Can't get front camera to work! (logcat now enclosed) - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Ever since I made the jump from Beanstalk to 4.4.4+ roms, my front-facing camera hasn't worked.
I flashed to SlimKat (7.0 and 7.8 weekly) and had no front-facing camera and data issues. I flashed a new modem and Kernel but to no avail.
I then had issues with sound (not having any) and reverted back to beanstalk and flashed MF9 back onto it. I was told that I "messed up [my] modem / LTE drivers and bootloader," and to "google it"... Didn't find much.
I then gave up and decided to move over to Alucard CM12 and eventually just vanilla CM12 , but none of them would work!
I even flashed every single modem from here and it did nothing.
Today I got really frustrated and flashed the entire stock firmwares of MF9, MDC, and MDL. and when those didn't work, I allowed auto-update to do its thing and update to the latest firmware as some people were saying this worked (I don't even care about KNOX anymore), but it didn't help.
And yes, I've tried all the tricks like wipe cache, clear camera app data, etc.
PLEASE HELP x__x

I just used this guide to manually unplug and re-plug my front-facing camera module... Cleared app data and did factory reset, and still not working... The camera module itself looks fine (so does the ribbon cable... I could buy a new camera module and test it out, but I'm still pretty sure this is a software issue somehow.
I just rooted my phone via TWRP and my logcat for the issue is attached.
I would be very greatful for any and all help, as I'm getting married and going on my honeymoon in less than 2 weeks and want to take lots of pictures without snatching my wife's phone from her.

[Q] Both cameras not working

Bought an S4 last week. Everything looked good, I tested the sound, vibrate, gps etc and it all checked out. However, stupid me didn't check the camera (I know I know).
So the whole phone seems to run fine, but the camera (front and back) can't be accessed by stock or 3rd party applications. (Usually "warning Camera Failed" or something similar). I've factory reset, cleared cache and everything. I even installed the nandroid backup from a working phone, but the camera gives the same issue.
Because it's both cameras I thought it had to be software, but after all the resets and cache clears I'm starting to lean toward hardware.
Can someone give me an idea where to start? Would it be camera connectors or motherboard? Is there a sensor that may be causing this? I'd like to get an idea before I start gutting my phone.
Thanks.
Try this if it works for you?

If this does not help, clear RAM with a ram cleaner and try starting the app again?
If that does not help either..flash stock rom via oding
If that does not help..turn the phone off..charge till 100%..turn the phone on..clear the ram..and start camera..

Had this same issue a while back. What solved it for me was to re-flash the stock firmware. I too tried a nandroid backup, it didn't work but the flash did.
Turns out it was software related.
I installed a few stock firmwares that didn't fix anything. I didn't want to wait the 2 hours to download for free from Sammobile.com, but eventually i bit the bullet and got the appropriate (latest) version of my phone. After the reboot it was solved.
Granted, I tried many different firmwares, and some had the same name as the official firmware that i downloaded from sammobile but it did the trick.
Thanks for the pointers

Struggling with CyanogenMod 11
I installed last night with Philz recovery (most recent version), factory reset, wiped cache and dalvic cache first. Things appeared to be running smoothly initially but I realize I don't have any sound (DSP manager crashes when I open it or when I open Apollo). I'm not able to answer or make phone calls. I'm pretty new at this - do I need to update my modem? I know Knox got installed (0x1) and the baseband version says mk2. Is there a ROM that would work better for my phone? Can I install rom that say NAE and NG2? I'm just looking for something that's stable and has great battery life. Or is there something I'm doing wrong with Cyanogenmod?
Here's info in the about phone page:
SPH-L720
11-20141008-SNAPSHOT-M11-jflte
4.4.4
L720VPUEMK2 (baseband)
Kernel 3.4.104-cyanogenmod-gc55a5d6 etc
CPU ARMv7
Memory 1809 MB
Please help.
A second thorough wipe may be worthwhile. Otherwise download a fresh cm copy as the other may have gotten corrupted. Reload and reflash.

