[Q] Mainboard swap - From i9505 to Sch-r970 - Troubles - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I live in italy, a friend of mine took me his i9505 after he dropped it in the wc, i tried to repair it, passed on ultrasonic cleaner, tested the board, but it was clearly fried
Trying to find a cheap solution i found a bid on the bay from the USA for a n ESN clean mainboard, and bought it
It arrived today, found it is a SCH-R970 board, tried to replace it but realized it did not fit into the screen chassis. had to dremel a corner (lower right) for the board to get in properly.
The same for the ribbon cable that comes from the button and the mic/loudspeaker, the connector is slightly dislocated (2mm) towards right.I managed to get it connected in order to test the phone and noticed everything ok but 2 big problems:
The first is that the capacitive buttons (back and menu) do not light up nor work, And second problem is that it i put a sim in it prompts me for the pin, but after i enter it, pops up a "unable to detect your sim card, your device will restart to check for your sim card" and pressing ok restarts the telephone
At boot it shows the "cricket" logo
Do the buttons stay off due to firmware issues?
Is there anything i can do, to get it working here in italy
Thank you

screen just shows lines

anyone know how/where to get an xda mini II repaired? i'm in italy, but i can careless where it has to go. I'm at the point where i would rather just sell the device for it's workable parts (if there are any)...Today the screen has done a myraid of interesting things...anywhere from blank to thousands of vertical lines....ugh...
ohh yeah...warranty is void....or is time to just move on?
ok...no answers so i thought i would add some images ...anyone seen this before?
Mate i had a similar **** up a while back ...I did a HR and it worked fine..for me it was caused by a Overclocking software [Dnt want to Name it ]
If this dnt work try the Batt out and back in trick
Call ur Local service Center...
mine looks exactly teh same! but it happened after i tried to replace my housing, i screwed up the little gold prongs where the ribbon connector from the lcd plugs in...****! any ideas on how to fix? im the us so service center isnt really an option, and id ont want to send it off.
hi i had the same problem with my magicians, after i changed the housing. i found the problem with my device was that i had not plugged the screen back in properly. all i did was to ensure that it was pushed in properly before i clipped it back in
Menappi -
I had the exact same issue. I reopened the casing WITHOUT disconnecting any cables. I flipped the screen's ribbon black lock up, while maintaining pressure on the ribbon so that it does not pop out. When the black lock lifted, the preasure of my finger moved the ribbon further in . I pushed the black lock down, reassembled the device and ... PRESTO!! the screen works perfectly... and chumps on the bard advised to buy a new screen!!
Good luck
Hi All,
seems, you have problem somewhere in display connector. However, sometimes I see similar picture on physically broken displays, let's imagine, you were careful ad didn't use a hammer during housing replacement.
There are two possibilities: at first - try to remove and re-insert display cable (I hope, you know. how brown lock works). If there is no success - try again. At second - some wire on flat cable may be damaged. Sometimes, good technician with soldering iron can fix it, sometimes not. And if you used force, removing cable, board connector may be damaged too. However, only the experienced man can find it easily.
So, try to carefuly re-insert display cable. Try several times. If you are unsuccessful, you, for sure, need an experienced technician to fix your device.
I hope, you are not enough mad to send device for repair to Russia

The SIM card is missing

my phone broken so i replaced lcd.
Now when I put sim in, it says SIM CARD IS MISSING or it takes forever and is stuck on searching for signal.
Any ideas?
IDEA!!!!
Broken Sim!
anybody?
Can't be a broken sim. Works fine in two other older phones I have. It's what i've been usning. I miss my MDA.
you can disassembly it again
and see if the sin socked pins are solded??? i dont have more ideas... just because of the falling and broken screen
They are. If I shake the phone, sometimes it works. But then I get the searching for signal endless loop..
Well it seems that its screwed up...
but maybe the socket is fine maybe... the anthena is unsolded or the green label for anthena has a little trash or something... but defineltly is hardware issue because the falling problem.
Okay, i tinkered with the phone this morning for the first time in over a week.
My findings:
The back cover where the camera / antenna when the phone fell I guess the clips broke off. It is no longer seated securely on the top (I can wobble it and remove it very easily)
When this moves the phone loses signal.

