You've might have seen my Thread for the Xperia Z.
I'm planing on creating a similar thing for the Xperia Z2
THIS THREAD IS NOT for Antutu/Quadrant/GLBenchmark results.
What is a governor and how does it work?

Few words from Qualcomm about power Benchmarking!
Benchmark Tools:
Using the App Repetitouch to generate a custom pattern that gets repeated.
Using the App BetterBatteryStats to check most Stats like Screen on Time, CPU stats, Battery Drain.
Using Qualcomm Trepn Profiler for detailed stats about CPU/GPU/Powerdrain (New on Google Play)
Using the App Battery Log for Stats like %, Voltage, Batterytemp. during charging.
Normal v3:
Deleted Facebook App from my phone! Essentially the same benchmark as v2 except that instead of Facebook i now open the E-mail app.
This will decreas the overall performance need a little as email is way less performance hungry as facebook.
Old Benchmarks:
Normal:
Doing *nothing* just browsing app drawer and homescreen + a short intercourse in the web.
Connected to WiFi, 2x Active Exchange sync running + Facebook
Normal v2:
On 2014.11.16 i decided to use a new Benchmark parcours.
wiping on Desktop / App Drawer, opening Whatsapp, opening Facebook, opening Chrome, opening Whatsapp again-> Force Close, opening FB again -> Force Close, opening Chrome again -> Force Close.
Benchmark Duration increased from 48 seconds (old one) to about 2 minutes.
Voltage
as stated by doomlord the Z2 has 15 different preset Voltage Tables.
My phone has a PVS11 which results in this voltage table:
If not anyhow other mentioned all tests are made with these voltages! (read via Faux123 app on doomkernel v09)
300mhz = 775mV
422mhz = 775mV
652mhz = 775mV
729mhz = 775mV
883mhz = 780mV
960mhz = 790mV
1036mhz = 810mV
1190mhz = 820mV
1267mhz = 850mV
1497mhz = 860mV

Path to internal Stats file:
On some Kernels you have an internal Log file which records all important data.
The "overal_time_in_stat" which records time spent in 10ms for each frequency per core and the "overall_total_trans" which records the amount of transistions(switching CPU frequency) per core can be found in

sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/overall_stats/
The "trans_stat" file which shows detailed information about GPU transitions (from X to Y frequency) and time spent in fequency can be found in

Charging Benchmarks:
Benchmarking the Charging duration is pretty easy, you take a stopwatch and look how long it takes to reach 100%. Yet there are some other informations you want to take a closer look at. The Battervoltage and the Batterytemperature. The app "Battery Log" takes accurate stats of these values each time the Percentage changes.
You can Display those values as graph or raw values, and the most important, you can export them as a .csv file and use them in Excel.
If you want even more Statistics like the Current and Voltage the charger is providing, then you need external hardware equipment. In my case that's the ZYX Studios PowerMonitor because it works from 0 to 13V and 0-3A it is fully QuickCharge 2.0 compatible and *most likely* will also work with QuickCharge 3.0, if it doesn't there is a high chance that if you flash a firmware update it will recognize QuickCharge 3.0
Another pretty awesome feature of this tiny 30$ device is the Bluetooth module which you can buy additionally. It allows for remote logging the Current and Voltage via Smartphone (and the App Bluetooth Terminal) or PC. In 0.36, 1s, 2s, 30s or 60s intervals. I use 1 Second intervals for my graphs wich ends up with a huge (around 10'000 Datapoints) Graph but contains all important informations.

I'm not sure if the spike at second 32 really is because of throttling (as the core did reach 63°C then) or just because of the benchmark went from Integer to float-point tests

Funny thing here, the 3D Benchmark started somewhere around 140 seconds, and the GPU only wen't over 380mhz after 160 seconds.
Guess Antutut 3d benchmark really is outdated ^^
and here we go! with the first round of Governor Benchmarks.
Trepn Profiler was running in the Background! Only reading BatteryPower, no overlays! Therefore performance and battery drain shouldn't be influenced that big.

Wow, very interesting. Lagfree really is max performance! Smartass should be re-named "Singlecore"
Also, I can't help but notice Qualcomm hotplug likes to keep everything on cores 0/3 and pretty much idle 1/2. I'd like to see a baseline run of where mpdecision isn't used.

Another interesting topic this brings up is the "race to idle" argument. The tests you're doing are absolutely relevant for something like say, playing a game, or maybe even web browsing that is time limited, but some things are action dependent, and therefore a governor like Lagfree may not be so power hungry if it finishes a task very quickly, albeit using more power while it's running.
So using intelliplug, which should improve battery life, drains your battery faster? Interesting..

