This weekend I was driving along and my CoPilot stopped working. Then I noticed that a couple of other apps weren't working and that the camera said it wouldn't take photo's until I inserted the SD card. I've had an 8GB card in there for the last 18 months.
Taking the card out of the phone and putting it in the PC does nothing. The PC at first says the card needs formatting but if you say yes it just says, insert a card.
I took some pictures at a friends Stag Party and I really need to get these pics off the card. I don't care about anything else.
I've tried a few of these "recover your images from a corrupted or formatted card" programs but they all require the card to be visible to the PC for them to work.
Has anyone get any ideas? Please help me
You could try a differnt card reader/different pc and hope that it works then, but tbo if its borked then with paying lots for data recovery, I'd say your out of luck
Sadly, I think you might be right. Looks like that card has gone to silicone heaven to be with all the calculators.

I would try every usb plug you have on your computer. i had the same problem and i kept at it. it took me several days to finally get it to work & to be honest im not sure why/how it did but i was thankful none the less.
i used this program & like i said i just kept trying. what worked 4 me was i held the card in the computer but only half way which the computer then was able to see the card. if you format the card you will lose everything on it so if you want pics off it & you format it you wont be able 2 recover them.

Thanks for the advice I'll give it a shot.
I thought at least if I could get it formatted then I could use some picture recovery software to get the pics back. It's so frustrating because there are only about 10 pics that I'm even bothered about. Everything else it backed up
hopefully that program will let you see that card, it did with mine eventhough though computer wouldnt. odd i know. i wouldnt apply or mess around to much with that program if you dont know what your doing because you can make it more difficult to regain your images. i gave the link 4 version 5 but i used version 6. i couldnt find it earlier 2 post, sorry. they do have a data recovery program that i used as well but ill have to hunt it down 1st & then i'll post the link.
i bought a hacked 16gb memory stick off ebay (!%$#@&$) that became corrupted and i was able to recover some of my files using the programs below. hope this will help you out.
MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition 6.0
MiniTool Power Data Recovery
Thanks a lot man. I'd managed to find those from your first link. In fact, Partition Wizard actually suggests the 2nd program if the first one doesn't find anything
I've run Partition Wizard against it. It took all night after starting it at about 9pm it finished at 8am this morning. It thought my 8GB card was a 2TB drive but hey, at least it could see something which is more than any other tool.
I didn't find anything using that one but I'm going to try the Power Data Recovery tonight. Fingers crossed.
Looks like the phone, inexplicably deleted all the directories and files that were stored in my 32 GB Class 10 Lexar micro SD card. It happened once, a few days ago, and today I was at the point of listening to some mp3s when I realised that it happened again today, although now only the "music" directory was deleted.
Does anybody have an explanation?
Which rom, anything suspicious installed, anything new installed, rooted, connected it to a different computer, anything else which might help others to help you?
Also, wrong forum.
could be faulty card. also make sure you do not just eject the card from phone and/or computer without first properly unmounting it.
if it is a new card, or you do not care about data on it, reformat with this tool
https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/
Well, I'm on stock ROM KI4 (Android vers. 2.3.4), my phone is unrooted and I never touched the card since I first put it in the phone, 2 months ago. However the first time I had the unpleasant surprise to find all the directories deleted I was on a previous ROM (android 2.3.3), so it seems that the issue is not ROM dependant. I do have quite a few apps that I downloaded from forums and therefore may be suspected to play tricks. It may be these, or it may indeed be compatibility issues with the micro SD, but what seeems strange to me, is that I don't get errrors in reading or writing files on that memory, but simply all of a sudden, at the point of opening a file, I realize the file no longer there together with its entire directory...
Ok, I was just wondering if I was the only one experiencing this issue, and as it looks so, then I'll keep monitoring the situation to see if it happens again, in such case I'll try to investigate more deeply the possible causes.
Thank you both for the useful sugggestions, and kreoXDA for the link to that utility... It may become handy!
And sorry if I am in the wrong forum (am I?). I thought that this was the right one.

If you haven't already, I would strongly recommend checking your SD card using h2testw.
No actually, I haven't... thank you, I'll do it!

There's a similar program, SDCardTester, in the Android market, so you can test on the SGS2 itself.
Ok, that would a more significative test. And it will let me test the card even now that I am away from home and I have no access to a PC. Thank you.
If you bought a 32gb sdcard off ebay at a knockdown price then I suspect you have been conned.
Try the sdcard test as suggested, it is probably a 1gb card with false code.
If it is from ebay, Dont return item either as recorded delivery will be too expensive, greater than cost of card, phone ebay and they should refund you.

