I'm having trouble getting my Samsung Galaxy S5 DE device recognized. I'm trying to backup partitions (script by @pball52998) but the phone will not connect and adb doesn't see it on Mac. I'm on stock rom but rooted. ADB dubbuging is enabled on phone. I'm on the latest version of ADB and it had worked with my previous droid from HTC. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the adb program along with kies which is now uninstalled so I can use Android File Transfer. I DO NOT have access to ODIN on a PC! And it's a hassle to borrow PC from friend. So please do not ask about PC options.
Methods and troubleshooting:
Tried checking on/off debugging in developers options. Result was no change. Left enabled.
I can not find adb_usb.ini file

Already did. Doesn't work. I went back to stock ROM that I'm not able to tether. Everything else works write to ext SD card and I'm rooted.
Never mind I was talking about tethering not adb.
If you are trying to just back up partition. Just open terminal emulator and run as su then just dd from there

Many days ago I backed up via TWRP thru phone. Restored successfully. Don't need a PC with Odin or to use emulator. I'm on unlimited data and can't tether hotspot no one has seem to find a work around. My connection gets blocked using FoxiFi and PDAnet USB and Bluetooth and as WiFi.
I tether everyday, I'm unlimited as well.

I think it was you who I talked to and tried semi stock ROM with hotspot patch and I said it didnt work for me! How is it you got it to work!? I didn't do anything but flash alongside ROM before. Do you have a workaround for stock ROM?

I could make a modified framework-res.apk for odex but honestly if you couldn't get the Wifi hotspot to work on the rom it was baked into then I doubt you will have any luck with it.
If you are the guy from DF it sounded like you had other items other than a fresh install without a restore of apps and data.

Indeed I am that guy. As i said before it was a fresh install with the rom+hotspot patch and said it was successfully installed. I then wiped cache, davilk and proceed forward. I did not go into titanium to restore apps and data however Play Store had started auto restoring apps but i had stopped it.

No just auto restores all apps i had. Does it when you setup phone as new. Yes please do try to make an oxidized patch. I've noticed that this phone uses lots of ram out of 1.8GB usually between 300-700 gb is left. I've uninstalled bloatware bloatware.

Thats the super user app right? Use that and everything can be done? and does rooting void warranty?

I flashed the cwm before I got root, is this why I was having issues with my phones functionality? It stopped acting out when I flashed the penguin .exe
Or are these xposed links to apps that fix that erratic behavior from our SGL?
And do I need install these xposed if my phone seems to be working better than ever?

odin flashed gardaltetmo_cwm.tar.md5 then my phone was acting funny, slow and apps would seen to just forget they were running. I was so tired I flashed cwm before I had root. I thought at the time that it was the cwm causing the issue.
So I got on my pc and read more off the thread and eventually came across an app that looked allot like odin. Shabbypenguin or something. After flashing root my phone was even more responsive than the day I bought it.
Still don't know what those Xposed links are for...

The Xposed links are so you can install the Xposed Framework and any modules for it. The RootCloak module lets you hide root from apps. Isis, for example. I haven't found any other fully functional/useful modules yet. Wanam Xposed and Advanced Power Menu looked promising, but don't work perfectly with Touchwiz roms.
As far as freezing/random app crashes, I have not had any issues. I'm using the "Stock" kernel that shabbypenguin first posted, I think his One Click exe may use a different one. Still have the stock recovery, waiting for an Online Nandroid Backup patch before changing to CWM. I also use ES Task manager's Kill All widget after every reboot and clear cache data frequently.
I wish I had the experience. Probably would've kept stock recovery myself. But I was impatient. Without nandroid i really shouldnt be messing w cwm.

You can adb push the stock recovery to /mmcblk0p10
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2605407&d=1393583876, extract , get the recovery.img file inside the extracted folder
Do a full backup from CWM recovery first, just in case. Or you could reflash CMW with Odin, in case or failure. I really need to make an Odin flashable zip of the stock recovery.

