HI,
I am using octa core S4.
4.2.2 (rooted)
whenever I insert usb cable or the charger to charge my phone, it turns off by it self. I can see the battery on my display(that one which appears when you charge your phone when it is switched off.). But that is not stable either. it goes and comes again and again.

You don't need change the battery maybe. This seems a problem of:
1. The USB charger. You can buy other OFFICIAL without problem.
2. The charging port. It can be fixed in the service center or maybe your wanna try for yourself: HERE

No. the phone stays connected when i put it in downloading mode. I'm re-flashing it. The firmware should be culprit. Let's see what happens now.! :good:

Update: it turns off when I plug in the charger and press power button for more than 2 times. I don't know what's wrong! How can this happen! I'm plugging in the charger, pressing the power button for few times and it is gone! It won't even start after that it will keep restarting until I press power button few times again!

My power button has been acting funky lately, i thought it was just a software issue until i switched my battery today and realized it was hardware. now i cant turn on the phone.
Is there anyway to power on the phone via fastboot or some usb command? i need to get some files off the device before the device swap but i dont know how to turn it on without the power button =[

One of the bloggers on Droiddog.com had the EXACT same question. Yes it's possible... read her method here:
http://www.droiddog.com/android-blog/2010/06/nexus-one-power-button-failure/
Basically:
Plug the phone in– USB or AC works fine.
Wait until the charging light comes on.
Remove the battery, while leaving the phone plugged in.
Replace the battery.
After about 3-4 times, the phone should boot.
i need to know if i can turn it on via usb command, ive already called in for the device swap.

it worked!!!!!!! fourth time it started right up. thank you so much you saved my life
if you take it out and wait till right after the charging light goes off then put it back in it seems to start up a couple seconds later!
Glad you got it up and running. Sorry I misunderstood the question.

I was doing an Odin of EG22 leak and it locked at setting pit file. I let it sit for about 30 minutes and still no change. I removed the cable (the battery is removed as odin never worked with the battery in the phone) and tried to re-enable download mode and I'm getting no response. There is no response from the phone when I plug it into a power source (no led light or battery charging icon on the screen). So did I just brick my phone?
Try removing the battery, plugging the phone into odin then re-inserting the battery.

Still no response from the Epic doing what you suggested.
My average response to this is always to try another cord.

I don't think it's the cord. The cord doesn't mean anything if I can't get the phone into download mode.

Try purging the juice from the phone. With the battery out, repeatedly press the power button and leave the battery out for a while...at least a couple of hours if you aren't having any luck.

Rare to find a real brick these days but you definitely have one. Try the magic pinhole button that some have and others do not. It is a pinhole inside the back cover right next to the camera lens. Push a pin or paperclip in there for a second or two.
Try the following:
1. Remove battery.
2. Hold down power button for a few seconds to drain juice.
3. Plug phone in USB
4. Wait a few seconds.. Unplug..
5. Put battery in.
6. Slide out keyboard, hold down #1 + Power key. Boot into download mode.
7. Plug USB back in.
Thats how I fixed my Odin catastraphe when my little girl unplugged the cable while odining
Plug phone into computer, take out battery, attempt to get into download mode... with odin open first.... IDK if anyone else has already suggested that but w/e

I did the same thing going from EC05 to EG22.... changing the modem.... I removed the battery for a few min. changed the usb cable and usb port... it came up first in a picture i have never (seen a small computer and phone) I removed battery one more time and was able to go to download mode..... good luck
Good to read up this info, we can all learn from others' mistakes. =P
SchizioPunk's Epic Experience 2.1 Eclair -> Odin to EC05. Rooted. Bloatware Removed. Voodoo Sound V9 Module Loaded. Enjoying my Customized Stock Experience.
During an ODIN flash, i tried to put the back cover back on the phone and the ODIN Status turned RED (Fail) and the screen turned to a greenish color and now it does not turn on or charge. The battery works fine on my wife's phone.
Is there anything i can do? I am past my warranty so I walked into a Tmobile Store and they said it looks like water damage on the usb plug which is total BS.
PLEASE HELP!!!!
Take out the battery, SIM, and SD card. Wait 5-10 seconds. Put only the battery back in. Open Odin. While holding Volume up+down, plug in your USB cable. Should go to Download Mode. Reflash in Odin.

Not working. Still black and no connection made in ODIN.
I'd be really surprised if you couldn't get this unbricked. Did you drop it in water through? Or was that just something completely unrelated?
try to odin back to stock
1. Start Odin
2. Plug USB cable into pc
3. Power off the Phone.
3. Pull the Battery.
5. Plug USB cable into Phone.
6. Press and Hold: Volume UP + Volume DOWN + Power, all at the same time.
7. Re-insert the battery.
8. The phone will power now, when the screen starts a cycle of going to a BLACK screen, release ONLY the POWER button.
9. When you see the download icon release the volume buttons,
10. Odin back to stock by putting the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
Or try that same method without holding the power button, just the volume rocker (up and down) when plugging into usb that works for some ppl

ooofff.. that sounds nasty.
You say the green LED is coming ON for a second when it's plugged into the pc.
Are all the ABD and/or flash drivers correctly installed?
I hope it's not a brick.

Yeah!! When i connect it in flash mode the LED stays for a second and then disappears. I did nothing that could possibly brick the phone!!! I just switched off my phone when i was about to start with my exam. After about 2 hours i switched it on and it didn't boot. And by the way when i press the power button a green LED blinks.
Try to take out the battery for a while and try to flash it again.
Another idea is to take out the battery, and while holding the back button on the phone and having the dialogue to put the phone in flash mode in flash tools, first put in the USB cable and then the battery.
Hey guys!!! My phone is back now. I just reflashed it. Thank u everyone for helping me out
So this is my first post because I can normally find what I'm looking for, except for in this case.
First off my phone, Galaxy S4 Model SGH-I337 running Android 4.2.2 rooted. No custom rom installed, i.e. Cyanogenmod. I recently bought some new batteries and a new charger which I had been using for about two weeks before my problem arose.
I came home one night plugged my phone in to charge and woke up to find it unresponsive. I tried a battery pull and found my phone turns on for about 3 seconds showing the samsung custom screen with the padlock only to shut off again. Same thing happens not matter how many times I perform a battery pull. I tried plugging into my computer but the phone is not detected.
I tried a battery pull and booting into safe mode and debugging mode but the phone just shuts off after 3 seconds no matter what.
I'm not sure if this is a true hard brick since when I perform a battery pull the phone starts and the buttons seem to work, at least enough to enter safe or debugging mode.
I have not seen any threads where the phone momentarily turns on after battery pull only to shut off quickly.
Has anyone run into this problem before and is there anyway to fix it???

The phone didn't brick itself. So, if you didn't do anything to it and just found it that way (as you said), I would think it is a hardware problem either with the phone or the battery. Have you tried a different battery? If you rule out a defective battery, I would say it is a hardware problem with the phone.

My friend has a T-Mobile GS4 and same thing happened to him. It would only turn on when he would pull the battery and put it back in, but it would turn off soon after. Turns out his power button was jammed. He went and go it replaced.
Try this: Pull your battery and put it back in. If your phone turns on momentarily without you pressing anything then the power button is the problem.
Are you able to enter download mode..or recovery?

There's disassembly guides/videos if you want to try, you could search that and just take a look at the mechanism.