No I'm quite sure that the card is not a fake. I have been using it for 2 or 3 months, filling it almost fully with no problems of capacity, speed, data corruption or whatsoever. Yes I bought the card from ebay, but from a well respected seller at "normal" price and it definitely came sealed by the manufacturer in its original blister.
I've just tried testing with SD Card Tester and everything looks OK. I get about 10 MBps r/w that if I'm not wrong is compatible with the class of the card.
I'm suspecting more android or some malware, rather than the card or some incompatibilty issues, to have erased all its contents except one directory with 5 pictures in it.
Well, as I said, for the moment I think the best thing I can do is simply to keep monitoring the situation.
Thank you mates anyway.
You need to do the capacity test...

I have been having a similar issue with a genuine 16gb class 10 from kingston. Files dissappearing or beconing corrupt. Assuming its a faulty card but not had chance to check.

Me too... it's not easy to perform an exhaustive test...
And here we go again... yesterday I noticed that all the apps that were installed on the sd card had gone... this thing begins to hurt my nerves...
Are you sure the files are deleted or did the as card just unmount?
Happened to me and I just restarted phone, all good.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
In fact, that's the first thing I suspected, but unfortunately unmounting / mounting the SD card, even phisically removing / reinstalling it from the slot, and shutting off / turning back on the phone didn't solve the problem...
Well just to give some more info. Its def not a mount/unmount issue as the card contents become corrupt randomly. Im just wondering if its a spec issue as in is class 10 causing a problem. My card is being swapped out by kingston so i will update when I can.

Yet you still haven't followed the advice in the thread, which was to run h2testw or SDCardTester to check the true capacity of the drive, and ensure data written to is is not corrupted.
I too face this similar problem. Use a Nokia 8gb card, don't know if Nokia manufactures it or not. Anyway, my files get deleted too. Apps also get corrupted. Is this a sd card slot problem. Maybe it's faulty?

Hi all,
I'm desperate since I received my new microSD 64 GB (samsung).
When I try to copy pictures or videos from my old 32Gb microSD to the new one the file become corrupted and it can't be seem in the new device (the picture becomes partially blocked or becomes file not supported in any viewer). It does not happen for all the pictures, it randomly happens to a percentage of pictures and video. I'd say 60% more less.
Pictures are really OK in the former SD and when I copy those files to a external HD still OK (all can be seem perfect in the PC from the HD connected by USB). The problem appears only when I try to copy to the new SD and it only happens with the videos and pictures. I can copy to the new SD documents and APKs and files work.
I've tried almost all: format the card several times, copy from the former SD to the new SD directly, from the hrad disk to the new SD but the problem remains.
Any help please?
Thanks in advance,

Yes, you got counterfeit/fake memory. The same thing happened to me. I bought "Samsung" branded memory on Ebay. It came in very convincing retail packaging, yet it was fake. The problem is that the memory card is most likely not a 64GB card, but it's been tampered to look like one. I have a friend at work that bought Kingston memory on Ebay as well and had exactly the same symptom.
As soon as I complained to the Ebay seller, he returned me the money and said that he was out of stock and couldn't send me any new ones... Uh-huh...

I'll try to format again and try to copy the pictures in lots (last opportunity) and if it doesn't work I'll send the sd back to the seller..

