Been using my tegra note for a few days happily enjoying it's brilliance, but yesterday I started noticing the touch screen was not working in certain areas, in particular either all down one edge then all down the other, strangely enough it seemed to change depending on the position I had the device in.
If I had it up in landscape mode the bottom strip was not picking up m my touches at all, especially difficult typing,
Then we I had it in hand Landscape or portrait, the far edge would stop working... Then it came to me, I flapped the cover away so not doubled back and flapped around the back of the device.
Screen had been perfect, so then I tested positioning the magnet strip in the cover in different places along the back of the tegra, and where ever it was positioned the screen would be less sensitive, weird or simply not working.
The reason this had only shown yesterday is because that's when I first fitted and started using the flip cover
Going to return the cover, and let the manufacturers know.

I think this is a software issue, I've seen the same behaviour. Locking and unlocking the tablet seems to bring back the deadzones.

I found a simple solution to fixing a digitizer that's starting to go bad, after having replaced the digitizer on my phone TWICE. The first digitizer started having the typical symptoms, where about a 1cm bar about a third of the way down the screen just wouldn't register touches. And if it did, it normally ended up with spontaneous, erratic behavior. I ordered a replacement, which turned out to be worse than the original digitizer. Sent that one back, got another digitizer, and it worked great for about a month. Then I started having same issues all over again. (And if anybody here has replaced a digitizer on this phone already, you probably understand how painful it can be.)
So, for those of you who haven't ordered a replacement yet, and are having the issues I've described above, try this test first. When you start experiencing erratic behavior and dead spots, squeeze the upper portion of the phone, where the camera, speaker, and Motorola logo is, moving in left to right. Don't be afraid to use a good amount of pressure, but don't squeeze to where you might crack something. If the problem disappears, the thin cable underneath that area is starting to separate away from the connections. (Don't know the correct terminology here.) Now, I'm not sure if it's just glue or really thin amount of solder holding these connections together, but I do know that they break pretty easily. I ended up using a heat gun, and heating up the upper portion of the phone till it was a little too hot to touch (be careful, though, too hot, and you might cause some damage to the LCD screen.) and used a rag and squeezed from the center, moving outwards, maintaining as much constant pressure as I could, till the phone was about normal temperature.
It's been roughly an hour since I've tried this, and I haven't had any issues thus far, except for a couple hiccups. I may end up doubling up on the double sided tape on the bottom, to create more of an incline to prevent the ribbon from further separating. But this may help squeeze some more life out of the digitizer. Hopefully this helps a few of you!
Well, turns out the fix really didn't work. Still trying to figure out what causes the digitizers to go bad. I have noticed, though, that squeezing the upper left corner (where the camera is) gets rid of the problem, but it reappears usually a few moments later.

i dont for defo, but thats the area that i posted about, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1719653
you use that piece thin of metal, to push against the fingerprint area, then screen display is good
working for me over a week now.
I got caught in the same problem,i have read a thread about how to fix this problem the other day (which is to insert a small stuff between the battery and fingerprint scanner)
then i tried to pull the scanner upwards a little, then it seems working!
but this issue comes back after i placed the back cover
finally i found that my problem would disappear once the back cover taken out!and appear once covered!
I think the problems starts when you push a lot of times the finger print to wake up the phone.

Hello. So, I like to run, and quite often or not I hold my phone whilst running - as my running shorts don't have pockets. I should probably invest in some kind of arm strap or something. But either way, could running whilst holding my phone damage anything on the phone, internally, or externally? Or can I keep on doing it?
Also, dust. Today when running, I went past a builders yard and there was dust everywhere. Could that harm my phone?
Finally! A friend of mine shone his S3's camera on the back of my phone to see the pattern. Could that bright light do any damage to the camera?
Thank you for reading.
If it drops, the back glass will most definitely break. Maybe the front as well. If its sealed up properly dust should not be a problem. If your in an area where light is so bright it damages phone parts then you have other problems to deal with.

I always ran with my phone in my pockets but fairly loose and its always been alright.
I use this armstrap. It holds my cc, keys, ID, and phone.