HELP! T-Mobile MDA screen going loco

Hi, peeps. Would like to ask for your assistance in troubleshooting my old T-Mobile MDA - the one that is also the Xda mini S.
The unit in question is 2nd hand although it was still in good shape when I got it. Used it for over a year already and has seen much use. Once, the insides got wet and I had to dry it out but it was okay after that. Although the keyboard wasn't showing any backlight until I figured out that a blowdryer would help remedy that situation (after careful dismantling).
Recently, the screen when you slide open the keyboard either comes up blank (whole screen is just white) or is discolored and a bit disaligned (the top part is either missing or is at the bottom of the screen). It happens too on the normal layout at times.
I upgraded the firmware with the most recent one I downloaded here last year. No problems experienced though with regards to the OS and not sure if the recent problem can be attributed to it.
Any ideas and suggestions?
I got the same problem on with the screen my Cingular 8125. When I slide the keyboard open, the exact same thing happens to my screen. Sometimes It only used to happen maybe once every 10th time, but as of last, it is happening all the time.
I spoke to someone at a repair store in Toronto and the guys said it will cost close to $100 to replace some wiring in the back. It didn't seem worth it for me so I got another phone instead, but I would love to keep using this phone if this could be replaced.
Hey guys. If you are comfortable, I would suggest dismantling the phone and taking a look at the ribbon connector between the board and the screen. My guess is that it is loose, or damaged. Reseat the ribbon and try again. Otherwise I would see if replacing the screen helped. Certainly much cheaper than a new phone...
Reseating
first of all check out the socket (on board) where the screen coaxial cord is plugged in , r all the connector pins alligned or are any bent / pulled back ?
in that case reset pins location using a tiny neidle or pin, also use a double faced adheisive tape on the back of the screen connector to rest it tight to keyboard (original setup only they use glue).
second check out if the screen does that if was flipped using software , if it was a hardware case and upper solution wouldnt help then check to see if the sliding mechanism (two plastic identical bars screwed by two screws each to the top and the buttom of the screen) are aligned and screwed tigh to the screen.
now the wizard hardware is a survivor but any tampering with it require tight reseating , screwing and later reflashing (even if the software showed unaffected).

