Edit: This has been [ SOLVED ] please refer to last post, my idea is that if updating through kies it either turns usb debugging off ( even though it shows on, and or turns reactivation lock on ( even if it appears to be off) , all in all this might just be an issue where wiping the system cache on Clean Master did the trick I have no idea.
Thank you to all who had a hand in providing information
Story goes like this.
Updated through kiies and lost root, so I figured I'll just use Cf auto root to get it back, flash in Odin fails and produces in red text "secure check failed : recovery" have tried different USB ports, cables, battery pulls, wiping of cache. I'm just confused as to why it is A) giving me "secure check failed: Recovery " and if there is any way to fix this so I can actually succeed and get this device rooted.
Thanks in advance

Did this on my n900w8 and still 0.0. CF root sent me into the same loop.

Things to check;
- make sure reactivation lock is off
- make sure the cf file you're using is for your os, 4.3 cf auto root won't work on a 4.4 bootloader

Yes sir, never have turned reactivation lock on and it appears to be off in settings.
I have also used the 4.4 versions of the CF Auto-root to no avail
When trying to flash CWM Recovery i also receive " secure check fail [FMM]: Cache"
When trying to flash TWRP i receive " secure check fail: Recovery"
Any further advice?

For root, use this file.
For custom recovery, I've only used this CWM file ever since updating to Kit Kat. Haven't tried TWRP so can't comment on that one.

Yes USB debugging is on
I have attempted with both the exact files, as well as the sm900w8 Cf auto to no avail, I think my last resort is going to be to re flash a fresh version of 4.4.2 and if that sticks I'm going to try this all over again. I'll let you guys k ow what's happening..
[SOLVED]
So, got home and was thinking about what i could attempt to do before i just straight up flashed stock and retried, i decided to Toggle off usb debugging and turn it back on, then turned on reactivation lock, and then turned it off. I then proceeded to clean my system cache using Clean master, popped into download mode, and i flashed the Cf Auto-Root for the sn9500 Worked like a charm passed and rooted my device.
Would like to note that this did not trip Knox i am still 0x0 ( can provide pics if needed) Thank you to all that provided some help thanks will be given appropriately

1. asked before, just to reconfirm : which CF-Autoroot version you are using ? the 4.4.2 right ?
3. did you follow the instructions on how to flash through ODIN ?
2. have you uncheck the Reactivation Lock inside security setting ?
Normally if following his step with a correct files, u should be fine.

Try to go into download mode. See down there whether ur reactivation lock is on or off.
If on, don't do anything like rooting or custom recovery or custom rom.
Try to look for reactivation lock option first to off it.

Its 4.4.2 kitkat , n900pvpucnab . Evidently i think some firmwares versions do not have the reactivation lock. Im just getting ready to try to root again, i am confused about witch cf auto root to try and use. Cf has updated files now:
https://plus.google.com/+Chainfire/posts/NuBxE9dEeXv
the last time i tried was with the CF-Auto-Root-hltespr-hltespr-smn900p tar, but someone said to use the smn9005 tar. :

* Also i am worried about this note :
UNLOCK BOOTLOADERS
If you have locked bootloaders, flashing one of these will probably brick your device - with the exception of Nexus devices, which will usually automatically "OEM unlock" and wipe your data !

Not sure if its locked version. How to unlock ?
I downloaded the updated cf root, both the 9005 and 900, retried root thru oden with the new 900 and it failed, got message in red "unsupport dev type", the blue bar was stuck at the halfway mark. Did batt pull and on reboot triangle : reboot firmware upgrade encountered an issue, select recovery mode in keis and try again". keiv could not find device and said "connected device not supported".tried to do emergency recovery but i have no code to use and it no show my device anyway. I went back into download mode and connected with oden and flashed the 9005 tar, and that got me phone back up. Refollowed those other instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51446272&postcount=1392&nocache=1&z=288570789389558,

