Collected changes in 17.1.1.A.0.402 - Xperia Z2 General

Hi guys,
since there is no official changelog I tried to collect all the reported changes that were found by users. If i missed something, please let me know.
- Shortcuts to dial contacts on home screen now shows phonebook picture
- (not mentioning any improveness in general performance or lags because this is just a fresh install and always behaves differently)
- touchscreen responsiveness improved (especially knock to wake feature - but I bet this has an impact on battery performance)
- Google keep system app
- Keyboard font size larger
- Notification sound now through both speakers
- (The display brightness when set to auto, now takes the brightness slider into effect, so you can choose how much the screen will dim or brighten relative to environment light)
- Exchange-Fix: PASSWORD instead of the usual 4 digit passcode. 17.1.1.A.0.402 now corrects this problem
- Sony Apps and chrome updated
- changed responsiveness of navigation buttons
- theme chooser redesigned
- camera improvements (no, not 4k-problem)
- possibility to uninstall facebook
- Improved performance of Sony live wallpapers

There's another bug fix: In prior firmwares, when you created a shortcut to "dial contact', the shortcut created wouldn't show the picture of the contact, only the generic white face. In .402, this is corrected, the contact image now appears.

Thats what I meant with the first change
I will change the explanation to make it more clear.

That "Reduce data usage" feature was added in the latest Chrome version available on the Play Store, which isn't directly related to the ROM version (unless you never update your apps). It will also be available to previous ROM versions if they can update Chrome from the store. What they DID change though, was setting the Home page to "On", and point it to http://touch.sonymobile.com/. That was quickly turned off in my case...
And the brightness slider was also taken into effect in auto, even on .55 (which is the latest version available to my phone before I got the .402 update). I used that feature all the time. Keep it on auto, but slide it all the way to the left when using the phone at night/evening. It might seem a bit more sensitive now though, as in it'll change brightness more often based on surrounding light. Can't say for sure though.

How do we know the camera was improved?

So the 4K issue is still there :\
Edit: Notifications sound was coming out earlier but incoming call wasn't and still it isn't.

I find tap to wake still isn't very responsive but I still like the update. I was on .55 here in Canada and was getting freezes and slow start of some apps. Seems better now.

Anyone care to share a camera sample of before and after the update? Will be VERY grateful!

I can confirm that the camera app opens super fast. It's basically instant, if from the shutter button just hold it for 1sec then camera launches instantly after.

Problem:
Notification sounds (e.g. for Email) changes with the media-volume not with the ringtone&notification-volume. If media volume is low then I cannot hear the notification sounds.
Is this a general issue in the latest firmware?

What do we want from devs (Not another spam topic)

