My camera can't focus, its like its stuck in micro, i think this started after kitkat. Had root before kitkat after i installed it. I tried factory reset any other suggestions. I don't want to downgrade to 4.3 to check. And is this because the software or hardware. Front camera is ok.
Note 3 with latest update.
The square doesn't get green as much as I try

Hi everyone.
I have encountered a problem on my phone's rear camera with the latest ROM upgrade, which upgraded my android version fom 4.2.2 to 4.3:
I9505XXUEMJ7_I9505BTUEMJ8_BTU
The problem is that I get a dark display (black screen, see the attached screenshot) and the whole phone gets stucked and its performance is slowed down due to that. After about a minute or to of freezing phone I Finally get a warning - Camera Failed.
I tried to wipe twice (both cache partition and user data), prior to and after flashing, and also tried to reflash the same rom again. Didn't work out for me, or at least works once right after wiping and then fails again. Seems like a heavy bug in 4.3, unstables the camera due to the new firmware.
Has anyone had that same problem or reported on it or it's just me? What should I do now?
Thanks.
When you open the camera, did you get a camera firmware update?

Yes, that was in the first time that opened the built-in camera app after flashing the newest firmware. I proceeded with the update and then all that mess started. But since then I have reflashed and didn't get that message once more to confirm/approve.
Is there a way to downgrade the camera's firmware to the one used in 4.2.2? It really worked really well for me prior to that so called "upgrade"...
Another question: When (roughly) should I9505 models recieve the 4.3.1 update? Is it scheduled to be soon?
Having the same issue (also with other Camera apps like Barcode Scanner, Paper Camera & Optical Reader). If I wait I end up with a "camera fail" message.
UPDATE: Just upgraded to MK8 version using Kies - and the problem persists!
This month's (november) update implies that Samsung are yet to resolve this bug. Does someone know how should I report them about the problem? Is there a website or a social network page that they actually check up on a regular basis?
Thank you.
Hi! I have a really nasty problem with the camera on my Galaxy S4 i9505. The camera doesn't focus. If I try to focus, the square turns red and if I try to focus again the camera app freezes. I've tried to install a new Rom, original and custom, I've tried to downgrade form 4.4.2 to 4.3, I've tried another camera app, I've tried to clear all data, factory reset and the most important I've changed the camera and still doesn't work. The only app where camera works is Optical Reader. What can I do more to fix it? Please, help me!
Thank you!
Anyone?
Seems like you've tried everything I would personally try.
The only suggestion I have is re-installing stock firmware via odin opposed to custom roms? As in go to the official Samsung firmware pages and download the version of your choice which will completely clear everything. Perhaps that could fix the bug? Just be sure to back everything up (Contacts, files) to a pc as it wipes all previous data.
Let me know your opinions
I've already tried to flash stock firmware with Odin, from Sammobile. I've only managed to flash 4.4.2 and not 4.3 because of the Knox.
No one encountered this problem?
have you tried the google camera?
Yes, i have tried Google Camera and it is the same.
Seems like your phone has some hardware or camera firmware issues
Yes, camera firmware maybe. But...I did not found any camera firmware to change the current one.
Ever since I made the jump from Beanstalk to 4.4.4+ roms, my front-facing camera hasn't worked.
I flashed to SlimKat (7.0 and 7.8 weekly) and had no front-facing camera and data issues. I flashed a new modem and Kernel but to no avail.
I then had issues with sound (not having any) and reverted back to beanstalk and flashed MF9 back onto it. I was told that I "messed up [my] modem / LTE drivers and bootloader," and to "google it"... Didn't find much.
I then gave up and decided to move over to Alucard CM12 and eventually just vanilla CM12 , but none of them would work!
I even flashed every single modem from here and it did nothing.
Today I got really frustrated and flashed the entire stock firmwares of MF9, MDC, and MDL. and when those didn't work, I allowed auto-update to do its thing and update to the latest firmware as some people were saying this worked (I don't even care about KNOX anymore), but it didn't help.
And yes, I've tried all the tricks like wipe cache, clear camera app data, etc.
PLEASE HELP x__x
I just used this guide to manually unplug and re-plug my front-facing camera module... Cleared app data and did factory reset, and still not working... The camera module itself looks fine (so does the ribbon cable... I could buy a new camera module and test it out, but I'm still pretty sure this is a software issue somehow.
I just rooted my phone via TWRP and my logcat for the issue is attached.
I would be very greatful for any and all help, as I'm getting married and going on my honeymoon in less than 2 weeks and want to take lots of pictures without snatching my wife's phone from her.
Hi people:
I bought a Xperia X Compact 2 weeks ago. It seems to be a "journalist and commercial" terminal, as it came with version 6.0.1 of Android and did not allow updates via OTA.
I've used FlashTool to put another version of Firmware, the 7.1.1, and everything looks perfect, until I'm going to make a photo.
In the screen is observed to make the photo and I see the "picture" to take, but the touch button of the screen is not working. From that moment, the mobile starts to spend a lot of battery and the photo is not done. If you force the camera to front, a photo comes out completely in green.
I've put ROM 6.0.1 (Journalist and Commercial) back in, but the camera no longer works.
I have not done root.
EDITED:
Sorry. I lost DRM and the problem solved when I install patched Kernel. Problem is solved and I have 7.1.1 "with" DRM.
Thank you for your help
I have the same problem now , anyone know how to repair it
I might be having exactly the same problem. How did you get (and install) the patched kernel?
Thanks.
I've unlocked bootloader and installed a couple of ROMS (OmniRom, Paranoid Android) with TWRP. When reverting back to stock, and relocking bootloader, the camera has stopped working. When I open the camera app, the image shows but when I click the shutter button, all screen buttons disappear, and the picture is not taken. The front camera only takes dark green rectangles as pictures.
I've tried flashing stock marshmallow with flashtool (and updating from there), flashing 7.1.1 directly, using Xperia Companion to repair, resetting to factory, again unlocking and installing other ROMs... To no avail.
Please note that the camera works in OmniRom, only with reduced quality.
Thanks for all help.
