Maybe it's just me, but, ever since the update, my phone is very laggy. The built in app manager consistently shows 1.2 gigs or more in use, even if I use the clean memory button. The home button is slow to respond, and apps don't scroll smoothly anymore. This is the official release by Verizon, and I can honestly say that I am not impressed by it. I have done a cache clear, and a master reset. Nothing has solved the issue.
Thank you in advance,

You're one of the few who is having issues with the update, most people are completely happy with it. Have you done a factory reset to see if that fixes your issues?

I've tried a complete factory reset, as well as a cache clear, still laggy. Thank you for your reply

You are not alone. Samsung was replacing the Note 3's with brand new replacements for people with major issues (per factory rep) until they decided this is a Verizon issue. The ATT and Sprint Note 3's are doing just fine as well as many Verizon units, however there are some major glitches for many of us with the Verizon build. I also performed cache clear and several factory wipes to no avail. (my main issue is with signal stability especially in fringe areas where I have ZERO coverage)
I just received a brand new - not refurb - replacement from Verizon after many conversations with Best Buy geek squad, Samsung and Verizon. Verizon will send you a brand new phone that will have Jellybean if you are persistent: :good:

Thank you for the info, I'm glad I'm not the only one having issues. I've never had any signal issues, if anything, my signal reception is better than it was before. I'll see about maybe getting a new handset, something has to change, I don't think I've ever had issues with an update, usually the phone was just bad out of the box...the photon being one of those...
Issues
I too am having issues. They are random, but they have repeated during different app use and in different areas. My stock browser will lock up the phone (only a battery pull clears it). My stock email app only opens 1/2 my folders and gives me errors when it tries to open pdf files. My screen gets laggy. It randomly adds letters to words I am trying to correct when typing on forums like this. My touch screen gets real inaccurate randomly. And randomly it loses 1/2 the screen when rotating from landscape to portrait (with multi window turned off). I have done the cache clearing multiple times and have done a factory reset as well...with no help. Such a shame, none of this happened before the update. It has turned this usable tool into a frustrating paperweight. I guess I will have to bounce this off of a Verizon rep's head and get a new one. I tried rooting before the update, but every rooting technique failed...then one night, after I told the update to delay...it updated anyway while I was sleeping.

New sprint rom?? http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=10293&page=3
http://download.america.htc.com/RUU_...PL106_Ship.exe
It's been confirmed. That is the new official ROM for Sprint. It fixes the Bluetooth issues among others. No Rev. A or GPS of course, but that was expected.
question is, is this really "better" than the alltel rom that has been available for a long time already over at PPCgeeks...
The alltel rom fixed the BT and alarm problem as well. I'm excited to see that Sprint finally caught up, but I'm wondering if this is better than the setup I currently have.
Well I for one am happy and upset.. I would like to see REV A , as I need the faster upload speeds for sending big files from my 4gb micro sd.
I havent tried the Alltel rom, but the new sprint rom fixes the keyboard lag + wm6 responsiveness problems.
After reading all of the threads over at PPCGeeks, it seems like there are some mixed results on the ROM (to be expected I guess, you can't appease everyone.)
-Most are reporting the BT fix worked correctly.
-I didn't see anyone say that the Alarm fix didn't work
-People are reporting that the OS seems a little faster and better at managing memory, such as reclaiming more when you close an app, etc.
-The radio version on the Sprint ROM is 1.47, compared to 1.40 of the Alltel, some were reporting better reception between this one and the stock rom (1.32 I believe)
-the most widely spread issue I saw was that some users were having issues with their dpad not working. At first, someone pinned it down to sprinttv, as it worked after they removed it, but then others said that the problem returned.
-YMMV, but some reported that when they skipped the sprint customization of the rom (when it starts initially, after the 3 second delay where you can soft reset) it caused issues on their phone. One person said that a workaround for this was to let it install EVERYTHING initially, and then do a hard reset and skip the customization process. It makes sense that if it were something with the EXTRom that it might put something in there that you needed, but again, not sure on this one.
-I can't believe how many people were stuck on the idea that they would be able to use Sprite Backup or SPB Backup to restore all of their stuff. Let me say this again, because I don't think it can be said enough. Unless you are just restoring folders such as your documents or something non-system related, you CANNOT use these programs. You WILL overwrite the new files with the old ones, causing a boatload of issues, if it even works at all. So don't do it, or you will cause yourself some headaches. Activesync remembers the apps you have installed, so just sync afterwards and click the boxes. For your other stuff such as contacts, back those up with a contact backup app or sync with outlook if you've got it.
just my two cents.