all.
I have an i9505 on 3 UK that has been rooted for over 6 months. I've been running the excellent TW based Echo Rom but wanted to try an ASOP rom but quickly wanted to revert.
I tried to restore my Nandroid but this failed and screwed up the phone (dont ask)so back to ODIN and i flashed back to stock 4.4.2 firmware for the UK via Sammobile (NG8)
Now back to square 1 so attempted to reroot with CF Autoroot again via ODIN. all show pass and i get the black screen on the phone with the red android logo and line stating stock recovery restored. I then used ODIN to flash Philz recovery again shown as Pass, however when i try to get into recovery i get some small white text on the bkack background that is there too briefly to read before the phone reboots as normal.
The Su superuser app is there but states the Su binary is outdated and the phone has no root access.
Ive read a few methods to get round this but they all seem to follow the same process ive tried a few times now.
The Rom for Echoe is auto root so id have thought if i could get to recovery somehow i could just flash this ?
Any one any views or have i screwed up for good ? .
You will be fine.
If you want to flash a custom rom anyway the shortest way would be to just flash the custom recovery. You don't need root for that.
Uncheck auto-reboot before you flash the recovery and it should work.

so i reflashed Philz recovery and unchecked auto reboot. This then gives me PASS in ODIN. I guess then i unplug and try and activate recovery - but still nothing...it just boots up normally ?

Originally I tried philz_touch_5.15.8-i9505.tar.md5
and then updated to philz_touch_6.23.9-i9505.tar.md5 with no avail.
Try redownloading it. If you say that if passes, then it should just work.
If it still fails then try TWRP. Uncheck auto-reboot before flashing.
Could it be connected to me flashing a generic unlocked UK firmware on a 3 UK handset ?
That's sorted it ! Flashed CWM recovery and am now running Echoes v28.
Thanks for the help. I was really panicking for a while.
I wont be changing roms for a while but I guess if I did I won't lose root ?

No need to unlock the bootloader. Secure download was introduced on the Lollipop release and it doesn't act anything on your bootloader, even if you flash insecured file (.tar without .md5) via ODIN.
ive been through thousands of pages of forums and so far this is best answer to this question lol so this secure download enabled will not stop u from flashing causing odin to fail write and if so what will stop it from flashing stock or any rom ?
secure download enabled have one purpose... you CAN'T download (flash) old or low baseband (firmware) to your device... so you can't flash anything old than the one you already have installed.. well not by odin itself.. but you still can flash recoverys if your device support it, and flash any custom rom also..
edit: this not applied to old s5, s4, etc devices.. but s6 and new 2016 devices because the hardware checks

Hi guys. I need help on restoring my s4 on complete stock. I messed up real hard
Here my problem. I have an i9505 s4 which is simlocked to globe philppines(mobile carrier). I tried to get rid of its booting animation because it's so annoying for me so I wanted to flash a stock rom of i9505 international version via Odin 3.07 but I rooted it first via Odin also. The time I am flashing GalaxyS4-CWM-6.0.4.4-GT-i9505 tar file, I got a fail in Odin then my S4 won't boot anymore and it says firmware upgrade encountered an issue blah blah kies. I tried to boot to recovery and that's what is also shows up. I tried to use Kies but what it does is just connecting to my device which takes forever. So I flashed a stock rom via Odin and it worked but the very problem is It's very laggy and says that process stopped responding, camera not working, status bar also not working, wifi not working. In short, all core apps are not working or just works for a minute and then stops and hang the phone. Sometimes i get a wallpaper screen(nothing else, just my wallpaper which occurs when it hangs).
Luckily I still haven't hardbricked my phone yet so I need all your help to fix it before I hardbrick it :crying::crying::crying:
Please help me how to restore my S4 to the very stock like fresh android software because I'm trying to still fix it days ago. I WILL TRY TO ANSWER ALL YOUR QUESTIONS REGARDING TO MY PROBLEM JUST PLEASE HELP ME PLEASE ! IM VERY WORRIED
You can chill. Nothing wrong with your phone and you didn't mess up anything. Things like that happen. You cannot brick your phone this way. It's almost impossible to brick it.
1. Perform factory reset in recovery.
That will probably fix it. Report back if it doesn't.
ps do not use CWM because it's outdated. Use TWRP and uncheck auto-reboot before flashing it trough Odin.

Is it okay to flash any build number on my s4? I just downloaded one of them "I9505XXUHOA7_OXAHOA7" and I flashed it on my phone. I tried to factory reset/wipe cache partition/ and wipe dalvik cache in cwm 6.0.4.4 touch but it always hangs and core apps are not responding. Maybe the rom is the problem? I don't know but I'll try to flash twrp and report back if it doesn't work.
I have installed TWRP and its stuck on bootloop. Tried to reset its factory settings but stuck on bootloop then cache partition and dalvik cache. I tried to install the rom via TWRP and it says installation failed. Should I download other rom ?
I just want it to make it work like what an s4 should be. Even on stock or custom rom.

