Anyone else get this error? I can't do ANYTHING when this pops up. Can't pull down my status bar, no where to dismiss the message, can't bring up the app switcher, nothing. Only things i can do is hit the sleep button to turn off the screen or hit restart.
A few months ago, i'd get it maybe once a week. Then it got progressively worse to once a day, a few times a day, then eventually it would pop up 15-20 times a day, making my phone essentially useless. Went to an at&t store, and got a new SIM card, hoping that was the problem. That solved the problem for about a week, and it started getting progressively worse again. I'm now getting this error message about once or twice a day again.
I cracked my screen (not huge, just 2 long cracks) a few weeks after getting the phone back in august, so i'd have to replace the screen ($150 locally) before sending my phone into samsung, so i was hoping there was maybe a more simple fix and the SIM reader wasn't physically bad :-\
At&t Samsung Galaxy S4 32gb stock ROM, fully updated firmware, non rooted (can't figure out how)
The sim card issues Is a know issue. I would have samsung fix the screen and the sim card error.
They should fix the sim card issue under warranty but if you try to do the screen your self they may chard for the repair. Most likely like mine it was the main system board that needed to be replaced.

I had my main system board go bad on my s3, and they told me if the screen is cracked, the warranty is automatically void. So i had the glass repaired locally ($130) and then shipped it out to samsung to get looked at. Unfortunatly they completely whiped the entire phone (internal memory) to replace the board, obviously. I'm really hoping they wouldn't have to do that with this phone, since it's just a piece on the board and not the board itself.
Are there any threads that talk about this issue? I'd like to do more research before spending the money to have it repaired

because that doesn't fix it nor does a new sim card it's a known Samsung problem and one I've been battling for months I believe it's a software problem that Samsung is aware of. Here's the other thread.

I haven't been able to confirm it yet but I think I might have a solution. I was going to wait a couple of days before posting but then I figured that I can post and collectively we can get a better sample size of data to come to a conclusion. I had long suspected that this was somehow due to location services as the problem first began for me when I downloaded Find my Friends and Glympse. I tried everything under the sun, factory reset, new roms, disable xposed, adding apps back one by one to find the cluprit (over 400!), paper in the sim tray to improve connection, everything!
The other day I had just freshly restored my phone from a Nandroid backup as I had noticed that when first restoring the phone would seem to remain problem free for a couple of days before I started getting the messages again. Well yesterday I was problem free until about 20 minutes after I first downloaded an application from the playstore following the reset. Then it hit me, all the other times the problem starting popping up again was always right after downloading all the of the application updates that piled up since my last backup. Initially I always thought that one of the application being updated was the problem (thus the adding of them one by one!) but in that moment I also realized that my Playstore app on the backup was the older version and would get updated when I made my first download. The problem must be with either The Play Store or Google Play Services! I used my trusty Rom Toolbox to go check the latest update for play services and, sure enough, play services had been updated maybe 5-10 minutes prior to the problem, probably receiving the prompt when I first tried to download something, or in the original cases, when I started the updates!
The Solution!
I froze Google Play Services as a test and low and behold, no pop up for over two days! But Google Play services is so engrained in our phones that suddenly my playstore didn't work, maps was acting wonky, and Google Now wasn't playing nice anymore. So I went back to Rom Toolbox and defrosted Play Service but turned off all location based intents, receivers, and services. Since then I'm almost 1 day error free and haven't seen any adverse effects in maps or navigation resulting in the disabled receivers, intents, or services. The answer seems to have something to do with Google Now's Location services which are constantly pinging your location. I haven't seen this fix recommended anywhere (and I've checked!) so hopefully this helps some of you out. I'd love to hear back about your results one way or the other.
Unfortunately for those of you who are not rooted, this fix does require root access and an root application manager that can manipulate receivers and intents. If you are not rooted you can try deleting the data from play services and removing updates. It may help temporarily but you may end up needing to do it regularly. You can also just disable play services all together if you can do with Google Apps.
Did anyone ever find a solid fix for this? I've been plagued with this problem and would really enjoy a solution.

Not an option, I don't have a warranty on the device seeing as it was purchased through a 3rd party. I am very tech savvy and have plenty of resources (tool wise) at my disposal. Just can't figure out what is going on here.

I bought it through a third party too. From a local cell phone shop. But it wasn't tampered with inside so they gladly fixed it. Of you want I can send you the log report of the fix and you can see what you need to fix in order to get it working again.

