Rooted & Locked BL :: System Version : 98.30.1 - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi ,
I have locked BL & System Version : 98.30.1. From the search i came to know that it can not be unlocked but I rooted it to install some of my favorite applications.
Now the question is if I update to KK, Will it retain my root access ?
if this question is asked before than sorry for this.
Thanks

sweet, I am off to claim my rights. I have received OTA update as well but not sure if that's support rooting?

So here's only the short instructions: flash the included .tar.md5 as PDA using Odin, and make sure repartition is not checked. You should see a red Android coming up, and your device will be rooted. If the device boots normally without the red Android, reboot into recovery manually to trigger the process.
This root will trigger the flash counter, which you can reset (currently only the Qualcomm variant) using Triangle Away.

Qualcomm-based GT-I9505: http://download.chainfire.eu/316/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505.zip
(Should work on MD2 and newer, but not MDN and MDM firmwares)
NOTE:
Some have reported success on Sprint S4's, though I still advise against using it and waiting for a Sprint specific version.
AT&T S4's are locked, do not use this root unless you have unlocked it
VZW S4's are not seen in the wild yet, but I fully expect those to be locked as well, and incompatible with this root before a bootloader unlock

[Q] Does the new root method mean new unlocked bootloader methods?

Does the new root method mean new unlocked bootloader methods? or is the bootloader itself the problem and not root?
Thank you for your patience and answering me.

Root only. Boot lock is another, much, much tougher, animal.

Like Avi said, two totally different things. There was an update in May and it also blocked root and the unlock method. They were able to gain root again, but the BL is much more involved.

Cool thanks. What can I do with root on 9.18.94 with a locked boot loader?

You can install SafeStrap and install another stock ROM on slot 1. Then, you can use Xposed to add all kinds of customization and you can flash a mod that allows init.d to allow you install init.d tweaks. Doing all of this on your safe slot will keep you from messing up your stock slot. If you get everything set up in slot 1 and it runs well, there is a way to restore it on your stock side, but I won't go into that now.

2nd shows the stock slot replacement, once you know all works. 3rd - user who 1st posted the steps
I followed your instructions for installing safestrap but my phone isn't allowing me to create a ROM slot. On any of the slots its just greyed out.

Maybe you don't have enough space on your internal memory. When you go to create a rom slot, check how much space is required and how much is available

After rooting, install hashcode's SafeStrap (in android development section). Then you'll be able to install any TouchWiz based ROM (Verizon).

Use this link and it will tell you everything you need to know to root the verizon. and load custom roms. It is what i followed.
However if you have any troubles with kingo not rooting your phone, then try Kingo 1.1.6 version. Look at My sig down below at exactly what i did.

Is there still a way to unlock it for custom roms? I've been away from forums for a while and never updated my G2 yet.

[Q] I just rooted my M, is it safe to install Xposed on the stock rom?

So this is not my first rooted device but it is my first time rooting my Razr M since it got upgraded to Kit Kat. It is also my first time installing Xposed so some help would be appreciated.
Yes is safe to install xposed... here is a nice collection of modules ... Be sure to unlock your boot loader before the next ota is pushed as when the next ota comes we may not be lucky enough to find a root method...

Is unlocking the bootloader necessary if i don't plan on installing any custom roms? If i needed to return to stock i could just use RSD right?

When the next ota update comes you will lose root and if there isn't a root exploit for that version with an unlocked BL you can always flash SuperSU via recovery and get root back... And yes rsd is an option to return to stock to accept the next ota
