Nexus 4 goes BLANK with BLACK Screen - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys
I am having this unusual issue (atleast for me) as it is happening for the first time. My nexus was charged almost 60% and i didn't even ha any sort of case on it. Just msged my frnd on whatsapp and kept the phone aside. After almost 5 mins when i check the screen is blank :crying:. i m pushing the power button to switch on but it does nothing...neither does proximity sensor and the volume buttons. I thought the phone is switched off. But not cz i called up on my mobile no in my nexus 4 from another phone.
Freaked out i thought suddenly the battery drained and phone is bricked. Tried to charge the phone but nothing comes up on display neither the battery icon. Searched theweb for solution but didnt find much besides hard resetting the device using volume down + power button. Finally after waiting for almost half n hour or so i tried again and pushed the powerbutton for almost 10 secs :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossedmore than needed on regular use) and it turned on:victory:. Couple of days later same thing happens.
I am not sure what is causing this issue to happen. My Nexus 4 isnt rooted. I certainly dont wish to part with this device as it is such an amazing one. If anybody is experiencing or has experienced the same issue, please tell me what was the cause?
I'm TOTALLY BLANK BEING UNAWARE OF THE ISSUE AS TO WHY IS THIS HAPPENING? OR WHAT OR WHICH APPLICATION IS FORCING IT?
Reply please...Thanks in advance...

Sounds like it's frozen long pressing the power button soft resets it. If it happens a lot then you should probably factory reset and see if it continues.

Unable to wake with power button

hey guys,
it started a few weeks ago and has starting happening more and more.
Every now and again when i go to wake my phone by pressing the power button nothing happens and I have to restart teh device. Somethimes after restarting the phone will go back to sleep and it happens again!!
Has anyone else got this problem??
Anyone got any ideas how i can fix it??
I've tried 3 different ROM's and always hard re-set after installing but I'm still getting this problem.
Please help!!!
Thanks in advance
My power button broke about four months ago, so now I have to resort to pulling the stylus out to turn the screen on. Might work as a quick fix for you until you figure it out.
Does anyone know if the on button is a known problem with the HD? Mines caput COMPLETELY now, I can get another one on insurance but this will be the second (headphone socket first time,) HD I've had in 12 months. OR... Anyone know if I can blag Orange into giving me a HD 2 or something more compatible with a mac? (Just inquiring, bought a mac after the HD ya see )
Same problem here, defect power button. I Switch on my device by pulling the stylus and switch it of by pressig the power button very hard (which still works most of the times). I will send it for warranty repair and report what happens.

EVO won't stay "asleep"

My phone died today and when I got home to charge it, I noticed that after pressing the sleep/power button, the screen turns off and then about a second later comes back on. It does this regardless of if it's plugged in or not. I took it into Sprint and they're going to give me a new one when they get their paws on some. Right now I'm just looking for ANY possible work around to the problem.
I've done a factory reset, added a pattern/code, and installed NO LOCK but nothing can keep the screen from coming back on after pushing the power button...
(I also had another problem with the phone, the camera has a HOT PINK tinge about 85% opacity. I can go without the camera for a few weeks until the new one gets here but any help with that is very welcome)

Everything is stock.
Mine had a similar problem when I was on 2.1 I would charge the phone overnight and at some point in time the phone would turn the screen on and not turn back off. Or sometimes it would sitting on my desk and just randomly turn the screen on. After I upgraded to 2.2 it stopped. I never could figure out what was causing it to wake.
Are you using ChoiceDialer+? There is a known bug where the screen will not shut off after making a call with ChoiceDialer, though a reboot does fix it.

Issue with not turning on

I've had my tab 10.1 since august and I rooted it to CM9 around 1month or so ago. (maybe longer!)
Last night I picked it up after getting home (it had been on charge through out the day) and it was off. (normally unplugging the charger turns the screen on)
It also will not respond to the power button at all! I left it off charge over night and tried again this morning but still no success...
Does anyone have any ideas what this might be? (there have been no signs of a power outage/surge in my house while out)
Also should I be worried that If I send it off they won't fix it as its been rooted?Or because should be able to tell till its actually working again, I have nothing to worry about?
I think I read somewhere that while holding the power switch, also hold your finger on the touch screen at the same time, and see if that helps.
thanks I will give this a test when I get home! Any other ideas for trying to solve this?
It's possible that it's the Samsung "Sleep of Death" issue.
Here's the way that I fixed mine: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1478361
@PynkFloydd
I was just in the process of trying what your suggested as it sounded promising that others may have had the same issue...
Just as I was putting masking tape over the power button it turned on...I was a little annoyed that I had started your guide and I wanted to finish it but never the less... I got my tablet working again
THANKS!!!
Great to hear! I've recovered a few Android tabs and I've noticed that sometimes it just takes a little luck and a little patience and it comes back from its vacation.