GPU tests
(Tests in this post made on Doomkernel v07!)
so from all these Governors we can choose on the GPU side there are only 2 working.
cpubw_hwmon crashes the phone instantly.
msm-adreno-tz is the standard gov.
Performance just clocks at 578mhz all the time
all others lock gpu on 200mhz!
to activate simple GPU gov. msm-adreno-tz needs to be selected.

The Manhattan Test lost from 730 points (11.8fps) to 725 points (11.7fps) while logging

then i activated Simple Governor:
the score(link to picture) doesn't say anything, that we've proven by testing 200mhz -.-
but the Trepn log actually looks nice!
You can see it jumping between 433 and 578 ^^ which results in a lower score than the normal gov. ^^
the battery drain does seem a little lower tough. Also the GPU load is about 50% while on normal gov. its about 75%
So... what is the most powerdraining and best looking Game you know?
Benchmarks are nice... but we wan't some real world comparison, right ?
somewhen i'm gonna test these two governors and a limited (i.e 200mhz or lower frequency) in the "normal" benchmark for 10 minutes and take the average powerdrain.
I assume that in games the clock will be maximized the whole time, except throttling kicks in.

As for the bam_dmux_wakelock this seems to be a normal Problem on 3g ! gotta yet find a solution for this! but 53 Minutes awake for nothing at all sure aren't great! Maybe Stamina mode will help here.
But all in all, 0.4% Per Hour is Great! i don't even use any Battery savers except greenify.

bam_dmux_wakelock seem to happen because of the exchange service. I have 2 Accounts via Exchange active Sync and push notifcations.
When email is not excluded in Stamina mode the phone seems to sleep perfectly fine !

Let Trepn Profiler run and log the Battery Percentage while charging.
TrepnProfiler (even when polling 100ms..... for 7 hours gave over 130'000 values -.- big mistake! Gonna change that to 10 seconds next time -.-) does NOT drain the battery more than it charges. here is another test without trepn running! also takes 4hours.

Even with User Control Hotplug it seems NOT possible to have just 1 core active!
P.S if you wonder where NR 26 is? here core Hotplug did not stick and 4 cores were active! i think this happens because the phone went into deep sleep after i choose the setting. i did not let this happen with the other tests.
Conclusion:
Deactivating Cores will NOT help you safe battery on a moderate daily usage!
If you're using photoshop apps or other really power hungry apps that might look different, but for normal web browsing, facebook and whats app that does not help!
I've made some tests under FULL load via CPU Prime Benchmark.
The SoC got aroun 78-82°C and the battery around 50°C Felt like it was burning ^^

So better make the Test 30min-1hour for a usefull result. This comes from the different recording methods. Trepn profiler is poling the CPU every (ca) 100ms an asking what clock the CPU has, and the Internal method... i have no idea! I reccomend using the internal method to not create more than necessary CPU(and GPU) load Except you really have a long Task and whant to see where the CPU was heavy loaded and when it was idle! Took Test NR 2-4 and put them all together in one Chart! It Looks horrible i know -.- Any better idea what type of chart would be usefull ? I don't think there is a 3 Dimensional Pie chart ? And i'd had to use that for eacht core... so won't work either. This is a simple "Added" Bar which shows which frequency takes which part. But for overall visibility it's kinda usefull. Observation 1: Qualcomm Mostly works on core0. Only 10% Core1. Core1 has the same 1512mhz time than Intelli-Plug and showP Observation 2: Intelli-Plug has less 1512mhz time than Qualcomm and similar to showP on core0. There is a LOT of 384mhz idle time on all 4 cores. There is a lot of Boost (1026mhz) time on all 4 cores. Core2 and Core3 are long active. Observation 3: ShowP has similar usage pattern on core0 like Intelli-Plug. Core1 does not have so much 385mhz time but more 1026mhz time. Core2 and Core3 are rarely used! From a BatterySaving aspect i cannot say which one would be the best. Qualcomm surely sucks because its so long on 1512mhz. but the Intelli-plug and showP 1026mhz time is roughly the same! Now is the question does the long 384mhz time on intelliplug use more battery than the faster times on showP ?