I've been getting the error for a couple of weeks on my stock AT&T GS4. I've had it since release from May 2013 so about 18 months old, and out of warranty. I just recently got the OTA update for 4.4.4 so I thought maybe it had something to do with that but looks like this has been an issue for a while, and not with just the GS4 (or just Samsung phones, but HTC and others also). So your solution made the most sense....something that is common on all the phones would be the Google Play services. After reading, I turned on the location services on my phone and it immediately got the SIM error. So after the reboot, I cleared the data for the Play services and am hoping this will take care of it. Pretty big issue if its caused by Googles apps/services.
Other solution I saw was this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56806072&postcount=238
That is too involved for me to try out so I'm really hoping this Play Services thing will work. But the way he describes the issue is very similar to mine...seems to be the worst when I have the phone in my pocket walking around (although it does happen when the phone is just sitting there on the desk too). I've also noticed its a little better with wifi off.

Hope it works! I ended up getting the messages again anyways though I do find that whenever the message pops up, if I delete Play Services Data it seems to last a little while before the next message. I'm still not totally convinced that it's not a software problem, as you said, it's an issue that happens on a couple of devices though it does seem to be epidemic on the S4. I've since given up on my S4 and just got my OnePlus One today! Personally, I've given up on Samsung. I've been a diehard Samsung fan for many years but my experience with my S4 has totally soured me on them; it's a piece of crap! They're becoming everything I've ever hated about Apple. I'm jumping ship to OnePlus; same specs, half the price. Except the lack of an SD card which really bothers me... But not enough to pay 300 bucks for it!
solved by switching filesystem to f2fs
I have been experiencing 'sim card removed' problem for almost 5months but recently when i switched filesystem from ext4 to f2fs i have not encountered the problem anymore, counting, 3days.
Here's what i did. I just installed cyanogenmod 12 for s4 i9505 by AntaresOne and just followed all steps from the link below including switching from ext4 to f2fs using TWRP. http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/i9505-orig-develop/rom-cyanogenmod-12-t2943934
Im sure that it has nothing to do with changing my rom from touchwiz4.4.2 to cyanogenmod 12[5.0.1 lollipop], which required wiping my data, cache and formatting my system, because i still encountered the problem with new the rom with the existing/default ext4 file system.
This is just pure observation, i cannot explain the mechanism with the use of f2fs in relation with sim card functionality. It has worked for me so far and the cyanogenmod12 in the link works really smooth. Please proceed with caution!
Just started getting this problem last week. Like the rest of the posters in this thread, I've tried a plethora of troubleshooting ideas to no avail. Pretty sure my phone is out of warranty but I will check...but the number of major and minor annoyances experienced with this phone and Samsung as a company ensure that I will never buy a Samsung phone again.
My i717 needed rebooted several times a day because of the SIM Card Removed error. After a few months, my charging port started going and ultimately broke. I've ordered two new ones, but they affect my cell reception, so I'm waiting on a third. Point is, after getting a battery wall charger and re-installing the old charging port board, the SIM Card error has stopped happening. Leads me to believe it has something to do with the charging port or the board it's connected to. Just my two cents.
Could you try liquidsmooth 3.2milestone. I had this issue as well but using this ROM i have no problems? Software vs hardware who knows!!

Hi,
Have same problem for while, and have tried many thing. In the end, I found that as long as I keep the NFL feature on. The phone seem to be OK. People try it out, hope it work out for you.
Ryan
I've had this issue since last year and posted in this thread back in November 2014 when it first started. Living with this for almost a year but it hasn't been too bad once I realized how it works. Basically every time I have to reboot the phone, the issue starts up. It'll last anywhere from a few days to a week or so but eventually it stops on its own. Those few days can be frustrating because it can literally reboot on you every couple of minutes at times. Obviously you have to reboot your phone every time you get the SIM error, but the trick is not to restart your phone otherwise because you never know which time it will finally be stable. I have gone months without rebooting my phone once I figured this out. Only time I reboot is when its forced because I can't get to a charger in time and the battery dies.

