WiFi patch for NC1 4.4.3 bootloader - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I have spent some weeks with a new NC1 GS4 bootloader. Are developers working on a way to fix the issue with Knox preventing WiFi driver from loading?
I see patches for 4.3 floating around but not 4.4.
This is a real issue. Just wanted to know if developers are aware of it and if anyone is working on a patch we can flash via Odin?
I have another gs4 with mdj boot loader and I have no issues at all with WiFi not loading on boot.

What exactly are you having issues with? If you mean getting Wi-Fi on a 4.4.2 ROM with the NC1 bootloader, all you need to do is flash the kernel modules for whatever kernel you're on in Safestrap. Other than that I don't know what other issue you'd have.

It looks like safe strap on works on at&t and Verizon. Do you experience any WiFi issues on you setup with safe strap?

No, I haven't had any issues unless it was broken in the ROM itself. For you I'd recommend using ODIN to flash NB1 first though, and hopefully that would fix your problem. Then you can OTA back to NC1 or downgrade to MK2 for root.

I have a Canadian unlocked boot loader fw are different for me. Unfortunately I can only downgrade to NC1 ATM which comes with 4.4.2. I did try upgrading to NE1 but issue was still there once I rooted and custom so I decided to downgrade back to NE1.

So I found solution to my problem. If you have a new boot loader 4.4.2 and you want a stable custom ROM with WiFi, then a custom touch wiz ROM is what you need to install preferably a custom ROM based off of the same fw as installed bootloader. I guess the issue is Asop and GE ROMs were never designed to work with a unlocked Knox bootloader ? I find that this these pure android roms have wifi issue not working intermittently.
Buyer beware: intermittent WiFi issue on Knox boot loader is solved by flashing a custom touch wiz ROM based on boot loader fw.
If your thinking about buying a new gs4 with knox boot oader be sure that your okay with living with touch wiz custom ROMs but if you don't care about working WiFi then your still free to flash pure android.
Hopefully this changes in the future

Upgrading to 4.4 kit Kat

Hey guys quick question my n4 is rooted and running cm10.1.3. I never bothered to upgrade to 4.3, so my radio, kernel and bootloader are stock 4.2.2. Is it better to get the ota update and be up on things or flash stock kernel, boot loader and radio for 4.4 when ever there available? Or maybe factory image?

Just flash the stock images for kit Kat when they are available, right now back up all your data

my friend as this will pop up all over the forum the best thing to do is just wait for a rooted version to show up. I did not upgrade my bootloader and I have not had any issues with 4.3 which mind you is a great running OS you should try it.
I dont understand having root then unrooting to flash stock which you obviously dont like since you run cm and then wait to root it all over again to back an upgraded rooted version of cm...

Question on the way for the custom recovery+kernel guys on 4.3 what is the best to upgrade besides wiping your entire phone and flashing the stock images entirely?.
I think i know 2 ways just not sure they are recommended, 1st is flashing stock kernel + returning recovery to stock (should get OTA)
2nd is flashing only the system.img and the bootloader me thinks.
Feel free to verify this.

You make a lot of sense ,its more of curiosity and so I won't brick my nexus. So I can get away with not upgrading my bootloader for 4.4?
What about kernel, do I need to update that for 4.4 or is that judgement call?

you are asking questions that trial and error are going to figure out for us. Kernels of course if you are on a 4.4 rom you would use a 4.4 kernel. Upgrading your bootloader may or may not be needed but we wont know until kitkat starts popping. everyone said you needed to upgrade bootloader for 4.3 but I have never had any issue at all.... Just wait it out and read read read

Not to sure but as long as you're on stock ROM and stock kernel you should be fine although I don't know if custom recovery keeps you from getting update.

Absolutely bro
You do have to be on stock recovery, stock bootloader for the update to go thru properly otherwise it'll fail.

If you are still on stock rom and you just have custom kernel+recovery, U could do the following for not using any current apps or files.
- Wait till your favorite Toolkit (e.g Wug) get updated for 4.4 and then download the official factory rom.
- Extract it and keep all separate zips, like radio, bootloader, system etc.
- Unroot and flash stock kernel
- Flash all previous zips, EXCEPT user.img which will delete everything
- Reroot and U r ready to flash again custom kernel
Maybe a noob question but my n4 is rooted. Will this cause any problems withe the update?

The original stock kernel of 4.3 is on the bootloader.img on the google source code aye?
Thanks, now we just need to wait for the official 4.4 on google's developers.

