Video recorder shut down, too hot?! - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Yesterday my s5 stopped recording video. The video option became grayed out and got a message saying the device was too hot and would resume video soon as it cooled down.
It was 90° but never had a phone do that. Maybe it was because I was close to a grill for couple of hours. Anyone else had this happen? Is this common?

I have had the phone a couple days and didnt notice it till today after using the media player for a while.
Not sure if its something common or just my device.

[Q] Nexus 7 - Sound Not Working. Partially.

I received a Nexus 7 at Google I/O, and it had a defective screen, so I had to get it replaced. Now my new one won't play sound. Haha. Bummer.
The weird thing is that it does play alarm and notification sounds, just not the media sounds.
Does anyone with more expertise on Android hardware have any ideas on why this might be happening and whether this is an issue I can rectify personally?
What I have tried so far:
1. Factory reset
2. Checked volumes (All three channels at max volume)
3. Plugged in headphones (this actually produces sound)
If it isn't in the menus, you might need root access and more help...
Have you rooted it yet?
It sounds like media sounds are routed only out the headphone jack.
Given you get alarm and alert sounds, but not media, it sounds like a configuration issue.
Let's give others a chance to chime in and see what is offered up.
Good luck...
Got mine today, got 5 whole hours playing with it and the sound went out, as did the vibration. No sound at all, did a hard reset, nothing. Now sitting on hold with google, waiting to find out how many weeks I am going to have to wait for an RMA.
Don't go to Google. Go straight to Asus.

I am having the same issue. Only audio that works is the email notification. I bought the tablet Monday and the audio stopped working yesterday. I did a factory reset through the settings menu, that didn't help. If i try to go to recovery mode, it freezes on the black google page. I did call asus. After 45 minutes of being asked if i was sure i had the volume on, they asked me to wait 2 weeks and see if an update came through to fix the problem. At one point i was put on hold and encouraged to google search for a solution while i waited. Needless to say I'm pretty disappointed. Any ideas here how to fix this? Do I wait for a fix or walk back into sams club and roll the dice again by exchanging for another? I already reset it and lost my apps and configuration
Thanks
Joe

You know my sound started working spontaneously.. haha. It was really weird. It came and went for a few days and I was still going to send it to Asus, but now the sound is completely there. Try using it for a few days??
Check if your sound works with headphones too.

I didn't think the N7 had a motor for vibration in the first place...
Mine has never vibrated.

Mine does, it stopped working when the sound stopped. Then the sound came on a few hours later, went out again shortly after that, then came back on sometime during the night. Has stayed on since. Fingers crossed it is just a software issue.

lucky. You have a vibration motor???

I have no sound at all, I've emailed Google, as I got bored on hold on the telephone.
N7 does NOT have a haptic feedback motor. Any "vibration" you've been feeling is a result of the speaker playing clicking noises loudly.
Simply put, you never had vibration. Period.

Received mine yesterday and same here - notifications ok, but no media sound through speakers (which is ok thru headphones)
Has everyone's problem 'healed up' or are anyone still without sound/sent their unit back? Are google sending a silent update out to affected machines?
I'm in the UK and am wondering whether to leave it a day or two or try and contact Google/Asus.
Cheers,
Berty
Mine is working fine at the moment. I would update to the newly released version and see if that resolves your issue.
Give it a few days at least, because your warranty won't expire for a year.
Hello
I have got the same problem as thread starter, does somebody ever found a solution for this?
I have noticed that the sound will work for a few minutes after a restart of the Nexus 7, but i disapeares again.
I have Android 4.2 installed and my device is 2 weeks old.
regards.
I got mine replaced and the new one was fine.
I experienced the same symptoms on this thread no media sound through the speaker but would get sound whilst adjusting alarm volume, I managed to fix this issue by doing the following:
Play any song through the media player then plug in the headphones and unplug them again a few times, on my nexus when I unplugged the headphones the song would pause for some reason, so press play and repeat the process. After a few tries the volume came out of the speakers.
Hope this helps some of you

Got my N7 last Augest and it started to have this exact problem last Saturday...tried this one, still doesn't work...
It looks like it's a software issue since notification sound does come out of the speaker, but problem still there after flashing differernt roms...quite a pickle!
no media sound
I have the same problem. Cracked the screen last year and got it fix last week. After I got it back I immediately updated it to kit Kat 4.4.4 (did not check the sound). Media does not work on speakers. Alarm and notifications work. Everything works on the headset

My alarm doesn't go off??

