What is the kitkat build you are on- go to settings>about phone>build number
If you took the OTA you would be on NC4, in this case there is no way to go back to 4.3, the bootloader is incremented to prevent downgrade.
If you flashed the NC2 leak then you can just odin back to MJE use this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2483380
I didn't take the leak I followed beans thread to get the nc2

As long as its not NC4 taken from OTA you can downgrade with odin
Thanks

If you didn't take the OTA and you are on NC2 leak, then you can go back. You will lose root, but you can just re-root easily from that point using Kingo or V-Root.

I am currently rooted on mf9. Can I take the mja OTA? Will this put me back to stock? If I take the OTA will I run into any problems?

This has been answered a lot of times. Do some search please. But to answer your question. You need to be either pure stock or just stock with root. No mod of any sort, delete system apps or custom recovery; ota will not work. For now its better to stay away from 4.3 update, since i believe you are researching, there a lot of problems unless you want to be pure stock for awhile.

Hi all,
My Google-fu is failing me and I'm not certain of the best route to take a Galaxy S4 SGH-I337 AT&T 4.2.2 MF3 (Rooted with Motochopper) up to the new AT&T 4.3 firmware.
Can anyone point me in the direction of a guide for doing this? Everything I'm reading seems like I'll have to sacrifice my root, flash to stock with Odin, and then wait for AT&T to re-release the OTA update to 4.3. Am I off base?
Motochopper cannot root MF3. We're you able to hold root when you upgraded and are hoping to keep root again?
At the moment yes you will have to sacrifice root. I did. Root keeper does not support android 4.3 and keeping with SuperSU does not work either.

My phone is still rooted at this moment, though I'm on 4.2.2. I haven't upgraded anything yet. I was hoping there was a custom rom or something I could flash to get to 4.3 and retain root.
I'm just gonna wait until a stock 4.3 rom comes out that supports safestrap so I can keep root

Since you are rooted with a custom recovery you CAN flash 4.3 now without losing root. Just use ShoStock-i MJ9 4.3http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468860
Or VisionX MJ9 4.3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391142
Or Deadly Venom MJ9 4.3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2503692
and POSSIBLY a couple other 4.3 Touchwiz firmwares that are found in the Android Development Section
These are all from he International MJ9 firmwares but to me are better than the ATT firmwares for 4.3. The ATT 4.3 removed the Data Toggle completely from the pulldown menu and now you have to go into settings each time to turn it on or off. Plus other changes that are solely LACKING compared to the international firmwares. I have tried two of the above and they are both great and the third from what I have read works great as well. They are all great devs. Try them out and I suggest using the Jeboo 3.0 kernel for best results.

I concur with RockRatt. Shostock-I is smooth. It is bundled with jeboos 3.0 kernel. Love it. Biased, though. I've been using Sho's roms since my/his s2 days..

If "mrpeters" is MF3 he can't and shouldn't try flashing a 4.3 rom cause our MF3 Safestrap don't support it at the moment.

I only gave the advice above because he said he is ROOTED WITH MOTOCHOPPER ON MF3. As we know MF3 cannot be rooted with motochopper. So I was guessing that he rooted while on MDL or MDB with motochopper and used a ROM to upgrade to MF3.
So unless he is/was mistaken with those comments and he meant to say rooted on MF3 with safestrap then I would of told him to look at the safestrap threads.
Hopefully he clears things up with that as I WON'T want to give him Bad Advice.

well my touch screen has stopped working, so now this phone gets to go back to AT&T for repairs.
whats the best way to remove root and factory default it?
sorry to bump an old thread, but I wanted to see if anything had changed so I could upgrade from my rooted 4.2.2 I337UCUAMF3 to one of the newer OS versions that are out. This phone was a warranty replacement, but I had no trouble rooting it with Motochopper when I got it so I don't think it came stock with MF3, but its been 6 months so I can't say for certain.

You could flash the md3 tar and return it to stock. Then let out update itself. You'll lose root and you'll want to read some of the threads on the general section dealing with mk2 and nb1 before you do so so you know what you're getting in to

10-4. I don't want to lose root, so that's key. I should have clarified that. I use too many apps (LightFlow, NoBloat, Titanium, etc.) that I wouldn't want to give up.

