Camera
Dialer

Documents
Email

Tapatalk
Torch
ADW launchers
Apex launcher
Solid explorer
CM11 theme chooser
Apollo
Desk clock
cLock
Lock widget
Theme chooser wallpapers app "it lets me add 20 wallpapers"
100+ icons
Bootanimation
Caviar dreams fonts
Sounds - Bentley Dubs - Mira - Buzzer alarm
More to come!!!
NOTE: Hangouts, Google music and a few other Google apps will not theme to my standards and will not be included until I feel it looks right. If you ask about it I will send you to this post...
Look in the TeamBlackOut updater for fully themed versions of them.
Google plus is old because the new one won't decode fully so we can't theme it and it looks half baked in BlakKat if I add it. So it won't be added unless I can get more code from it.<-----themed yay!
thank you!
@op I love your themes.I bought darkjelly back in the day and I know I'll buy this one.Great job again

I love the klearkat, I wish it didn't change my softkeys though ?. Great job OP!
DJ, you might remember I switched from KlearKat to BlakKat recently due to 4.4.3 dialer issue while you get KK going... BlakKat is actually growing on me, but was curious - is there any remedy for apps who's UI doesn't like the theme - eg Minimalist Text just basically blacks completely out on the menus... Some apps just grey out which is still usable (SSHDroid, FTPDroid are examples).
I realize these are not your issues to work on, but short of switching the theme back to default when I need to use these apps, Is there something specific we can ask the devs to add or include so theme(s) don't wash out their apps?

Hmm, well that app is very unusual, I didn't invert any white to black so I have no idea why that grey text is on black. The tabs I know about but are usable but that bg shouldn't change at all. What does it look like on stock?
With this kind of issue I would have to take apart the app to see why.

OK - not a critical issue or anything I just didn't know if there was something UI specific I could mention to app devs or something like that... Here is stock (Holo Theme) it's all pretty much white or grey I guess.. or black in the previews. It's not like I'm in the MimText app every day, more of curiosity than anything .
This is an SSH App, which has a grey wash over everything when themed - still usable, of course just wondered why it does it. The dev has several apps that are similar (SSH, FTP, Samba) and they all do it (with KlearKat also), so it has something to do with the way he coded the apps I suppose...
Didn't mean to infer you need to work on anything, mainly just curious about why/how really .

Looks like I'll be reverting the grey bg for white to fix that grey on grey but the black bg shouldn't change. I have not one spec of code inverting anything on system so this is a weird one.
Definitely something I needed to know, thanks.

@djdarkknight96 seems like pacman latest nightlies still don't have CM11 commits on theming Gmail, even though everything else seems synchronized. So Gmail looks totally skinned only on CM11 now, on pacman only first screen is skinned. New message and expanded message thread are white( any quick advice on what background values to look for to make a temporary fix for other roms? will upload it here if i can fix it)

There's nothing wrong with your Rom, gmail is the issue. Google hard coded gmail reply, new message and vacation responder. So I can't touch it with the chooser or even theme the actual apk. Give Google a big fu for that one.
Edit: The ONLY way to fix it is use my old gmail...Link in signature.

I know I am new to the Android Modding world and these forums and all, but today I finally figured out how to make a 9 patch PNG image quite easily. I was playing around with RandomKing's Modified Transparent MMS.apk and his Blue Swype.apk today to get it to look more like I would want it on my device.
This brings me to wondering what other people would like to see in these to .apks and far as theming goes. I am going to totally revamp the Swype Keyboard with the font that is used in RandomKings Hawk v.2 ROM as well as change the look of the buttons, colors, etc. side note: I tried playing with transparency of the swype keyboard a bit to mimic the transparent MMS, but there is the other 'keyboards' behind that image. IIRC it is the 'shift' version of w/e active keyboard.
For the MMS.apk, I am looking to make more color options, bubble styles and some gradiesnts'borders/glow instead of solid transparent colors.
I have been given the 'go' by random as I understood as long as I credit his original modifications.
I have no idea to code or compile a .zip to install and all that stuff, so these will be just the .apks that you will need to replace. ( I have done this already with my Swype.apk and MMS.apk about 20 times, haha)
Brings me to my next area of biniss... What would YOU guys like to see as far as themes go? I will probably do a few variants (colors) of one or two major styles.
Personally, I am all about dark themes, but i know everyone has their preference's
So, post up, throw in some ideas, ask questions.. I will NOT be taking donations or charging for ANYTHING, ever..
It took me a while to find out how to get this 9 patch stuff working and I almost lost hope when I saw that you had to use Eclipse (which i am NOT ready to learn) but now I found a MUCH easier way. I can do a tutorial and compile everything you need for this also if i have enough requests.
EDIT: you can choose as many or as little choices in the poll as you would like. If you don't see something you want, post it in the thread. I will try to keep on top of the comments in this thread, but I am going to start working on it right now.
I'm a fan of dark themes myself, and I really like the froyo AOSP theme with the white status bar. Do you think you can make a theme I've been thinking of for awhile I have a lot of ideas nd icons you can use?