I've had my G2 for a couple of weeks now and the alarm maybe went off 2 times, some say that just like the camera video issue is because of the latest upgrade with Google Now being turned on is the issue and I also have that issue with the video function with it saying 'can't take video while in call' and I'm not in call??
Anyone??

Recurring Sound Issue

This problem keeps happening and it is very bad, for me anyway. Especially if if my alarm doesn't sound or I miss calls (4 calls today).
Basically, the sound will either just...stop or will become intermittent. By intermittent I mean that notification sounds stop in the middle, only getting half the notification, and the volume "beep" only sounds every other time the up or down volume is pressed.
The first time it happened i ended up rebooting and that temporarily fixed the problem. The second time I did the same and wiped the cache. Again a temporary fix. The third time i noticed something again that I had noticed the first time. Youtube videos will not play. I had pulled youtube up to test the sound the first time. At that point I thought it was a problem with youtube or the youtube app, but it happened again exactly the same way. So I killed the youtube app and voila, sound was back. So now I am thinking it was the youtube app. The 4th time, the youtube app was open in the background and I just killed all the background apps. Again, sound is back.
So now I think I have it solved. Something to do with the youtube app, right? Apparently not. Today my sound just...stopped while I was sleeping. I missed four calls from my wife and my alarm did not sound. There were a lot of apps listed in the recent apps but NOT youtube. Not at all. I closed all the recent apps and again, the sound came back.
Is this maybe some kind of RAM management issue? or....I have no idea. It's happened before and after both of the updates.
Not using any kind of external device at all, no headphones or speakers. Bluetooth is off. Location is off, NFC is off, WiFi is off (though it has been on for at least one of the times the sound stopped).
I've had the half notification issue randomly. Not as bad as you though. ?

External speaker fades in and out

I have had this issue for quite a while now and it is getting really annoying. When using the external speaker (watching Youtube, Twitch, games, etc) it will fade out and back in frequently. Lately it seems more often than not it will be silent. This only happens with external speaker and does not happen with headphones or bluetooth. I don't think it is a hardware issue because the audio seems to fade out and back in rather than cutting out. Also I can usually press the Overview button and switch between apps a few times and it comes back. Also I have never experienced it while using speakerphone on a call.
Has anyone run into this before? Any ideas on what it could be? I don't think Logcat will work without root or I would dig into the logs.

Omg I've got exactly the same issue, finally someone talk about it !
Since nobody has any ideas, what apps do you have installed @Kev Lav? Maybe we can narrow it down to a common app or something. I really don't think it is an app though because as I mentioned it only happens when audio is on the external speakers. Sometimes days go by and the issue doesn't happen, sometimes it happens constantly for a day or 2. Pretty annoying.
Yeah I don't think that it comes from an app, but yeah it's so annoying, maybe I'll reset my phone but I'm too lazy to back up all my files actually haha.
yooooooooo ive had the same problem any fixes?
Hey guys ! I think that I found a fix, last night, I was partying in a hot tub and I was with my phone, I took several videos underwater and now my external speaker works great again ! You should try to put your phone underwater for 2 minutes !

Uhhh, I think I will pass on that. Thanks though. I have it go for weeks sometimes without the issue happening. Then it will go through phases where it happens a few times a day. Sometimes a reboot will get it back to a state where it happens infrequently. So that is my go to for now. Still extremely annoying. I wish Catlog or something like that would work on this phone so that I could look at the internal logs to see what is going on when it happens. Does anyone know if there is anyway to look at system logs?
