[Q] Adjusting volume stops playback - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
Ive had a problem with my old S4, and now aparently I have the same problem with my S5.
Whenever I adjust the volume of any playback, the playback stops. This happens no matter what sound adjustment i use (volume keys, headset, or adjust on screen.)
This is quite frustrating as you can emagine, as I have to unlock the phone, and start playback again, to adjust the volume, to start playback to adjust volume, to start playback and so on...
As I have had this problem with both my old S4 and my new S5, I cant really believe that it should be a HW error.
Does anyone have a similar problem or a solution for this issue?
Please help!

I would recommend performing a factory reset to determine whether it is a software or hardware issue.
If it persists you should return it! And maybe consider the LG G3
After reading all about the G3 I kind of regret getting the S5, and plan to potentially get myself a G3.

It has to caused by an app you've installed. I've never seen this behaviour on any of my galaxy devices, and definitely not on my S5. The music carries on playing no matter how or when I adjust the volume.
What music player are you using?

I am using the standard music player - Any ideas on how to find out what app is causing this?

The only way is disable/uninstall all 3rd party apps one by one.

Or get don't pause from the play store. There is a free and paid version.
Edit, I haven't experienced this issue on 9 galaxy phones but I also don't use the stock music player. My theory about the above app is because it automatically puts phone to vibrate it should circumvent this issue..

I have just tried with dont pause, and I still get the issue.
The issue is not related to the standard music player... It pauses no matter what media, or player I am using and no matter how I adjust the volume...
I guess I will have to factory reset and try installing apps one by one after that.. Unless there are any other suggestions?

[Q] S3 vibrating when listening to bass heavy songs with headphones.

This is probably the freakiest problem that i have ever had I normally use Player Pro for listening to music but when I use it in the S3 the vibration module becomes active and it vibrates along with the bass heavy songs. I am getting the same problem sometimes with the stock video player...and also MX video player. interestingly the stock music player does not have this problem.
Anybody getting the same problem...any idea how to solve this?
Initially i was amused with this thing..as it sort of makes video watching better. When i was watching Thor...the fighting portions were double the fun because the S3 is underlining the epicness with vibrations...For the first time I was thinking...Is this a bug? Is this a feature?..Is this both?
But now I just want to get rid of it..hearing music is ****ty on the long run.

Its not a problem or a fault, its a feature called auto haptic feedback. Think it in the sound setting.
The bass be pumping! Pumping! Pumping!

headphone jack alert and music audio routing issue

Hi Guys,
This is my first samsung so maybe its a samsung thing, but when I listen to music on my phone everytime a new notification comes through either mail or sms or anything really that triggers a notification alert to make a noise it cuts my headphones and starts playing the notification and my music through the loudspeaker and then when the notification tone is done the music routes back in to the headphones.
It is really annoying and is there an app to fix this?
This is almost more annoying to people in the same room as me than it is to me.
I'm on the latest factory ROM, rooted.
Hi,
I had this problem too.. and found answer somewhere here. For example, SoundAbout solves this issue.

Thanks, I've used SoundAbout in the past to fix issues with a cheap knockoff chinese phone, I was hoping there was a better fix hah, that will have to do for now
If you are using a player such as poweramp you can stop this pause and resume by going into settings/audio/audio focus and change the settings to not pause and resume. It will play the music and notifications at the same time. Otherwise do the above steps and turn down your notification volume to 0 manually. You will still get notifications without interfering the music.
I haven't tried other players yet but worth looking into the settings for the same features

Then I have no idea, sorry. My other guess would be is that you're accidentally pressing the volume key in you pocket or something without realizing it. You could try factory resetting the phone. It can sometimes fox weird issued like yours.

have u check the adaptive option under the settings->sound->adapt sound?
Could it be that the adaptive sound is processing at certain point of time trying to give you the best sound that its think of?
Yes, I have experienced this under the following conditions:
-Phone just purchased, unrooted, completely stock. Playing music with PowerAmp with and without the EQ/Tone/Limit features, also happened with stock music app. The effect nearly blew out my eardrums once, but it happened several times. Music would play and very suddenly there would be a violent increase in sound, almost as if an EQ crashed. Sound went back to normal after I pressed the volume rocker in either direction. I am not so sure that this has to do with Adaptive Sound because I remember experiencing the same problem before and after i configured it. Overall, incredibly annoying and dangerous for my ears.
-Phone rooted, Viper4Android installed as a user app. The same problem happens using PowerAmp, Xenoamp and stock music app, but the increase is not so violent (not sure why, yet). Marginally tolerable, but still very annoying.
I have not found a fix yet, but still keeping an eye open.
That being said, my phone has music playing almost all day every day so I probably encounter the problem more often than others. I use earbuds, headphones and my car stereo. There is a Droid-Life.com review that mentions the issue and credits it to the phone's audio jack: http://www.droid-life.com/2013/10/01/samsung-galaxy-note-3-review/
See the subsection for Audio Jack Issues. Here is an excerpt:
"Then, after a few minutes without touching anything while at full volume, the volume just explodes and you are left deafened by the surprise volume attack."
I would be interested to see if anyone reports the problem when playing music via the phone's speaker.

[Update] Looks like this is not an isolated issue. My friend's wife also facing the same problem and she sent in to reflash the unit at Samsung Care Center and the problem just disappear. My friend told me factory reset doesn't help though.
I have exactly the same issue you have. Same XXUBMJ1 ans using the device for a month now. Unknown and just reported to Samsung and was asked to walk in to get advice.

[Q] Audio muting itself

At random times when i play music there isnt any sound coming out the the headphones. After pausing and playing, changing tracks or scrolling the track it suddenly starts working again. This happens at random times and gets pretty annoying. I have tried different Equilizers but no luck. Right now im using the Noozxoide Eizo rewire pro on xnote 20. Anything i can do to fix this? has anyone else experienced this?
Yep, mine does that occasionally. Haven't been able to pin down the cause as of yet.

Stock, N7, Winamp, Poweramp, Shuttle. All have the issue.
Full firmware reflash & data+cache wipe did nothing to resolve it.
It's not any specific song that has the issue.
Files on the SD or Internal make no difference.
Neither doe the EQ settings, headset vs speaker.
Adapt sound is disabled completely in applications.
It's not overly common (+-Once every 3 days of 12 hours listening), but it does happen.
Also at times it won't play the next song after the last one ended until I hit the power button to turn on the screen. Then it starts.
I suspect it has something to do with the notorious Mediascanner process. It's so bugged it probably gets stuck halfway through.
Yea i've tried mulitple 3rd party music players as well as the stock player. Im starting to think it might be equalizers.. I uninstalled the equilizer i was using which has worked fine for me on the stock music player, however, 3rd party music players still have the problem.

Volume changes automaticly

Hi! I'm using LG G6 with v29b ROM 9.0. The issue is that someday I have installed and used spotify app, and since then I have problems with volume changing by itself. Mostly it volumes down. It happens when I listen to the music on my headphones. I thought unistalling Spotify app would help but it didn't. Now it does happen when using also Power AMP player.
Is there any solution to that? Did anyone encounter this kind of problem? It is irritating as hell!

Yes I do get this occasionally, but I think it's just getting pressed when I put my phone in my pocket
It is not, because it happens also when I hold my phone in my hands And on turned on screen.
Bump
I would not expect error - free operation from officially unreleased software.