Hello All,
Im Hoping Someone Would Be Able to Help me with an issue....
ive got the samsung galaxy s5 SM-G900I with telstra here in Australia, on the 26th of last month i went to my fathers wedding, i was taking photos on my phone with the camera it spent most of its time on the camera app (once closed itself down prob due to inactivity) anyways after a while it stopped taking pictures.... the capture button on screen was grayed out but i could still see through the camera.... i though ok weird and closed the app down and opened it with the same result... then a popup came up that said "Camera Failed" when i pressed ok the camera app closed.... tried to bring it up again and it was a no go so i decided to reboot my phone..... it shut down properly but never turned back on so i though ok maybe it turned itself off so i tried to turn it back on and got nothing..... i pulled the battery out and put it back in and the phone turned on and the camera was working perfectly fine again so i though oh ok glitch but all good.... anyways i went back to taking and i found that all the pics i had taken that day were gone from the SD card...
it took me a minute to relize that all the photos on my card were gone.... i went to investigate and say that the card wasnt mounted under storage and i though all good again and hit mount and nothing happened.... then i saw a notification saying either an unformatted card or an unsupported file system... i checked in another phone with it and got the same issue and it seemed the card had gone bad, anyway i got home that night and plugged the card into my computer and found that the card was reading up as a raw file system.... so i went stright to data recovery but before the data recovery could finish scanning the card all of a sudden there was my sd card reading up perfect in my laptop... which was weird to me as i havnt seen that happen before, so i backed up everything on my card to my computer and plugged the card back into my phone and it came up with a different error i think it said something about the card maybe being corrupt.... so i put it back into my computer and ran a chkdsk on it and it showed that everything on the card was corrupted..... so i decided to wipe the card and start again and i transfered everything back onto it and everything was working perfectly fine as if nothing had happened...anyway fast foward to monday this week and i went to take some photos and recorded a video on my phone (went stright to the SD card) and i checked it afew hours later because i got busy and i had found that everything i had done that day had corrupted and photos that i had taken about 4 or 5 days ago were also corrupted... images that i had seen to be working fine.... so i backed up my SD card again and though ok im gunna have to buy a new sd card and i redirected the save location for photos back to internal storage.... anyway today my SD card was still in my phone... all of my music is on it still and i was listening to music while i was heading out to the shops.... and i noticed that afew of my songs were playing for a second or 2 then skipping to the next or just pausing and throwing an error about the song being corrupt...
so i put the SD Card into my Samsung Galaxy Tab S and the songs that were "Corrupt" on the SD Card were working fine on the tablet..... so i am wondering.... is it the SD Card or the Phone?
thanks Help would be amazing!

I'm not trying to give you a hard time, but that is still hard to read. If I got the gist of your post, you had a camera failed message and apparently SD card corruption.
There isn't enough information (or maybe it's in the middle of those paragraphs) to tell what happened. Probably just a temporary glitch, but you could have anything from an actual camera failure to a physical SD card defect.
Try clearing your system cache. I wouldn't worry about the failed camera message if it doesn't recur. If it does, search for the camera failed threads, Samsung was providing warranty replacements for some early production camera failures.
If you are searching for photos, see if your phone put them on the internal sdcard (since the external SD wasn't accessible). Otherwise you could consider a data recovery app to see if photos can be recovered from your external SD card.
Is your external SD card bad? We don't have enough information to know yet? Do a search for an app to test the card integrity or you can probably use the fsck command to test the card and correct (if possible) filesystem errors, followed by reformatting and remounting the card. The fact that the card was readable on another device doesn't differentiate between an marginal or unstable card and a sound card. You'll have to test and reformat the card to really tell.

thats ok i know your not trying to give me a hard time on it im sorry that its so dificult to read, ill see if i can try this alittle better
on the 26th of last month i was taking photos for my fathers wedding when the camera stopped working, it wouldnt let me take photos so i closed the camera app and opened it again thats when i got the camera failed message
i tried to reboot my phone but it froze during the reboot and didnt start up again so i pulled the battery out and put it back in, when the phone started up again the camera was working perfectly fine but the SD card was coming up as unreconized file system or unformatted,
i got the SD card to my Laptop and the File System Read up RAW i started data recovery and while it was scanning the card everything started working again and i got all my photos back without the need for using data recovery
put the SD card back into my phone and it read corrupt so i reformatted it and restored everything back into it and the card worked fine,
Fast Foward to Monday This Week and i recorded a 10 minute video at 1GB size and took some photos.... and they corrupted.... no issues with the camera or anything like that.
Today i Was Listening to Music that was stored on my SD Card (64GB Class 10 Transcend) and it skipped a song about 2 seconds into it and another song it tried to play and failed coming up with an error about it being corrupt, ive taken the SD Card out of my phone and put it into my Samsung Galaxy Tab S and the songs that were "Corrupt" worked perfectly fine on my tablet
so im wondering if it could be the SD Card or the Card Reader in the Phone? the System Cache in the phone has been cleared.
Thanks i hope thats helped you able to understand it better and again i am sorry for my poor writeing skills

