The Android 4.2, JellyBean update will not be available for Nexus S or Motorola XOOM users.
This news was confirmed by Google's Jean-Baptiste Queru, who stated that both devices will remain running Android 4.1.2.
The reasoning behind the software not updating to the latest build of Android is due to the older hardware included on the Nexus S and Motorola XOOM.
There were already reports of Android 4.1 running slow on both devices, so updating to the newer build would not be the best idea.
The Android 4.2 JellyBean update finally rolled out to Nexus 4 pre-release users earlier this week.
The Nexus 4 smartphone will now have the ability to upgrade to the latest version on Android 4.2, which brings features that Google has previously covered such as Lock screen widgets and Multi-user support.
Lock screen widgets appear on the device's lock screen and allows the user to customize them in order to view their calendar, email, and to also identify music with Sound Search.
Multi-user support is an interesting feature that allows Nexus 10 users to share their tablet with others by creating separate customizable spaces for each person. In order to log in, users can simply turn on their tablet and tap their photo and they will be able to access their own customized version of their homescreen, apps, email, photos, and storage.
Users can customize their homescreen by choosing a wallpaper, adding favorite apps and games from Google Play, creating folders, and arranging beautiful widgets by dragging and dropping.
A Google spokesperson confirmed to 9to5 Google that Nexus 10 and Nexus 4 users will be prompted to install the update once they power up their devices for the first time.
Google has also introduced a new security feature on Android 4.2, JellyBean, that aims to reduce the running of malware on an Android device.
A similar software to this was released in the past with Bouncer, which was available in the Google Play store .
Bouncer checked applications in the Play store for malicious content.
Now Google has implemented similar software directly into the Android operating system that will detect any foul play coming from foreign programs.

Really detailed information. Thanks for sharing.
yes its a sad news fir nexus s users

I think the nexus can handle it, with the right optimization. But that's too much work for a nexus device apparently. Don't get me started on the Xoom. Yes, dual core doesn't always mean better, but the CPU definitely was better than the ns, and with a gig of ram (same as the gnex), it should run.

P.s detailed post, thanks dude

Thé from I am the dark one is kinda good almost everything is working. it is my daily driver :
The only annoying bug is that gesture typing doesn't work if you flash a custom kernel , either through swype or stock keyboard.

JBQ did really say that.
https://groups.google.com/d/msg/android-building/-ymcoMuDAbA/3cotWkQ-20wJ
how i wish that my gathered news was a false palm but looks like they are serious about it
I think it was a good decision on Google's part. I really had issues with the RAM requirements of JB and ICS. It always ran fairly slow when you got any heavy app running like Chrome or Maps or certain games. It really comes down to the apps being heavy but on GB the 50 - 100mb of RAM not being used by the OS really tends to go a long way when you have such hungry apps running.
tldr; Nexus S needs more ram to run JB well. I ended up going back to a GB rom (in my sig)

This is not 100% true. If you use an debloated JB ROM with a kernel having Big Mem patch, Nexus S won't let you down (except for high end 3D games). I am running 4.2 on my Nexus S now and I have 140 MB free RAM with stock kernel. If I'll flash bedalus kernel, I think I'll have even more.
This decision from google is let's say just political
so true, with the help of bedalus marmite kernel you will got 400+mb free mem.
i think the OS are not the issue but the apps and processor matters also the internal memory...
Google mocks us!
Since I passed under android 4.2, my Nexus S works much better than before. Réactivity & performance too. I think Google wants us to change for the Nexus 4 is now impossible to buy!
even its not coming, no problem coz we already have 4.2.1 on my nexus s
thanks articudos for making Jellyshot v1.0 android version 4.2.1 , thanks for making our dream come true
here for those who want the said version

I love disabling my lockscreen security (fingerprint) on my note 4 when I have MOTO 360 on but still like to keep specific apps locked. I know of two options FingerLock and FingerSecurity, one requires root and xposed and the other doesn't.
First, FingerLock: (my fav)
FingerLock
requires root and Xposed
ability to lock system apps
doesn't need to run background services
but there is no xposed on lollipop, the last I checked, so not future proof.
Second, FingerSecurity:
FingerSecurity
no root or xposed required
runs on lollipop
Not here to sell you on the apps, if you wanna know more about them I posted links.
If I missed something like other apps please tell me, we are a community after all.
Good ones man been using FingerSecurity and it works excelent.
Personally, I'm very paranoid when it comes to biometrics - you don't know what's being sent and where.
Xposed is out for Lollipop, but you'll wanna wait for Summer 2015 when Android M&M drops

Dude android m is to be put into Googles new car units. Not for phones.. yhats what they are alling their version of android for their cars head unit.. aleast from what ive heard..
So as some of you may or may not know tomorrow is Google I/O. And like last year Google will be announcing Android M. It will also most likely release an "M Preview" for the Nexus 6 and 9. Do you guys think it would be possible to port the M Preview from the Nexus 6 to OnePlus One. Also this thread is for everything related to Android M for the OnePlus One
Do you remember situation with Lollipop? I think it will be in the same way
It may be possible, though unlikely. It's just not really worth it. Too many bugs and instability. This time around I'll be looking forward to ports for the nexus 5. As I think it won't get Dev preview

Android M Developer Preview will be available today for Nexus phones. How long until someone makes port to Bacon, or how long until we see first ROM:? :fingers-crossed:

Here they go!
Guess it would be pretty sweet to get a little blend of a ROM with the cherry pickins from the Android M preview.
I think we will get the android m port when Google releases the sources of it.
Liking the new Google photos app, seems pretty slick and great that they detached it from Google+. Seems like they've refined Lollipop a bit and added some decent features. I've seen theres an option for dark theme built in now, maybe not as big a deal to us as we have total theme/customisation control, but the Nexus 6 users are going to appreciate that with their amoled display. Interested to see the app permission/privacy thing in a bit more detail as well. They sorted the volume control (mostly) with an expandable panel although is silent mode still missing?
Android M comes with App Permissions which is slick! Doze mode sounds cool but it doesn't seem to work with Google Play Services
If anyone is interested, the new google camera, search app and play services from the M-preview are already available on apkmirror (haven't tried them, son don't shoot me if they don't work).
Is it me, or is M just a slight update to lollipop?.. Why M and not 5.2?.. Most of the "features" are apps, not the OS.. The OS only got a few changes and is still virtually Lollipop.. I'm happy for the update, but, I had higher hopes for a full "version" jump..

I've tried them - DO NOT INSTALL !
First, you have to manually uninstall existing apps (uninstall updates, disable the built-in apps, reboot device). This allows installation of the new packages.
Second, the device will NOT boot - the new GMS triggers a crash in ProcessManager which brings down the whole system - you will probably have to re-flash the entire shebang.

Google app is working fine and Google Camera crashes on Panorama. that's all I've found atm.
So just GMS must be avoided. Also, for me apps installed just fine w/o uninstalling/rebooting
You guys should explain if these apks replace system apps or Google apps from play store

That's expected as you need a system lib to use the feature and installing google camera as a user app does not provide that.
It is clearly not possible to port this over. Our device uses heavy caf optimizations in kernel and framework (includes CM and Oxygen). Simply using the frameworks and app core from m will always result in a not booting device. We will have to wait for the source to be published.

Hey guys, I am an iphone user looking to buy a new android phone and the nexus 6p is my current choice. However, i would really like to know if the themer app is supported on the nexus 6p( on their website it is stated that they do not support the nexus 6 which got me worrying). Can anyone confirm with me whether the app is supported on the 6p??
I used to be a huge supporter and user of Themer but earlier this year when the developers all but abandoned the app and their forms here on the website I gave it up.
From what I've seen they have never even officially supported the Nexus 6, so waiting for it to get supported for the Nexus 6 P may take longer than you're willing to wait.
I guess they have picked development backup of the app but don't answer any questions and I have heard that they aren't adding any new themes to the theme store but that you can go by designed ones elsewhere.
I am currently using Hola Launcher. Pretty nice, simple, lightweight.
Now, if you're really interested in trying it out on your Nexus 6 P it may actually work. It worked perfectly fine on the g3 before they made it "compatible". All you have to do is find an apk download of it and side load it on your device.
Nexus 6p has layers a different for of themes strait if off the box ....root and get layers manager from app store ... Get some layers and find which one you like

First of all thank you so much for your reply. I noticed you said to download apk and then sideload. Does that mean the app is no longer available on the playstore???
Here are some diffs between X Performance's Nougat beta program, and the Sony Concept program.
Android 7.0 only - Nougat beta is 7.0 dedicated, while Concept is continuing one.
Stable vs beta - You can opt for stable build under Concept.
Release timing - Weekly and monthly releases under Concept.
Supported devices - Nougat beta is only for one or two flagships, while Concept could expand to more devices if found good.
-- BIG credit to SOURCE
The Concept program is one of a kind, it looks to me. Whaddya say?
As far as I know, X Performance's Nougat Beta is beta version of normal commercial firmware.
But concept rom, which lacked most of Sony features, is just an AOSP rom with some Sony app. Mainly for test experimental features and crowdsourcing new features and integrate them to commercial firmware.

What most of Sony features are missing? Actually I don't need any specific Sony stuff, as long fingerprint and notification led are working.

Yes every update is clear install but sony gives you a cloud where you can backup data and then restore it back again. There is an app for that in play store

About this I'm not sure but I think that sony made notification and fingerpint scanner working in the new update. I think that all basic stuff is working in this rom, becouse the give this firmware to public test. There could be some little bugs but I think that main features are working
Sorry for my bad english

What app for backup?
And really every update is clean install? If the backup is partitions cloning, then yes, but otherwise no, as I have about 80 custom apps, most of them with custom settings and a lot of them doesn't have option to export/import settings, so it's a half day job to set the phone up again after update. And I don't have such time.
It's called xperia transfer mobile. When you have installed that app and then you install app for joining sony's concept program, xperia transfer app will launch automaticly. I don't know how excatly backup process in this app is working and if it's working also for custom apps. I have only dowloaded it for looking around. Nougat have many amazing features but I think that the best way is wait for official stable version. According to xda article:
The initiative is open initially to Xperia X (F5121) users in Europe. To participate in the experiment, download the Concept Installer app from the Google Play Store, and follow along the instructions to guide through the setup process. Perhaps the best part of this experiment is that it does not affect the warranty status of the device. Updates to the concept ROM are promised monthly, but users can opt-in for the alpha and experimental releases as well. You can also roll back to Sony’s skin as well. You do lose your data, so users are advised to make backups beforehand.

Concept rom use AOSP dialer and contact app, AOSP SMS app, AOSP System ui, No stamina mode and turing on battery saver mode will theme status bar and nav bar with bright orange color. But ppl said battery life is amazing.
I think there was some misunderstanding in here. flashing concept will wipe your data when you're coming from official software, but the weekly/monthly concept updated won't wipe your data.