I am on my fourth one (long story -- don't ask). I get this fourth one, everything works fine and dandy for a few hours. Then the same problems that happened to my last one are happening again. Random apps are trying to download and they show up as downloaded "unsuccessfully" and when I try to download apps they are stuck at "Starting download...". I thought this problem on my third Vibrant was caused by me messing around with flashing some custom ROMs, going back to stock, etc. (after the JI6 upgrade via Kies bricked by Vibrant). However, the replacement I just got - one that I have not done anything but rooted - is now having the same problems. Random apps are downloading by themselves only to be downloaded unsuccessfully and I can go longer download any apps from market - they are all stuck at "Starting download...".
So, then I thought maybe it wasn't the Vibrant that is the problem -- maybe it is my sim card. So yesterday I swap out sim cards, and the problems still occur. Maybe it is the JI6 update that is causing problems, or maybe I am just cursed when it comes to the Vibrant but this phone has been nothing but trouble for me since I got it in July...
That said, anyone have any helpful tips on how to get my issue resolved? Otherwise, I am going to call up T-Mobile and move to myTouch HD (when it comes out) or G2 (I really don't want G2 cause of physical keyboard and rootkit).
Sounds like reception problems. It happens every so often to me. Definitely not reason to return the phone unless it happens more often than not. Considering it's your fourth phone...
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
It isn't reception issues. I have full bars, can surf the Internet, etc. and even tried it on WiFi. There is definitely something wrong. It isn't the sim card (I swapped it out). It isn't my Google account (I tried different ones). It isn't the specific Vibrant I have (I just got an exchange two days ago -- both phones had same problem).
So all I have left is either it is JI6 causing the issue or a rogue app. I just did a factory reset to see if maybe that solves the problem. If it doesn't, well, bye bye Samsung hello HTC.
The chances that both phones would have this obscure market problem is very unlikely. Given that all other data services work well, have you ever considered that maybe it's Google's market servers? Did you sign into your Google account then immediately start to download all of your paid applications while it was syncing all of your contacts and email? Are you over dramatizing the problem? Again, this is your fourth phone...
user error?
Not the phone, it's your location/service. I have issues downloading from market at certain places even with full service also. It's poor data connections I believe.

I can't be Market. The downloads are working perfect after a reset that took a mere two minutes. Market up and down in two minutes? I doubt it. The real test is to see if it will continue to work, because it is after a few hours that the problems occur.
Syncing works fine all the time, and market works perfect after the initial setup. It is after a while that it messes up... I don't know whats up.
That said, why would I be over dramatizing the problem? To get pitty on XDA?

Could be JI6 caused some location-only issue? Because I was able to use my Vibrant just fine for 1-1.5 months without this issue. This issue really only showed up for I upgrade to JI6.

rogue app. man I was going nuts when I first got this phone, because randomly it would reboot and go into a boot-loop. after trial and error, I found out is was THE Hero of Sparta HD game from gameloft.
I would reformat and install the basic apps first, then the extras, one by one... to see if you have a bad app. Its the only way I got the the end of my problem.
Stock J16 or a J16 build?

It's your Google account at this point. Swap it out for another!

The Google account may be the problem..... but not convinced I think the statement (user error) look in the mirror is more correct. BTW, I always use wifi in updating it is just easier and faster, I would assume that you re doing the same.

yeah. I have the same problem. it seems to be location specific. it sounds dumb but when I'm in the mall area near my house i have all but one bar full 3G connection (and that stays pretty consistent give or take a bar or so) and both market and browser have major issues. if you try a bunch of times it might go through occasionally but for the most part it says I have a great connection but I don't. but when i leave the mall area all is fine again. its a pretty large area about a mile square or so. I also drop calls alot there. its really weird. wifi works fine usually although some public wifi connections have the port you need to download from the market blocked so don't get frustrated if that doesn't work either. internet browsing works fine over wifi though
my wife has the exact same phone and has the exact same problems in that area so I'm pretty sure its not the phone
also oddly I never tried using my phone at the mall before the JI6 update (Which I got OTA not a manual install) so I suppose it could have to do with the update but I cant confirm that.
I can say that my Mytouch 3G worked in the same area just fine (although its been a month or so since I tryed it), so its kinda weird.