At first I will say that at first I wanted to do a quick reply, but as the ideas came to my mind i started thinking about full topic xD
The topic was created to give devs ideas for some smaller tweaks/upgrades/features. I made this topic after I saw that the topic where dev asked what do you want for new rom, peoples only idea was "MIUI". I was little bit disappointed by that.
As I have many ideas I will sort them in groups.
General use tweaks and functions:
- A player in lock screen (only visible when playing music)
- Changing songs by long press volume button (Old SE function implemented in very old phones ages ago)
- Auto air plane mode on selected by user hours (I mean turning off gsm/3g at night)
- Turning the led for buttons in pre-defined light conditions. (For example: in direct sunlight the buttons are very visible and i don't think that anyone has got problem in finding them. They are wasting battery at that time and no one can even see them. But at night it might be helpful for some users)
- Motion-blured launcher (and if it is possible - other apps also)
- Any wifi signal tweak is great also
- I use default x10 launcher because I love the music widget and timescape. Rest is only a bonus. I really don't like that we don't have feature that our x8 friends has got by default - up/down gesture that enables app drawer and goes back.
- Equalizer in default music app
- Faster wifi connecting (huh I know that we have a really bad wifi controller but any tweak here would be great)
- Using some other keyboard than default one
- Already updated versions of programs on roms (like latests maps instead of older ones - I know that you want to make your roms ultra light weight but it would save some time for users, and we really don't look so much if the file size of our room is 3 or 4 mb bigger)(of course you should make rom as lightweight as possible )
- Panorama app by default would be ok
- AdBlock (these is also a battery tweak - reduces the number of connections)
- By default power save widget doesn't work, why is it still implemented?
- Making more free ram by disabling setup wizard service (does anyone need it??)
- XDA app should be in ROM by default (with option to remove it of course)
- Increased call volume
- Some audio quality enchantments using headphones
Picture/camera/video related things:
- Improving bitrate/fps of videos and improving pics (but that isn't anything genius I think)
- 16mln colors (but that is also obvious)
- Control of exposure time and ISO [would be soo really great that i would start thinking about donation]
- Something that would look good and be same useful as androids gallery, but would provide normal zoom (I mean full resolution zoom)
- Making photo app start faster
- Auto flash in poor light
- A flash instead of non stop shining (it is also great battery tweak)
- Making RAW (Dreams xD)
- Option to adjust and/or turn off default denoise/sharpen algorithm (sometimes I hate the edges wrrr)
Battery saving:
- As I wrote - turning network at night
- Improving bravia engine to do more - in tv's the back-light is adjusted to the picture it is viewing. If the image that is on our phone is pure black the phone would reduce backlight to minimum. If half of the screen would be gray and the other half also the backlight would be also reduced to minimum but the gray pixels would be shown in the hardware as pure white. For us we would have more battery juice, better blacks and there wouldn't be anything missing from image. It there would be elements that would need 100% white the screen backlight would be also set to 100%. I don't know how hard it is to implement, it could need bootloader unlock but it would be a milestone for our x10, not a simple tweak
- Calibration notification - once 2 months or some pre-defined amount of charging cycles
- Some app that would automatically adjust voltages. It would check every freq with some voltage. If it didn't have restarted it continues making the voltage lower if not it would use higher V
- Enabling lower freq than 128mhz (but not like doomlord's that the voltage was 1000mv and you couldn't change that [Of course it is very good that he proved that it is possible])
- A flash instead of non stop shining (it is also great camera tweak)
- If 3g is enabled in settings, the phone would turn it off if the screen is also off (we don't need 3g when we don't use the phone so lets use edge to save battery and still be able to answer the phone)
- Make media server as individual zip. It uses power (I always have in battery usage that it "ate" about 2% to 5% of battery. Not everybody use it so it might be helpful)
- Adblock - Reduces number of connections (these is also general tweak)
Appearance:
- Making puzzle lock default lock screen
- Making gray battery circle default
- Making colorful/green icons
- Transparent bar of launcher
- Wallpapers specially for our x10 (in few weeks I'll start doing some)
- Replacing the clock on lock screen
- weather on lock screen
Note that Appearance is my own opinion and some people might not like it
I'm not posting some obvious things like bootloader/better multitouch. Every dev knows the basic things to do.
Ok, I think thats enough for now. If you have ANY ideas for our x10 please comment below so I can add them to our list
I know that some of ideas are already implemented in some roms. But they are extremely rare.
If some devs would like to talk about some ideas, they can do that here also.