[Q] I9505: No WCDMA/LTE after phone damage & repair

Hello,
I had my phone water damaged and repaired, but now my WCDMA/LTE doesn't work and I have some suspicions they had a faulty repair on my phone. Here's a timeline of the events to understand why"
1. Bought I9505 (I live in europe, hence the european version). All worked fine, had HSDPA (no 4g when I bought it 2 years ago, since my carrier didn't support it yet).
2. Did a small dent in the phone's screen (cracked glass in the upper corner, near proximity sensor, tiny piece of glass missing [1mm], but touch screen worked fine)
3. Dropped it in water while on vacation. Quickly took out battery, bought a bag of rice and held it in rice for ~20h, hoping the water would be absorbed.
4. Next day I fully charged then turned on my phone, it was connected to 3g, I was receiving facebook notifications, my mother called me at one point and ringtone was working. The only problem: touch screen didn't respond at all so I couldn't answer or unlock my screen.
5. Took it to a local service, they changed my screen (and did a full reset on my phone that I wasn't asked permission for - that I didn't understand why, but I thought who knows, maybe they needed it for the screen change). However, I wasn't upset since I was more interested in getting my touch screen to work, and it did.
6. HERE's THE PROBLEM: yes, they fixed my touch screen, but now i have to use it only in "GSM only" network mode, since the others don't work: whenever I choose any of the other options ("WCDMA/GSM, WCDMA only, WCDMA/GSM/LTE"), I lose signal completely, and I get "Not registered on network" message when trying to call. I should mention that APN setting are correct and I tried the SIM in another phone and it worked. I also tried another SIM in my phone and it didn't work.
7. Somehow I thought it might've been the water damage and I was ok (although upset) with it. But I searched the internet for answers since I thought maybe I'd fix my phone due to a software/bad config problem. I used ODIN to flash different versions of official firmwares with no success.
8. HERE's WHY I'm SUSPICIOUS: I found some piece of information that said the LTE/WCDMA(data) module is embedded in the display, not in the motherboard. Upon further research, i found the USSD code *#2663# that tells me the display is from a SGH-I337 (S4 model used in the US). Thus, if the data module truly is embedded in the display, that would render my data service useless, since the US frequency is not the same with EU frequency.
What do you guys think ?
Is it truly the display's fault or did I get erroneous information regarding the WCDMA/LTE ?
Am I entitled to negotiate with them because they put an incompatible component on my phone for a partial refund or is this my phone's fault ?
Is there any way to force the frequency somehow so my phone works (rooting & modifying some modem files maybe) ?
I'm sorry if I had some presumtious/loaded questions, but it's all information that I had from the internet.
Thank you for your patience to read all of this.
Do us a favor please? Enter download mode (Volume -, Home, Power) and read off the model number listed there. Reason being that I suspect your phone was totally replaced, with an AT&T model.
Did that just now, the product name says GT-I9505. The IMEI is also the same as before (checked with the product packaging it came with when I bought it). Could they have any way to overwrite this stuff ? Because your knack is not unfounded - under the battery, the IMEI/SN sticker seems to have been peeled and re-glued since it's wrinkly and misaligned.
Worst part is they're authorized Samsung service partners, that's the reason I went to them and not another service. (I can find them on the samsung website, when looking for service locations)
It sounds like they simply moved your motherboard into an AT&T midframe. I'd take it back to them posthaste and have them fix it properly. Because LTE isn't working, and it was before they did their work, they are responsible.

Touch screen unresponsive -> Inserted new LCD+digitizer -> touch screen unresponsive

Touch screen unresponsive -> Inserted new LCD+digitizer -> touch screen unresponsive
My friend's Galaxy S4 i9505 had a crack in the glass and he asked me if I could fix it, so I carefully separated the glass from the LCD and glued a new glass on it using Loca UV glue. At first glance the result was absolutely great, but when I powerd on the phone again, the touchscreen suddenly was unresponsive. After re-checking al connections over again and resetting the phone back to factory defaults, the touchscreen was still unresponsive.
We decided to order a new LCD + digitizer unit from a Chinese Ebay seller with 99% positive feedback. After about a week and a half it arrived and I moved over parts on to the new screen and installed it very carefully. After checking all connectios and booting up the phone I unfortunatly noted that the touchscreen was still not functioning.
Now I really don't know what to do anymore, since the new LCD's touchscreen (digitizer) can actually be a D.O.A. what I would find bad coincedence or there is some sort of problem with the phone's mainboard wich would be bad luck.
What do you guys think? I am really not sure now. I will probably contact the seller of the LCD and try if I can return it and he will send me a new unit (No money back guarantee :crying: )
Maybe there are some other options left? Any ideas, please?
EDIT: Problem solved. Repairguy discovered that a small chip on the mainbord was damaged. He replaced the chip and now the phone works like a charm.
I had a similar problem after replacing my entire front assembly housing (preassembled glass, digitizer, LCD, frame). After I got everything transferred over from the old one (vibration motor, front camera, earpiece, headphone, motherboard, antenna micro-coax cable, lower bezel control ribbon), hooked everything up, screwed rear housing back on, reinserted SIM card & SD card, reattached back battery cover, powered it back on-- then to my horror, there was ZERO touch input response on the touchscreen. Panicking for a few minutes, started planning on moving everything back to an old Android (S3) phone, then thought to try a reset first-- I pressed the up volume & power buttons, got into recovery mode, then selected "wipe cache partition", then selected "reboot". After it restarted (and holding my breath), VOILA it worked! Touch input was restored, Hallelujah!
Just commenting here so I remember where this thread is.....lol
I'm going to be replacing the screen on my son's S4 when he's saved up enough money to buy the replacement screen......
Does anybody know if (in general) ebay purchased screens are reliable?......