Ooh I got a great idea
Make swype full transparent
except for the line and add it a changeable theme to nexus swype
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
as i said before, i dont think the way the swype keyboards overlay that the transparency will work. i will have to look into it a bit more though.
here is a little more playing and refining with different colors.. i think the slight borders will look nice and the transparency on the bubbles is about right. i think making them a little more transparent will be nice for people with dark wallpapers, but might get a little busy/ugly looking with people with lighter wallpapers that have a ton going on, like so VVV
let me know what you guys think about the general button look so far.
@tpike, sending PM in a moment, really appreciate the offer to help a n00b like myself.
background of the MMS is already slightly transparent, what you see in the background is my wallpaper.
@gtuansdiamm, show me exactly what you are looking for and I can try to make something for you.. and let me know what colors you would like.
again, I just figured out how to get these patch 9 dealios to work today, so don't be to critical I love these things now.. SOOO easy.. created, edited, patched and compiled 12 pngs in ~1hr. not to bad!!!
I will try to make a camstudio video tutorial on how to create a patch 9 from scratch. I just downloaded it and had an issue, so ill try again tomm. Starting to be a huge PITA looking at this screen also. I have my computer hooked up to my 52" rear projection TV right now .. my eyes hate me..

That looks pretty cool. That blue is pretty close to what I was thinking for HCFE mms in the update.

^^ ill try to get on that this weekend if i get a chance..
heres the start to my re-vamp'd keyboard for swype, im not just coloring it, i am re-designing the buttons and using the smooth font in RandomKings ROM.
the 14 different pngs for the keyboard will keep me budy for a while, but since i will be saving PSDs of each one, i will be able to fully customize colors and the look of the button (bevel, shadow, etc.) quickly and save them all to PNG, recompile apk and voila, new swype look in less than an hour...
i can also post any PSDs i create for those interested in taking this on themselves as long as you credit me with the PSDs
This Is looking good dude!
Posted by Mr. Z's Epic 4G.
thanks.. I think I am going to add some subtle gradient to the button itself, but not so its to flashy and eye burning.. not quite like the dark horse theme with the glassy look, more subtle.
I am going to keep the .psds so i can easily modify the look of the buttons if someone wants something different. these PSDs are going to end up being like 100 layers a piece.. at least the layout of PT and LS are pretty much the same for the button layout!
For the MMS, I am also going to try to modify the look of the top 'contact background' and the compose line background to match the respective theme.
alright!! sorry for the week or so hiatus!! I HAVE been trying to find time to work on this..
I just spent a couple hours getting the 9 patch tutorial together and posted that up.
I started working on an Actual theme that should be complete by tuesday. This will be a blue/black theme with gradients.. the send message for example will have a blue top/ black bottom and the receive will be black top/blue bottom. the shades of blue will differ slightly. This should cover the blue/black theme. The bubbles will be slightly transparent and less transparent when pressed.
Some other theme mods will include the 'NEW MESSAGE background, text input background, contact header background (within message stream) contact PRESS background within overall message area, the 'slide for call and message' (left and right) will be darkened slightly to more match the theme.
Next up will be continuing to work on the Swype theme to match the blue/black theme. After everything is complete, creating new themes based on these will be a cake walk..
There hasn't been many votes, but as of right now i will be doing the following themes for MMS and Swype.
Blue/Black
Gray/Black
Purple/Pink
Green/Black
I will be modifying a script and such so these can be installed via a .zip flash and WILL test it on a few phones before I post it up.
Hope you guys enjoy! and I hope this will continue to go decent so I can continue to theme other apps!!
here is what i currently have with my black/blue theme. any opinions?