Just to clarify this is part. A hard reset will completely erase any carrier customizations there is absolutely no reason for installing extrom, hard resetting then skipping. Just start out with the hard reset, skip customizations and you'll be good to go.
Although there are still the other bugs with the update =)
Just installed it a while ago, skipped the sprint customizations, everything seems to be running good and actually noticeably quicker than before. New startup screen is cool too, no problems thus far =)
do yourself a favor and wait for the next rom. If you didn't already experiance it, your device will lock up and go to sleep requiring a soft reset...very unusable. and BT will turn off after a few minutes randomly.
load the colonel's rom on, it's much better imho
Seems to only happen to some people though. I have had my phone on pretty much straight since the rom update.
there seems to be a major bluetooth issue where the BT just shuts off periodically.. Not sure how,but they found a way to make bluetooth even worse!
I can't carry on a conversation without BT shutting off on me.. (or use the gps without it shutting off/etc..)

I haven't updated yet, plan to over the weekend, but I would suggest anyone having problems to stop and consider their setup first...
1. What programs are installed that could cause problems?
2. What registry hacks have been done that may cause problems?
3. What configuration settings might need reset that may cause problems?
For example, after a hard reset, Enhanced Network over USB is enabled by default, and this often causes Active Sync to have issues. Likewise, power management tweaks will have reverted to defaults and you may like a more finely tuned setup.
As for memory leaks being better/worse, you may have programs installed that are out of date/buggy.
I realize it's easier to jump on the "this sucks" bandwagon, but it doesn't help you or other users with legitimate problems when no consideration is given to what is causing a given problem.
These situations are precisely why the instructions tell you that EVERYTHING will be erased. This is a good thing since it forces you to clean house, but it also means you have to pay attention to those things you often neglect or may have changed ages ago and forgotten.
Finally, if all else fails, try the ROM update again. Sometimes things go wrong.
Sorry if this seems like a rant, I just want people having issues to place blame where it truly belongs. After considering these matters, if you still have problems, definitely let HTC and the rest of us know.
Best Regards,
Aaron

My experience is as simple and "vanilla" as it gets:
-Loaded new ROM
-Hard reset
-Stopped customizations
-Installed NO apps, did not turn on BT, made no calls, did nothing else
-3 DSODs in 4 hours
-Did a second flash (from a second computer with a freshly downloaded ROM)
-Hard reset
-Allowed customizations to run
-Again no apps, BT or calls
-DSOD within an hour

Sounds atypical to me, given that most users are updating without issue and experiencing better results. I have no reason to doubt your experience though... it sounds like you have faulty hardware, but here's a download link to the previous firmware if you're interested in trying it out first:
http://www.htcamerica.net/support/mogul/software-downloads.html
No, "most" users are not experiencing better results. I've been using this ROM with poor results, as have many others. Read this thread for many sad tales of woe:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=10302
Basically, the new ROM does fix a bunch of things, but breaks others, so I would not recommend installing this ROM.
1) Locks up when changing from Sprint to roaming. You can test this by manually switching from Sprint to roaming and back a few times, you WILL get a phone lockup.
2) BT turns off randomly for many users.
3) Turn on BT, let unit sit for a few minutes until it goes to sleep, turn unit back on, dpad no longer works. I have seen this myself many times.
Don't install this update --- use the Alltel ROM or wait for another update.