I got the same thing when I was using the front facing camera today. Took one picture then FC. Had to reboot to connect again.
Probably the fastest rom iv tried. But WiFi signal comes and go. Some applications close by then self. And the voice recording is terrible.
SIM problems
Is there any way to use CM12 without having a SIM card inserted because it won't allow the phone to connect to any network even though I've ben using my phone on Boost Mobile for almost a year now.
I'm running TWRP and the 2/8 nightly, I've been unable to access my developer options since the flash, even with factory reset before and after flash. Also having issues with the camera, seems to only want to take a few photos before it just stops capturing and force closing, leading to "unable to connect to camera". Any thoughts on the dev options issue?

same thing here I got the rom today and it was working perfectly but then I tried switching to record video and it froze and closed. Now when I try to open it, it say "can't connect to camera" any solution?
Camera Won't Work
Everything was running smooth but then I decided to record a video so after taking a few pictures I switched to video record. It frozee for a second and then closed the program. I clicled on camera again and a message popped up saying:
"Camera error
Can't connect to the camera."
I have CyanogenMod Version:
12-20150226-NIGHTLY-jfltespr
I tried closing disabling the camera app but no luck.
Move from CM12 nightly to Lollipop Stock Rooted
Greetings!
I've been running the Cyanogenmod 12 nightly build 12-20150224-NIGHTLY-jfltespr on my S4 (baseband L720PUFNG2) with ClockworkMod 6.0.4.7 installed. I've been experiencing some battery issues and miss features included in the stock Samsung ROMs, such as a working IR blaster and multiwindow support, and would like to move from CM12 to a stock AND ROOTED configuration. I have a few questions:
1) Where do I obtain the *correct* ROM to flash? I'd like Samsung's stock rooted Lollipop, *if possible*.
2) Do I run TriangleAway FIRST, and then flash, or flash, and THEN run TriangleAway?
3) After I flash the stock ROM, am I safe to recover user apps AND system data with Titanium Backup, or should I simply start fresh, being spring and all?
4) What about KNOX? Will it complain/cause issues/take off and nuke the entire site from orbit?
BTW, I *have* searched these forums, but there's almost an ocean of data to sift through even so, and most of my results date from 2013/2014. I don't want to get this wrong, as this is my only phone, and I've already softbricked for a day (no PIT found!), and want to avoid that happening again if possible.
I'll keep hunting for what I want on my own, but any help you geniuses here can provide would be.... well, helpful.
Thanks!
Did you make a nandroid backup of your stock ROM before you went down the custom ROM route?

No, and that answer probably means, apart from "do a nandroid backup next time, idiot", that I have to do a full wipe and can't restore my user data. I'm actually fine with that, as I don't really have any information on my phone that isn't already attached to my Google account or otherwise stored in the cloud.
What are the consequences beyond losing my data because I didn't do a Nandroid backup, if any?
And where do I get the stock ROM, etc.?
I see a bit of a green tint after latest updates (03/08 and 03/11).

well not making a nandroid could be bad because you could have a bad flash and soft brick and all u have left is download and/or recovery mode and u can always go back to having a functioning phone with your backup. And plus running cm12 u could restore your back up and update your prl and profile then restore your cm12 or do the same for a gps lock. Always make a back up man. U can get the stock touch wiz by either searching the forum for it which I'm sure it's here or u can go to sammobile type in sph-l720 and download the current stock tar file then re root and make a back up of stock before u even delete any bloat that way u will always have a completely stock back up.

Installed the 3/28 nightly last night and really digging it. I don't use it as a phone so I won't be able to test that aspect. About the only bug I've come across is that Falcon Pro 3 Twitter client can't play Youtube videos inside the app. Works on stock Lollipop. Not a biggie but thought you guys might want to know about it. NFC seemed to work great when I used it during initial setup. Camera pics and video looks great. Will try testing Bluetooth with file transfers to Nexus 7 (2013) tablet later. I'll try to report any other issues I encounter in this thread. Thanks for the really excellent work.
Edit: Well, I just played a YouTube video within Falcon Pro 3 (from The Verge Twitter account) and it played flawlessly. So that last attempt was either a borked link or who knows?
I am having the same issue with 13., moving back to 12 trying a new download.