Hello,
My phone has already had the radio upgraded to latest so it can run 4.3. I am rooted, have TWRP 2.6.3.0, will I be ok to flash the PA 4.4 and gapps? I keep posts about folks losing their sdcard data and their custom recovery being removed (not sure how!).
Thanks.

I'm sure that radio doesn't affect your ability to flash certain ROMs so you shouldn't have a problem flashing 4.4. As far as losing SD data not sure how that's happening.

[i9505] No sound

Hey guys, ever since I've installed Android 4.3, stock and custom, I'm not getting any sound.
Not through my earphones or through my speaker.
I've re flashed this phone like six times in two days because it wouldn't boot at all after first flashing 4.3.
Any help is much appreciated.

The only way to fix this as far as I know is to flash the complete official firmware package via Odin. Then you can proceed to install a custom 4.3 ROM but you may have issues if you use a pre-KNOX firmware.

That's what I did. I flashed stock 4.2.2 and then installed CarHDROM 7.1
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You may need to flash stock 4.3 full firmware (sadly you will get the KNOX bootloader) to resolve this.

Yep. This exactly what happened to me. Lost sound and wifi. Had to flash latest leaked version 4.3 Via odin, then root it via odin, install titanium backup , delete all that knox ****, install custom recovery, then you can really start playing with your phone.. eg.. custom roms, kernels etc.. hope this helps
Similar Problem!
Hi, I'm having similar problems I have no sound at all coming from the device, I've read most threads that say no sound on the heading for I9505 and for many people flashing I9505XXUDMH8_I9505OXXDMHA_I9505XXUDMH8_HOME.tar resolved the problem but not in my case.
Last night I tried flashing I9505XXUEMI8_I9505OXAEMI8_I9505XXUEMI8 and after I changed the kernel I got some sound when turning the volume up and down but the phone was running very slow.
Today I tried flashing Omega rom v15 flashing the right modem for the new bootloader before flashing the zip and no sound, I tried changing the kernel, still nothing.
So now I'm in build number XXUEMJ9 and baseband MJ5.
I've also tried flashing stock with a pit file but didn't make a difference!
Thanks!
I've fixed the problem by flashing 4.2.2 stock and have been using it since.
Just rooted my phone. All other ROMs just don't work

I'm Looking For A Custom Kitkat 4.4.2 Rom For My S4

I am looking for a custom KitKat rom 4.4.2. All the ones I'm finding will not flash successfully. The one I did find was messing up my phone modem (radio) and it was causing dropped calls and EDGE connection problems so I flashed it back to stock. I want a new custom rom without this issue that is rooted with Wifi/tethering.
I have the Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-I337 model with AT&T.
I appreciate any help it I can get with this!

If you take the time to read like most of us have. You will find out that you can't flash custom rooms if you are on kit kat until devs find exploit, which is going to be very hard.

From what he says you could tell he is either on mk2, nb1 or NC1 which the bootloader is lock down and as most of us know we can only flash Tw roms.

Op, can you tell us what firmware version you're on?

[Q] Omega ROM 7.0 New Bootloader issue

Hi im wondering if anyone else is having this issue. I just flashed Omega rom 7.0 with no problems but then i flashed the new bootloader using Odin and it was successful too but for some reason when i check the bootloader version its still the old one.
I figured it out. Make sure to power down completely first and then boot into download mode and then flash thru Odin that way.

What is all about that new bootlader? Do I need to flash it? What has changed?
Thank you!
If you want to use the stock kernels you have to flash the new bootloader. Things like screen casting to a smart TV can only be done with stock kernels.

[Q] About MF3 and updating

I'm on 4.2.2 mf3 with root and safestrap installed. Just wondering if there was anyway I could update my phone to 4.3+ maybe by flashing a custom ROM? I don't have access to a computer so I can't flash Odin files to update. Am I forever stuck with 4.2 until I can get access to a computer?

You can always go with the stock touch wiz Golden Eye custom Rom to get you to 4.4.x. It works with safe strap.
Since you are rooted, you can probably use Mobile ODIN to flash ODIN files without a PC, if it will work with safestrap, I am not sure or not.
You might want to check the General Forum too, there might be an update .zip file you can use with safe strap to get you to 4.4.x
Wouldn't I have to update my MF3 baseband? And would I have to flash it over my stock ROM slot? AFAIK mobile Odin doesn't work with the att variant of the s4. So I can flash any ROM compatible with safestrap regardless of whether its 4.2 or 4.4?
