Restore to original by update - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have a Galaxy S5 rooted with CF-Auto-Root.
I was just wondering, is there any way to put the original rom back without using Odin? For other phones there is a way where you connect the phone to the computer, search for updates and it flashes the original ROM back.
Any idea on how I can do that?
Thank you!

Why cant you use odin?
Sent from my SM-G900T

Hey, thanks for the reply.
I can use Odin, but I would rather not have to find and download the original software manually.

Quick answer to that, u cant. Have to use odin or heimdal to restore. If u r on custom TW u might be able to restore via Kies

Thanks.

Branded Galaxy Y?

Hi to everyone. I'm sorry, probably this question has been asked lots of times, but I'm not expert in flashing devices, roms, etc.
I've a Branded Galaxy Y which code is GT-S5369 (instead of 5360), and I would like to know: Are the firmwares in this forum compatible also with my phone? And do I have to do any specific procedure in order to install a Custom ROM, or does it work in the same way of non-branded ones? That's the ROM I want to install: http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1757125&page=264 .
Thank you :fingers-crossed:
you can only try it - unless someone has that device you probably wont get an answer
take note of your stock rom baseband in case you need to flash stock rom via odin
I had a look and your stock rom is probably S5369BULL1 or something like that - check about phone in phone settings
you can download that stock rom firmware from sammobile.com/firmwares but you will need to split it with the splitter tool to be able to flash it via odin
the link to the splitter tool is on dokys thread at the top of the dev section for odin firmwares

Thank you for the reply. My stock rom is the one you said, I've downloaded it from sammobile I've read in other websites that it is necessary to de-brand the phone installing the GT-S5360 stock rom XXKL3; is it actually the best way to do it? Sorry for the questions but I want to be sure of what I'm doing.

Debrand basically means to remove all bloat apps that providers bundle with the phone that are really of no use
I use xxlk3 as it's one of the latest UK firmware
Make sure you make a nandroid backup in cwm before you flash anything - you can then restore your phone back to it's previous state if necessary by restoring the backup in cwm

Well, as I understood, debrand is not an important thing for installing Custom ROMs.
Anyway, I succeeded to install the Evo-X 4.2.0 rom, just unlocking the root, putting the file into the SD and applying it via CWM. Nothing simpler than that. Thank you for the kindness, there was not any problem with it

Custom Roms should be pre-rooted no need to root again unless you have problems
Enjoy
I think they are compatible

Anyone know how to get rid of that "custom" logo on bootup?

So, I have the MF3 firmware and wanted to update it to the latest version. I backed up my phone, went to settings->Accounts->Backup and Reset->Factory Data Reset
I wiped my phone and after all that, it still has the custom logo. What can I do to get rid of the custom logo so I can update my phone? Any help you guys can give me would be appreciated. Thanks!

I did, but I also did a full unroot using the superuser thingy (I think it was Super SU). My understanding is I should be able to remove root, restore to factory default and the custom logo would go away. Any idea why it wouldn't be working?

I have the S4, Because I have MF3 firmware, I've been pretty careful to avoid doing any sort of custom flashing to avoid bricking my phone (since they locked the bootloader). Do I have to use ODIN to reset the custom status? And are there any significant risks to the phone if I do it this way? I'm aware anytime you mess with these kind of things, there is some risk, I just want to know it should be safe, it's been tested before, and I'm not just rolling the dice and hoping for the best.

The custom logo can also be removed by using the triangleaway app.

Using TriangleAway app might brick ur phone and it might affect our phone, if u try it and it is Hard Brick and thats will be a problem over there.
Hard Brick and Soft Brick are different
Hard Brick is your phone is dead can't turn to recovery or download mode and you need to change ur motherboard
Soft Brick is usually just when you're phone is stuck in a bootloop, and as the name implies, is caused by a software error, usually the lack of a system to boot from or some other minor software bug that glitching boot. They are easily fixable by reflashing your ROM in recovery.

Where do I get the correct stock MF3 firmware file to be flashed by ODIN? I just want to make sure I use the correct one if I'm going to mess with ODIN. Haven't used it since my droid charge . . . which was a piece of garbage but I'm pretty sure that's common knowledge and affects no one at this point . . .