My First Impressions with XXLQ5 4.0.4 ROM

As i always say, for noobs, but kids/AOSP lovers or TW haters!
Again, a BIG thanks to sammobile.com for leaking this ROM 24 hours early. Great effort guys.
(I am missing those people who were supposed to pass over them)
• Usually phone calls were of no problem. Sound is solid in both earpiece and speaker.
Noise Reduction feature is back, and i love it. :good:
• Vibration intensity is solid as it was.
• All connectivity works. WiFi, 3G/H+, Bluetooth etc.
• Swype is present as it should and version is 3.26.92Q
• Is it me only or the 1080P mkv files are running smoother than before!! :good:
• TW launcher does have the loop Home screen option, and as well in App drawer.
• Internet Browser- Well it has been changed, all over smoothness is better than previous ROM. Nice. The address loading bar is changed it's color from green to Sky blue and a little bit thicker as well! :good:
• Jeez! Can you guys see an option to Refresh a web page?? I can't!
• Call logs STILL don't categorise numbers! Uff!
• Vibrate option changed it's name to Mute. Lol. And the Vibrate icon is changed in Status bar.
• The icons in Notification bar (Application update, any other notifications etc) is no more big ones but they are small like as they were in GB.
• The Lockscreen notification is changed. Now Missed call and SMS are indicated under two separate circles and their background is transparent, unlike in previous ROM it was Red. :good:
• The scrolling bar is changed. Previously it would appear in a different grid with it the long vertical line and green colored, but now it is well merged, small and doesn't stay on any vertical line. :good:
• The Task Manager writing is now BIG and fills up the whole screen area horizontally. What's the point?
• The settings menu (which appears when you press menu button) is changed. It appears in a white and a little big icon sets. See screenshot.
• As it is mentioned many times before, Contacts in now there under phone dialer. :good:
• There is an option to set battery status to show as percentage in Status bar.
• There is an option to have a little vibrate when a call is connected. :good:
• There is a new option i am noticing, under Display you'd see a 'Help Text' option!
• The font 'Rosemary' is now added under main fonts.
• Connection with desktop is working fine as it always did.
• So far, haven't noticed any specific bugs, or any apps are not opening or something like that.
The OVERALL smoothness and scrolling is good, even with the stock kernel. So it's definitely worth upgrading.
No root yet! So I'll upload a video tomorrow, if a root kernel appears.
Now if I have missed any point which you've found OR misstated anything please reply below.
Regards.

Exactly, that's what I always do until the adequate CF-root is released. Works like a charm.
My exact same sentiments ithehappy. Samsung seems to be doing well with firmware updates now. Hope this good run continues with JB.
I don't see myself going AOSP or custom ROM anytime soon.
Only negative thing I noticed is the removal of the brightness adjustment by the sliding notification area. But I can live without it.

Hi guys. I'm new here, this is my first post to a thread in this gigantic forum actually, but I've been following some threads for quite a while now.
I think it's great 4.0.4 has been released (even if it is not official yet) for the i9100.
I'm very excited to turn to that new FW since I've been having mic issues while on phone calls and since noise reduction was somehow lost in the transition from GB to ICS it was a bit disappointing to have such a great piece of hardware with a faulty software that was preventing using the phone to its full.
By the way @ithehappy, thx very much for sharing your experience here.
Anybody noticed the bugs?
This rom has some bugs.
1. Camera shutter sound works even if the phone is on silent mode.
2. Swiping on the status bar for brightness control doesn't work.
EDIT: Camera sound was due to KOR sales code. Have changed it to XEU. Now it is silent when the phone is silent.
They can be new features, not necessarily bugs.
lOl, you can call them new features.
But they are surely bugs. (especially the focus & shutter sound in silent mode)
So far, following bugs found, Bluetooth not working, camera app not showing preview and corruption of serial number of phone.
Still a bit buggy, especially if needing to use Bluetooth.
bluetooth working perfectly fine with my car, both a2dp and making/receiving calls.
Camera app also working fine for me. Camera shutter is silent if my phone is set on silent too.
i do have the empty serial number but thats not important to me.

Bluetooth was making phone noise, but no volume of caller. Camera app showing black screen, no picture review before taking a picture.
This is still very buggy, other users are also reporting no sound when the phone is in a car dock.

My friend, brightness slider could be disabled by purpose, you never know. Focus&shutter sound - isn't a legal issue involved here? (I've read that it was illegal to silent these sounds completely in some countries )
Anyway I don't want to discuss this any more. So EOT here
About BT - I don't use handsfree and other acc, but file transfer worked like a charm for me today.
No camera sound now when the phone is on silent mode. (Had to change the sales code from KOR to XEU).

