My wife has an unrooted Verizon Note 3. Since the KK upgrade, she's had problems with the keyboard and rotation. For the keyboard, sometimes when she tries to reply to a message, the keyboard won't type. She has to exit out of the app, long-press home to clear all open apps, and open the messaging app back up, sometimes several times. For the rotation, she'll sometimes be holding it completely portrait, but it will rotate landscape. Has anyone had any similar issues since the KK upgrade?

I've had issues were the keyboard will stay up when I close an app just after using the keyboard. For example, I'll hit the Home button after typing out a text message in Hangouts to my wife, the home screen launcher will come up but the keyboard will still be up. The only way to get it down is to hit the return key. Happens every now and then but not enough to be annoying enough for me to try to fix it. lol. But I don't remember this happening before 4.4. I use Google Keyboard.

I use PIE with PIEPlus 2.2 for browsing, and every time I click into a text box on a web page the on screen keyboard pops up - this is very annoying as I use full screen mode and this causes the screen to come out of full screen mode while the keyboard pops up. Also I'm in landscape mode with the hardware keyboard slid out, so the on-screen keyboard is not needed.
I'm sure this problem never happened before, I'm just wondering if anyone knows of a setting or whatever I might have changed?
Use nullkeyboard

Also, if you start typing on the hardware keyboard while te software keyboard is on the screen, it'll disappear and only reappears when you tap te "keyboard button" instead of appearing every time you select a text box.
The text entry from my physical keyboard on my XV6800 is SLOW. It seems to hang up when typing a text/email message and also seems that it doesn't show the characters until I hit "space". Text entry is fast and smooth when using the soft keyboard on the screen.
I've tried a hard reset, but that did not help.
Any Ideas?
Are you using a task manager to close programs down tht run in the background?
You know a hard reset from a soft reset, right?
It will do it with about 18 - 23megs of RAM with no other programs running other than those from startup. Sometimes it will type just fine then all of the sudden it will start hanging up. I've also noticed that if I close the slider while it's "hung up", it will instantly display the text i was typing like there was no problem.
I do know the difference between the hard reset (holding both soft keys while simultaneously pressing the reset button) and the soft reset (just pressing the reset button).
I don't know if it's a hardware problem or possibly a software issue. I was planning on updating to a custom ROM to enable GPS and update to WM6.1. Do you know if a ROM update would take care of a software issue if that was in fact what was causing the problem.

I have the same phone, same issue. When I first slide the phone there's a good 3-5 second period where the display of the text lags. I just keep typing and soon all of the characters suddenly appear. I have noticed the same issue while using the Vito SMS-Chat program. The display of text lags right after I slide it open and/or I am receiving a text.

does your screen sometimes display vertical black lines when you are typing on the slide-out keyboard?
This can be a little difficult to explain, but I'm hoping someone else here has a fix, or at least can confirm it happens to others.
I'm using a stock HTC Magic on Rogers (so 1.5 with perfected SPL, still unhacked). I bought it this way.
Not every time, but quite often I will begin typing in an application such as message or browser, and every button press on the keyboard will trigger a "scroll up" as if I had scrolled up on the scroll button.
This is extremely annoying, as it results in each button press pushing the focus from the text box up to whatever is above it, forcing me to manually scroll back down to enter the next letter.
It is application specific. Once it happens in one application it stays broken only in that application until I kill that process.
Any ideas?
Note: This doesn't happen in landscape, but that could simply be that "scroll up" has no function in landscape since the entire screen becomes a text box and there's nothing to switch focus to.
Yeah I'm seeing the same. On custom roms as well. Sorry I don't know of a fix, except perhaps switching to plain android keyboard (but that's hardly an improvement).
First post after having my DX an entire week, trying to find what I can without being too noob but can't seem to find a solution to this.
I tend to type 99% of the time in landscape and seeing how the keyboard takes up 90% of the screen, I often can't see what fields I'm entering for the text. The keyboard automatically opens when attempting to input and assumed if I pressed outside of a text field, it would close the keyboard but no go.. Is there anyway to close the keyboard, even if it's just to scroll on whatever page I'm on to see what else is there then come back to the keyboard when I'm ready by clicking within the text area?
That probably made no sense but hopefully you get the jist of it. Thanks in advance.
EDIT: The back button seemed to work, disregard.
You can also swype from the top of the keyboard to the bottom and it will minimize.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Also you can press/hold the menu button to close. You can also do this to raise the keyboard at any time.
Evening Nexus 4 owners,
I am writing to see if anyone else experiences a similar problem with their Swiftkey 3 keyboard app. For those who don't know, Swiftkey has swiping gestures (swipe left on keyboard to delete the most recent word, swipe right to close the keyboard, swipe up for shift/caps lock, swipe down to close the keyboard). For me, these gestures only work half the time. Anyone else? When attempting to do these gestures, it would often type out a letter instead
Besides the strange click sound that occurs when device is on Vibrant/Silent mode (which is fixed by turning off "click sounds" altogether) and the loose volume button (which is fixed by putting on a bumper case), the Nexus 4 is an okay device