Which one/ones did you try on what rom?
To test I just did a full wipe (wipe data/cache, format system, cache, data, flexrom) and reinstalled taboonay (3.0, then 3.01 update, then wifi fix, then acer ring, then my mods) and it worked great

Well, I might have to eat some words.
I tested 2 of them. I didn't see it on the first mod (#1), but (when things got dark in the room), I could barely see the white numbering on the battery icon on the "reflective". So "maybe" it was working after all. Kinda hard to see the white numbering on the light blue battery.

karlkarloff above says that the droid font worked with flexreaper. If one of them works they all should, they only difference between each mod is the 5 to 7 sofkey .pngs. Do a backup and if all else fails you can just restore the backup. Give me about 15 mins and I'll add the white HTC ones too.
Edit: Added White HTC to folder

looks about right to me, not sure what you mean by bull eye but if it's related to the acer ring it shouldn't change anything, everything related to the acer ring should be in acering.apk. The only thing my mod replaces is your framework-res.apk and your systemui.apk.
Yea if you look at the pic the greenish/yellowish dot with a circle around it the acer ring launcher used to look different like a grey line.

No, I didn't make any of these, credits are in the op. Search icon there because some tablets have search icon I guess???
Pretty easy to switch in any icons, if you want to link or send me some wouldn't take me a few minutes to resize, rename, and swap in the icons. If you wanted to do it yourself all you need is 7zip and Gimp (actually paint might even be able to handle this). Maybe I'll sit down Friday while I'm off and type up a detailed tutorial.

Welcome to the Utimate Customization Guide for the XPERIA 8!
-----------------
Basically, this is a Reference Guide on how to Customize your X8 (or any Android device) to the MAX! (But this guide
will focus on what works for the X8, not what doesn't )
I will include a quick FAQ section too for all the questions you need answered. (e.g What is MDPI etc?,
What is Theme Chooser, etc)
So, let's get started shall we?
-----------------
Themes (Most Popular / Smooth)
Here we've got the Themes Index.
Now, I'm not copying & pasting these over.
I've tried all of these and I will give my take on them here.
I'll only list a few but if you want a complete list then I will refer you to this thread
Also, this app is where I find new themes to try out.
It's been on the Market for quite a while now so I decided to share it here too.
Now, on to the list. The TOP 5 (IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER) Most Popular / Smooth
5. A-Chep: CM7| ICE Cream Sandwich | MDPI | LDPI
This one has got to be everybody's favourite? Probably the best ICS theme for MDPI / LDPI out there yet!

Homescreen Tips!
Welcome to the homescreen tips sections. Here I'll show you how to make your homescreen look and feel the cleanest, smoothest and fastest!
Let's get right into it!
1. Try not to use a Live Wallpaper. It will drain battery and reduce performance.
2. Use a light launcher for best performance, if you want more features then use a launcher of your choice and reduce performance in it's Settings and use a Minimalistic theme.
3. Heavy Launchers will REDUCE PERFORMACE!
4. Try not to use the Default Launcher that ships with your device or ROM. Generally these are slow and have very few effects, customization options.
5. Stuck for inspiration? Check out XDA Member "tohno"'s thread!
Located here.
Also check out this thread from XDA's "Android Themes" Board.
-----------------
Widgets (Lag Free / Popular)
This part of the thread will focus on Widgets.
Not just the "most popular" widgets (because we obviously know about them ) but also the ones that don't lag your launcher and cause it to crash.
Let's get started!
5. LevelUp Studio| 2.0.1+ | Beautiful Widgets | PAID
Oh come on! This has been around since the Vikings. I mean, its the most popular "Widget Pack" on Android along with "Fancy Widgets". Beautiful Widgets is a collection of "Beautiful looking Widgets" with thousands of themes to choose from. It's got loads of cool effects and honestly, it's worth the money. Definitely worth a look!
Buy now on Google Play!
4. Android Does| 1.6+ | Fancy Widgets | FREE & PAID
If you didn't like Beautiful Widgets or you're looking for something a little bit different then I can assure you, you might want to check Fancy Widgets out. Even though Beautiful Widgets gets more frequent updates than this, I recommend you check it out. It's based around the same concept as Beautiful Widgets. But if I were to choose between the two, it'd be Beautiful Widgets.
Download now for free or buy it on Google Play!
3. Devmil| Version varies with device! | Minimalistic Text | FREE & DONATE
Okay, I get it. You're all fed up with all this premade-clock and weather widget bazaar! Let's move on then, shall we? This is "Minimalistic Text". One of the most popular widget creator apps on GPlay. It gives you a crap ton of options to create your own widgets but with keeping a Minimal look and feel. Try it for yourself.
Download now for free on Google Play, or Donate to show your appreciation!
Also, check out Chris95X8's thread for his MT widget! Pretty Awesome!
2. Cédric Depoortère | 2.1+ | Circle Battery Widget | FREE
Name explains it all. It's a Minimal 1x1 Battery % Widget! Sweet!
Download now for free on Google Play!
1. A-Chep | 2.1+ | acWidgets: Your Calendar | FREE
This one is my favourite calendar widget. Not because the developer is part of our very own X8 section but because it has an awesome UI!
Download now for free on Google Play!
Also, check out the other widget(s) in the acWidgets series! Here!
Don't worry! Don't fret!
There WILL be more widgets added but I have to test them first!
Thanks for reading this section anyway! Check back soon.