A little confusing here since you were able to flash custom roms successfully which is much more harder and dangerous for you and most of us here, AND you can't still figure out how to get the market app working properly? hmm..Not to blame directly on you but your case MUST be very rare.
Earlier, my G2 shut off on me about 5 times. -_-
First, I had it sitting in the car ,tried to take a pic but the stupid voice recognition menu kept coming up so I gave up and set it down in the console. When I got home, the phone felt warm and was.. off.
Then, I turned it on.. stuffed it in my pocket. A moment later, I pulled it out and YET AGAIN when I pushed the button I was greeted by a quick vibe and the HTC screen -_-
Then a few minutes later I ran a speed test (checking HSPA+ out in Vegas).. put it down on the table.. come back.. PHONE IS *(@#% DEAD AGAIN.
I HATE YOU! *glares at phone*
It's killing me because it either happens several times in a row, or doesn't happen for days! I've tried replacing the sim card, replacing the SD card.. moving the battery... no dice.
Maybe it's my SIM card? Would that cause it? My last phone did that -_- And I'm silly to have not yet changed the SIM lol
Good thing I have a spare sitting in my bag.
What battery are you using? Aftermarket? Is so, did you remove the sticker around the battery? If you did then make sure you place a piece of tape on the battery to avoid making contact with the metal sd card holder. The metal on metal causes it to shut down.

Interesting. I've also been having random shutdowns (not reboots, which I've seen mentioned elsewhere, due to a hardware fault) --
HTC Desire Z, using default battery, but I'll try isolating it anyway with a slip of paper or something.
OP you on a custom rom with overclock? maybe your clocking your phone too high or low?
Also if the phone for whatever reason gets too hot or cold it will turn itself off.
Please see this forum: Phone powers down and won't turn back on w/o pulling the battery
I strongly believe that this may be an issue with the GPS and/or Google Maps. Once I have the GPS off, this has not occurred. Can anyone else try this?
I have the Bell Desire Z NAM with stock HTC Sense 2.2 ROM.
It seems to be quite prevalent, see the bottom of this review: T-Mobile G2 is speedy sequel to original Android
I think you may be onto something with that GPS note, but my phone doesnt' need the battery pulled to restart.
Also, it's running the stock firmware, stock battery (just exchanged battery and got a new SIM card yesterday, and it shut off again today.. so those aren't the problem)... so any issues I'm having are 100% stock related...
This time it shut off after using Maps so....
i read somewhere (trying to find the source) that some G2's were experiencing random restarts / shutdowns due to low signal strength. Not sure how valid this is but you might want to look into this as well.

This was true before we received the first OTA update. Since then though the problem has been fixed.
I think it was definitely the GPS, that said I just got done with a really long phone call about this and have a replacement on the way.. but that was way too much effort AND I have to pay shipping (it's not much, but seriously.) I'm not happy that T-Mobile was THAT big a pain in the butt about getting the phone replaced with a new one in the 30 day return period.
Going by the pointers one of my close friends on sprint (that used to be on AT&T) gave me, I'd say this could've been worse with another provider.. but it shouldn't have been. The reception isn't the best so the customer service should make up for that, and it sorta does.. but it sorta doesn't.
Oh well.
I have been experiencing almost the same thing for the past week or so. I have tried a few things such as lowering clock speeds, changing roms, and not using maps or GPS. Nothing has stopped the shutdowns. I cant seem to find a pattern in the things the phone is doing when it shuts off because it rarely does it when i have the screen on, also it never does it if music is playing or if i am watching a video. I will say that it seems to happen alot when i am in spots i know are dead spots for phone signal. I flash roms a fair amount so it is hard to say this has started after flashing a rom, but I will say it never did this before I flashed my first sensui 3.0 rom.
I am thinking its one of two things, something with the radio and/or its firmware or something with the sdcard because at least one senseui 3.0 rom said something about sdcard formatting.
I hope all this helps the smart people come up with idea on what wrong with our phones.

My Desire Z had the same problem and I returned it to HTC Service for repair. They said they change some cables? and a new battery. It has been nearly 3 days and I haven't experienced a single shutdown but there was one time it restarted by itself.
Yeah my only problem with that is, I am close to my upgrade date. How much did it cost. I may still do it so I can give this phone to my kid brother.

Possible cause/fix found
I posted this in another thread here regarding the same problem but it appears it may have been overlooked so I'll post the info again in hopes of helping you and others having this problem.
A possible cause/fix has been found as posted on the T-mobile forums:
http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/T-Mobile-G2/G2-Turning-off-by-itself/td-p/513575/page/4
There is a conductive metal strip along the back of the battery that looks like it may be shorting out. Check out the link for detailed fix with pics. I take no credit for this, just posting it since I'm experiencing this problem too.
Talked to tmobile CS today and was trying to get a replacement because my phone would randomly reboot and shut off. All he told me was go and pick up a new sim card. If that didn't help then they would be willing to give me a warranty replacement.