Thank you for going through that again.
The basic question or mystery that we are trying to solve is why does the external SD card only appear to have problems in your phone and not the tablet? And how can we tell if it is a card issue or something other aspect of your phone?
While it could be some problem with your phone e.g. bent or damaged SD card slot, corrupt driver or other causes.. it would be hard to track down without further hints. i.e. there are so many possible causes that we need to narrow it down.
So it's easier to tackle this by elimination. Lets test the hell out of the card because that is easier to do.. and despite the fact that it appears to work in your tablet, it's still more likely to be a card problem. Why would it only affect your phone and not the tablet if it is a card problem? There are lots of reasons, but just to give one example.. it could be a problem on just one area of the card.. and that happens to be where your phone is preferentially storing files.
If that makes sense so far.. then the plan is to see if we can identify a card defect. So.. grab an app that will check for file system errors (chkdsk, fsck, etc), check partition structure and do extended read /write tests on the card. At a glance perhaps one of these apps: Lewy or Dewy.
Most likely you have some bad clusters which fsck or chkdsk could repair. But it's best to run an extended card test.. that may take a few hours but it's still a lot quicker than trying to search for all the possible causes of phone problems. If your card passes with no issues.. I'd be inclined to back up your phone and then install a brand new, 100% fresh and stock firmware temporarily. That should in one swoop tell you if it is a hardware or software issue. Again, we are looking for expedient ways to narrow down the possible causes.
.
i will give u a hint ... try to make your topics, in your case, a loooooot less than your post so a lot more people would help you.

Im Sorry it took so long to reply to you, The 2 apps u suggested did not work they wouldnt detect the SD Card, i put it into my laptop and backed up my data and i ran a chkdsk on it and it came back clean said nothing was wrong with it, i have hard disk sentinel installed on my laptop and ive run a surface scan on it that is doing read write read test selection on 2 passes and has been running all day.... the first pass came back clean on it but the second pass has picked up 4 bad blocks near the end of it... its come up "7/08/2014 9:43:09 PM ! Verify error, Sector: 99480300" afew times with different sectors on it, im wondering if the camera issue i experenced could have caused my card to screw up like this? or even the phone not booting back up without taking the battery out first after the camera issue happened? would you consider Transcend a good brand for SD Cards? mine was a Transcend Premium 300X Class 10 Micro SD Card 64GB, im thinking of getting a 64gb Samsung Pro Micro Sd Card now... are those good?
Hey mate! finally i have someone who has the same issue as me! this happened to me last week. i was going through my photos and they looked to be all corrupted. i didnt take much notice as i didnt really need them. i was at the gym and my music was all gone. it was all saved to my samsung 32gb SD card. i got home and there was a message saying SD card is damaged. i lost everything. i did a format and nothing happened. it still said SD card failed.
i went and bought a new Samsung Evo 32gb SD card and it is doing the same thing. i plug it into my laptop it works fine. when i chuck it back into my s5 it says its corrupt. i have no idea whats going on. SD card reader in the phone maybe damaged somehow? i dont i have ever dropped my s5. its driving me mad.
My wife's 64GB card is now doing the same. Formatted and working twice. Images all saved to cloud but a pain waiting for it to happen again.
Ordered a new 64GB card today. Hoping that sorts the issue. If not its return to store time. Happy knox is intact.

my galaxy S5 does not read SD card also..
i think most likely is the software issue.
Just wanted to chime in here. I have a hardware failure with my s5 SD reader, and it was my fault. I had to replace my digitizer, hence putting My Straight talk sim into a temp phone for a fee days.
I cut my sim down to nano size for the temp phone, then stuck the now nano sim back in the s5 after repair, I didn't have a sim converter, and ended up bending pins. Thankfully the sim still works but I toasted my SD slot. Not only will it not read any SD card, it breaks any working one i put in it. I'm a hardware guy, so I'm going to give a go at fixing it, but I'm pretty sure the whole assembly is soldered to the board, no replacing this assembly. At least I don't believe so.
HELLO everyone.
Please help me with the further painfull problem.
I bought brand new s7 edge. It was great phone. Somehow it transformed in photo destroyer. It has got 64 gb sd card bought brand new also. I save images to phones internal memore and sometimes to sd. It corrupts my photos on regular basis...
I feel like this pgone become piece of ****. I cant actually handle disappearing photos...
To clarify things, i use android ftom the ages of s2. I am familiar with how it works pretty well. However i cant find any logical explanation for that. Please have a look at images attached.
This phone became nightmare. In case of impossible recovery, it is possible to open law case against samsung? It sounds the same as vw selling cars with diesel gas emmision trick. Or even wors imagine buying brand new cars with no brakes.
My sd card works fine. All the photos and videos i took were good for some time. Afterwards it become corrupted.
Quick pick doesnt help. Nomedia files doesnt exist. Tried clearing cach of apps, cleared phone cach through recovery. Phone is full stock.
Sorry if its duplicate thread but xda search doesnt work...
Btw third picture is irrelevant. It showed up us corrupted so i tried uploading it. It seems to be good. Not sure about the others.
Looks like you're using a 3rd party gallery app, Google Photos? Have you tried the regular gallery app?
What is the make and model of the sd card?
Sent from my S7 Edge
Same thing was happening on my S6. Nearly all photos after every rom reflash were corrupted. And they didn't even work on other devices like computer etc. I haven't ever fixed that.
All You can do is download a app that does file recovery. It will scan Your phone for like 5 minutes and then show You all files. Eventually all those pictures will be back but with poor quality. They look like android has cached them or something. They are usually 100-300kb and have weird names with just numbers.
I will later on write the make of my sd card. I believe it is sandisk high class 64 gb bought brand new. Formated in phone. However pictures disappear not only from card but internal memory aswell.
As i didnt flash any roms yet i should be covered with warranty. I feel like this su edge is far from good. Could it be internal memory corruption? Or what...
Update no 1 to the situation:
It all started when i was taking pictures of the clouds. Camera app froze. So naturally i closed camera app and opened it again. Same happened. Shutter button was frozen. And the mini gallery button was unresponsive. Then i restarted the phone. It took ages. I noticed the blue notification led was on for a long time and restart itself took ages. The phone sit there for about 10 min with that blue light. I thought it was dead. It didnt respond to any button combinations, like power press or power long press. Even recovery combination didnt respond. And later on it booted.
Update 2. Now i performed media rescan. I see thumnails but then i press pocture it shows grey screen and same sort symbol of corrupted media file. I took some new pictures of my gf. Looked at them later on. Tried to send them through the mail to gf. She never received no email even though it was said "email was sent" on screen. After a while they was gone. Gone like never existed...

