If you are using safe strap 3.72 (kitkat) the only option is to flash the rom slot. As far as i know, rom slots are not supported yet in this version.

The ultimate goal is to run a kit kat rom right? Are you running pure MK2 or is your baseband NB1?
You use the magic tool to get your phone running a rooted rom with the NB1 baseband. This allows you to flash the 4.4.2 TW based roms using SS 3.72.

can i go back to 4.2.2 from 4.3?

hey guys... im on 4.3 MK2 rooted, can i install a 4.2.2 rom stock or custom ?? with 4.2.2 modem and bootloader.
thanks.
If you updated by keeping the MF9 bootloader you can go back to stock. If you took the OTA however, you can only downgrade to 4.2 with a custom ROM.

but i can downgrade to 4.2 (100% 4.2) using a custom rom?? or i will be on 4.2 but with the same new bootloader?
what custom rom would work in my case? if you can give me a link to one.. there are so many here.
If you're on the MJA or MK2 bootloader, you're stuck with it.
And why would you want to go back to 4.2? Any ROM would work, but seems kind of pointless.

i downgraded the modem to mdc and did the unlock process. it worked, i can make and receive calls but when the phone is going to 3g i get a error message "LTE esm 29 emm-x cannot establish wireless data connection" nobody else had that issue.. i dont know if hte fact that my phone is not activated on spring is relevant.. it shouldn't be, because im using the phone outside the US.
i dont know what to do to make this thing work.. i have flashed from mdc to mk2 or mja like 5 times and i always get the same message.

[Q] How to go back to stock Rom

I wanted to know how do i go back to the sprint stock rom after i flashed a 4.4.2 Rom?
Are you saying that you updated to NAE, rooted, and now trying to unroot? If so I don't know of any way to do it since there is no tar for NAE yet.

Im not sure what NAE is but the rom I have is Octo-Kat from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2493128 any info is greatly appreicated.
NAE is the new 4.4.2 TOUCHWIZ update that just came out for the phone. That's what I thought you meant. To go back to stock, if you mean stock unroofed. It would depend on what version of touchwiz you were on before. If you were on 4.2 then Odin a 4.2 tar. If you were on 4.3 with Knox then Odin MK2 kernel.

Is it safe to upgrade S4 to latest and greatest?

As the title suggests, is it safe to upgrade my rooted S4 from CM10, to say CM11 AND upgrade the baseband and bootloader and all other firmware to NAE (or whatever the latest is)?
Edit: In short I am trying to get off of MJA because of the deep sleep issue that drains my battery.
If you want TW interface upgrade to the mk2 4.3 jelly bean or to nae 4.4 kitkat.

And if I don't want the TW interface? I plan on upgrading to CM11 or another AOSP ROM, but want to get off of MJA too.

Excuse the noob question, but will i Need to install a TW ROM that has that baked in? Or is there a place to get the bootloader? I see a Spring S4 firmware thread, but no bootloader for MK2 or NAE.
Thanks in advance.
You will have to odin the NAE tar file, then reroot your phone, install custom recovery, and then install cm11 or whatever rom you want. This will bring your phone up to the latest firmware and will hopefully solve your deep sleep issue.
Contact this guy and just flash the modem and bootloader via Odin. The download links containing the bootloader too are not on the page but it mentions that he will provide you with them if requested.

And yes, then you can just go ahead and flash CM11. It's what I'm running on mine. Works very well, no complaints.

Device serviced, need help restoring old OS

So i broke my screen and sent to samsung for service and of course they updated it to NB1. I had an OG S4 that had an AOSP rom using the loki method. I have TWRP backups of my system and data partitions.
Is there any path I can take from NB1 to somehow restore using TWRP? Is safestrap an option? Sorry for my ignorance...just didn't expect to have a custom recovery / os any other way but using the loki patch.
Is it unrooted? If so then I think you're screwed.

Rooted or not you can't go back to an earlier firmware. There is away to flash a rooted rom. Check out the general forum

so it sounds like i can downgrade to mk2 rooted rom with the nb1 bootloader. But there's no way I can go back to my setup...as it had a custom kernel which is not possible without loki...is that right?

You need to have mdl, 4.2.2, firmware order to use Loki and custom recovery and kernels. So, yes you can't go back to the setup you had before.

Yes, but as an fyi, there is no direct root method for nb1. So if you're looking for root you might want to consider mk2

Then you're going to want this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49687770
Use saferoot to root. You can Google it
Edit, look in the general forum and read up on mk2 and nb1. You can get a rooted nb1 rom on your phone with safestrap. But do some homework before you decide doing it.