1) You're incorrect in stating that most users have no problems, etc. Some do, some don't. Read the posts at ppcgeeks, pdaphonehome, BAW, hofo. I am not at all alone in having problems.
2) I downgraded 2 days ago, and my Mogul runs fine again - just exactly like it did for the 1st 3 months I had it. It's not my hardware! It's a bad ROM release.
Not everyone uses the phone in the same way at all. So of course some people will not see the same problems that others do.
If you never use Bluetooth and never roam, then this ROM will work for you. Otherwise, it will cause problems. For me, Bluetooth works much better in 2.09, and I rarely if ever see lockups as I have with 2.16. So, I'm going with 2.09 for now. The alarm problem IS fixed in 2.16 but I never use alarms on my phone so it's not an issue for me. Freezes when roaming ARE a problem.

is colonels rom built on the alltel core rom? if so it may be our best bet as of now.
My G2 may be defective or is it this buggy?
I've actually had the phone reboot on me twice. It looked like a kernel panic like i'm used to on my nexus one with cyanogenmod nightly builds. not only that but i don't see any internet speed improvements in my area over the nexus one despite my area being HSPA+ deployed. I get about the same 800kbps-1.5mbps on both phones. Others in HSPA areas report >3Mbit.
I will also have some considerable lag issues and just plain hangups with switching applications that i never experienced on my nexus. Also I only get about 1.2ish gb of internal storage while othere report >2gb.
On the upside my hinge seems fairly solid and battery life is good. but those glaring issues have me wanting to return (get $ back) and go back to my nexus.
Did I get a lemon? Are others experiencing this as well?
Uhm... this forum is full of these complaints, how could you miss them all?
Here
And here
And here
And here

Experiencing the same issues. Phone just turns itself off. Poor to no reception in areas where my Vibrant and Nexus One get2-3 bars of 3g. Like the phone but it does have issues which some people are reluctant to see. Weird things happen when I deploy the keyboard. Return button does not work at times etc.
From one entire day with the phone I thought reception was weak as well. BUT I asked my wife if her TMO BBerry 9700 had dead spots in the same areas and sure enough she said yes.
I'll be double checking that tonight.... I'll be much happier if it's the network and not the phone.
A lot of users seem to be having these so don't worry you aren't alone.
I get absolutely NO reception in my room (basement lol), coincidently I also use my phone as an alarm and couldn't figure out why it always stuck itself in a boot loop more at night than during the day (which it did...up to five times).
ANYWAY, personally I cut on airplane mode at night and have no problems with the phone crashing and boot looping (G2 splash screen). Ive also installed Rom Manager and run "fix permissions" which has basically stopped the random fc's and crashes during the day. I cant remember if the fix permissions is root dependent as ive always had root when running it but it worked very well for me. Before permission fix my phone was fast but seemed to jerk and twitch going through screens, now it doesn't.
I haven't experienced the freaky ghost track pad issue and the non responding touch screen which caused me to have to lock and unlock the screen.
These might help until either someone can achieve permaroot or tee-mobe sends an ota.
I've had the same reception issues. Tech support told me to do a factory reset, but I don't see how that would help since I just got my second phone two days ago (first one bricked after a kernel panic). It has had these problems out of the box.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
So before the gingerbread update i was experiencing the nexus one touch screen issue. This issue would happen mostly when the phone would be charging or warm, and the y coordinate of the touch screen would be off by about an inch. (I would post a link to youtube but i can't yet... new member =/ ) So if you try to answer your phone while the defect was active, you couldnt, because touching the slider would be recognized as trying to touch the 'menu' key on the phone.
Anyway, after gingerbread got pushed to my device, i have yet to experience this issue!! i havent been able to find anyone reporting this resolution. i'm extremely please about this because it was becoming a deal breaker after i missed an important call because i couldnt answer my phone due to the issue!!
anyone else experiencing this resolution!?
In my experiences it does still occur, although seemingly less frequently. It is a hardware problem though so probably won't disappear regardless of the OS

Yup. For some reason I have worse now than before. Maybe I'm just using it more now. Lately it's driving me nuts, to the point of actually looking at a replacement.

this is where I was at before the push, i was seriously considering the incredible s, but for now it seems to have completely disappeared from my device...
I've also heard its a hardware issue (I do believe it to be true, not questioning that), so i found it extremely odd that its not happening now on my device.
Guess I'll just keep my mouth shut and enjoy
Observed no difference. The bug still appears every now and then. Doesn't bother me much because it usually occurs when the phone's charging. Not when I'm on the street using it. I heard that removing any kind of screen protectors can actually solve this problem.

