thats the way it is for now- I do not condone changing esn numbers but I have confirmed I have repaired a few that lost signal do to esn changes- currently is no way to modify esn and retain any signal on the sprint model and on the us cellular it will work but without 3g

well thanks ...imma use my s5 like an ipod lol
please if anyother knows how to fix my problem
Any solution so far?
Were you guys able to get this problem solved?
Right now I am in the same situation.. if I change ESN/MEID I lose signal and I can't seem to change the IMEI at all .. DFS shows that it changes but after restart, only ESN/MEID is changed, IMEI always stays the same. I beleive that is the problem because ESN/MEID and IMEI aren't matching somewhere in the code.
Please do let me know if there is anyway to get the signal back.
Thanks!
Hi I am also looking for the same solution to this issue. Any luck?
If anyone have a solution please help!
What things have you guys tried? Only things I can think of right now is messing with IMEI repair and trying out different PRLs.

I am having the same issue. Im positive if we could change the prl it would bring the signal back.
Got 3G no voice
Hi I am in the same situation but i can get 3g with original esn but i must change esn to get voice since i'm outside usa
the answer is the Baseband.
I have a Sprint Note 3 & every time I've tried to update past the MJ4 Baseband, I lose signal.
I Flashed it to Boost & I've also tried manually flashing the PRL, still a no go.
my advice is to try downgrading the Baseband.

Toast - you probaboly already know this but just wanted to make sure you are aware.
From my research the Sprint Hero was first given to the biggest regional carrier in the ACG (Associated Carrier Group) which was Cell South. So in HTC's mind there are two type of radio's, Sprint Radio and Cell South radio.
In order to please the other smaller carriers (Smaller than Cell South) they based their radio's off of Cell South chip and simply used some kind of radio image to program the other carrier settings.
So if you have a Bluegrass Cell, App Wireless, nTelos, Cellcom Hero and you do the ##786# reset, the chipset reverts to what is hard programmed back to Cellular South. The nam then appears to lock itself where QPST or any other program cant write or 'stick' the settings.
The only way I could get back to Bluegrass Cell settings was having the carrier re-flash back to stock.
Again, you probaboly know all this but wanted to make sure.

Thank you all for the help. I never reset the pri after i installed the custom rom. My pri right now is 1.84_110. Is this the problem with me roaming and using only sprints towers? If so is there anyway to fix it since I never did the pri reset?

That PRI does not belong to Sprint..
##786#....maybe(need msl #, though)
Try restoring to original nandroid.
Contact KylesTheBeast...He knows more about these non sprint phones than I do
bittersweet, but my phones always roaming and using sprints towers. Is there anyway to fix it?
I brought Sprint Hero which BAD ESN from ebay. I understand it is unable to activate on Sprint. Currently, I am trying to use it with other carrier but there is no signal(marked X). I have checked network status by using CDMA workshop, it show "offline mode" and state show "entering CDMA network". Comparing to my old one, it show different. Can anyone help me to fix this? is this about activation? But i have changed ESN.
Don't know why but when I hear bad esn I always think "stolen". Anways Hopefully all you did is change the esn. Did you put a new prl in there? That is a must try that and see how it goes. What carrier did you put it on? If you get The settings in there correctly and it's not a well known apn post please.
I'm trying to use it with CDMA 800 Cellular (Thailand). I have change prl to the one support my carrier. (Verizon and Alltel include SID/NID of my carrier to their PRL). I thought it's because hero200 is only support PCS. After several searching, it seems heo200 support on both PCS and Cellular. IF it is incorrect, please suggest. Verizon phone can get signal here. I have seen the BB tour working when change network to 1x. it got a signal marked with 1x sign.
By the way, i am in Belgium. i bring the working one which is samsung here. Off-cause no signal as i know that there is no CDMA network. But what i want to check is the status in CDMA workshop and the status doesn't show offline mode which is different from Sprint Hero(Always show offline mode). I start thinking that something wrong which my sprint hero that why ex-owner what to sell it. Hope somebody can find the way out for me.
I manged to buy an htc evo 4g from the us. Ofcourse I didin't know the phone was a sim free phone!=) Aniway..
Norway have all the net htc evo 4g needs to work accept 4g..
cdma,edge,turbo 3g,3g...(3gs) cdma 200 1rtt...
The problem is the sim card..but I refuse to think there isint't one guy here at the xda that cant mix something up!
Some how possible to like use a sim card reader and install the sim card in the phone some how..
after some reseach i understood the the sim card holds information that connect the phone to its operator as for me (telenor norway) so its possible to ring, send sms and mms.
so teoretlic it has to bee possible at least i hope..
really hope for some positive answer
Just to let you know, for CDMA it's not a SIM card, it's a RIM card.
Anyway I think let this be a lesson to you that CDMA phones sold in the States are NOT RIM-replaceable. Only a few countries in the world that will let you do that.
Your best bet? Well, if you know anybody that works for your CDMA provider, he/she maybe able to manually add the ESN into their network and... well, it's just way too much hassle. AAA Keys, provisioning and such...
Sadly I don't think it'll work in Norway. I've seen ppl made the Evo to work for China Unicom (Only CDMA provider there) with a LOT, I mean A LOT of work just to get the 1xRTT functions such as voice calls and such to work. No data... YET because they haven't figured a way out to change the AAA key.
As for 4G/WiMax? Well, not going to happen unless your country decided to use that technology. Most likely LTE will be used instead of WiMax, knowing rest of the Europe relies on GSM systems more than CDMA.
..
okay'
Telenor norway provide cdma so what you are sayng is that this is possible for the operator to mix som up(even thou it is to muchtrouble..).. but then again there would bee problem for htc evo 4g because its not rim card replaceble?
this vpn thing in the phone.. what is that for? is that for the wimax only?