So even after flashing new roms the same happened? I believe it must be faulty memory unit then. That is really sad. I never expected to buy phone for 820 euros and get this piecie of s***...
What happens when you select one of those photos? Do they display?.......
If so, then possibly your thumbnail cache is corrupt.
Try looking in both internal and external SD cards within the DCIM and Camera folders and remove any thumbnail folders, and also look within the Android folder on the root of both cards for your gallery app, and see if there are thumbnail or cache folders within there.
Its also worth trying to delete cache+data for your gallery app. If you remove anything, reboot before opening your app.
If they do not open on selecting, if you have a USB micro sd card reader, then try copying your external SD card contents to PC, format external SD card (via the phone, and not via windows) and copy back
Another thing to try is to clear cache+data for Media Storage.

I think my leftovers were in some data folder or one of the folders in the root directory ( / ). But other than that I guess it has to be a faulty unit. Cause now my S7 Edge doesn't do that anymore.
But don't worry, faulty units are really COMMON. I've had quite many phones with different issues. Some of them had broken USB port, some used to restart every hour or two. But don't think that only Android phones have those issues. My IPhone 6 also had a broken call speaker. And yeah. You have to be REALLY LUCKY to get a device that isn't faulty nowadays.
And if You still have warranty then get a replacement.
Or just try doing a factory reset and maybe it will disappear.
My SD820 S7edge was doing the same thing. I was losing pictures regularly, but only while saving them to the SD card (Sandisk 64 gig). I've been saving them to the internal memory, have had no problems since.
Hello guys. Thanks you all for responds and suggestions. I probably find out what it is. It should be sd cars. I bought lexar 633x 64gb and PLEASE PEOPLE DONT BUY THEM. They appear to change their write permission on the instance without of any luck of going backwards. My explanation for disappearing photos from internal memory sounds like that:
As I explained how it happened for the first time, I used external memory at that instance. Camera app crashed. So I bet Some of the photos was ruined by Android itself because it wasn't able to write into card.
Right now I made full reset through recovery menu. Hopefully my photos won't disappear any more. In a mean time I won't be using any external memory just to clarify that my unit is not faulty. I don't wanna loose the feelings of appreciation for the samsung. You see, before s7 Edge I used note 2 bought back in London. It was brand new and I used it up until 24th of June of 2016. Battery was and still is perfect. I had marvelously enjoyed many different roms and everything I was able achieve with it. I wouldn't bought new one, but camera in the note was desent and it was probably this single reason as I am working as a video maker and hobbyist photographer...
Thank you all again. I will post here if anything comes up.
Glad you've got it sorted, that's why I asked what make the sd card was in my first reply, I had the same problem with a cheap card I brought, now I only by sandisk and only from genuine resellers, plus my photos are backed up to the cloud immediately after I've taken them.
