[Q] In-Call dialer unresponsive... - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have seen this issue on multiple forums, across multiple roms/devices, but can't seem to find any solution.
I have a LG G2 on VZW (VS980) currently running AOKP 5/24 nightly (but I have had this issue for months now).
When I make a call, the in-call dialer interface is completely unresponsive. I can't hang up, open the dial pad, speaker phone, mute, etc... the only way I can hang up is to hit the back navigation button and then pull down the notification and hang up that way. I am running PA micro gapps, but I have had the same problem with other gapps as well.
Does anyone else have this problem or has found a solution?

Bump. Really looking for any ideas on how to fix this.

I'm in the same boat here. Would really appreciate if someone could provide a fix.

I fixed my issues by flashing the "Google Dialer" in this thread

Same issue - can't use the touch keys in the dialer while in conversation in LG G2

Thanks a lot for posting your workaround.
I have exactly the same issue - I can't use the touch keys in the dialer while in conversation in LG G2 D802 (Intl).
However, the Google Dialer is an old app that got replaced by Hangouts Dialer.
Did you switch to Hangouts Dialer, or you stayed on KitKat 4.4.2 with the old Google Dialer from the post you provided?
By the way, I posted issue CYAN-6090 in the CyanogenMod JIRA in order to try and get resolution to this issue.
Are there any other users with this issue?
Did you solve it somehow?
note: sorry for not posting links. I have that annoying new user limitation...

there's a similar issue - LG G2 screen turn off and goes blank during conversation
It seems that there are two similar issues in LG G2 which are both caused by the proximity sensor during conversation:
The screen stays on and the touch buttons in the dialer aren't responsive.
The screen turn off and goes blank.
(This issue was already reported by @madafis here)
In both of these situations the only quick way to end a call is to pull down the status and notifications bar and hang up from there.
Thanks to @Bam9 and @EtherBoo , who suggested to clear the proximity sensor from the outside and squeeze the top left corner of the phone, I tried to clean it and put some stress on it - and it worked!
I have a glass screen protector (which don't block the proximity sensor), and I am rooted and using CyanogenMod 11 ROM.
I used ioroot to root and AutoRec, which comes with TWRP 2.7.0.0, to install CyanogenMod ROM.
However, going back to stock ROM (in my case, LG G2 D802, it's D80220C) won't help since the issue still exists.
What I'm sure is that it was pretty much okay in the beginning, and the situation became worse and worse - occurring randomly, until it arrived to a situation in which I can't use the phone properly during conversation.
Now that I discovered that I can put some stress on the proximity sensor it seems that I have a hardware rather than a software issue.

Screen going off during call or when call is over on G2 VS980

Hello, I have a problem with my LG G2 VS980 by verizon.
There are two problems depending on preloaded rom
1 The display shuts down immediately when call to someone. (after the conversation has will not turn on)
or
2 When someone call to me, after a conversation I can not unlock the screen (either the knock on, or by power button - appears on the screen and immediately turns off).
I've tested all the roms that are available. The one who runs without problem with the display there is a rom by HeatshiverSX - 4.3.1. The problem is that this rom has problem with the rotation of the screen.
Are you able to tell what's going on? Could someone help / advise? Thanks!
Anyone ?

If not, it seems that @Bam9 manged to solve it by a firmware update as he reported here.

[Q] Can't hangup or use buttons in call (cmod 11)

Hi everyone,
I've got a used LG G2 with a broken display that I just replaced. Everything works with CyanogenMod 11 20140708-snapshot-m8-d802 (4.4.4), except for the dialer which acts up weird.
When I place or receive a call, the display turns black, and it doesn't come on again when I remove it from the face - seems like the light detector isn't working. I can turn on the diplay by using the power button though. Here another problem araises; I can't use any of the button on the dialer screen. I can't hang up, I can't enable the speakphone or show the numberpad. I haven't done any modding expect for installing a new rom and wiping the previous users' data.
Any ideas?

