can i go back to 4.2.2 from 4.3? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

hey guys... im on 4.3 MK2 rooted, can i install a 4.2.2 rom stock or custom ?? with 4.2.2 modem and bootloader.
thanks.

If you updated by keeping the MF9 bootloader you can go back to stock. If you took the OTA however, you can only downgrade to 4.2 with a custom ROM.

but i can downgrade to 4.2 (100% 4.2) using a custom rom?? or i will be on 4.2 but with the same new bootloader?
what custom rom would work in my case? if you can give me a link to one.. there are so many here.

If you're on the MJA or MK2 bootloader, you're stuck with it.
And why would you want to go back to 4.2? Any ROM would work, but seems kind of pointless.

i downgraded the modem to mdc and did the unlock process. it worked, i can make and receive calls but when the phone is going to 3g i get a error message "LTE esm 29 emm-x cannot establish wireless data connection" nobody else had that issue.. i dont know if hte fact that my phone is not activated on spring is relevant.. it shouldn't be, because im using the phone outside the US.
i dont know what to do to make this thing work.. i have flashed from mdc to mk2 or mja like 5 times and i always get the same message.

See picture. Currently still on stock rom rooted, ktoonsez kernel, and still on mdc.
What will be the steps to update to mf9? Can I just flash the firmware and call it a day or are there extra steps?

So you're saying that if I flash that file by noobnl to my phone using Odin, once that's done I can just flash ANY custom rooted MF9 rom using TWRP and I'm set?

I would back up your data to be safe and it's always good to do a clean flash with a new rom. Most roms come with a kernel.... FYI, if your WiFi does not work after flashing a Rom, just flash another kernel. Most times that fixes it.

So I just flashed the mf9 rom and it went smooth except for I lost ktweaker app to adjust ktoonsez kernel. Running choppy and such. Going to flash his newest updated kernel. Im still on an older version.

He means a ROM he could flash without losing the exploit, not the actual update.
Just wait and one should be created like it was for MF3, otherwise you'll have to settle for any other 4.3 ROM. You could always check the international section for their stock 4.3 or something.
I hope someone will create one

[Q] kitkat root now wifi n hot spot not work? ?

I updated to kitkat today after I unrooted then I used odin v1.85 n the tar.md5 file for rooting the rooting went fine but everytime I try to kick in wifi or hot spot it says" your phones security has blocked an action..."???
Also my baseband is mk2 n my buildnumber is nae
Little more background info after updating I tried to put the nae hotspot mod into my framework n backed up my old ones by putting .bak n restarted the phone n the hotspot nor wifi worked so I removed the modded ones n put back the stock n tried that still didn't work n then unrooted n tried again n neither of the two work I can use any advice that is given Thanks
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
Just wondering if you thought about flashing the hotspot mod instead of pushing the files yourself.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk
Yeah I did but at this point I just want to get my wifi working even without root cause it's not working currently n I'm unrooted n which number do we look at for the hotspot mod the build number or the other one
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
You need to start from scratch, you say you updated to Kit Kat after unrooting?? The reason why your phone isn't working properly is your update didn't complete properly. You have mismatches in your software version and baseband. Did you update with the OTA file or did you install one of the semi custom roms from the development section. Anyway, the wifi problem is probably a mismatch between your baseband and your kernel. Sense your software is NAE and your baseband is MK2 I don't know which hotspot you should use. Straighten out your install first and then you should have working wifi and hotspot.
Well how do I start from scratch to be honest I used the the supersu unroot tool cause mine was stock but rooted but then I hit the install icon in my notification window n it started installing the update n it succeeded n it says I'm on kit kat but software and basband version are on mk2 n my build number is nae ?

Then the update failed. You could try to Odin the NAE modem files but that might not fix you. If it was me, I would try to Odin the stock mk2 file and see if it completes. If it fails, then your bootloader was upgraded to NAE and you won't be able to go stock. If it completes, then you should be fully mk2 again and you can try the ota and hopefully it succeeds this time.if it succeeds everything should show NAE.

Are you rooted?
If so, what rom are you running?
This is the exact issue the UnKnownforce is trying to fix in his thread.
Go HERE and search the thread for lockscreen. You'll find many posts concerning this issue. There is no 100% fix yet. Works fine for some and not for others.

Well that makes absolutely no sense. You took the OTA then rooted and flashed the NAE modem??? If you took the OTA why would you have to flash the NAE modem. Something is fishy here. Are you on the NAE upgrade or are you a piece meal install with mismatched bootloader, modem, and software. If you are on stock NAE then the lock screen should work as mine works with all options. If you are on a custom rom, that is where the problem is. Post a screenshot of your about phone info page or list the specifics of what you have so we can further help you.
Yea i took the Ota everything was nae but my baseband then I flashed the nea modem is

You might be screwed until the stock tar comes out. If your baseband hadn't changed with the ota, then the update didn't complete. You may still be on the mk2 bootloader. There is suppose to be an app that can tell you what bootloader your on, but I don't know what it is called. You can try to Odin the mk2 tar file. If it completes your golden and then can redo the update. If it fails then you have the NAE bootloader. you can try installing a custom kernel to get wifi back, or see if you can find a copy of the stock NAE kernel.

Well, o thought i can keep my device update on par. The firmware, the modem and bootloader. My firmware and modem are updated to NC2. but my bootloader is still stuck to NB1. And well i believe so that if i'm on the same version which is 4.4.2, there will be hardly a brick. Correct me if i'm wrong.

If anything goes wrong with a bootloader flash the chance of a recoverable device are in the toilet...
Roms are generally fairly easy to reflash and so to can be recoveries if something goes wrong.
Bootloaders are the 1 thing you don't play with if you don't need to....
Who cares what the bootloader is anyway, as long as the device works which is why you needed to flash them to use Kitkat....
If you decide to go through with updating the bootloader then make DAMN sure the flash file isn't corrupt or you have any problems with the flash. Should be quick but truly those few seconds are a heart stopper, especially if it comes up fail in ODIN....
I have a lovely Samsung galaxy tab 7" paperweight to attest to this....