After all these Tests there is also a Comparision. because i couldn't find a better diagram i've made the same again, this time in 3D.. looks little better iMHO Governors like Wheatley, IntelliDemand, OnDemand, Badass and AbyssPlug v2 are currently configured to stay long on lowest frequency and also long on highest frequency Governors like Asswax, Adaptive or SmartMax have a slow RampUP speed and therefore might cause Lag. At least for me when i switched from SmartMax to Performance there was a HUGE difference. If you're okay with the Lag ( reccomended to try it out live for one day) Adaptive seems quite nice for Battery Life. Doing a 1h battery test for each Governor seems to be possible the next days, so proof should be incoming soon.

One thing we've learned is that the previous assumption on batterylife according to clock speed wasn't that off. Interessting fact: Race to idle DOES matter As the Wheatley governor uses way less battery than Interactive even tough it has longer 1525mhz times. (coming from this graphic) Another thing is that the CPU load per core per clock is kinda similar to the 5 minute governor tests! This shows that even in 5 Minutes you can get accurate data on how your governor behaves. Altough this does not relate to battery life! Here the comparison in one Graph Even tough SmartMax beats all other in Battery life IMHO it does lag to much! So the 3 Governors i'm gonna take a closer look are Wheatley, Asswax, Adaptive. Maybe also Interactive, because thats the standard governor.

Sooo.... today after a long slumber i tried to make some Battery Benchmarks when listening to Music with the Speakers! Set to Fligthmode deactivate WiFi and repeate 1 Track for 3 hours, with Screen off! Sadly that failed! It seems my speaker are broken! it happens sometimes that they dont play the sound the should but more like a crackling noise! force closing the current app resolves that problem. What an unappreciated thread. It seems like the Xperia (Z) community are more into making their phone look like the most recent version of Sony's android, rather than getting the best battery and/or performance out of the phone. Thanks for all your work on this Haldi and for the insight into the different governors. I've only recently taken a look at the adaptive governor, it seems very conversative. It's just that most of the other governors boost the freq to max (1,5) with the littlest amount of activity (like pulling down the notif drawer) which seems like a waste to me... Then rather some lag ! I've underclocked the cpu to 162mhz which I also undervolted to 700. Is there any battery gain out of this, you think, or will just mainly just be performance loss? As adaptive stay on 162mhz quite a lot. Also, any thoughts on the settings "io_is_busy" and "ignore_nice_load"?
This thread is more for my own pleasure to gather all data in one Place I did not yet go I to the depts of Governor configuration. I.e. Interactive you can change the complete behaviour of the governor. Way to much of a hassle. And I start to get the feeling that governors are not THAT important for Battery life with LIGHT workload (aka web browsing, XDA app, sms, what's app. And stuff) still gotta do a Full battery life test from 100% to 0% with all time Screen On. But I'd say that if you get ca. 6h (lowest brightness) with standard interactive you might get between 6:10 and 6:20 with the best batterysavy governor. One one hand your right that every minute more is better, but is it worth the lags, stutter and Page buildup time? Same goes for Undervolting. I doubt you'd get more than 5-15 Minutes out of it. Mainly because that only benefits in high frequency regions, which nearly never are active on light workload. If I get a Z2 soon (maybe) I have lots of time to let my Z run such Benchmarks
Well I guess if you play games the difference in battery life will be bigger when you undervolt. Anyway, great work !

I guess you're right. I mean, today I've been using Smartmax and while there's something nice about it doing all the light things in low clocks, it does obviously often feel sluggish (especially feelable on the keyboard, imo). Im thinking of keeping the phone out of the charger/usb the entire day tomorrow and see how it ends up but for, like you say, what, 20 mins tops more battery - is it worth it? I mean if I wanted a sluggish phone I might as well have stayed with my X8 Interactive does seem to spread out the work on other clocks than max, tho, unlike most of the other governors. The only thing that bothers me about most of the "not-so-much-battery-saving" governors is that they have a tendency to just ramp that clock up to the max, even when phone is just idling (with screen on). I can appreciate the boost for touch/input, tho.

My Nexus 6P lately has been getting really slow after being on for a few days. The heavy-handed WiFi management using the Deep Sleep app has controlled some of the EINT wakelocks, at the expense of delayed notifications. Overall run time is useable, but seems poor for a 3000mAh battery.
Screen Mirroring's Effects on CPU Usage
After Android 5.0 update Screen Mirroring started causing serious input lag and temperature rise on the phone. Phone screen is mirrored to one of Samsung's 2015 Tizen-based TVs. But uses 18% when mirrored to TV. When playing video in default player non-mirrored, mediaserver use 8%, but uses 26% when mirrored to TV. I don't know if this was the case before the update, but now videos started to be choppy when mirrored unlike when I first got my S5. What do you guys think?
