leak (or make it withing recovery if you have a custom one)
Instructions For Flashing Firmware:
- Extract (unzip) the firmware file
- Download Odin3 v3.09 (From here or here)
- Extract Odin .ZIP file
- Open Odin3 v3.09
- Restart phone in download mode (Press and hold Home + Power + Volume down buttons)
- Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
- Add AP_I9505XXUEMI8_1715731_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI_ CERT.tar.md5 to AP
- Add BL_I9505XXUEMI8_1715731_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI_ CERT.tar to BL
- Add CP_I9505XXUEMI8_1715731_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI_ CERT.tar.md5 to CP
- Add CSC_OXA_I9505OXAEMI8_1715731_REV06_user_low_ship_M ULTI_CERT.tar.md5 to CSC
- Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
- Click start button, sit back and wait a few minutes.
- If you encounter any issues with the firmware (Any FC, Bootloop etc)
- Boot into recovery mode (Home+power+vol up)
- Choose to wipe/factory reset. (THIS WILL ERASE ALL OF YOUR DATA INCLUDING YOUR INTERNAL SD CARD!)
- Then choose reboot and you should be good to go!
if you have reverted to older firmware and upgrading to 4.3 again make a full wipe in recovery, just make sure you backup all her data before
sounds like a soft brick.
i did that to mine trying to put a rom on it.
I needed the boot.img

I am getting the same error when I try to flash back to the stock ROM and unroot my Verizon Note 3. I made the mistake of accepting the OTA update on my rooted device, did not have custom ROM or anything. The installation seemed to go okay but apparently wiped out the root. Everything was working fine but my root apps so I thought the device was essentially stock. I tried the Dela Vega Root method and it failed several attempts. So I tried flashing a stock ROM in Odin and I get the message you got. I tried downloading the stock ROM on two different occasions in case it was corrupted but still not working. Is my device bricked or is there something I can do? Any help would be appreciated.
Got my phone unbricked by following the directions in this thread. Installed pit file and my phone rebooted! Thank G-d! Was able to root with Kingo. De la vega root does not work with the firmware upgrade.

I had same issue and restored it . Follow this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2511880

You cannot go back or restore an old ROM, you have upgraded to 4.4.2 with NA6 Bootloader, so you can ONLY Run NA6 Bootloader which means you are stuck on KitKat now..
Reflash Kitkat 4.4.2 Stock and you're good to go :good:

Yeah you'll have upgraded cause it'll have installed the Bootloader then tried the ROM before the failure. -
What model/region are you using ? Is it a HK note?

But I tried installing 4.4.2
But no luck it's not updating. Odin giving me errors every time
Do you have any idear when i can get a rom that can work for me
Plz
well i am using Hong Kong
1 Minute I will edit and give you link to fix your device :good:
Follow exactly these steps (I've fixed the second link.). Update progress.
METHOD
In Odin mode
1. Flash the latest cf-autoroot (Kitkat support) [http://download.chainfire.eu/352/CF-...x-smn9005.zip]
2. Flash the Chenglu's latest CWM - 6.0.4.6 (the one that supports KitKat) http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2454079
Download Sweet Rom and place it in ExtSDcard (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2487425)
I tried external sd-card with various format and could not install the ROM. After format my SD Card to FAT32, the ROM can be installed.
On Device
1. Boot in to Recovery mode by Volume up + Home + Power
2. Wipe Factory reset / Dalvik Cache
3. Format /System (under "mount and storage" menu) [IMPORTANT STEP]
4. Install Rom from SD Card
5. Say your prayer. You'll need it. (The installation could take sometimes. If the device screen shows Samsung boot animation, you're half way there)
Thanks to @rinuvimal posting here
I've updated working links here:

Don't worry, as long as you can get into recovery and download modes, there will be a solution, its only a matter of time before we zone in on a solution.
What CSC region phone do you have? Dial *#1234# and check what the CSC code is. Also how much storage do you have on your phone 16Gb or 32GB?

thanks

You have posted the same question twice: (original link) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2489935
I have provided you instructions with a process to ROOT, install TWRP and work with the appropriate ROM files to get things operational. You responded to my PM stating you already had a recovery ROM you tried but it still fails.
Unfortunately, I have a feeling your device is glitched which is why I recommended you follow each section and each step to the letter. I understand this is redundant steps as you would be ROOTING, installing TWRP and going through a similar process as before but it's what we call process of elimination with troubleshooting in case something happened during the ROOT or with the install of your TWRP software. I have provided you with the appropriate ROM file and TWRP files for your device which should hopefully do the trick but downloading them takes time as hotfile limits your download speed.
I'm being a bit direct but your situation is more of a troubleshooting matter which takes time and has no magical/quick answer. Rather than posting twice, please try what is suggested and respond with the outcome so we can further troubleshoot.
Thank you!
Hi,
I really do appriciate all your help but it seems something else is going on. Once you told me the first time I installed TWRP already and that didn't solve the problem. I always get stuck in odin in the flashing of the system.img. I already tried everything you said many times today but it didn't work
Maybe this phone is different than other phones.