I've been snowboarding with the N4 in my coat pocket for the past two months which has involved temperature changes ranging from -5 degrees to 70+ degrees within a single day, various climbs to the top of peaks, lots of vibration from different riding conditions, abrupt stops from dropping off of various cliffs/jumps etc. and the phone is still 100% flawless and has never had a single functionality issue. I do have a Diztronic case on it but the screen has no protection and is holding up perfectly. In fact, this is the first phone I've been able to put through its paces which has not developed a single scratch on the screen.
I can't speak for dust since I haven't really run into that much but in terms of durability of vibration and movement, I'd say the phone is pretty damn solid.
Ive used this for the past 3 phones and the N4 fits snugly (but not troublesome to put in or tough on the phone). I ran with it two days ago for the first time and it worked just as well as my GNex.

Ive run with all of my phones on my arm like that, as does my girlfriend. It may seem bulky but once you get it strapped down you dont really notice it. I use the Motorola Bluetooth headphones to get rid of cables and I use Cardiotrainer/Runkeeper to help track my performance.
If you're using a screen cover, that Tune Belt Armband might cause problems. I used to use that with my Nexus S when I was walking the dog and if I didn't peel the phone out carefully, it would catch the Zagg protector and bring it with it.
I run a lot and absolutely can't stand the bulk of a phone, even with the Tune Belt. Get a Garmin watch.

So sharp movements on the phone should be okay then? At least till I can get a strap. And provided I don't get my phone covered in dust, that's okay too? The bright light am talking about is just the light/LED/torch or whatever that's on the back of an S3
btw. What are the diamind like markings I can see on the screen in sunlight?
There's no moving parts, so you'll be ok running with it in your hand.

Has anyone else noticed that the nexus 4 sits just fine, tilted against the wireless charger, when it is upside down?
No need to worry about positioning. No need to worry about mystery magnets or rubber pads, since the lower edge sits nicely on the table. It just works.
I think that this is a design error. You can see the actual interior location of the wireless pad in the phone from various breakdown posts. The geometry is just perfect - if you don't know about or didn't notice the correct position of the display.
If I am right:
What would you do back in November if you unpacked a crate of these things and tried one out?
Maybe Google will send all those who purchased this a snap-on plastic stand that allows the phone to sit securely in its proper orientation.
Can you take a picture to explain further of your idea?
I have also noticed this, but it isn't a huge deal to me because it works both ways on my end.

I know this is yet another touch issue thread, but this does not have to do with phantom touches, and differs slightly from another the touch/responsiveness thread in that I have reproducible steps. I actually posted this in the touch/responsiveness thread but I would like to get more visibility to see if this problem is universal, and maybe determine if it is a hardware issue or hopefully just a software/firmware issue. I can reproduce this without fail, as can my friend on his n7. Please try the following things and report back your results:
If I lay the tab flat on a table, unplugged, and touch it with 1 finger, touches are only registered maybe 70% (give or take 20% every 10 samples) of the time.
If I touch it with 2 or more fingers, no issues at all.
If I'm holding the tablet in one hand and touching it with 1 finger, no issues.
If I merely touch the case (not even the screen) with one finger while the tablet is flat on a table, and touch the screen with 1 finger, no issues.
If the tablet is plugged in, no issues at all in any scenario.
This sounds like a grounding issue, which I've experienced on other devices (my HTC Incredible had this I remember). It makes it difficult to use the device when you just want to check something while its lying on a desk without actually picking it up. I don't know whether firmware actually affects something like this (for example some code that controls what sort of capacitive requirements are necessary to register a touch).
I turned on
Show touches
Pointer location
in developer options
and performed your test.
I did 1 finger 15 times, 2 finger 15 times 3 finger 15 times
I tried with it flat on table and then separately holding (so basically 90 samples)
Every touch registered based on the output from "Show touches" and "Pointer location" against the backdrop of an empty home screen
I've had phones/tablets in the past where the touchscreen became a little spasdic when plugged in a charging but not when unplugged (not saying it isn't happening for you, just my experience)
this happens on a lot of devices when flat because you just dont press the screen as hard. especially when you are trying to just barely brush the screen. solution: touch a little bit harder, works 100 percent for me
Mine works great when I try this. No issues I can find.
[Update]
Meh Kinda iffy. Mostly works. Definitely missing a few touch inputs this way. Maybe 1/10 touches, but seems only in the top part of the screen close to the border. I've actually hit it 4 times in a row and got nothing.
I'm using Yet Another Multitouch Tester and using the paint portion and just tapping on the screen.
I have 100% tap rate when I hold it with one hand and tap with another. But if I lay it down on a desk and tap the top left/right corners, I'm getting misses. The rest of the edges and screen are perfect. I'm only seeing misses at the top corners really. The drop rate isn't enough to cause an issue and there may be other factors at play. I have Sidebar and Android Notification shades and CM10.2 kangs AppBar, listening for touch inputs on the edges. Something could be off with them stealing the inputs, maybe.
Or it could simply be something screwy with the screen. But oddly it works perfect with a second finger or a hand supporting it.
I think this is pretty normal, as said earlier. Capacitive touch screens work by detecting the electricity from your body, if the "circuit" isn't "good" (laying on wood) then it will have a harder time detecting touches. For me, it is well within range of acceptable. I almost NEVER use the tablet when it is laying down anyway. I can only think of a few things that would allow me to use it while laying down, handsfree, and if it misses once or twice, big deal.
I was laying in my bed last night trying to type a comment out but noticed that it kept missing letters even if i slammed my finger against the screen lol. Definitely noticeable too; not just 1/10 times. But I did put a spigen screen protector on there and if memory serves me right I didnt have any issues when a screen protecotr wasnt on it

