dumb question but can I just push the radio file? - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

on 4.2.2 and I made the mistake of installing fqrouter to try and let my note 3 become a wifi repeater.
Long story short my tethering doesn't work anymore so I'm just wondering if I can push the radio and if that will re-write my wifi drivers?

[Q] Encrypt Nexus 7 or not?

Any thoughts on encryption? Any input from people that have done it?

Doesn't seem like OTA updates work with encryption, I planned to encrypt mine like the rest of my stuff but not if I can't get updates.

Was your GNex rooted and encrypted?

Personally, I think that unless you actually have something important and confidential to protect, it really doesn't warrant the use of encryption. It makes things a pain in the arse e.g. updates, some recoveries don't work with encryption etc.

I have found in another thread the JP1082 drivers for this USB/LAN adapter, but I have no idea to how use these files! Which is the procedure to install the drivers on our TF101?

Kinda looks like you don't know how to use xda to read either..
Wrong section to post first off.
Then 2ndly you need to read the thread that has all the info you need concerning usb ethernet connectors.
Last but not least.. You expect people to read your mind..
No operating system indicated..
Which may save you all the headache in actually playing with drivers..
Search function is your friend...

[Q] Nexus 10 Root

Hey, haven't really posted here before and sorry for asking a question that's probably been asked a million times, but I've just had an information overload today.
I rooted my Nexus 10 today using the CF Auto Root, which also unlocked my bootloader. I won't really be tampering with much on the device as the main reason I wanted to do it is to use my PS3 controller to play games. My question is, what do I need to do with my device still to ensure it doesn't encounter any difficulties with the root?
Sorry again for the basic question, and thanks in advance!

No it's all fine. And since it is a Nexus it's unbrickable.. Or you have to do something really stupid.. You can fix it almost always.

If something does go very wrong, just restore the factory images. Welcome to the wonderful world of rooting!

I'm returning the tablet since there isn't a working root method anymore.
They have something call safestrap for the locked vzw s4. I'm sure it can be ported over to the note if you get in contact with one of the devs working on it.

I reached out to a few developers and haven't heard back. Hopefully, I'll be able to find a dev that will take interest in our device. The biggest reason I want to root is to make all apps multiwindow without having to connect the tablet to the PC to modify APKs.

Thanks for being a smartass. If you read my post it clearly says WITH THE LATEST OTA UPDATE. I just purchased the tablet and it already has the latest OTA update installed.
If you're not interested in discussing the topic at hand, kindly piss off. Otherwise, please, cite your sources on how "using my computer for a few minutes" will root/unlock my note with the latest OTA update.

If all you really want is root access then it might be easier. Have u tried this yet? This is for at&t, there is one for vzw too. It's a risk since it's made for the s4 tho be warned.

[Q] wifi tether?

Has anyone gotten Wifi Tether working on the Sprint version of the G2?
I just got this phone and rooted it and installed TWRP. Wifi Tether doesn't seem to work. It starts with warnings. the logs says: "Setting ad-hoc mode failed"
I've tried the latest Stable version, as well as the beta and experimental versions.
To add to the multitude of these threads that are already here, why not. I have managed to get it to not throw any errors, however it doesn't appear to broadcast its SSID. Same story with Wifi Tether Router.
Nope. There's no working way. I've been using PDANet to USB tether.
Sent from my LG-LS980 using xda app-developers app
Are you getting data throughput? I can live with no ssid broadcast see you can just manually set an ssid. The lack of data throughput is the problem though.

No, I tried manually creating the network on my laptop and it still couldn't see it. inSSIDer on my laptop didn't see it, so it's an issue with the app to wifi chipset.

I wish others would follow suit, I think I created one of the first threads on it....and it promptly lost traction. I managed to get wifi tethering up and running for a bit using some iptables script I found in the HTC one forum, but it stopped working after a minute or two. I'm about to have to go back to our old GS3 because I live off tethering for work when I'm at client sites who don't have wifi.

Well I'm patiently waiting for something to develop. I would be willing to even donate for the cause.
The thing is do we know how Sprint does tether provision checking? I looked at the GS4 hotspot mod zip files and it looks like the services.jar file was modified to get wifi tether to work. I wonder for the Sprint LG G2 if the behavior is the same where we have to modify the "services.jar" file to get wifi tether to work.

I did exactly the same thing, ran out of time trying to figure out how to repackage the smali files or something. I found the differences between the two though.

How did you decompile the services.jar in the first place? Don't you just do the reverse to repackage it? Do you mind explaining the tools you used and the specific smali files and lines that you saw that were differences. I want to see if I can replicate this.

Apktool, read up on that. I was able to extract it enough and ran out of time. Work/family are consuming everything now, no time to learn a new skill.

I just rooted my shiny-new Sprint G2, in hopes of getting tethering going, as well, but disappointed to find out we haven't got a working method for it yet. I noticed they got it working on Verizon via a custom provisioning APK over here. I'm no developer though, so will just keep my eye out for a fix, thanks.
I havent looked but I thought I heard rumblings about the sprint moto x getting tethering working. My guess is the files would be similar as tethering is a sprint thing. Maybe taking a look at what some other recent devices are doing to get thethering to work on sprint would help. Im no dev so I cant do much but its just a thought. Checking out some other recent sprint devices and their tethering issues/resolutions, if any, might help.