Clicking your link all I got was an empty T-Mobile page with the message "Page not found" and some some java script error message when closing the window.
Is this possible fix something else than lining the back of the battery with a strip of paper?

I'm pretty sure mine is not caused by the metal strip since my battery's all proofed. I didn't have anything wrong with it until about half a month ago, and it always happened after using GPS and left it on. If I turn it off after navigation or any other app that requires GPS the phone won't go into SOD.
I switched back to CM7 RC2 around that time and starting to get the GPS no fix problem, and it could't be fixed by the dd=/dev/.... script. So I switched into Nightly 88 or something that at least I was able to get a fix but the not-so-random freezing started.
This morning I flashed the new 7.1.0 RC1 and the phone would just turn itself off (it used to just freeze and become hot), and I got really tired of it... My old G1 was much more reliable than this.
I tried the dd=/dev script again, so far after 5 min the phone is still on with GPS on....
@carcuote
Thank you! I haven't had this issue for months now. But the solution is so easy to do that I will try our anyways.
I had this issue the first month our so when I got the new phone, but went away permanently after the second month. Maybe the contacts in the battery got a little rusted? Don't know but the solution is simple enough to try...

Hi,
I recently bought my first Android phone in the form of Galaxy Note. However I am so far disappointed with it.
The main reason being that Phone hangs way too often. Earlier I thought it could be due to apps I downloaded from the Android Market. There is no pattern, sometimes it hangs while I am using Market or sometimes when I am browsing Settings menu.
Most of the time when it hangs, I have to remove the battery, put it again and reset the phone. I am really disappointed with my experience. I have already experienced the situation where I could not restart the phone and I had to take the phone to Service center to resolve the issue.
But now even after formatting, Phone does hang intermittently. I am going to take it to the service center but afraid that the issue may not reoccur there and they'll give me some BS reason.
I am not sure if this is a phone problem or Android problem. Does anyone else face the same problem?
P.S. - I have the latest firmware installed on my phone.

Thanks for your reply. Then this must be phone issue. I'll take it to the Samsung service center , let's see what they have to say.
Sounds like a defective phone. Mine doesn't behave like that.

100% you have a defective phone, take it back to Samsung service/repair centre.
Update - I took my phone to Service Centre and to my luck they too experienced the same freezing issue at boot start up. They have kept the phone for inspection and will let me know tomorrow.
I really hope they gave me replacement for my phone. Will update tomorrow.

Yup its a phone issue. My SGN hasnt had any issues yet. I am also using go launcher & added a couple of mods but not a single freeze in past 1 week.
Touch wiz on SGN is laggy compared to other versions.
These things happen to me when I try overclocking / undervolting too much but not on stock firmware. Looks like a defective device.

Try to flash a new firmware and check the problem again.
What have you installed lately?
When I first installed widgetlocker, I tried to set a 5x5 widget grid and my phone hung constantly. Using default grid works fine
Also. Vibrate notify also caused the note to lock up hard. Any system app that flakes out can lock up your phone.
Try to remove your sd card to test.
Some brands of sd card are not compatible with note.

As I had mentioned this is my 1st Android phone (and expensive one ), so I am not very adventurous with it at the moment.
I had downloaded following apps from Android market.
1. 3G Watchdog
2. Lookout security and Antivirus
3. etc
After my 1st major experience with Screen freeze, I performed hard reset and had performed updates for Flash, Google Maps. That's it. Still I found my phone freezing from time to time. There were no custom ROM or widgets on my phone.

I had not put SD card. 16GB is enough for me
As you guys mentioned, the phone was indeed a defective piece. FML
Service center guys wants to replace the faulty circuit with new circuit, however I am insisting on a new piece.
They say they replace the phone only if customer reports the fault in 4 days from purchasing which is BS policy. Not even a week complete and my phone started giving me trouble and they do no want to replace the phone. Big shame on Samsung for such stupid policies.
I have yet to hear from them as they want to speak to Samsung. Looks like I will have to raise storm to get my phone replaced. Rough ride ahead...wish me luck

Make sure you not set the phone in save model.
If you use the Go Flash Light App, unload it
If it still not work, you'd better send it to Samsung center for change.
Or you can try to boot the phone.
I had "Warning Camera Failed" problem on my SM-G900SW (S5 in Canada), along with some other weird problems.
After reading an announcement from Samsung that the problem is ROM related download the stack image for my device/provider from Samfirmware and re-flashed the phone.
The problem went away, and so did some other issues.
This is definitely a software issue IMO.
I've read that it only happens to US version of the phone when the user installs another camera app.

