Camera rubbish! - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've had this phone a couple of days and taking outside or inside photos near a window is a nightmare! Photos have a bad blur around the window or outside! Maybe it's just me but I'm really not impressed with it! Photos look a bit misty! Is it me or is it this camera?

How do u do that
Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

with your fingers?
maybe you've left the stock transparent sticker on your lens...
btw even dslr cameras struggle in taking clear pictures without good polarizing filter glass on the lens... so...
being a dslr camera owner - g2 has one of the best cameras i've seen on the mobile device... i was stunned with the image quality, sharpness and color...
if you're rooted and have custom recovery - try xdabbeb's camera mod

Thinking it could be the lens cover!!! If so might just sell it lol

Hi Again
I caved in an bought another g2 to see if my blurred pictures were a hardware fault or just due to a crappy g2 camera, looks like my new g2 takes pictures of simular quality to my s4
Sorry to say but sounds like your g2 camera module needs replacing or the phone itself.
Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Free mobile app

This was my old g2 with the same pic. I think the glass scratches on the lens had something to do with it.
Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Free mobile app

Although, i still think the s4 is crisper and cleaner (but a bit dimmer) at indoor shots with incandescent lighting.

[Q] how to open the back cover

Hello
I need to open the back cover of the device to cover the camera.
Has anyone already done it? Is there a video to this?

Seems like tape. Or maybe even a sharpie would do the trick... A sharpie would be permanent until you rubbed it off with some rubbing alcohol.

A lot of government buildings don't permit camera phones in the workplace. Same with a lot of private defense or research firms. OP probably isn't allowed to have a camera in his workplace, but loves the phone. A few years ago–to fill this small but certain niche–RIM made BlackBerry phones without cameras that were otherwise identical to their camera phone counterparts.
Tbh, the camera sucks. White balance compensation is worse than it is on my original Galaxy S. Pixels don't really mean that much when the picture is poor quality. I can't imagine how bad the camera is on Galaxy Nexus phones if the 4 is considered to have significantly improved optics.

Actually, I noticed that outdoor photos are acceptable. At night, with the standard lighting you'd expect from any venue or abode, the white balance is terribly far off.
Is it possible to turn off the camera by software?
I mean when I click the icon of the camera, the camera will not work at all.

Save yourself the trouble and duct tape the camera hole!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I just removed the back cover to play around. Really pretty easy.
1. Remove the SIM card tray, set it aside
2. Remove the two Torx (size 5) screws on the bottom of the phone.
3. Use a prying tool around the phone to pop the back cover straight off (I used a guitar pick and a small flathead screwdriver)
When you remove the back panel, it would be quite easy to put a little piece of paper to cover the camera.
However, even with the back camera covered, the front camera could still be used to take pictures... and removing/covering the front-facing camera is a lot more involving tear down process. I think a software mod would be your best bet.
Here is a great youtube on disassembly and reassembly of the Nexus4.

Bad camera

I noticed that my camera quality is really bad. If you look close to that picture, there is much noise and all the borders are blurred. Even if I look at the spot I focused. The colors also are quite bad... My friends phone make better pictures, we compared them in the same situation.
A sample picture: http://db.tt/Ea3BQKwq
Can I do anything to make Google fix my camera or to get them do a full RMA?

There is nothing wrong with your phone's camera. However, poor lighting conditions and a shaky hand may have something to do with it ;P

All nexus 4 cameras use the same Sony sensor. RMA won't do you any good, as you can see Google's imaging software is garbage when compared to skinned uis like Samsung or even iOS...

I remember I read something about a better camera on all rev11 devices compared to the rev10 devices. Better satuation, less washed out colors etc. So I tried my friends rev11 n4 and the colors are better, the borders aren't blurred/noisy.

[Q] very noisy pictures in low light

Hi,
I recently received an i9505, I previously had a HTC One X. Today I was taking some photos indoors and the pictures are so noisey. They are worse than my One X and my inlaws S3. They seem to lack sharpness, the videos too - very soft. Im loving the phone but they camera in general is dissapointing I find.
Also, the lens seems to have a sticker on it that I cant remove. It doesnt cover the middle / lens but around it. Is that normal??
Thanks

[Q] nexus 4 camera

We all know that N4 has a very bad camera..specially in low light photos..photos have very much dots..They seems good on mobile but when zoomed even a little its pathetic.
Was anyone able to find out what the issue is..? is it software or hardware..?
If its software related than is there any solution..?

Low light noise, no tap to snap picture, horrendous flash photos.
It's just not as good as the Galaxy S2+ I was going to sell.
The camera is the biggest disappointment for me as a one week N4 owner. I'm seriously considering selling the phone.
I tried the Moto X apk, which seemed to be a little better on the noise front, but I can't live with that aspect ratio. "Focal" was even worse than the stock camera.

No We are just expecting a decent camera..coz i think its a make or break feature for a smartphone..accept it or not..camera is not good enough on N4. And please i was just asking a question, its not about what i expect.
Just FYI i have a DHD and its camera is great..even in low light

I just wanted to know whats causing this Low light Noise..i love the phone and i am using it from last 6 months..but if someone could figure out the root cause than i guess it could be solved..
I don't in any way think the N4 has a terrible camera. The pictures of takes for me at least are clear and sharp.. Way better than my S2 and honestly look just as good as my brothers Optimus g and NY wife's Note 2..
Not sure what your talking about..

Yea, I concur. I'm able to take great pictures with this phone. I'm not sure what the issue is. I mean I did come from the Evo 4G to this though, that phone had so many camera issues so I guess anything is better.
After reading around the subject, the only thing I've that gives me any hope is someone suggested using Snap Camera HDR app and fixing the ISO at 100. I'll be giving it a try in the hope of reducing noise in the pictures my N4 makes. Ta-ta, PmT
I am not expecting a 5DmkIII quality but I was expecting the camera to be as good as the one on my Galaxy S2 Plus (also 8MP).

you dont have to tap the screen. long press the shoot button until its focused, then release. or in 4.3, you can hold down the down volume button then releae when focused.
btw some recent photos..
This phone sold for $200, of you want better camera you're going to have to shell out more money for other phones with better camera.
If you want less noise in low light shoot with iso 100. Or get n HTC One.

The multi-element lens is made out of plastic, but the lens holder that is facing the outside world is cut out from glass. As said before, it will take some scratches, but same rules apply as for the screen: try to protect it from damage.
Can it take being put on the surface of a smooth table? Yes. Can it resist keys, sand and knives? No.

Some phones have the lens protector, some don't.
I am on my third gs5, first 2 didn't even have a protector over the camera lens and the 3rd one does
I'm going to leave it on since there's a nice cutout for the camera optic, so it doesn't interfere with photos

why was it a pain? the cutout hole is perfect size and doesn't get in the way of the quality of the photos......

Scratched camera lens, photo quality
My S5 camera quality has dropped significantly lately. The photos have become quite grainy, especially in mid and low light. I compared it to friend's S5 and you can see the difference right on the screen even without taking a photo. My camera lens is with scratches, friend's not. Can it be the reason ? If so, is it possible to get the scratches out somehow ? I have seen videos of scratch repair for HTC One M8 (http://youtu.be/xhhOcIRMfWc ). Can it work on S5 ? Any advice, any solution ?