Haven't found one other than buying a new phone haha! Still using the S4 but can't figure out the problems

Camera Not Recording (log inside)

Greetings,
The camera on my Note 3 is not working for video recording (taking pics works fine). I have switched a lot of roms and kernels on it, but I noticed the camera app would not record and, instead, show me a "Warning: Recording Error" followed by a force close and, usually, a reboot.
I decided to switch back to stock Lollipop to see if this would revert it, but it didn't work.
The phone specs and other info:
SM-9005
Currently on official Lollipop from Brazil (N9005VJUGBOD5_N9005ZTOGBOD4_ZTO from sammobile)
Stock kernel
These are the things I did to try and fix this, not in order:
1- Changed kernels
2- Changed roms (always wiping everything but internals on recovery before doing so)
3- Cleaned cache
4- Cleaned camera cache
5- Tried google camera app instead of the official camera app (it did not FC, but while it said it was recording, it would never save a video file of it)
6- Did a factory reset on the stock rom
7- Updated modem and bootloader with the files on the Aryamod thread
8- Tried removing the SD card completely
9- Tried reseating the SD card
10- Tried changing to internal card in the camera app
11- Changing recording resolution options
Last custom rom I had was the Omega Rom. First Lollipop rom I installed was the official (non leaked) Poland rom, and I did not use a pit file back then (as, according to the thread this was featured it, that file was meant only for users coming from the leaked lollipop rom).
This is the log from the camera bugging out in the Omega Rom:
http://pastebin.com/TkCA2KbT
I took a second one for precaution:
http://pastebin.com/1exMLTk3
This is not a hardware problem as it worked on KK. The problem persists on the official rom I just installed. Also, the SD card has a lot of space available, as does the internal memory.
Also, not sure if this is relevant, but most kernels give me a bootloop, exception being the Omega kernel and the Darkqueen. I also *may* have flashed by accident a rom based on Cyanogen at some point, but my memory is very fuzzy on this. I think that this wouldn't matter as I wipe everything before putting a new rom in, anyway (and if I did that, the new and now correct rom I put after that wouldn't leave any traces of this accident).
I have no idea what else to do to fix this.
I have exactly the same problem. I have a ZTO Note 3 with the same problem as well, sometimes the whole android crashes after I try to record it.
The whole problem began after I installed the Omega Rom, I used CM12.1 for quite some time and the camera record correctly. I am not sure if you managed to wipe the whole thing by using the TWRP, but once I did, I found out that it was a MTO problem, which I searched about and it was nothing major.
Did you manage to fix the problem?
Maybe install latest bootloader?
Try changing the camera app video resolution back to 1080P - there's been a number of people had problems with UHD mode.
It's quite possible that BL and Modem flash will not work unless you turn the phone off and then go into DL mode for an Odin flash - rebooting into DL mode doesn't let them flash. So maybe once you went to a ROM that had the UHD issue, you haven't fully come back to stock?

Sorry for the time taken, I flashed the Omega Rom once again using TWRP, and then I flashed the bootloader and modem recommended for such rom using Odin, but the problem still continues. And I have tried change resolutions, storage and everything possible, the problem still continues.
Funny thing is, I thought it was the back camera problem, it could take photos but it freezes during video recording. Once I tried the front camera, the same problem happens as well, it does take pictures, but it does not record.
I am getting a little desperate now, I have a feeling that the omega rom made such problem but as of yet it did not fix said problem! What should I do?

Video not recording
Do you have a link to the kernel and has anyone else tried this? I'm also having the same problem with the video recording not working and I'm not sure what to do about it.