F.A.Q
Q. What is LDPI, MDPI, HDPI (etc)?
A. These are short for xDPI (x being L,M,H) DPI means Dots Per Inch. The X8 has an MDPI compatible screen.
Q. What is Theme Chooser?
A. Theme Chooser is pretty self explanatory.
It's a Theme Selector application included in CM7 & CM9 ROMS which allows the user to select a theme of their choice. Themes must be installed first.
Q. How do I add/install themes compatible with Theme Chooser?
A. Installing a theme is as simple as downloading an app. Simply find the APK of the theme and install it!
Q. How do I apply a Theme Chooser theme?
A. Open the Theme Chooser app and Scroll to the theme of your choice and press the "Apply" button. Wait.
Congratulations, you've now applied your theme! (Reboot may be needed to refresh SystemUI!)
Q. Where do I get Theme Chooser?
A. You cannot install Theme Chooser by copying it to /system/app.
Your ROM must be compatible with it. Most CM7 & CM9 ROMs will have this pre-installed.
Q. What is a Widget?
A. A widget is like a mini-app on your homescreen. Think of you home screen as a container for all these mini-apps.
For example; You can download a clock widget and that would simple be a clock within your homescreen.
Same with a Power Control widget. It's usually for quick access to feature(s) of an app from your homescreen.
Is your question not here?
If not, then do these steps before posting!
1. Read this F.A.Q again.
2. Look through Lucastan96's ULTIMATE FAQ GUIDE (which is stickied) in X8 Q&A.

So the Google Home Launcher has been released as an apk. Can anyone give it a try?
This would require Google Play Services 4.0 to be installed, as well as Google Search and Google Home.
http://www.droid-life.com/2013/10/3...om-the-nexus-5-dump-search-launcher-and-more/
Can anyone install those 3 apk's and see if it works fine on the LG G2?
If this works, then this would sway me to get a LG G2 over a Nexus 5.
Been working great since yesterday. To bad its a let down. Icons are to big and the options are limited. I was really looking forward to it. I'm sure after a couple updates it will improve.
Is there a way to add more home screens? Change number of rows/columns? I didn't see it.

There is no launcher options? It's possible maybe you can't change number of home screens since the settings options for the Launcher menu is baked into the Settings menu of KitKat. (i could be wrong)

Big thread including all the new google apk's in the Apps and Themes section.
Just install it and give it a go, it is easy to do and doesn't have to be permanent. If you backup your current homescreen (in your homescreen settings), you defintiely wouldn't lose anything.
I did it, and then just went back to using LG launcher. Takes seconds to do.

No there are options. You hold on the bottom right of the dock and swipe in. The new widgets and app adding to home screens is there with a settings icon on right. That takes you to a screen with limited options.

How many home screens do you need? It has multiple by default. I know removing screens is easy as just deleting any apps or widgets that are on the screen.

OK I added a full widget. Then when I try and add another there is a new screen on the right. And looks like another appears when adding widgets or icons. My Bad!

I agree. I found it a let down too. The only thing I can presume is that once 4.4 actually intertwines with it, it will open up a few more options and make it even smoother. I had a litter stuttering on pressing back.