My MDL updated itself when I went back to stock and forgot to disable OTA. Now that I'm locked into TW, is there a reason NOT to update to MK2? I know that it will install KNOX but with saferoot and safestrap, I'll have the same functionality of my rooted MF3?

I am at the same place in my phone. Were you ever able to update to 4.3 I need to do the same to have access to certain options and apps
Can someone help me take my S4 back to 4.3? I got the OTA update for 4.4 yesterday morning and have had nothing but problems. Terrible battery life (40% down in 3 hours with little to no use) WiFi wont turn on thanks to this piece of junk Knox software. So before I dump Samsung completely for a Moto X or Nexus, can someone help me downgrade from 4.4 back to 4.3 where I had no problems?
Were you totally stock before the OTA? If you still have warranty left, I would bring it in to a Sprint store and *****.
If not, you can try one of 2 things. 1) flash the NAE tar file using odin to see if that fixes your issues or 2) flash the MK2 tar file to bring you back to 4.3

I went Cyanogen at one point, didn't like it, and flashed back to stock. When the OTA hit I was rooted but had made no changes from stock, not even an uninstall of a Samsung app. I am backing things up now to flash the NAE again, but I want a version without this Knox garbage in it. Is there such thing?
I read that you can't flash back with Odin from 4.4 to 4.3 so I don't know how to do option 2 at this point.

Yeah, I think you are right. Can't go back to 4.3 once you have the 4.4 bootloader, my bad. I wonder if you should do a factory reset to see if that clears up your issues.

I believe once KNOX Bootloader has been installed, your stuck with it. No going back.
But honestly, if you root 4.4, your gonna void KNOX.

You're saying your bootloader went back to MK2 after this? Didn't think that was possible. I've had nothing but stupid little issues myself after using Odin to flash the phone to NAE. I've done factory resets... Completely wiped the phone in Philz. Tried KToonsez kernel as well and stock NAE just sux! I'll probably just flash Liquid Smooth back on it, was only trying to stick with stock NAE for stability and camera , that phone is my girls and she doesn't have the patience for all the bugs that come with custom Roms lol
Anyways just want to confirm that with you. Thanks

I don't know if that is possible for those of us rocking triband. Obviously we cannot use the Mk2 modem or rom. In any event, I upgraded to 4.4.2 on my new L720T and regretted it, but now I'v" managed to install twrp and rooted it and the rom settled down after a few days. At first, horrible battery use but now its amazing. My battery reads 75 percent after 14 hours and that's quite good enough. The only issue I still face is the SD card thing, but that only seems to apply third party software as I can move files directly from internal to external memory using the stock files app that comes with android.
i dont know about triband. i dont have one and im not going to pretend im a smart dev because thats also not true.. i HAVE ODIN 4.4.2 THEN turned around and ODIN 4.3 due to something i didnt like...im not sure if it changes the bootloader or not, i dont even check. i have only tried this with mk2 to nae.. when i purchesed my device it came with mk2 so i have never tinkerd with the other bootloaders. if you have something other then mk2 id ask a dev befor doing anything. like i said it works for me as long as i flash the modem FIRST that corrisponds to the build. ( mk2 or nae )...and in some cases if the wifi is borked on nae, iv had to flash the modem again after instalation of the rom.. i cant explain why any of this happens....

But that's interesting you can go back to mk2 after being on nae. I figured that was not possible. But if you didn't get any fails in Odin while downgrading that's great. Maybe I'll get ballsy and try this later.

You're stuck for now, hopefully someone find a root method for it. I'm staying on NC2 until then, root is too important to me.
No root method for NC4 and no way to downgrade either
Only way to go back to MJE is if you are on NC2 leak
I'm currently running the leaked kitkat NC2 build with safestrap recovery installed and I need to unroot and return to stock tonight. I'm meeting someone tomorrow at a Verizon store to trade devices. Needless to say I must be stock. I'm aware root will be lost yes. What I wasn't sure of, is, is there a way I can unroot and return to stock but with the latest ota kitkat firmware? Is this available yet? If so can someone please point me in the proper direction for how I do this. Thanks.

Well, all you need to do is Uninstall su and flash the official mje tar in Odin and update to kit kat by accepting update . Otherwise , there is an official tar for nc4 on the Samsung website and flash in Odin