I had it terribly after the GB OTA, I wiped cache & dalvik and it all but went away. One occurrence in a week and a half, and I've been using the crap out of the phone.
Slightly off topic question: On stock Android, is wiping cache the same as wiping the dalvik cache? The stock recovery doesn't have the "wipe dalvik" option, only "wipe cache".
No it's not, but if you have root you can wipe it manually by removing the contents /data/dalvik-cache/

Thanks. But every time you flash an official update, the cache gets wiped and rebuilt though, right? That's why after each update it takes a long time to boot.
I still have the touchscreen issue. i think it will never be solved because it's an hardware issue, not a software one.
So the problem still appears, maybe a little less frequently.
I still have the prob but it's different with 2.3
Before 2.3, the touchscreen problem was unpredictable and could happen at almost anytime, whether charging or not. I replaced the handset but the problem persisted.
Since upgrading to GB, I've noticed a very clear pattern. If I'm charging my device and unplug it before it is fully charged, the touchscreen becomes extremely erratic to the point I must reboot the phone. If it's allowed to charge completely it's okay.
It never happens when it's is not charging.
Still annoying as hell but I've moved to Africa and having the device replaced is a real challenge. So I guess I'm stuck with until I replace it.
Still has issue
Stock, no modification at all. Today when I was rearranging icons in ADW Launcher, it seems that the screen registered click below where my finger actually was, same as the problem I saw previous to updating to 2.3.3. The phone was not hooked to a charger at the time.
Stock GRI40 here on my Nexus One...same issues that i've already had with Froyo. As it was posted before, it's a hardware issue; and the Nexus S is the new kid on Google's block, so i'm not expecting anything to improve our screens.

Theoretically, there is a chance they could fix a software workaround for the hardware problem. If the error happens in only specific circumstances, and ALWAYS happens in those circumstances, then just teach the phone to know when those circumstances are happening, and tell it what to do in those cases. However, I doubt anyone at Google is working too hard on this problem. I agree, it seems to be much less frequent than it ever was. Seems likely that they may have added a little something to help us out.

Or more likely, it could be unintentional.
So even with official OTA it's still here?
Remember me of the ''crazy'' screen problem we had before while charging, perhaps it's a hardware problem after all
This is a main reason why tomorrow i'm getting a new galaxy s.
I tried a lot of custom and stock roms, I sent my phone to HTC and they replaced hardware, but this issue still persist. And it cause me a lot of problems, especially while driving...
I also still get that glitch but not as frequently. I noticed that i didn't need to reboot the phone to fix it. All i need to do is tap the power button to shutoff the screen and then re-tap to turn it back on and it'll show the lock screen. Slide to unlock and the screen is precise once again.
The bug is still there for me also. However, I didn't seem to have it as bad as some did originally, and now I've noticed that it's happening even less frequently.
Hi,
I recently bought my first Android phone in the form of Galaxy Note. However I am so far disappointed with it.
The main reason being that Phone hangs way too often. Earlier I thought it could be due to apps I downloaded from the Android Market. There is no pattern, sometimes it hangs while I am using Market or sometimes when I am browsing Settings menu.
Most of the time when it hangs, I have to remove the battery, put it again and reset the phone. I am really disappointed with my experience. I have already experienced the situation where I could not restart the phone and I had to take the phone to Service center to resolve the issue.
But now even after formatting, Phone does hang intermittently. I am going to take it to the service center but afraid that the issue may not reoccur there and they'll give me some BS reason.
I am not sure if this is a phone problem or Android problem. Does anyone else face the same problem?
P.S. - I have the latest firmware installed on my phone.

Thanks for your reply. Then this must be phone issue. I'll take it to the Samsung service center , let's see what they have to say.
Sounds like a defective phone. Mine doesn't behave like that.

100% you have a defective phone, take it back to Samsung service/repair centre.
Update - I took my phone to Service Centre and to my luck they too experienced the same freezing issue at boot start up. They have kept the phone for inspection and will let me know tomorrow.
I really hope they gave me replacement for my phone. Will update tomorrow.

