[Q] Super Slow Data Speeds (Less then 1mbps) - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

So as you can tell by the title i have been having data speeds lately with 1mbps and less. If you can help at all it would be amazing. Ive tried researching and cant find anything helpful.

Same here. I have sprint and I can't even finish the test

Is this for 3G? Of so that is about the average for their 3G speeds. In fact for some people you have above average.

And if before you were getting above 1mbps 3G download speed you were VERY VERY lucky.

I've actually got around 1-2mbs on 4g Lte (Unbelievably). But yeah 1mb for 3g is definitely not surprising.

[Q] T-Mobile Monthly 4G Roaming.

Has anyone on T-Mo's monthly 4G noticed that if you go to roaming and then go back in an area where you would normally have HSPA or 3G that it doesn't switch back to signal and it just stays on roaming? It doesn't happen all the time just every so often.
How did you get to roam on monthly4g? I didn't think you could roam.

You can't...

It isn't roaming with data, just voice and text roaming.
How do you know it's roaming? Is there an R or do I have to go to the special menu? I've gone to Butlerville, AR where I know there is AT&T service, and I get no service.

I'd love to force this thing into roaming sometimes. I've tried forcing registering onto AT&T but it never lets me.

Yeah, when you're roaming there will be a little R in the signal indicator where 3G or HSPA would normally be.
so still no answer to the OP's question? Sounds like a valid question to me and I also would like to know the answer and I don't yet have T-mobile.

Even somewhere where AT&T has service you won't necessarily roam. T-mobile only has roaming contracts with AT&T in some areas, so if you're in an area not covered by a roaming contract, you won't be able to get roaming, not even by trying to force register to AT&T. I've tried, believe me. T-Mo generally only has roaming contracts in areas where there are 10+sq miles of non-coverage, e.g. most of Montana.

That's been my experience as well. I've been in plenty of places where there was strong AT&T signal, but I had no service. The only place I've ever actually roamed on Monthly4G was in Alaska...and I can confirm that it was voice/text only.
Isn't there a setting in the Mobile network settings section that enable data roaming?

Wouldn't matter. T-Mobile has it disabled at the plan level.

That source can hardly be trusted. I know for a fact that AT&T and Verizon LTE in the US have hit higher downloads than Japan, as well as some speed tests I've seen of Australia's LTE

Technically to be 4G it has to be able to attain 100Mbps or greater. LTE technically is a technology that can do 4G but not in it's current state of below 100Mbps speeds.

That's HSPA+ and WiMax (at least how T-Mobile, AT&T, and Sprint marketed 4G).
But AFAIK, the new LTE networks being deployed are in fact true 4G. Why else would Verizon be putting SIM cards in their phone now? Because LTE is a GSM technology and they have to.

BTW the OP was about fastest net speed, so it never really mattered if it was LTE or not, its still faster than the countries posted

Straight talk questions

I bought a Straight Talk at&t SIM from eBay recently for use on my Nexus 4. I am going to be out of the country for three months. If I don't activate the SIM right away, can I activate it when I come back in three months?
Can I switch from plan to plan once I have it activated? Does it support LTE or HSPA+ speeds?
Much thanks!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Yes you can activate it in 3 months.
Straight talk (at&t) does not have lte use. However you will get H.

[Q]

Hello!!
Okay So I am going to apologize now.... Im not a complete noob.... but apparently enough so that I cant get this to work.... Ive read enough post *going on two weeks worth* and talked to sprint... I know its do able, But I cant figure out what/how to make it work!
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 Sprint version sph l720t It has a sim card slot, Ive read post about people actually unlocking the phone and using different domestic SIMS.... but When I try to find the steps to do so i get this mish mash mess of different things nothing coherent..... one site says flash a diferent modem (but doesnt say wich one or where to get it) another says edit the build.prop file to access the hiden menus?!?
Can someone please help me!
It is NOT possible right now on the triband model. Only the regular GS4. Because you need to downgrade modem to MDC which is only available for the regular GS4 and will not flash on the Triband version.

sooooo all of the post of people saying they have? or sprint telling me it can be done?
Are ALL on the regular Sprint GS4. About 90% of the users on this forum have the regular phone. Sprint can unlock international but not domestic. And for sprint to.unlock the phone you have to have sprint service in good standing for at least 90 days.

I believe that the phones have different hardware in them (mostly for the T to support Spark).
I have read where other people have tried, but ended up soft bricking phones.

I don't think it is that much different since triband models are able to run Regular gs4 Roms with almost no issues.

So do you have any ideas? Im skilled with making most phones work. But im stumped on this one. Whats the difference? Spring has the SIM/GSM option.... I was at a spring store today, they said spring can and will unlock for domestic use.... just have to have it active on their service with 60days use.... OR I could unlock myself...... what are we missing?