To add to this, after I flashed the stock firmware everything was fine for a few days until suddenly I was unable to turn on Bluetooth. So the camera still worked, but bluetooth stopped working.
I took the phone back to the store, showed them the problem and exchanged. In the process of exchanging it I did a factory reset to remove personal data. When the reset was done, I turned it on to make sure my accounts were gone, and lo and behold the camera and bluetooth worked again.
I still went through with the exchange since this does seem like a problem related to the storage memory becoming corrupted after a bit of use.
I've had the new one for 3 days, and so far no problems.

Seeing as I'm Canadian, nope.
I'm not sure if i ever saw this problem somwhere else and search didn't give any results so i decided to create a new topic. Currently I'm on att galaxy s4 complete stock 4.4.2 NC1 version, rooted. No other mods (like xposed frames ) are installed. So here is the problem. From time to time my network signal gets stuck (so far i noticed that when i have a low signal, 1-2 bars) and no internet or a network signal are available. 4g icon is still there with outgoing signal animation, but that's about it. I can't make calls, can't browse internet and flight mode is not working (network icon won't change to the airplain icon). The only thing that can bring my phone back to being an actual phone and not a tablet is a reboot.
Please ask if any additional information is required to detect the problem.
Thank you.
P.s. sorry for any grammatical mistakes.
Same here but no root. I have gotten a new sim, been on with att tech support and had them do a factory reset and gone so far as to get a replacement device from att but still the same thing. My wife tells me that sometimes her calls go straight to voice mail. I don't know its happening unless i try to do a search or use an app that needs data. A reboot fixes it right up, until it loses connection again. I've been using an app called "att mark the spot" but it's hard to use if you don't have a data connection.
Today i went to the att device support center (not att, a contractor) on Powers Ferry Rd in Atlanta and they did a flash of the rom. They said it replaced the rom from scratch...not just a factory reset. My instructions were to add apps back slowly over time and to read the permissions and not add apps that wanted permissions that i wasn't comfortable with.
We'll see what happens...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I thought the recommendation to check the permissions was bunk but as I add apps back I'm finding that it might not have been a bad idea. So far I've added back Google Finance and Pocket Casts and there were no permissions that I thought were over the top. When I got to Yahoo Mail I was shocked at the permissions that they wanted. Maybe I've found the culprit.

BTW - last night I rooted with towelroot and installed titanium backup. Time to get rid of some att and samsung bloat and maybe try a rom or 2.

I got all unnecessary app frozen (like yahoo, att and samsung stuff) so i don't think that problem is in permissions.
P.s. you should check facebook permissions, that's where it gets scary.
So my phone locked up a time or 2 again today and had to be rebooted. The new rom didn't fix the problem. I'm going to put one of the custom roms on and see what that does. Haven't decided which one yet. I still have 45 days left on the 90 day warranty on this replacement device but who cares at this point...
Both my wife and I have unrooted AT&T GS4s and have had the exact same issues ever since the NC1 update was pushed out. We have both gotten updated SIM cards and the problem has not gone away. The only thing that I have found that helps is to reboot in the morning when I wake up and again as I leave work.
Which firmware are you guys using? Since my problems started when NC1 came out I think that is causing the problem.

I had my phone changed yesterday by ATT and as they did it, they told me that some phones have a bad sim card slot. Let's hope that this was a problem. I will try to report everyday if it's acting out again or not.

Before i went to ATT and re flashed my phone back to NC1, coz i had some GPS problems that i couldn't fix, I had a custom NB1 rom ( i had a few different ones). Before my samsung phone i had LG Thrill 4G, and i faced a similar problem. After an official update to 2.3.5 my phone wouldn't receive any messages or calls, until i unlock the screen. I really do hope they didn't **** up the NC1 update like this and it was just a faulty sim card slot as they told me.

Ok, I am half way into my night shift at a place where I had these network freezes. I am on a new phone, not rooted, complete nc1 stock. There hasn't been a single incident so far. I'm starting to believe that it was indeed a faulty sim card slot. You might want to try to exchange your phone again. And if they don't believe you, just wait while your network freezes again and bring your phone to the store.
I'll keep reporting for a few nights more.