Yup its a phone issue. My SGN hasnt had any issues yet. I am also using go launcher & added a couple of mods but not a single freeze in past 1 week.
Touch wiz on SGN is laggy compared to other versions.
These things happen to me when I try overclocking / undervolting too much but not on stock firmware. Looks like a defective device.

Try to flash a new firmware and check the problem again.
What have you installed lately?
When I first installed widgetlocker, I tried to set a 5x5 widget grid and my phone hung constantly. Using default grid works fine
Also. Vibrate notify also caused the note to lock up hard. Any system app that flakes out can lock up your phone.
Try to remove your sd card to test.
Some brands of sd card are not compatible with note.

As I had mentioned this is my 1st Android phone (and expensive one ), so I am not very adventurous with it at the moment.
I had downloaded following apps from Android market.
1. 3G Watchdog
2. Lookout security and Antivirus
3. etc
After my 1st major experience with Screen freeze, I performed hard reset and had performed updates for Flash, Google Maps. That's it. Still I found my phone freezing from time to time. There were no custom ROM or widgets on my phone.

I had not put SD card. 16GB is enough for me
As you guys mentioned, the phone was indeed a defective piece. FML
Service center guys wants to replace the faulty circuit with new circuit, however I am insisting on a new piece.
They say they replace the phone only if customer reports the fault in 4 days from purchasing which is BS policy. Not even a week complete and my phone started giving me trouble and they do no want to replace the phone. Big shame on Samsung for such stupid policies.
I have yet to hear from them as they want to speak to Samsung. Looks like I will have to raise storm to get my phone replaced. Rough ride ahead...wish me luck

hi ...im also facing the same problem as u...any update from samsung for ur phone?
I'd resist installing any security or anti virus apps.... Too intrusive and always running in the background.

Can this be reduced?
Using this phone is near impossible (browsing, ex) without so many false touches!
This has to be fixed.
No root = no build.prop edits.
Anyone know of a solution?
May have to keep my Note 5.
I've noticed that the screen is crazy sensitive. It's almost like i didn't even touch it yet and an app will open or the screen will swipe... Interested if there is any was to adjust it a bit as well.
At first I thought this was just a subjective thing that random people were experiencing but last night I was playing monkey King escape and it kept swiping me to the side when I would swipe up and vice versa. Also getting random clicks when scrolling through menus and webpages... And I'm using cases so it's not edge sensitivity. As much as I like everything else about this phone I can't deal with something as basic as that going wonky on me for this amount of money.

I'm having the exact same problem. It's very frustrating. It is difficult to do anything without unintentional opening apps and links. I'm hoping this is a software issue that can be resolved with a firmware update. If I cannot find something where Samsung acknowledge this issue before my 14 day return period is over. I may just have to go back to my S6. That's a shame because I really love everything else about this phone. There is a discussion about this issue here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/help/galaxy-s7-edge-touchscreen-overly-t3326936
I experienced the same problem when using without a case. But with my case on, no issues at all. I have a Spigen neo-hybrid case if it matters to anyone and love it.

Daze I see you also have/had a S6 Edge. Did you have any issues with the screen sensitivity on the S6 Edge? The S7 is my first Edge phone. Thanks.

The S6 definitely wasn't as sensitive as the S7 without a case, but I kept the same model of case on my S6 as well. I tried using the S7 around the house without a case and it definitely is touchy. No issues with the case on though.

Thanks for the reply. I do have a Spigen Air Cushion Ultra Hybrid case. It does help with the edge but I have an issue with the entire screen being over sensitive. I don't have that problem with my S6. Apparently I'm not the only one. It's even mentioned in a couple of reviews. I'm just hoping that it is resolved in a firmware update.

I'm getting that same case!
yeah, I think a firmware update should fix that sensitivity and bring it down a tad. Not sure if all variants (Sprint, T-Mobile AT&T?) have it set this high or if it's just Verizon. To me, it's not like a dealbreaker or anything, but ideally I would like it lowered some.
I have the same issues with extra screen sensitivity, so does my wife's regular S7. Actually when typing responses on this forum, I often hit the wrong thng on my SwiftKey keyboard on accident and it closes out everything lol. Then I have to start over. I'm not even sure how the heck it's happening.