Unfortunately I don't ever plan on touching the screen without a protector on there, so we need info from people who have naked n7s
I definitely have some touches missing when the tablet is on my bed and im trying to one-finger it.

Laying in bed holding the tablet with 1 hand and typing with the other causes letters to be pressed that I don't physically touch. No screen protector here. I'm also having incredible difficulty in getting long presses to work properly (I would say on this tablet I trigger them every 2 out of 5 tries) which is a problem I've never had on another device.
I removed my screen protector and no more one finger on the table unresponsiveness..... Now the hunt to find a screen protector that doesn't block the grounding of my finger....

What brand caused the issue?
Intellishield which had never given me problems before got that brands on my s3 and had it on my hisense sero 7 tab as well.

Is that a wet or dry application?
I have the Asus official ones. I'm pretty sure all plastic ones will thwart electrical signals in some way. The only one that won't is that glass one.
Although the issue is such a rare occurrence that I can't justify spending another $20-$30 bucks to perfect. I'm pretty sure its normal.

Hi guys, anyone of you is facing an issue with the screen wiggling while you are scrolling the screen with your finger touching the screen?

Yes. Lower third of the screen does this on all s7 edge I tried. And I have personally tried at least 5. Which leads to conclusion that they all do it. It is easiest noticeable if you set browser on desktop and try to scroll slowly.
Annoying, but have somewhat gotten used to it. I try not to think about it, otherwise ocd kicks in.
Also if yore in testing menu, you can notice that if you pull the line slowly, bottom third will look more wiggly than top section.
I suppose there's no adequate shielding in this section, and something is making the screens behave this way.

i would love to know whether this is a software bug or a hardware issue. There are not many reports or complaints on this found on the internet. It would be great to let Samsung have a look at this issue.
By the way, thanks for your reply. Due to the lack of complaints on this issue on the internet, i thought my unit is one of the few that are affected.
I believe lack of complaints is due to a fact that most screens if not all have been formated in a way that there is no side scrolling. Which is why in a browser showing mobile view you will never see the wobble. Also due to variations between handsets (some show wobble more and some less), even the apps and screens that have side scroll, and even free floating (like browser in desktop mode), most people will fail to spot it. Also note that on all phones I tested this on, it is only lower third of the screen that seems affected (some people use 2 hands and upper part of the screen when scrolling).
Which leads to speculation that it is a hardware issue. Either lack of shielding ( from wireless charging coil for example), or while gluing digitizer to the screen, or digitizer losing a connection somewhere. On software side, things can be minimized (they already did with the first update on this phone, because I can tell you for certain that the issue used to be worse. I never clicked on so many advertisements in my life, as I did while my brand new phone, just released, interpreted scrolling as a tap on the lower third) but I doubt they can be eliminated completely.