I understand you have installed TWRP to try and do a recovery but this is what I'm saying... Maybe the ROOT went sideways and something is glitched in the device. If you follow my instructions which I provided via PM, this involves rooting the phone again, installing TWRP from scratch and going through each step as if it were a new device. It will take about 1 hour to do this process due to hotfile server speeds but once you've gone through this process, if it still hangs then another problem may be occurring. My thoughts are the ROOT itself or the TWRP recovery have become corrupt somehow causing you to get stuck during the flashing process.
Hope this helps!

You might be right, but when I tried to root my device again I got into a boot loop. My phone doesn't have a operational operating system so the root wouldn't work it just boot looped. After that I re installed TWRP and proceeded but again failed in the same place...

OK, when you go into TWRP, from the touch base menus, click on format or wipe and within this menu, click on each option in a clockwise direction twice. This will wipe your device and hopefully come this time, you'll be able to ROOT the device again. Let us know how it works.

[Q] b5510l don´t work dialertab, lcd.test after flash and update firmware touchscreen

First of all thank you very much and sorry for my English .
I had a problem updating my b5510l , load stock rom via ODIN and then made the grave mistake of trying to update the firmware of the touch pad * # 2663 # ! Result: wifi error and stops operating the touchscreen .
Second rookie mistake , re-flash the stock rom and the phone stays on ... touch the android to continue ..
After reading several posts on this forum I've accomplished something and these are the steps:
1. Flashing stock rom with odin : PIT , bootloader , pda, moden and csc .
Two . Root with update.zip
Three . Connect my phone to pc and achievement androidscreencast I access the system .
The problem is that when trying to open the phone to dial * # * # 2663 # * # * and reflash the firmware of the touchscreen, I get:
*the phone application ( process.com.sec.android.app.dialertab ) has stopped unexpectedly . Try again ...
I installed exDialer and dialing the code have the same problem but with the application lcd.test
P / D: I also tried custom rom 's have the same result
I hope you can help me, Thank you so much for trying
Marcos
if it force closes when you try to open the dialer its wrong firmware/rom
if it force closes when you try to enter that code you havent got the apk installed that it relates to most likely
you can try and install the following apks with system app installer (playstore) dont install them as a normal apk as they wont install
you can also put them in a flashable zip and flash them with system mounted
you can also download the correct firmware from my thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2700169
hello namesake! Thank you very much for the reply, I will try both methods you have given me. Also I commented that I flashed with the stock rom download from samobile, besides other roms.
closes the dialertab alone fails to open. when I load the code in the exDialer lcd.test title screen appears but takes time and displays the closing force.
I got up to date with the results.
Greetings!
Mark

if you cant sort it via flashing stock rom via odin take it to repair shop and ask them to reflash your firmware and bootloaders using a jtag
hello friend! sorry for the question, If the phone responds via Odin and loading the latest stock rom with bootloaders still having the same problem. What else will make the sat with jtag?

it shouldnt be force closing if you have flashed the correct firmware via odin and everything has been done properly
this is why I said take it to a repair shop when they can erase everything off the phone and redo every part of the firmware with a jtag to ensure everything is done properly
anyway I want to avoid going to a sat. I have another query, if I get a nandroid backup from another phone and charge it via cwm on mine could solve the problem?
another dumb question I have to ask is: what if the active box nand erase all in odin? this would erase all of my phone? lose download mode doing a hard brick?
or would allow me to fully charge the stock rom from scratch?
excuse me by the insistence and if my question is very silly. Your interest is a great help to me.

never tick anything else in odin - you will risk damaging your phone
you can google what the other things do
the nandroid backup would have to be from the same phone using the same kernel and recovery as you or you need to flash the kernel and use the recovery from which the backup was made
you would also need to data wipe after flashing it else you will have all their data
I´m exact in the same point as Mark....
were you able to solve it?
I´m looking for a nandroid backup or a 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 firmware.

My phone Snapdragon 820 G935T is on the fritz at the moment. I screwed up something installing my rom, and now its saying "E:failed to mount / system (invalid argument).
Please, can someone help me out? I'm still fairly new at this, frustrated, and worried that i just bricked my new phone.
Thanks guys.
You need to use odin and reflash to factory
Yep use Odin to refrash stock then start over with the rom.
Hold down volume and power to force reboot and when screen goes black hold down volume+home+power to get to download mode

I think I know why your flash failed. You probably updated your T-Mobile phone up to the July patch which updates your bootloader to version 3. You probably tried to flash something with bootloader version 2 which will not work. You will need to flash the latest version of firmware to get your phone back to normal. Flash this: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/79204/G935TUVU3APG1_G935TTMB3APG1_TMB/
I'm pretty much in the same situation as you. :/
Also, I'm pretty new to this so you should wait until someone verifies what I said above before you try flashing, just in case I made a mistake.