Xposed has a module that can successfully hide root for ISIS and OTA update. When my device was working I verified. I'm currently trying to learn how to build Cyanogenmod 11 for the SGH-T399 since I'm soft bricked / boot looped until an update from T-Mobile surfaces for Kit Kat.

The modem itself needs flashed in the phone slot to stick, but fair warning - so far it can't be reversed.
(Oh, and thank @crawj for reminding how we did on S4, turned out same trick worked.)

Hi everyone. Bare with me a little. I'm new at this and cannot post in ROM thread because I am a noob. I've done a lot of reading and learned how to pretty much break everything but I did manage to get it working again in stock form. I am trying to set everything up for AutoDroid and a car installation and cannot seem to get it working.
First things first, I successfully rooted the Nexus 7, installed custom recovery (TWRP), Installed SuperSU, installed the Kangaroo Kernel, and flashed the AutoDroid ROM. That's where I am at this point. The problem comes now where I don't have volume buttons on the nav bar and see no settings menu to change any options. I manually installed Power Event Manager and gave it access via SuperSU. The tablet doesn't go to deep sleep when removing power.
Current Settings:
*see attachment*
Does the tab need to be in host mode w/ OTG for PEM to work?
Where are the settings for the ROM?
If I don't have volume etc on nav bar does that mean it wasn't flashed properly?
What did I do wrong?
Sorry for all the beginner questions but I've gone thru hell with this. Have learned a ton tho. I managed to remove the OS and all recoveries so I had to reimage the tab w/ stock OS.
TL;DR: I suck at computers. I need help.

I was reflashing and factory wiping but it wasn't working. I went to Advance wipe in TWRP and wiped Dalvik, cache, system, and data and boom Worked! Guess Dalvik and factory wasn't enough. Pretty much followed install directions for Slimkat. Can't believe it took all this.
Thank you for all the help.

Great job
Hey -- Great job. I had absolutely no issues loading the ROM with CWM and then doing the initial startup configuration (including voicemail). After that, all my apps installed like a breeze (even the Z Launcher TouchWiz replacement). Now, the WiFi tether works like a dream and it's actually faster to use than the stock rom.
My only wish is that I could make Mercury the default browser because even Chrome is a little touchy on sites like XDA and Reddit. Anyway -- great job on this port and on how solid it is.

Did you have the same issue on CM11? I did. The only fix I found was to flash a Touchwiz rom and connect the GPS once booted up. Then, leaving the GPS on, flash back to CM. So far the fix has stuck through many reboots.

GPS Working
Hey thannks very much for the help. The method using sourceforge files worked perfectly.. Evrything is working on this rom until i bounce up on something else..
I don't know much about the process of a flashed phone as my Sprint S4 is flashed to Boost Mobile... I can't get this Ron to work properly although I haven't done an internal wipe... unless Phils Recovery factory wipe for a new Rom does that... but if not would an internal wipe affect the flash at all?

I tried TWRP as well with the same results.... when i goto phone settings the Carrier doesnt allow me to edit and the Voicemail setting is dimmed and cannot get into it at all.. and i have pushed the APN but still nothing.. since i am running a flashed to Boost phone... i should still get 3g but dont work
What's the path to delete and add the new apn file?? Everything works except data.
What version of TWRP are you using, if you are using and old one update it that maybe is the root cause of your problems.
Gabe.

1. the ROM is been download from another device or from S4.
is the answers is S4 you need to download from a netbook laptop or PC. you maybe got a corrupted download.

Found the apn conf.xml file.
Es Explorer won't let me erase original file nether replace it with the one downloaded. Root explorer let's me erase one and replace it but phone doesn't boot up. So I have to re flash this rom so I can use the phone. So my question is how do I change the permision? Is this done at the pop up where depending what you check, under shows this numbers? 0644 or 7200