The only thing 4.4 will bring is transparent status and nav bar. Yeah it may make it smoother but I need to at least shrink those icons a little. They look huge! Maybe with an icon pack, but there's no options for that?
And I like the new search bar but it better work while the device is locked like Moto X or no Bueno.

The more I think about it, the less I like the launcher. I was very disappointed with the lack of options. Currently I can see no reason to use that launcher, as presumably once we get our 4.4 update, the clear nav & status bars will be permanent in stock g2 rom anyway, instead of just homescreen. That is what I want most anyway. The lg launcher is surprisingly good.

Granted it is 100% better than what there was before from Google. For people who don't use launchers it will be great and if its available in the Play store even better. It will get updated I'm sure and can only get better. I'll stick with Apex but can't wait to see where the GEL goes :good:
I actually said, like a week ago, that one way to really bring the "updated" experience is to just release the Google Launcher just like they did with the keyboard and others. The more they "modulate" Android, the easier people would be able to update bits and pieces, or as a whole. The launcher is really 90% of the experience anyway.
And Google also needs to adapt the CM Tmobile Theme Engine too.
If people can grab the latest Launcher, Keyboard, and other apps, along with the ability to download the latest Theme... boom. I'd stay on 4.0 and probably wouldn't even flash custom roms. They should also throw the Google Lockscreen up on the play store while they are at it.
Nothing will trump Nova launcher for me.
Sent from my LG-D802
Nova is great but it doesn't support transparent status/nav bars on stock. I ran nova on my GNex and AOKP had transparent bars on Nova.
I would switch back to Nova on my G2 if they could toggle the transparencies. But LG stock launcher is pretty slick and has the bare options to make it usable.
Does the new Google Launcher do transparencies on the stock LG G2?

Knock on is in the kernel. They use the kernel so knock on Will work.
Knock off is different. Its handled with software. The LG Launcher does it currently and the status bar. I don't think either will work on AOSP.
What I do anyway is set my screen off time to 15s.
Some people use nova or alt launcher to setup double tap to launch a 3rd party app that turns the display off.
I actually dislike the Knockoff. I'm half tempted to flash a custom just to break it. I like my double tap to open my app drawer.

I had a Moto X Pure and was running a rooted version of the stock ROM..... I installed Layer's manager and the layer of my choice (Dark Stock) and it worked.
I tried this with my Axon 7, the Layers manager installed fine and ran, but I couldn't find any of my installed themes to apply? Is there a setting that needs changed in a ROM in order to be able to change the theme, or are we just not there yet?

First of all, Layers has been deprecated and Substratum has taken it's place. Although it does have legacy support for Layers still. And secondarily, (maybe a silly question, but I'm just going on the way you've worded your question) did you download the theme(s) you want to try from the play store? And then there's also a good chance, even though android now has (some) native support for RRO themeing, that some things like the ui and dialer etc will not themes as the commits are not there from ZTE.

I seen there was a new name with "Layer's" being secondary in some of the descriptions? A lot can change in a month, because I was using "Layer's" just last month on my Moto X Pure and had no idea it was going away.
Yes, I did download the theme I wanted from the PlayStore (Dark Stock).
I may try it again since I've done a few more things to it....And I realize that not everything is "theme-able", mainly looking for just a few things, like the notification cards in the pull down and my settings menu.
But the fact I was still using the Layers Manager was probably the issue. I just installed the Substratum manager and it worked, at least for the notification cards. The settings menu wasn't completely themed, so I un-theme'd it.
This is all I really wanted! My PlayStore is also themed, the rest is left alone.

The settings *DID theme, but they looked like cards with a white background and you could see around the edges and the gaps between "groups". It didn't look very good, so I un-themed the settings.

I normally don't do Xposed with a custom ROM, but Xposed is great at modding a stock ROM....So, yes I installed Xposed for just a couple small things (using GravityBox):
1) Round battery icon
2) Center clock
3) More music volume steps (30)
I also used emoji switcher and have "Emoji One" emoji's.

Oh man, this is pretty much all I need to get me by until some actual development starts up. That is if we ever get sources or AOSP type ports. Only thing I worry about with ports is full functionality of all the features this phone has and oft times battery life can take a hit due to lack of full optimization. Thank you.

From looking at the Substratum page, it seems like it has two modes -- one with root and one without. Is that accurate? It'd be nice to have themeability while still staying stock.

When you say we have root, are you referring to this method?

From what it looked like there it was still untested on US model.