[Q] Please help! Phone is inbetween soft and hard brick!

Hey guys,
This is my first time posting, although I am constantly on the forums looking for help and ROMS. Its been about 4 months since the last ROM I downloaded for my phone. Its actually been 4 months since I did anything to my phone. I found a ROM that worked and kept with it. I have a sprint galaxy s4. fyi.
But yesterday while I was in the middle of texting on my phone it randomly shut off. When I tried to turn it back on nothing happened. Then I pulled the battery out and it rebooted showing the Samsung Galaxy S4 screen for about 3 seconds and then shut off again. I tried another working battery and still nothing. So then I pulled the battery out and try to get into the bootloader (holding down the volume up button). It said it was going into the recovery but then shut off about 3 seconds in. So then I tried holding down the volume down, home, and power button which allowed me to go to the OEM(I don't know if that's the correct term but it was a warning about tampering with the software) So I pressed volume up to continue and it immediately shut off again.
I cant get passed anything for about 5 seconds in without it shutting off. It's extremely frustrating and annoying that I literally cannot do anything with it.
Any sort of help or input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much in advance!

Make sure you have a well charged battery. Once this happened to me the phone was running hot and the little charge it had was wasted trying to get it to download mode. also having it connected to a computer/power outlet sometimes messes with the boot up. The timing of when you press the buttons also affects the loading. as soon as you see hte Galaxy S4 logo let go of the buttons. Hope this helps/.

I tried 2 different batteries, I also tried having it plugged into the computer, charger, anything. I've also tried different timing on the buttons appreciate the response though. I'm going to keep trying the timing of it.
Anyone have any other suggestions?
Sounds to me like it can be a defective power button which Samsung is notorious of making on their devices.

Hey BIGSAMDA1ST....thank you so much I looked at it more closely and it seems like the button half of the button is jammed up in there.
Hopefully that's what was causing the problems. ?
Same probleme here (also since yesterday)
Could you solve the problem? I had the same problem yesterday. Galaxy S4 with CM 11. Suddendly the phone rebooted and it just came to life for about 3-4 seconds after taking the battery out and in again. After a few tries it booted coorectly again. But today the same thing happened and now it's dead for about 3 hours. Now I am going to buy an external charger and try to load the battery to 100 %. I also disassembled the phoine and checked the powerbutton for functionality.
Yeah that was not the problem. lol I'm sending it to an outside company due to the face that its not under any warranty. I'm saying its bricked lol

Freezing issues?

Has anyone else had issues with the phone completely freezing up to the point that it's unusable? I was at work today, hadn't really used my phone at all, so there wasn't anything intensive going on. I went to pick it up and pressed the fp scanner, nothing. So I click every button, tap the home button, power button, etc. It's just frozen on the Always on Dispay (just the home button showing)...Guess this is where I wish there was a removable battery for a pull :crying:
It was at like 90% too so it will take FOREVER to die I'm sure....
This is unacceptable tbh for an $800 phone. If this doesn't fix itself I will be jumping ship after this AND the Note 7 debacle.
Update: I did a hard reset...still not happy.
It horribly lags when i record 4K, guess snapdragon version is ************** again

Were you ever able to figure this out? This happens to me about 1-2 times a day and the only thing I can do to combat it is holding the power with volume up/down keys for a soft reboot.
I have this issue. Have you found anything out about it yet? I've had this issue since day 1, but mine is 2-3 times a week. I called my provider and they want me to do a factory reset (which is annoying). I'll try to update my progress after I try the factory reset. .
I get this too. It's really annoying but seems to recover if you give it a minute or so. Mine also leaves the white boxes behind when I swipe notifications.