No you cannot flash that with TWRP. You cannot flash stock roms with TWRP. You can only flash it with Odin. Besides you need to unpack that .zip file.
Keep in mind that you also cannot flash that package if you were on Lollipop.
Download a rom from here:

Take this version: I9505XXUHOJ2
It doesn't matter which one. Then flash it using that guide from the link you gave me.

Hi I've been trying to root my S5 on Marshmallow 6.0.1 with little success. Having tried more than several times with Odin 3 as instructed in several guides, but all I've managed to achieve is a the addition of a boot message indicating that I've tripped KNOX; TWRP and ROM Manager tell me I'm not root!
I've rooted earlier versions of the Galaxy S, but to be fair I'm a little out of the loop. Could some kind soul help me out?
Uncheck "Auto Reboot" in ODIN
Copy SuperSU 2.71 beta to your phone/SD
Code:
https://mega.nz/#!2N4kECQb!Tjj5Q1VcQMU7TJ83MaTrtzdUeZsXBPZqgAtyl4qDXD8
Flash TWRP 3.0.0.0 or 3.0.2.0 with ODIN 3.10.7 (Newer versions of TWRP are broken)
TWRP 3.0.2.0
Code:
https://dl.twrp.me/klte/twrp-3.0.2-0-klte.img.tar.html
ODIN 3.10.7
Code:
https://mega.nz/#!vcIGmBTQ!Yr00OrGvUslQouU9E-zPf4SmpyVwL7mwIjeSG-0EAZg
When it's finished flashing, disconnect USB and pull the battery to power off
Replace battery and Boot immediately into TWRP and flash SuperSU
Reboot (Say no to any offer of rooting by TWRP if asked after already flashing manually)

When it's finished flashing, disconnect USB and pull the battery to power off
Replace battery and Boot immediately into TWRP and flash SuperSU
Reboot (Say no to any offer of rooting by TWRP if asked after already flashing manually)

Hi Detection, thanks for the advice and links. I've done as instructed but still no root!
Installing SuperSu from the Play store reports no SU binary installed, if that helps.
Any advice?
Try again, that is the exact method myself and many others with G900F use, and it works fine
Double check it does say it is a G900F in download mode
List exactly what ODIN says after the flash, and what happens after the flash and you try booting into recovery
Just saying "Still no root" isn't explaining much

My apologies, for not being particularly verbose. I shall try again and report more detailed results. I am very appreciative of your help!

Don't add steps I haven't listed, no need to install anything from the play store, remove what you installed and follow the steps to a T

In Download Mode it currently states:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SM-G900F
CURRENT BINARY: Custom
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
REACTIVATION LOCK: OFF
KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0x1 (4)
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE (CSB)
RP SWREV: S1, R1, A1, P1
SECURE DOWNLOAD : ENABLE
UDC START
However, upon flashing the zip file, TWRP reports "Failed to mount 'data' invalid argument"! In red, perhaps this is the reason I'm failing. Possibly it is because the internal storage was encrypted, though I though that I had unencrypted it already.
*Edit: After I had performed all of the steps, exactly as described, I tried some apps to check if I had root that is all.
Sounds like the encryption is causing the problem then, try TWRP 3.0.0.0 instead too
Otherwise factory reset and don't encrypt, then root

Thanks, yes I had forgotten that encryption was irreversible. I wondered why removing the backup password seemed to 'unencrypt' the device a bit quickly DOH!
OK, so as I have already installed the TWRP custom recovery mode , I assume that a hard reset to factory defaults is going to be a little more involved. I'll give the earlier revision of TWRP a try first and see where that leaves me.
Once again thanks for your help and bearing with my stupidity.
Should be able to just factory reset from TWRP
Or from phone settings, and if it replaces recovery with stock, flash TWRP again

No joy with either the earlier revision of TWRP, or a factory reset from the phone settings.
The phones factory reset boots me into TWRP and returns errors relating to can't mount '/data'. I also tried by recreating my initial phone backup password to see if that would help.
I'm stuck now, can't go forward and can't go back!
Any ideas on how I can proceed please?
Flash 6.0.1 stock ROM from sammobile .com with ODIN
Boot into recovery
Factory reset
Flash TWRP
Flash SuperSU