Sorry. I have the exact same problem. Began on PA 4.4.4+ and now back to stock and still does not work. Have you figured it out? Seems like a problem with the proximity sensor and no way to turn it off. Frustrating.
Sorry to hear that I ended up fixing it by hard resetting my phone with the software provieded by LG. I haven't installed a new custom rom since - instead I use the LG rom and customize it with the Xposed framework and the G2 Settings module. It works great, except for some random update notifications from the LG app store from time to time.
Not really a the solution that I has looking for, but now I can use the phone as it was intended. Please keep me updated if you come about some other workaround.

CloudyG3 annoying phone problem....

There is a phone problem with CloudyG2 2.2 which is G3, I am having the problem of when I put the phone to my ear the whole screen turns off, how do I stop this, also the other problem is during the call I now have to swipe in order to use the number keypad, how do I disable this too, both of these are annoying as hell and I have looked into settings and nothing is there, is there an old LG G2 phone apk I can just install to replace this or is their a fix.....thanks in advance.....

Well when you put the phone to your ear during a call and the screen turns off, this is the proximity sensor working. This is not an issue or a problem, rather a feature of pretty much every smartphone.
I very rarely need to use the keypad during a call so I can't help you there I'm afraid.

that's not a problem - that's a feature on most devices... (proximity sensor that detects when the device is near the ear)
with a screen turned on - you'd probabbly press some buttons while in-call
with the screen turned off - you won't...
i think this feature can't be turned off - maybe some apps can control that (search google play for "proximity")

as i recall - the stock dialer always had the number keypad invisible when in call...
try some other dialer apps - maybe they behave differently...
Yes it's the proximity sensor, I will look for the stock dialer, I don't like the annoying slide to unlock when trying to use the number pad as well, that's a feature I just don't like, so I will look into other dialers and the stock dialer as well, thanks.

you got my post wrong - you DON'T need a stock dialer but some 3rd party one...

Lg Vs980 Proximity Sensor and Dropped calls

Hey guys, just wanted to start by saying hi, I've used XDA for trouble shooting and reference for a year or so since I've gotten into custom ROMs and rooting etc. I'd still consider myself quite a novice so I apologize in advance if I don't supply appropriate information.
Before getting my vs980 I had a ls980 with the exact same issue (only I was running cm12 nightly). When going into a call the screen blacks out, so obviously you can't use speaker mode or if your in a phone tree you can't enter numbered extensions etc. My research suggested that the proximity sensor was at fault, and with the use of several apps found the proximity sensor not working. I tried to turn off the sensor with exposed sensor disable app and it wouldn't work. The only difference from the ls980 to the vs980 is that now my calls drop randomly without notice. I am now running cm13 nighty and I'm not completely sure the black out issue and the dropped calls are connected. Has anyone found a work around for the proximity sensor black out? I would love if their was an option for this. Please let me know if an further info can help. I also experience random restarts with cm13, but one problem at a time.

Proximity sensor is always on

Today I noticed that the proximity sensor of my G6 (H870DS) was on while reading in google books. I found that odd so I tried other apps, the home screen and screen off (tried disabling the knock-on feature and have always on display disabled)... still emitting.
Also found this reddit thread with people experiencing the same issue. OP suggests that it came after the July OTA.
I didn't notice any issues, or battery drain, except that it is always on. Did anybody else notice this? Is there a way to turn it off?
I'm not comfortable with it emitting all the time, might damage over time. Thx!
hi does anybody else experience this? thanks

it can happen when an app using the sensor and doesn't release it so it always scan and funtion. it can be phone app or a bug in firmware.
restart your phone and directly go to google book and check if this issue occurs or not.
:good:
Hey there, nope that's regrettably not the case. The proximity sensor starts emitting in the last stages of the boot process (LG logo animation is still on screen), so it's very likely not app related.
I am also experiencing the same issue. It also occurs when in Safe Mode. If you search reddit LG G6, you can see that several people have reported this issue. I've contacted LG and they know nothing about this issue. There must be a way to get a senior engineer at LG to look into this.
My proximity sensor always seems to be on. If I place a phone call and hold the phone next to my face and then remove the phone from my face, the screen does not turn back on. I have to use a BT headset to conduct phone calls.