I went to that page and found my phone:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SGH-I337/ATT/
All I found for firmware is MDL and MDB. I'm on MF3 but I'm not sure which of these I can use. Would I want to use one of these two? Or would I want to use the TAR files from this location?

I just want to make sure you know that the MF3 version has a locked bootloader, so if I can't do this with a locked bootloader, I probably need to know sooner rather than later. Thanks for your help!

Since you want to update the phone, you can directly flash the latest using odin. It will remove the custom logo too. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2926642
I have used triangle away on my phone (ATT S4) multiple times and have never seen any issue

I had done that. I did finally get it working after resetting it a few times. No idea why that is though . . . Hopefully, I'll get those OTA updates soon so I can go back to enjoying my phone. I hate stock so much and don't see much point in making many changes since I'm going to just reload everything via titanium backup once it's all updated.
Thanks for your help!

[Help] Galaxy S5 Active SM-G870 stuck on a stock recovery

How do I get out of it and install rom
Thank Yossi
Using Odin
Can you access Download mode?
If so, then install stock firmware on your phone using Odin.
Other solutions can be flashing a custom recovery via Odin too. I recommend flashing stock firmware for complete fix.

Can't root if you are on the official lollipop update, needed to be on KitKat rooted to be able tp, so that cuts your answer short as root would be needed for the rest.

Odin flashing problem

Hello I've got problem with my galaxy s4 i9505
So if i want to flash something via odin it's writes complete(write) operation failed.
My device is currently rooted I've install CWM mod somehow even odin said its failed so thats realy wired. At first i just wanted to update android from 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 i dont remember to latest official 5.0.1 and it failed and device are bricked. I've Don't know what to do so i flashed CWM and fortunately it works. Couple days later I've installed Resurrection Remix rom on android 6.0.1 and ti works quite well. Currently I'm running some s6 port rom on android 5.1.1 and there are some issues propably because I've don't install recommended modem & bootloader(current modem is i9505xxugne5) because i just can't. Tried to use another odin versions usb ports/cables and another pc's/windows versions. Any ideas how to get this work. I haven't any problems with odin on my previous phone galaxy s2 plus. Sorry for bad English and Thanks very much for help
Which file is giving the error in Odin? Have you tried different version of Odin, USB cables, and USB ports?
@audit13, he did mention trying all of the above mentioned.
@xOwczarek, do you have the Samsung drivers installed? And if you do, did you install the separately or with Kies?
First I've installed drivers and it don't work then kies and same.

did you deactivate kies before starting and remember to run odin as admin ?
And are you using the original cable or have tried with the original cable?
Yes I've use orginal cable. And tried others.

You may be able to use the app FlashFire to flash an official stock rom directly from the phone. You could also flash a modem and bootloader with that app, but the problem is that it will only work while on a stock rom.
My suggestion is: Try and flash a stock rom using that app, and so, your modem and bootloader will be probably updated too. Then try to, either root, or flash a custom recovery back. I recommend TWRP for the recovery.
Rooting first then recovery
Or
Recovery first and then root
They both work.

My apologies to @xOwczarek for not reading more carefully
Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I'm embarrassed but this error needed to be pointed out
Does the Odin error always occur after trying to write a certain file? What about using heimdall (http://glassechidna.com.au/heimdall/) to flash the firmware?
The stock rom came from sammobile.com? What bootloader is on the phone?
Nevermind i've used another pc and it pass! I've used this firmware: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/44775/I9505XXUHOB7_I9505XEOHOB3_XEO/
and orginal cable.
Thanks everyone for help

How t re-lock the device again?

Hi guys,
I did root my device recently, is there any way to re-lock it again as I need to bring it back to the company?
Flash the latest firmware using Odin or initialize using smart switch. This will wipe the the data on the phone.
Stop making a post on this, multiple threads here that talk about fixing this.
Thank you qwewqa. Onw question more more please, how can I have a backup copy of my stock rom that I currently have? Something different than titanium backup please.

Do you mean the rooted rom or the rom you have after the reset. You could backup using flashfire if rooted. Smart switch works for non rooted devices and rooted devices but will not backup app data.

Re-flash the original firmware. It won't be rooted if successful. Therefore it would be completely stock again.