Few minor things missing from 4.4 GPE + Overall Satisfaction

I noticed that the camera shortcut is not present in the lock screen (I still have to swype left, like regular 4.3)
For some strange reason, when you go to the Settings -> System Info and tap Android 4.4, I don't see the big K that rotates, it's just gray, and if I tap I eventually get the Red Android Splash screen.
And of course, no HDR+ nor that battery saving audio mode Nexus 5 has. (possibly hardware limitations?) Still, not a major complain since Google DOES state those are Nexus 5 exclusive features, but would've been nice to share across the GPE line (after all, wasn't that the point of a GPE Device? Enjoy Nexus features on other OEMs?? and correct me if I'm wrong)
I DO like to see Smart Dialer was included, as well as other features such as Tap and Pay, a revamped GPS setting, and with GEL, phone feels entirely new. Loving that music widget in the lock screen. It's beautiful.
Overall I'm liking Kit Kat so far, it does feel lighter, and battery has shown some improvement. Sadly I won't enable ART since it screwed up Whatsapp and I had to do a factory reset.
Have a Kit Kat!
So far its very smooth. Which music widget are you speaking of specifically?

Mods/Tweaks Wish List

I love rooting my devices, but I try to keep them stock as long as possible when they are new because modding and tweaking start to become addictive. Now the bug has bitten me again and my device is rooted with more XPOSED modules than I can count. I've reached the point where I think I've found all the mods and tweaks that are available to me, so now I'd like to see if anyone else has a personal wish list of mods/tweaks they'd like to see for our devices. Here's my list (keep in mind, I'm running KitKat for the better battery performance):
View home screen and app drawer in landscape mode (yes - I know 3rd party launchers and Lollipop can do this, but I want it for stock KK launcher)
Truly separate navigation volume from media volume. Currently, Maps only lets you lower the navigation volume as compared to media, but sometimes, I want to turn the music down without also lowering the navigation voice.
I would like the notification pull-down menu to show quick settings automatically if no notifications are present. Gravity box has this tweak, but it doesn't seem to work.
If I was still running Lollipop, I'd want the ability to show the old power management graph. The new one uses too much screen real estate to show the useless portion of the graph (time remaining). We all would rather see more of the past history side of the graph that shows what has been draining the battery so we can stop it.
What's your wish list for mods/tweaks?
Double tap to wake that always works consistently in every situation... The earliest Firmware with which the phone was initially released had that. But since the first update it's hit or miss, when the phone was just laying around for some time.

In Europe we usually get the OTA with 2-3 weeks later than India.
After update IMO screen is warmer in colour. Checked all the settings and nothing helps to get true "cold" colours as before.
Edit. Only lock screen when not unlocked have normal colours.
Is this equivalent with the chinese's a.13 firmware ?

After update IMO screen is warmer in colour. Checked all the settings and nothing helps to get true "cold" colours as before.
Edit. Only lock screen when not unlocked have normal colours.

Disable Nightmode
Is the Indian version equivalent to the European one (wich is not released yet)? After all they allocated India to another market region.

Tried it already "Nigh Shield" is disabled, everything slides to.get most cold colours and still it is warm.
Hope this isn't the case as it's one of my favourite things about the screen... I hate warm temperature screens.
I'll update when I get the ota.
Edit: Nope colour temperature doesn't change its exactly the same.

I don't have any warmer colors at all since the update..
So after having some fun with settings - i can get a natural colors only with max brightness + gentle screen color mode + slider max to cold in screen color temperature, any different settings give me yellowish tint. Even i tried factory reset - no change. Strange because before A08 on A07 during the day i always had normal colors.

Found another solution - I just keep installing same update over again (A08) and now as for 3th time it started working normally. Will see if nightshield will turn automatically at 10pm as I set. So far now I have normal colors during day.
Advice: when smth like that happen you someone just keep installing update (didn't check that metod you've mentioned)
What's the hdr on video mode? We already have hdr in the camera app under video recording.
Update is now available to global version as well
Just got ota EU version... Btw my colour temperature is the same as previous update... Still nice and cool.