Well it's not, not replaceable per se, it's part of the phone. See in other countries where using RIM on CDMA phone is practiced, the ESN is part of the RIM card. Just like MSID on the SIM card for GSM (correct me if I'm wrong). Imagine it's a GSM phone but the SIM card is permanently part of it.
So what you have to do is ask your provide to ADD your phone's ESN onto their network so it can be used onto the system. However that only solves the 1xRTT (voice and text), in terms of data (EvDO), it'll be harder due to the AAA key and such. Your provider is the one that makes the final decision.
As for 4G/WiMax? Well I don't think there is any WiMax network rolled out in your country. Even if there are, it'll need further tinkering due to preset configuration in the phone's WiMax part.
VPN has nothing to do with WiMax. VPN is an application and WiMax is a protocol.
Anyway good luck trying to adding your Evo to your provider! It won't be easy but it's do-able.
hmm okay you sound like a really smart guy!
so for the phone to wokr I need the esn number and what more?
if you could just list what I need in that type of thing, if you understand me right
and maybe how I could find those thing. like how can I find the esn number in the phone.. I google it. I saw that its illegal to change the esn number so therefor it really hard to find a way to see it. but since Iam not gonna change annything + my htc evo 4g isent locked to any operator I guess i can do what ever i want?
thank you for responding I find your answers very helpfull!
imei and imsi
now I found something interesting that I wonder if it will work
I have a htc hero with a si card in it. And there I can see the imei number.
the htc evo 4g has a IMSI number.. Both looks the samme to me couldn't I just change IMSI number on the htc evo 4g with the IMEI number That it shows in my htc hero?
and then ofcourse add the esn number to my operator network.. wouldint everything works just fine then?
Hi I was wondering if anyone had tried to activate a T-Mobile S4 variant on Sprint networks . I read where one will need a valid ESn Number . I realize that Sprint uses different bands for their voice text and LTE data then T-Mobile does . Would I need to install a Sprint variant S4 rom to solve this issue with the cellular modem radio . Any help appreciated
Late reply here. You have issues that will make it very difficult for you to accomplish what you're trying to do.
1. You can't install a Sprint ROM on a T-Mobile device. Odin will check to determine whether the ROM is correct for the device, and if it isn't, will refuse to install it.
2. Installing a Sprint baseband on a T-Mobile device, if it were possible, would render the wireless capabilities of the device useless until the T-Mobile baseband were restored.
3. You'd need to convert the IMEI to an ESN. This is perhaps the easiest thing to do since the ESN is the IMEI, but ignoring the very last digit in the IMEI (the check digit).
4. Sprint is extremely reluctant to activate non-Sprint phones on their network, to the point of outright refusal in some cases.
I personally recommend switching from Sprint to T-Mobile or an MVNO using T-Mobile if you really want to use this device. Not only is the service better than Sprint, you don't have any hoops to jump through in order to get the S4 working on the network. If you insist upon using Sprint, find a different device.

This is not restricted to the V20 alone. It deals with how Sprint programmed their devices. My old unlocked Sprint G2 LS980 behaves in the same exact manner. I guess Sprint don't put a lot of thought into how their devices will work on GSM networks since theirs is CDMA.
i unlock a Samsung note 5 sprint version myself and it those drop signal and i was able to check the imei by *#06# which i cant with v20, straightest thing i tried it on 2 other sprint lg phones and they don't displayed the imei either.