I'm having exact same problem
I'm also having this exact same problem with my N9005 Note 3. Its running Lollipop but i don't really much about roms as i bought it used from some shop. Everything works fine both cameras take pictures but video recording doesn't work at all. Also i downloaded a screen roader app and its videos are also not recorded. When i finish recording them and go to gallery it says File Corrupted. Please anyone got fix of this problem yet?
So I solved it by:
Using Odin 3.11.1
I have already tried Factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, flashed the latest stock Lolipop or older lollipop with ODin and nothing solved the problem.
So I tried to flash the latest stock lolipop with Odin and marking checked (Auto Reboot , F. Reset Time , Phone EFS clear, Phone Bootloader update).
I suspect that the Phone EFS clear did the trick. It's function is related to the modem and radio of the phone. And clearly the modem has a problem here.
I hope this will help anybody out there having this issue.
This problem happened after trying to flash lollipop using FlashFire app to reserve the root that I had in my previos Android KK 4.4.2.
Phone: Galaxy Note3 N9005 Malaysian
Hi everybody,
@hayder78,
I tried to do the same to fix the issue: flash with the last firmware available for my region code (XEF - N9005XXUGBOK6) using Odin 3.11.1 and the same options (Auto Reboot , F. Reset Time , Phone EFS clear, Phone Bootloader update) but I still have the issue.
@Fenrir007
Did you manage to fix the issue using the same method?
I had the same issue with a 6.0.1 ROM (MagMa-NX UX8.5) on my Note 3 N9005. Any attempt to record video merely resulted in a "recording failed" message after about a second.
I thought I had installed a recent bootloader and modem using Odin 3.11.1, but although I did it twice I had used a "Reboot to Download" restart and for some reason that does not seem to have taken properly - although I have no idea why, all the display messages said it had worked.
So I have just done a full (remove battery and then three-finger power-up) boot into Download as advised in this thread, and then sent the same BL_N9005XXSGBQA1 and CP_N9005XXUGBOJ2 files to the phone via Odin, and now video recording works fine.
So when people say clean boot into Download, they do actually mean it. Thanks folks!
Oh, and I did NOT need to tick the "clear EFS" option, which seemed a rather risky thing to try so I was avoiding it as long as I could.

G900I - 3 different custom ROM's all give 'Can't connect to the camera', stock works?

Hey everyone
Having a really weird problem here where I cant get the camera to work on my G900I kltedv Vodaphone AU S5.
So I had my first S5, rooted it, installed TWRP, wiped it, installed the latest CM12.1 nightly, and this worked perfectly. Encryption worked, camera worked. Awesome.
Bought the exact same phone the next day (G900I, kltedv VodaAU) and followed the exact same proccess. But for some reason, I went to launch the camera after everything was done and the camera gave me the error "Cant connec to the camera"
After not being able to fix it, I flashed the phone back to stock. The camera works fine on stock. I then proceeded to try 3 different roms (Vrtoxin, CM13 unofficial, Cm12.1 nightly) and all 3 give me the same camera error. I always wipe everything before and after install to make sure its clean.
Dont understand why the camera works fine on one phone but not this one? Really not sure what to do here or how to troubleshoot this but I REALLY need to fix this as I bought this phone for CM basically.
Please help me!

Camera error! Hardware or Software problem?

Hey guys, need your help! I've flashed a lot of roms on different phones before, but this is the only time something didn't get fixed by returning to stock ROM flashed via ODIN.
So here's what happened. I was on this ROM for my W8 canadian Note 4: https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-tmobile/development/note4uxs7edge-t3416225
Everything worked smoothly and I installed the N7 camera zip file included. My camera worked perfectly but I decided to flash the N4 zip in the thread via TWRP.... Suddenly BOOM! "Server Error. Restart camera". Now no matter what I do, the rear camera won't connect, even after a full wipe and ODIN'd back to stock W8 ROM!
Is this just a coincidence that my camera hardware failed or do you guys think it's corrupted camera firmware?