The S6 Edge+ was nearly flawless.
Tapatalk browsing on this (S7 Edge) makes me want to throw the damn thing! LOL
Maybe this is Samsung's answer to TW lag. Just like in the old days (I'm talking i486 w/ Win 3.1 LOL) of making the mouse tracking fast to make the computer feel faster.
Just posting to say my screen is too sensitive as well. I fixed some false presses with a case, but still regular scrolling and clicking can be hit or miss if I'm hovering too close to the screen.
I've noticed this also, trying keeping your finger not so close to the screen when using it lol.
I found a solution for my over sensitive screen
I really feel stupid for my last post. I should have not jumped the gun so soon. I should have given it some time. Anyway after working great for the hours as I played around with the phone yesterday the over sensitive issue has returned today though not quite as bad as before. I just left a local Verizon corporate store to make an exchange. The problem is they do not have any S7 Edge's in stock nor have they ever received any S7 Edge's in their shop. Almost 2 weeks since the official release and not one Edge phone. They did have the regular S7 in stock and I considered switching to one. I also had my S6 with me and considered re-activating it. I ended up leaving with my Edge. I pre-ordered my Edge online and have one more day to decide to send it back or not. Sorry if anyone used that Verizon repair assistance and it didn't work. I meant well.
I called Verizon tech support today in regards to the screen sensitivity issue. He first had me boot in safe mode to see if the problem was present without any user installed apps. Problem still existed in safe mode. He suggested that I run the Verizon repair assistance to see if reflashing the firmware would help. He emailed me the link to the website. I didn't think that it would work but I figured I would give it a try. If it didn't work I was going to take the phone to the local Verizon corporate store for an exchange and maybe even switch to the regular S7. To my surprise it actually worked. My phone's screen is normal now. I'm still in kind of disbelief because it is such an enormous difference. Before flashing, just barely touching the phone would open apps. Scrolling on websites would open links. Now it only happens when I intentionally tap apps and links. The repair assistance is easy to use. It backs up your apps and settings and restores everything for the most part when it's done. When the phone first boots up it starts the setup wizard. When it gets to the part where it ask to restore backups from the cloud I wouldn't let it because it wasn't yet connected to wifi. I learned the hard way what happens when your phone installs a complete backup on data and repair assistant re-installs a backup and settings. Anyway the program will tell you when you have to make manual selections during the process like what USB connection to choose. I don't know if this will work for everyone but it definitely worked for me. I'm going keep testing it though in case the issue returns. I have only 2 days to return the phone for a new replacement if necessary. Here is the link to the repair assistance website.

Please keep us up to date on this over the next couple days. If this is the fix it seems too good to be true! Also, do you mean when you said - you learned the hard way about letting it restore the backup via data instead of wifi - that the restore simply eats thru a ton of data? Or was that some other meaning? My home wifi is slow as crap compared to LTE so I don't know if I have the patience to wait for a full restore on my wifi lol.

Ok I did this and since I don't have much on my phone I chose NOT to back it up.
It downloaded a big file (the latest fully updated ROM, presumably) so if you don't have a fast connection this may take some time. We were getting good speed so it only took a minute or two.
It does seem to be better.
It needs to settle in before the jury's out.
Definitely worth the set up as new if it turns out to be the solution.
It was driving me nuts.

See my update on my original post please. As far as the data issue, I purchased my S6 last November from Best Buy. They set everything up in the store as far as my Verizon and Samsung registration. On the way home unbeknownst to me the phone was restoring all of my dozens of apps from a backup on Verizon. I was in my car with no wifi and I didn't realize what was happen until I received a text message from Verizon informing me that I was almost out of data. I shut off mobile data right away but I had very little left at that point. Apparently downloading loads of apps eats a lot of data.
I have sensitive S6 (it may be similar to other S)
This suggestion is from somebody else but it worked for me.
try this:
setting | personal | accessibility | dexterity | press and hold change it from 0.5 to 1.0
Changing that setting didn't work.
This phone is useless IMO for browsing in most apps. Every time I touch to scroll where there's an item that's clickable it selects it. VERY annoying. NEVER had this before in any device. Methinks this is going back.
I hit the twitter or Facebook link in posts when scrolling occasionally but it's few and far between.
